- Rachel (2/5): - I tried calling owner several times throughout day we were arriving to tell them we were going to be close to end of check in time. No one answered and voice mail box was full so couldn’t leave a message. I messaged the owner thru Expedia as well with no response. We got there and lights were on in the house and in back. I went to front door and thankfully looked down after climbing porch steps as all the porch boards were removed and it was dark so could have been a disaster. The Hitching Horse sign was laying on the ground along the side of the house. Then I walked down and around the back door was unlocked. I yelled inside then walked into house announcing my arrival. There were 4 bedrooms upstairs all the lights were on and the beds had been slept in and not made up. There was a basement with lights on but I did not go down there. So after a long day of driving we had to find another place to stay. Was not a great experience.

After we called a number someone arrived about 15 minutes later and explained that the business model had been changed and it was no longer operating as advertised- they were no longer offering breakfast and to be fair we were offered a reduction in price When we were shown to our room it was very dark and dusty. The bathroom wasn’t much better- the grouting and seal around the bath and shower were horrible It seems to be operating as a longer term residential property. The other guests who were staying left discarded cigar butts on the ground outside the decking. We asked for our booking to be changed to one night only which was agreed to Very disappointing after reading all the positive reviews.

Let me explain - I originally booked a room with a lower rate than the other ones available, but my credit card was charged a much higher amount when I checked in. The next day I called Expedia to see if my booking was priced inaccurately on their end, but nope! Turns out Deb inadvertently booked me a more expensive room amid the slew of reservations she was handling. Realizing this after checkout, she deeply apologized and then graciously refunded me the difference. By holding herself accountable, Deb renewed my belief that most people are inherently good and just doing their best! The rest of my experience was lovely (yummy breakfast, plenty of snacks, hot shower, great night's sleep, etc.). Largely thanks to Deb, I'd definitely stay here again if I ever find myself back in Pierre!

The extra details; water,pop, snacks, special soaps/shampoos, extra towels, and a beautifully set table for breakfast made our stay even more special. We would return to Pierre just to stay at this property!

- James (8/5): Not -so-Charming - The reason I booked was because it was not a hotel or a motel. Rather, it was a lovingly restored old home. As it turned out, I booked the last available room, which slept more than we needed; thus, rather pricey. The second disappointment came when i learned that my booking was not actually locacted on the property. It was across the street and down a block from the charming house! Our booking was actually the lower, basement level of another not-so-charming house.

- Grant (10/5): Highly recommend the Hitching Horse - I had to stay in Pierre for work, traveling daily out to customers. Last time I stayed in the holiday inn express & wasn’t impressed so thought I’d try this & would heartily recommend it. Far better & very comfortable, like home away from home

Only a slight knock on a noisy bed when you toss n turn through the night. That’s offset with the best breakfast we’ve had in the USA. Next potential equal is a European provided breakfast. Other hotel free breakfast is pig slop. Wis here more often.

Also a small frig incase you're traveling with food. The breakfast had a nice variety and was hot, fresh and tasty. Deb was a great host.

We stayed in the business apartment which is like an AirBnB separate from the main house and it was cozy and comfortable. - john (10/5): best B and B in pierre sd - this is a true B and B the business suite is off site but has all the emmenities that you could ask for in a long term stay place . this has a full kitchen with stove ,oven , microwave , sink , dishes , full size fridge . The bathroom was a little tight , so if you are plus sized you might want to reconsider this room . it has a livingroom , with plenty of room for others to visit or stay . plenty of choices for coffee , clean little place with lots of character .

- john (10/5): - We liked the accommodation at the Hitching Horse Inn as it was in a convenient location, very clean and tidy, excellent breakfast, friendly and helpfu; staff and very comfortable. We would like to stay here again when visiting Pierre SD.
- Christina (10/5): - We stayed for a figure skating competition. Area was quiet and safe. Owner was sweet. Property had great charm and felt warm and inviting. We didnt get to enjoy the awesome breakfast because of the competition but will so try it next time! Would book again! 10/10

- MARISA (10/5): - Wonderful stay - many thoughtful touches, warmly decorated, very kind staff. The only complaint I could have is that the traffic noise is loud if your room is on the front side of the house. However, there is a beautiful deck off the rooms on the front side of the house as well!
- Amber (10/5): - Beautiful and cozy home with traditional style. Room was spacious and equipped with a desk, private bath, TV and king bed. Breakfast was stellar! Deb is an amazing hostess and was happy to have a conversation with her. If you're looking for quaint, home feel this is the place for you!

- Amy (8/5): - Bit tricky to locate offsite room we reserved as we came into town after hours & at night unfamiliar to property set up. Great apartment, comfortable bed, updated nice decor, clean. Bathroom small/tight. Enjoyed the friendly, welcoming, accommodating staff & other guests.

- James (6/5): - I traveled with my husband and our child and booked a “business apartment”, which seemed in the listing to have two beds. Now, we did reserve through a third party site, which may have jumbled up the pictures or otherwise erroneously led us to that conclusion. We arrived later than we had planned around 9pm and found just the one bed in our room. The hosts had already retired for the night and all other rooms seemed to be occupied, so we made a little floor bed with the extra blankets. We also could not get the wifi network and password to work, although it was provided in multiple places. Pros were a beautiful old house and a cooked to order breakfast in the morning.
- Michael (10/5): - Gracious and hospitable hosts. Expedia quoted incorrect cost but Deb simply honored Expedia’s incorrect price. She said Expedia has overbooked their inn in the past and that really is troublesome. After this experience I have doubts about using Expedia. We realy appreciated how Deb handled this. I think it’s a nice place to stay especially if you want to walk to the Capitol

- Gary (8/5): - Lovely area and very quiet. The room was very small but the bed was comfortable. The only drawback was the lack of water pressure in our room. Very difficult to get a shower. Breakfast was excellent
