I had to take the king bed. They were supposed to give me, but it ended up being a queen.. can you imagine me my boyfriend and three teenagers in a extremely small room with a queen bed my 16 year-old wanted to sleep outside in the car smh. As soon as the sun came up, my kids were ready to go!

- Nadia (2/5): - I pulled in and noticed the area, the outside, the state of the property and was very concerned with my safety so I did not check in nor did I leave my car. I would never recommend such property to a family.

- Federico (2/5): More than bedbugs and filth. - Worse case scenario, we found filth, bedbug stains, very scary, I want to call the FTC and the health department, that place should not be in business. it was supposed to be “their best room” and I couldn’t even dare to bend my knees to seat down on the bed. I took pictures, you will definitely regretted as I did, we didn't spend the night there I had to book another place 4 miles away that was more expensive, but Whispering Pines Never Refunded Us. The place is disgusting. smelled like an ashtray too. You’ll be lucky if you don’t bring bedbugs with you, I put everything we wore, all clothes, shoes and even our bags in a dryer for 15 minutes . I got pictures of the bed mattress, box spring and floor. It looks like they picked up the beds from the trash, I am posting the pictures. Never go there EVER.

We couldn’t stay for more than half an hour, I didn’t sat on anything. I looked at the mattresses and both the box and the mattress were completely scratched like if they would have been picked up from the trash, they were some small blood stains like bedbugs. I bet they have them. The bad reviews are true. Run

There were leftover footprints in the tiny shower from the person who cleaned it. The carpets are stained. However the bed was comfortable and it was a king so that was nice.

- BeeHH87 (2/5): Traveler beware... - We made reservations in August for our stay in November. I had confirmation emails from whisperingpines77@gmail.com including reservation numbers, details and cost. When we arrived, she said they didn't use their own website reservations and didn't have any record of ours. The front desk person said she was new, couldn't confirm their email and was very uncooperative. It took about 45 mins with calls to the manager to get us rooms. We did not get the rooms we reserved and a couple of us were in room 37 which is a smoking room---definitely not what we wanted. The mattresses had burns and there were current spills/stains on the carpet. There were dead bugs smashed on the floor near the bathroom; the shower and bathroom were dirty, the deadbolt wasn't functioning and, of course, the room had a terrible stench that permeated the beddings, carpet and air. Our friend in the non-smoking room had a better experience as the room was cleaner and smelled ok. I would not recommend this motel to anyone I considered a friend.

- David (10/5): - Our stay was more than adequate in all respects. There is an excellent restaurant in White Stone just moments away. The motel receptionist couldn't get her credit card machine to work to be able to charge us an animal (small dog) fee, so she waived the fee, which we appreciated.

- Verified traveler (6/5): New management, positive changes. - This was a last minute booking. This place had the best price for the budget so we were in. A big sign saying Under New Management was hanging up front. Very easy check in after booking with this site. We wanted a room with a jacuzzi and maybe that wasnt conveyed thru the site. The room was huge and well laid out. There was def a lingering smell of prior smoking in the carpet. There was a weird spotty stain the tub, maybe rust? Other similar stains on the back of the front door. The hot water didnt work and neither did the room phone. I called the front desk from my cell and got no answer. Room was very quiet. Sheets were very clean. I mentioned the hot water on checkout and they said it was a tripped breaker, so if this happens to you, thats the issue. I never stayed under the previous owners but it def feels like these guys are cleaning it up. Give it a chance!

The room was small but very clean and comfortable. Good place for the monet spent for a safe quiet place to sleep.

- annaeG8386WZ (2/5): Couldn’t pay me to stay again. Smells, dirty, hair in beds, feces on wall, threadbare towels, broken amenities. - Disgusting. My parents had a room that smelled like mildew and had what resembled pubic hair in the bed. I could not breathe in their room at all. OUR room was disgusting, a layer of filth over everything. What resembled human feces smeared across the door jam to the bathroom. Other scary stains all over the bathroom walls, and lots of hair in both beds as if they never changed the sheets. Bugs in the room. Outside is run down, inside was way worse. Thankfully my boyfriend had the foresight to bring sheets for all of us, and we washed and dried everything on high heat as soon as we got home before bringing anything inside, even the clothes we were wearing. Stayed for one night and would never stay again. Not safe, not comfortable, not recently renovated like they claim, stinks. If you must stay here, bring your own sheets, pillows, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and towels. Probably alcohol too because that’s the only thing that made this bearable. I also could not bring myself to shower there. Maybe even just bring a sleeping bag like Gordon Ramsay, but honestly it’s probably more comfortable to sleep in your car and bathe in the Rappahanock.

Clean with all the essential amenities but nothing more. Heating/cooling unit is noisy. Front desk staff is friendly and accommodating.

Sign out front says new management and renovated rooms.To be clear, this is your typical roadside old school motel. Smaller rooms and limited amenities. However, I found the room (#22) clean, fresh smelling, and obviously renovated. Fresh paint, some new furniture, marble counter-top in bathroom, etc. Also a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. AC (wall unit) worked very well. New flat screen TV however picture looked analog, not digital. I was here alone on business and was pleasantly surprised and satisfied.

Linens were terrible.(old, thin/threadbare) Housekeeping disposed of the soap in the tub after the first night and did not replace it. The WiFi was SLOW!!! There was only 3 cars in parking lot on first night and less than a dozen on second. Minimum investment would reap huge rewards! This should be a destination stop, spring, summer and fall!

It would have been nice to have an extra bed pillow but manager didn't reply to our attempt to get his attention. It was cheap and as expected for the price.
- mickj237 (2/5): Beware: Fraudulant Booking Charge - I booked the Whispering Pines Motel through Booking.com whose policies require that no booking charge be imposed. Nevertheless, an $8.00 booking charge appeared on my credit card from Online Reservation Specialists, the booking manager for the Whispering Pines Motel. So far the Motel has refused to reverse the charge. An Internet search reveals that many others have likewise reported unauthorized $8.00 charges by Online Reservation Specialist apparently beginning in 2015. Attempting to reach Online Reservation Specialist is a futile effort.

- P9059PHkarenl (2/5): Sad to see such disrepair - We live in the area and used to recommend the Whispering Pines but had to stop because our friends had such horrible experiences. I have stayed in places for $60 a night and received a far superior room. We travel extensively and these rooms should not cost more than $40 a night. I don’t understand how the town allows this level of filth.

- Diane (8/5): Looked like the Bates Motel but was clean and comf - We had our boat in the Deltaville Boatyard getting some repairs we stayed at the Whispering Pines for two nights it's it was very old but clean there was no breakfast no special services provided the people that run it are very nice and if you just want a bed to sleep in when you're on your way to somewhere else it's perfect

Did not put clean towels out for the next day or make the beds. Did not clean the tube. Table top was broke, could not set anything on outer edge or table top would fall over.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The rooms were musty smelling, one of them had been smoked in recently. It being in the high 80's the air conditions had not been turned on, it took 4 - 5 hours to cool off enough to make it bearable.
- Bob (4/5): - This is really about Expedia. We had booked two rooms for Friday night and three rooms for Saturday. On Friday morning we found out we would only need two rooms for Saturday. The management told us they could do nothing as we had not booked it directly with them ! If we had they may not have charged us. So Expedia actually cost us an extra $120.00 that we might have gotten back! The motel rooms were musty smelling and one of them had been smoked in recently! The air conditioners had not been on so it took 4-5 hours to make them bearable! We only stayed out of necessity as the only other hotel (Best Western) was completely booked. We hop never to stay there again.

Put in tile and blinds. Bathroom was updated. We were supposed to stay 8 days, stayed 1 night cause the smell gave me such a headache. But they wouldn't honor the stated per night price. Charged me more. Won't do this ever again.
- 347walterc (6/5): Stayed in Worse - It's a older Motel and it shows it in places. The room was clean and had a good TV. Never knew a toilet could make such noise, the faucet would spit air for some reason, but for the good, the water was extremely hot. The bed was extremely soft and they're tight on the pillows. I've had better for less, didn't pay a whole lot to begin with though. At least it was clean.
- brian (2/5): You pay more by booking on line - The owner charges 10 per cent more than walk in to cover his commission paid to Expedia. His words were I do not want trouble if you don’t want to pay it go elsewhere. When it is late and dark you have trouble finding an elsewhere Hair dryer did not work. Bath backed up while showering. Coffee machine did not work. No cups ,soap or shampoo. We were given a hairdryer cups and soap at reception and if you held the coffee machine power switch in while brewing you did get coffee We had 2 rooms and both entry doors were in bad condition and not very secure. They appeared to have been forced open and then a poor repair. Wood was splintered and Locks were loose. The light outside of 1 room was not working and the area was very dark
- IraS669 (2/5): ?Sleep tight but the bed bugs WILL bite! - Stayed here to attend a party in White Stone and had friends who had done so previously. The price seemed right for a bed and a shower. The owner was friendly enough on sign in and the AC had the room at a good temperature. However, after a one night stay, discovered I had approximately two dozen bed bug bites on my arms and legs the next day. Was fairly certain but had my dermatologist confirm an he remarked that the bites were a "common pattern for bed bugs." Thankfully, I had the foresight to place my bag on the countertop and not on the bed, so at least I don't think I brought them home with me.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Classic motel - The Whispering Pines Motel in the White Stone / Kilmarnock area of the Northern Neck of Virginia is an example of the 1960's classic roadside motel: nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable enough to invite a return stay. The one peculiarity is the noisy plumbing - it's noisy, but functional. The owner, his family and staff are hospitable, friendly and happy to please.
- Steve (6/5): Good night's sleep - Wasn't much to look at but it was clean, quiet and we got a great night's sleep. Interior has new stucco and paint and new tile and granite in the bathroom. Definitely an old fashioned Motel layout, coat hanger right inside the front door, no closet and a small dresser, but it did have a coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave and built in blow dryer / night light. Bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. (#31) Maybe because we had the office on one side and a breezeway on the other, but we barely heard anything, even from the cars and trucks going by right out front.
- Y5889CEstevem (8/5): Pleasant surprise. - Had to make short notice plans to attend a memorial service nearby and it was either this or the more pricey Best Western in town. Took a chance and stayed here. When we first drove up my wife kind of wrinkled her nose (the place isn't much to look at), and when trying to check in and the little old man trying to help us couldn't seem to figure it all out she really gave me a look! Got it squared away and off to our room we went. When entering the oversized room, there was definitely an odor, not bad but not sure what it was either, I got the look again. I checked the place out and seriously, everything was new. The walls were freshly stucco-ed and painted. There was a new marble sink countertop and surrounding the tub (real marble, not plastic), the carpet was, if not fairly new, at least cleaned very well. The bed was clean and extremely comfortable, we slept better here than at places costing more that twice as much. Even though it's located on a busy road, we could hardly hear a thing. There was a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker, again, things we didn't get at higher priced chains. (coffee fixins left a little to be desired, but we've learned to bring our own) Bathroom towels were cheap and small, but usable. Shower curtain looked to be precariously hanging on the wall so we were gentle with it, but no mishaps. Water took a few minutes to get hot, just like at home. I have to say that the fan was useless, just made a lot of noise and didn't seem to suck the steam out. The sink had no stopper in it and my wife did drop one of her hair clips down into the drain. Luckily I was able to fish it out. The new tile floor was very cold, the bathroom could use a couple of rugs. Coat rack is right inside the front door, no fancy artwork adorning the walls, in fact there was only one picture, hanging above the bed. A dresser next to the Mini Fridge. Overall impression is that it is..., well, outdated isn't the correct word, more like old fashioned with a new interior. Can't speak to the pool, it wasn't in use in March. Bottom line, would I stay here again? If circumstances were that I needed a place to get a good night's, no frills sleep, sure. Of course I can only speak for this one room (#31), I have no idea what the rest were like. I also have to add that there were only a few other guests while we were there, so it may be different when crowded.

It is the only game in town so maybe it is, however it is well kept and meets the travelers basic needs. Did not disappoint and there were no surprises.
- jess (10/5): GREAT PLACE!!! - Whispering Pines was a wonderful place! The front desk checkin was very friendly and helpful! The room was very clean and comfortable! It had fridge, microwave, and coffee maker and ice machine. The shower was very nice! It also had a flat screen tv with good cable and very fast wifi!!! We had no issues. The Pool was very clean and very close to the room. This was one of the most comfortable rooms we have ever been in! The landscaping was beautiful and you can tell that the owner and staff take pride in their business!!! We will be back and I would recommend this hotel to anyone!!!
- MsB215 (2/5): Run from the Roach Motel - I was registered for two nights this past weekend. Checked in Saturday night and did the customary bedding check. (Had a king suite) My little cousin went to check the sofa bed, our first sign was her finding a dirty sock with money in it. She took it to the front desk. When she returned she proceeded to pull out the sofa bed and screamed, there was a roach running across the bed. I went to the office to complain, taking the roach in a bag. He gave me a key to another room, complaining that I had messed up the room. Like, who doesn't check the bed, mind you we didn't reassemble the sofa be. (he offered a $20 refund, as the second room was a single like really) After looking at the new room and doing a bed check, the owner came and asked if we going to stay and then said never mind, leave and don't come back. I told him that I didn't know why he had a bug up his butt. He processed a refund to my credit card, however, he told booking.com that I had not check in, in an attempt to get compensated for one night stating to them that I was a no show. The end result was, yup, you guessed it, he didn't receive one dime. And was reported to the Dept of health.

- wallacerd (2/5): latino party!!! - Bring your own cleaning supplies!! that is if you mind the smell of mildew, don't mind the sight of mold. They obviously are more interested in renting to construction workers that kept us up until 2:30 a.m. partying in the parking lot. We called the desk at midnight to try to get it stopped, and were told that if we didn't like it then leave. we have stayed here several times over the past, but NO MORE!!! I'd rather pay more money to stay elsewhere. This no-tell motel hasn't changed in the last 40 years. Don't recommend it to anyone other than partying twenty somethings!!!!
- 915christinak (8/5): Quiet - Stayed for 4 nights. It was very quiet. The owners were very nice. They were cooking something that smelled delicious. The pool was clean. The landscaping was simple yet pretty. The room was clean. Had all the basics needed. The ac worked great. The only thing I would suggest is they clean the walls & doors. There were stains & yuck that could turn a nice motel into a nasty one.
- Tuckergoose (8/5): A Good Northern Neck Motel - Ok, so the motel doesn't have a continental breakfast, maybe a little painting and fix up would help but still a very good place to stay and very economical. We've been staying here about once a year for the past 5 or six years and it remains a consistently dependable, if not upper-level, motel. Our beds were very clean and well made, hot water, good cable television, plenty of parking and a friendly gentleman at the counter. You have to remember, you're in the Northern Neck. The motel receives minimal visitation which means they operate on a budget doing the best they can. And they offer a clean, comfortable room, maybe needing a little clean-up/fix-up, but still a very good deal for the price. If you're used to the larger chain hotels then please, go there but if you don't mind something more "local" more congenial then I'm sure you'll appreciate the Whispering Pines.
- Multusanimus (4/5): Fishing trip - You do not expect much but this is less than your expectations. The place smelled like mildew. The furniture looked like salvage from the dump. They provide one towel per person so if it gets dirty tough luck. The biggest issue I noticed was no one on duty as night clerk. If you had a problem you would have to wait until morning. My trip was for 3 days but had to cancel after one night due to illness. I could not get anybody in the office or via phone to cancel the reservation. I was changed for all 3 days at checkin. Beside being sick I had to wait until 0900 for person to check me out. They didn't know how to credit my cc so had to leave and hope that it would happen. It did. My issue is that there are no good hotels in that area. If they want to have tourist business the need to attract major hotel or motel chains. I won't return to that area again
- Tony2237 (10/5): Recommended - newly refurbished, clean, spacious. all good. Swim ming pool was adequate although didnt get time to use it. In room tea/coffeeand a good size fridge. TV and Wi Fi. Easy check in and express checkout. Good location on main road, easy to find and within easy reach of neighbouring towns.
- karenmZ2470RR (8/5): Just What We Needed - This motel takes you back in time. It is clean, comfortable and nicely landscaped. The pool is clean and inviting in this 100 degree weather. The owners were very accommodating when our car broke down even after we had checked out. White Stone is centrally located and a good value for the area.
- Q475EEdianah (4/5): Not recommended - We visited there a year ago and loved the location.. On the day we left, we removed the couch cushions to make sure we had everything, we were shocked to find A LOT OF SPIDER WEBS WITH SPIDER SACKS!! My son slept on that couch for 4 nights! So when traveling to see my husbands daughters 2 weeks ago.. We brought the spider spray! To our surprise.. Same thing!! Table leg was broken and wobbly and needless to say, we won't stay there ever again!!
