Guest Reviews
- cheyne (7/5): Very good - Breakfast very good and location great.
Bearings in the pool motor need fixing. Very noisy especially at night. Samara beach is not that great but nearby Carillo Beach is fantastic
- Filipe (9/5): - Friendly staff and good location
- haley (10/5): -
- EVELYN (7/5): All the staff were awesome - Good food at very reasonable prices.
Short walk to south end of Playa Samara.
Woke one morning to Howler Monkeys. Info indicated short walk to Playa Carrillo- but not short and not an easy walk as all on highway, with no walking lanes.
- Szilvia (8/5): Ein rundum gelungener Aufenthalt.

- Coastal46907706942 (10/5): Bliss on the quiet side of Samara… - I can’t imagine a better place for a happy family vacation in Samara. With a lovely pool, kind staff, a decent onsite restaurant, tropical fruit trees, and a relatively secluded beach just down the gravel road, this hotel is pure bliss.
- Davelene (9/5): -
- brilandhen (10/5): Had a lovely relaxing time, Super small friendly hotel. - We like the location away from town and a short walk from the beach. Friendly atmosphere[her, the rooms were large and well maintained . The pool was cleaned every morning and the water continually filtered, water was warm and very enjoyable in the heat to cool off. I think the prices were fairly average for Guancaste in March so, as prices go in Costa Rica, good value. The service was efficient and friendly, and when my husband tripped and fell he received absolutely great attention and care. The hotel provided chairs for the beach, the walk was genuinely 5 minutes to Samara beach. The fruit drinks were 'mmmmm' and the breakfast fruit was always good to eat, never over or under ripe.

- U1243LYlawrencel (10/5): A great experience at the Hideaway Hotel! - We haver stayed many places in Costa Rica, and I can tell you the Hideaway Hotel is at the top of the list. Beautiful quiet setting, rooms are spacious, clean and well appointed, entire staff was fantastic, pool, bar and excellent restaurant is a huge plus, and only a short 1 minute walk to beach for spectacular sunsets and warm ocean swims. Daily visits from the monkeys was very enjoyable also. We will definitely return to the Hideaway Hotel, and highly recommend this wonderful facility.

- Angela (7/5): Nice hotel with friendly staff . Property is nice with a short walk to the beach . Would stay again . - Nice room. Large and spacious with king bed , a/c and large bathroom and shower. Breakfast included is very nice. Nice pool area. I find the bed a little too firm but that is a personal preference. A microwave would be nice to have.
- marilynj2023 (10/5): Great spot for quiet relaxation! - Great hotel, very spacious room, clean and modern, AC worked great!
Nick, the owner, and his staff were amazing. Most of the staff spoke English and were very helpful with arranging taxis and excursions.
Bar/Restaurant on sight had delicious food and drinks. Mahi mahi was spectacular and best coffee we had in Costa Rica!
Pool area is small, but quaint and quiet.
Hotel is not within walking distance to Samara or Carrillo so having a car is recommended. However taxis are easy to obtain.
- Linda (9/5): Friendly hotel near Samara - Lovely quiet hotel outside of town. Fresh breakfast, friendly staff, nice extra amenities like chairs for the beach. Plenty of monkeys in the trees!!! Pool could be updated!
- Melissa (7/5): - Clean, comfortable room Breakfast was included but was delivered in polostyrene and was cold
- Marco (8/5): - Il ristorante Un giorno solo il vicinato
- Suzanne (10/5): Quiet and comfortable small hotel near the beach. - We loved the Hideaway Hotel. Small and friendly, very comfortable. Excellent food and smoothies, with restaurant open all day. Short walk to beautiful Samara Beach. Away from the hustle and bustle of the town. A bit more variety in breakfasts would be good for a longer stay.
- Pomarez (9/5): -

- David_McCarthy (10/5): our favorite stop in Costa Rica - This was our favorite stop in Costa Rica. We arrived here and never wanted to leave. The beach was only a few minutes walk away, and the sunsets over the Pacific were beautiful. The hotel itself was wonderful -- a spacious room with a seating area with room to relax, a patio (or balcony for the second-floor rooms), and a restaurant overlooking a beautiful pool, Breakfast was included each day, and we took most of our mid-day and evening meals at the hotel restaurant. The staff was amazing -- very attentive and kind. We give this our highest recommendation.
- Bobbi-Lynn (9/5): We enjoyed our time there and would plan on going back! - The beach was LOVELY! Short walk. Staff were fantastic. Surroundings were lovely, pool was a bit on smaller side, which we knew before we booked, still lovely. I would have preferred to have a seating area with the TV (sit on furniture rather than the bed to watch a bit of TV)
Rent, store rom.
- Roberta (10/5): Lovely, relaxing time in the sun. - Lovely pool area. The girls who run the reception and restaurant are absolutely brilliant - so hardworking and with a great sense of humour. Nothing
- Richard (8/5): A quiet hideaway at the south end of Samara - The location. For us we liked being at the "bottom" of the bay for a more peaceful experience. We also liked being able to walk to the other beach Carrillo Playa which was had more shade and lots of shells at low tide (don't take them home). Staff were very nice and breakfast was good. WiFi was non-existent in our hotel room. We had to go to the reception/restaurant area to get a signal.
- Philippe (8/5): Très bon séjour -
- Mary Ellen (9/5): -
- JimmyD83 (10/5): Relaxing at the Hideaway - My wife and I spent two weeks at the Hideaway, which we have done annually since 2021. As always, the room was perfect, the staff was highly efficient and friendly and the food expertly prepared. While we are older, the Hideaway does well by its family guest, whose younger members enjoy the pool, iguanas, and monkeys (Howling Monkeys are a common sight in trees visible from, but not in the hotel ,and they never interact with humans.). Samara Beach is 250 yards away, excellent for open water swimming and makes for a pleasant two mile walk to or from the town. We will be back next year.
- dalepC1259VW (10/5): Best hotel in Samara - This is the best hotel in Samara. Just got back from my 12th trip there and when in Samara, the Hideaway is the only choice. The staff is the best!!!
- Sharen (10/5): We would recommend this oasis without question! - The Hideaway was FANTASTIC and a beautiful place to stay! From the moment we checked in (with Brian) until the moment we left, our stay was perfect. The staff were exceptional - many compliments to Brian and Maria. After a lovely breakfast we would walk just a few minutes to Samara Beach and then into town (50 minute walk on the beach). The Hideaway is also very close (within walking distance) to Carrillo Beach and it too was amazing and is a "must see". All of our cocktails and meals were VERY delicious. ALL of the staff were wonderful and treated you as family. We would absolutely recommend this place to anyone and we hope to stay there again in 2027! Thank you to all for making our vacation so wonderful! There was nothing we didn't like - we even loved listening to the howling monkeys very early in the morning and then enjoyed watching them in the trees!!!!
- Jennifer (10/5): We absolutely LOVED our stay and would return in an instant! - Gorgeous property!!! Very close to the beach. Very clean and spacious room with beautiful views. We loved the small, private, oasis like feel of this place and the staff were SO KIND. It was a wonderful place to stay with our two small children. The restaurant food and drinks were good and reasonably priced. We appreciated that it was quiet and a little ways from town, but we also had a rental car so that we could easily get into town or to nearby beaches. It may be a little harder to place to stay without your own car. Go to Playa Carillo!! The entire visit was truly magical. The mattresses were hard.
- chrisitnew2016 (10/5): Family reunion - We spent a wonderful week at The Hideaway Hotel. Our group consisted of 4 adults and two children ages 6 and 8. Maria and Bryan went out of their way to make our visit memorable. The rooms are comfortable, with great air conditioning and porches where we saw Howler monkeys and a cinnamon and rufous tailed hummingbirds.
Our visit included daily breakfasts which were delicious regional food.
The pool was a highlight for the kids!
This is a high quality small hotel and I would return here if we come back to Costa Rica.
- garryp766 (10/5): Hideaway hotel is a place you wont want to leave. - Hideaway hotel checked all the boxes for usand more. 1. Walkable to beach for 71 yr couple. 2. Room was very nice. 3. Food was very good. 4. Staff were friendly and did their best to get you what you wanted. 5. We saw monkeys in the trees most days
- Juan Gabriel (10/5): -
- vivianrD1438TX (10/5): Luxurious tropical resort - Luxury stay worth the expense. We saw 3 types of monkeys on property, many species of frogs and birds in the tropical rainforest resort. Ishmael provided knowledgeable, personable customer service. Charlotte and Juan Carlos' spa experience allowed for superior massage and relaxation environment. Our meals were delicious and our room luxurious. Everyone we met raved about their experience. We highly recommend
- Tomasz (8/5): Good property with just few things missing from being really great - Well maintained property. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Abundance of wildlife. Extra hard mattresses 🙁 Hard to get a good night sleep. For good beach experience one needs to go to Samara - no beach amenities by the hotel. We didn’t mind the walk as the beach is super walkable (3km to Samara). Taxi - $10 one way.
- Nemo (9/5): Schönes und komfortables kleines Hotel an ruhiger Lage. - Schönes Zimmer, sehr freundliche Mitarbeitende, ruhige Lage. -
- Juan david (9/5): Excellent hotel by beach hidden from the samara hussle and bustle - The property is situated out of the main samara town but a stone throw away from the beach - the walk by the beach into the main town takes sone 20/25 minutes and offers stunning views. Staff at the property were incredibly kind;attentive and always in hand to help with taxis or queries etc. A really good family team running the place. We were treated to breakfast by the pool whilst the iguanas played in the gardens and the howler monkeys played above us most mornings. The breakfast was very good. The food menu could be a little more varied but not a deal breaker. The breakfast was very good indeed.
- Craig (10/5): Nice location, easy walk to beach, comfortable stay, fantastic staff - Walking distance to beach, comfortable room, great breakfasts included, nice pool, and fantastic staff it would have been nice to have an ice machine on-site so we didnt need to ask for ice daily
- S4426LQamye (10/5): Great room, great staff - This place is really great. We loved the room - king size bed, big bathroom, chair and sofa and outdoor seating. The mattress was kinda firm for my bad back, but I did okay. The staff is very friendly and eager to help. We saw monkeys in a tree right next the hotel the first evening we arrived and heard the howlers every morning. (Bring those ear plugs!) There is a pair of iguanas roaming the property too.
The nearby beach (walking distance is nice) but the beach just south of Samara - Carillo - is the best beach I have ever seen in CR - and I've been to many! I don't recommend this place without a car - it's a 50 min walk along the beach to town. We liked Samara (say "SAM-a-ra") - small town but has all you need.
- Denis (9/5): -
- Avati (8/5): -
- Pranjal (10/5): - Absolutely loved our stay. Hotel is in a prime location between two beaches--Samara and Carillo, we chose to drive to Carillo beach since it was very close and had better views. However, could also stroll to Samara beach through the road near the hotel. Room was very clean and perfect for our needs. Staff was very kind and helpful. Free breakfast was perfect for slow mornings before heading to the beach. 10/10 highly recommend! The parking lot was a tight squeeze, but the staff helped us in navigating our car out from the lot.
- Junie (9/5): -
- Michael (9/5): Comfortable stay with friendly staff - All of it was really good. Good sized rooms, great staff, clean, directly located alongside the beach approx 4km from town centre ; walking distance of Playa Carrillo too. Breakfast was good although could be more generous. We did ask for items to supplement and these were happily provided
- Q3787QOdonnac (10/5): We Can’t Wait to Go Back! - The Hideaway Hotel is fantastic! The staff is incredibly helpful and very friendly. The hotel is far enough away from the hustle and bustle so you can truly relax. But close enough so you can fully enjoy your time in Costa Rica. You can walk a short distance to the beach. The hotel has everything you need, restaurant, bar, pool, laundry service, so you really don’t have to leave if you don’t want to. All the meals we had at the restaurant were delicious, breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a full bar, with specialty drinks, beer and wine also.
If you are looking for adventure, you can book trips right there at the front desk; zip line, ATV trips, scenic flights, jungle tours, you name it. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable, service came in every day to clean.
We would highly recommend staying at The Hideaway Hotel!
- Guenther (8/5): - it is secluded in a lush garden but still easy to access from the main road and just some minutes to Samara.
the Beach can be reached justbby walking down couple of minutes, Hotel also provides beach equipments.
it is a very welcoming but small hotel with authentic charme everything got a bit old but its still ok (price/value is fully ok)
breakfast options are limited (respecting it has just around 10 rooms)
there is an restaurant but not even own hotel website mentioned it, therefore nobody goes there.
- Joanne (10/5): Great stay! - The pool and dinning area were close and convenient Was a little farther from town had to walk or take a cab.
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Norbert (9/5): Great stay out of town - We have been visiting the area for many years and we had a car, so for us the location was fantastic. Walked out to the beach every morning, literally a 3 minutes walk. The staff was wonderful, breakfast was delicious, rooms are super spacious and clean. Even if it is the rainy season (october), we enjoyed the Pool in the rain :-) Hard to complain about anything, for us, it was perfect!
- Keri (10/5): - Kind and helpful staff. Restaurant is delicious.

- stefanie (9/5): - Staff are very friendly. The rooms are spacious and clean. Restaurant and bar on site was great.
Very close to both beaches.
A perfect retreat for peace and quiet.
- James (10/5): - Secluded south end walk to Playa Samara Beach. Monkeys serenade you everyday. very good kitchen. Close to Samara Village and Playa Carillo. Not really close enough to walk. Peaceful.
- ROMULO (9/5): -
- Pietro (9/5): -
- Pietro (9/5): -
- Enrico (9/5): So macht Urlaub Spaß - Ein kleines Hotel was alles richtig macht. Es gibt nichts auszusetzen, alles bestens. Es wurde versucht alle wünsche zu erfüllen.
- Christoph (8/5): Kommen wieder! - Gute Lage, ruhig, nettes Personal. Grosse Zimmer, Platz f Koffer, gute Dusche Hotel etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Aber egal.
- Claudio (8/5): - Staff was extremely kind.
The room was refurbished and clean, given that the overall property is slightly outdated.
There was a rave in a nearby property that started at 10pm on a Friday and was still going on at 2pm the following day.
While the hotel mentioned that they called the police, the result was a noisy night that had serious impact in the ability of guests to sleep.
- M7536SEalanw (10/5): Hands down five stars at the Hideaway Hotel! - As a part of our two week vacation in Costa Rica we stayed 3 nights at the hideaway hotel. The hotel is family friendly, good food, we especially loved the pizza! Philippe and staff were very accommodating of our special requests and against the backdrop of monkeys and pool waterfall, we will know we’ll return. Our only complaint is that there’s nothing to complain about!
- Auntykitty (10/5): Peaceful beachside hotel - We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of our trip in Costa Rica. Very cute and beautiful place away from the town. It was a 2 minute walk down to the beach where you can watch the sunset. Not very big so it’s nice and quiet. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Room was big with AC, a ceiling fan and WiFi. Outdoor pool was warm and refreshing with a small number of sun beds around it. There is lots of wildlife including geckos, iguanas, lizards and a pack of howler monkeys around the site. Small restaurant with good included breakfast and good, reasonably priced food at lunch and dinner. Big fans of Pipo’s mint lemonade! Samara was a little disappointing - lovely beach but no amenities at all which is a blessing and a curse. Town centre pretty laid back but expensive food and taxis quite hard to come by and expensive compared to elsewhere. We did a great boat trip though and spotted dolphins, whales and turtles.
- Herbert (10/5): - Nice hotel In Samara/Carrillo área!
- kristir848 (10/5): Exceptional Surroundings and Hospitality - I’m so glad that we stayed at the Hideaway Hotel as opposed to staying right in Samara. At the hotel, you definitely feel like you are in the rainforest. We saw several howler monkeys eating in a tree each day, and iguanas roam the property. The staff is exceptionally nice. Our stay wouldn’t have been the same without the fantastic hospitality shown to us by Felipe and Xinia. All of the food was so delicious. The included breakfast couldn’t have been better. Our plan was to eat dinner at different places in Samara each night; however, all but one night we ate at the hotel because the food and drinks are just that fresh and delicious! My only minor complaint would be that the pillows are really lumpy. If you are traveling to the Samara area, I would definitely recommend the Hideaway Hotel.
- Erica (10/5): Great customer service great facilities great access to beach beautiful overall! - It feels like you’re in a rainforest, but you’re actually a hop, skipand a jump away from the ocean.
- Cynthia (10/5): Beautiful Hideaway - Incredible service, the staff is super nice and helpful. The breakfast is great especially the breakfast burritos. Our host Dania was very knowledgeable and gave us wonderful recommendations. The beach was very close and not too crowded.
- Jason (10/5): - Everything was amazing.
- majao646 (10/5): A super relaxing spot in a peaceful setting - We loved our stay here, this little, cosy gem of a hotel is just our kind of place. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, well equipped and not overlooked. Good AC, big beds and tasty coffee. Tap water perfectly safe for drinking. No unnecessary outdoor lighting and distance from town ensure a peaceful sleep. Lovely pool surrounded by greenery. Food and drinks delicious ( great cocktails!) but just a little on the pricey side if you're on a budget. The staff are all wonderful, so helpful, warm and welcoming and yet unobtrusive. We loved the fact that you can borrow beach equipment from the reception. You do need a car to get around but not if you just want to get to the nearest beach. Not 5 star luxury but a very good standard hotel with a heart. Much recommended!
- 909assiat (8/5): Nice hideaway and safe choice - Quiet location, green and relatively small.
The room was clean and spacious. The cleaners removed a small wasp nest above the door on the first day. Friendly staff and guard at night.
The paths from the lobby to the rooms were unlit. The garden needs trimming. No filter for water. The pool needs retiling.
- Rolf (9/5): Superb - Nice boutique hotel on the south end of Samara Beach where it's quiet. The staff was exceptionally nice.
- Marc (10/5): - Good stay
- Jorge (10/5): - Cozy small hotel right in the middle of the forest. You will be able to see howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, multiple species of crabs, iguanas, coatis and squirrells.
The hotel is in a walking distance to South Samara Beach, and 3 minute drive to Carrillo Beach (highly recomended).
- Serena (6/5): Great place but dated. - The location was great, close to two beaches. Lots of creatures living in harmony in the grounds. The food was expensive in the restaurant. Breakfast was okay, but the portions were small. The hotel encourages positive reviews by giving ice cream or beer. Workmen were refurbishing an adjacent building and using grinders at 7am.
