Guest Reviews

- Jacob (10/5): - The breakfasts and dinners were exceptionally delicious. The service was excellent and the room attendant was very kind and supportive for our family. Both the in-room bath and the outdoor public baths were very nice, clean, and serene. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The Yamashiro Onsen area had a good number of family-friendly and cultural activities, but also felt very close to nature, like a small, off-the-beaten-path city.

- MING-JHE (10/5): -
- Eva (7/5): - Warm service and nice room Lobby a bit dated
- Sai Kwong (8/5): Great location with new facilities - The hotel i built recently and all facilities are new. Location is very good with only 5 minutes walk from Tsuruga station. Roomsoze is good and above average..
- Kaz (8/5): -
- McFadden (10/5): The staff were warm and attentive, the food was a wonderful treat, and the onsen was peaceful and beautifully serene. - The property offered a peaceful retreat right in the heart of town, close to several traditional public bathhouses. The staff greeted us warmly and looked after us throughout our stay. The food was fantastic and such a treat, and the onsen was peaceful and beautifully maintained. Everything was wonderful.
- Joseph (10/5): Staff, food, accommodation, onsen, exceeded all expectations - Everything. The staff were so good with us and our 9 month old. They were patient, supportive and really made the visit. The room + the ensuite onsen was perfect. The public onsen in the hotel and it was fantastic. Their half board breakfast and dinner were some of the best food we had our whole trip. We couldn’t rave about this hotel more. We left this morning and are still daydreaming about it.

- Jill (9/5): A trip to Japan must include a ryokan. - I especially liked the Onsen both the private one in our room and shared one outdoor. The location across the street from a Buddhist garden path with shrines was one of the most magical sites I experienced in our 2 weeks in Japan - More serene and private than Kyoto. The meals were like a Michelin-starred experience. It is a full eversión into Japanese cuisine. But it was the Ryokan staff (Midori & Tomoko) that made this ryokan a memorable experience. We had never stayed in a ryokan before so they gently guided us through the proper etiquette and dressed us in yukatas for dinner which they provided. We traveled there with our adult children and this ryokan was one of our most memorable experiences.

- Gemma (10/5): Best part of our trip to Japan - We have not felt so welcome as we had when we stayed at Tachibana. Every single staff member was so incredibly hospitable and lovely. We had one lady who took care of us during our stay and I regret not getting her name. Our 8month old baby was smack bang in the middle of teething and was a right menace but she had the utmost patience for her and was so excited to see her every time. The food was incredible, the amenities were spectacular - my husband tried their onsen despite being very shy simply because he felt so relaxed while there! And the service was just amazing. They were accommodative with our baby regarding her allergies and even helped us with her food! Thank you all for a lovely stay, we regret not having booked in longer. The town centre itself was also a lovely surprise! We will most certainly be back again :) Nothing, I’d be insane to have something to complain about
- Jairo (10/5): The perfect stay - Tachibana Shikitei made us feel truly at home. The staff were exceptional, and Hitomi-San was outstanding, warm, caring, and always making sure everything was perfect. She was the best of our stay and we are deeply greateful for her kindness.
Our room with the private onsen and the view to the shrine was incredibly beautiful, a dream stay. The meals were unforgettable, the hotel spotless and perfectly organised in every detail.
They even shipped a jacket we forgot to our next hotel free of charge, the kindest gesture and a great example of their amazing hospitality.
We couldn’t ask for anything more. Absolutely perfect in every way.
Arigatou gozaimasu!
We will definitely return. Everything was perfect
- Dušan (10/5): Jedinstven i neponovljiv doživljaj tradicionalnog Japana.
- C (10/5): - Beautiful place to relax. Located in an Onsen town, Tachibana Shikitei provides mulitiple opportunities for guests to relax and enjoy nature.
I took a walk to the temple, shrine, and through the quaint Onsen town. Took advantage of the bath 3 times!
Would absolutely love to stay here again.
- Madelen (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay - room was beautiful, service impeccable, and I would like to thank the staff helping us for making our stay nothing but the best.
- Alex (5/5): An interesting and very immersive experience, if you’re willing to let go you’ll love it, if you want free will, be care - A good sized room, clean facilities, nice area if you’re looking for a rural Japanese experience Very ‘full-on’ experience, you need to be completely ready to let go and have someone in your personal space at all times. If you try to deviate from the plan there is plenty of resistance. Be ready to eat what you’re told at the time you’re told, in your bedroom - there is no restaurant. If you’re looking to be mothered and lose free will during your stay, it will be great. Going in summer may not be the best - no need for a hot spring when it’s 27 degrees at midnight.

- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing property; delicious food and very warm staff. The onsen in the ryokan was beautiful and a superb experience. Loved everything !
- Colin (10/5): Very relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings - Huge, beautiful, comfortable apartment. The staff & service was fantastic; very attentive. It’s expensive but the experience was fabulous. We were given traditional outfits to wear for the kaiseki style dinner in the room. The food was delicious & very plentiful. Breakfast was the same - so much food! The highlight was the private heated spa pool on the balcony. It was a lovely relaxing experience in the middle of a very busy tour of Japan - just what we needed!
- Paul (2/5): One of the worst hotel experiences of my life - We did not enjoy the stay at all - we booked for 2 days but left after 12 hrs it was not an enjoyable experience Nothing the food was inedible there was no shower ( that we could see) so we ended up having to leave without showering…. We tried to speak to the hotel but no one spoke English and forced us to pay everything upfront it was a horrible experience I did not eat anything for 24 hrs
- Panya (8/5): Very good -
- Vanese (10/5): - Our family of 3 had a wonderful 2 nights stay here. We book a Japanese room with private onsen and it was fantastic! Futon was really comfortable too with bean pillows that provided good head support. All the staffs were friendly and welcoming, especially with my 21 months old daughter. Breakfast and dinner was one of the best we have had among all the Ryokans we have stayed in Japan so far. The food quality was excellent and of superior quality, you can see the Chef's effort and sincerity when preparing each dish. We love that we had our own dedicated little private room to dine in throughout our stay. Thank you to our host that took care of us, from preparing the futon, tidying the room and serving our meals. We highly recommend staying here to whoever that is considering this place.
- Sunshine15517596388 (10/5): Excellent Ryokan - Excellent service. Breakfast and dinner were as pretty as they were delicious. Extremely clean. Mika was assigned to take care of us and our room for 3 days during our stay. Thank goodness we had Google translator. The private onsen on our balcony was great. Strongly recommended this place.
Beware the shops in Kaga and at least a nearby town were closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so the whole town was quiet.
- Aleksey (9/5): Superb - Very friendly personal. Great dinners and breakfast! Small hot bath on the room terrace was nice!
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -

- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacqueline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Arthur (10/5): Overall a relaxing stay. - Facilities were very clean and the onsen was functional. Staff were sweet and friendly with a high service mindset. The pick up times from the train station could have been more flexible.
- Chee (9/5): Superb -
- Loek (8/5): Very good -
- Katrina (9/5): It's a lovely ryokan with hot springs. The staff was very attentive and the location is great. -
- Marc (9/5): Superb -
- Rebecca (10/5): Wonderful 2 night stay - We had the most wonderful stay here for our honeymoon, staff were so friendly and ensured we were looked after well. The hotel was spotless and the decor was incredible. The private dining was fantastic with lots of different courses. We highly recommend staying here!
- Rabie (10/5): A great relax break, wonderful place and very kind staff. - This SPA hotel is awesome. We loved the place, our room and the onsen. The staff was amazing, very very kind and helpful. They offered us a free shuttle service to the train station and they kindly provided us with an excellent vegetarian/vegan dinner and breakfast. Really nice place for relaxing and having a break. We loved everything.
- Kerry (10/5): Incredible slice of culture in one night! - Such a wonderful experience unlike any other. We were the only foreign tourist at the time and felt welcomed with open arms. The facility is beautiful and serene and we felt like we were being doted on by a bunch of aunties. Loved every moment.
- Ahmad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bing (10/5): It’s a perfect place for an ultimate Japanese luxury experience. - We chose this luxury traditional hotel to end our two-week trip in Japan. We were not disappointed. Our room included half board. The room itself is spacious with an outdoor Onsen facing the greens. We were treated like the kings the moment we arrived. The diner and breakfast were delicious and gastronomic. We enjoyed it so much! Nothing!
- Rachel (10/5): Fantastic Stay - Kana was AMAZING and made the stay so lovely! The room was incredible and the private tub was spectacular. I really loved the view of the temple from our room. It was also great to try the regional food. The presentation was beautiful. We enjoyed our authentic experience at this very traditional Japanese inn! Nothing. It was perfect!
- Yuki (10/5): Amazing - Marvelous service, spacious room with external bath
They pick you up from/ to the shinkansen station, making everything easy.
Amazing food
They also provide additional yukata for women (cuter ones) which is a nice touch

- Dina (9/5): Superb -
- Colleen (9/5): We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful ryokan with impeccable service. - Our premium suite with open air bath was beautiful, spotlessly clean and spacious for four adults. We were picked up at Kagaonsen Station and taken to the ryokan. The service in this ryokan is impeccable and we just loved the woman who took care of us and served us our meals. Even though we spoke almost no Japanese and she spoke almost no English, we were able to understand each other and she was such a delight! Upon arrival the women in our group were asked to pick out yukatas and obis to wear. Clothing for the men are all the same and are provided in the room. Our luggage was taken up to our room for us and when we got to the room we were served matcha tea and a sweet snack. There is a booklet in the room in English outlining important things to know. We were asked what time we would like our dinner and our breakfast as well as what time we would take the shuttle back to Kagaonsen Station.
While some of us used our private open air bath, I used the public bath which I had all to myself. They had an indoor bath and a beautiful outdoor bath. After getting dressed in our yukatas we made our way down to the lounge for the complimentary yuzu sherbert. Dinner was a beautifully presented multi-course meal served in our room and we could barely finish it all. Every night in the lounge, there is music and tonight was an accomplished pianist playing classical music. Our room had two twin beds so two of us slept on the tatami mats. Instead of using regular futons, they put down thick pads almost as thick as a regular mattress and I had a very comfortable sleep. The next morning, we walked around the town (there are complimentary bicycles you can borrow). Breakfast was another beautiful multi-course meal and we had a bit of time to take another bath before catching the complimentary shuttle back to Kagaonsen Station. All in all, a beautiful experience. I liked everything about the ryokan. The only negative is that the actual town of Kagaonsen was not as charming as I hoped.
- Ninianne (10/5): It was exceptional, and a treat. - The staff were exceptional, and the location and facilities were fantastic. Dinner was generous and delicious.
- yasuko (4/5): - Very disappointing. The food at a ryokan is at least half the value of the experience. I have been to many ryokans from budget to luxury and by far, the food here, was the worst. Tasteless and poorly prepared. Like it came from the fridge to perhaps the microwave in some cases and then to our table. August is not a popular time to visit this area so perhaps the chef was on vacation. The room itself was pleasant. The private outdoor bath was nice. The public bath facilities were fine. They do not offer slippers (highly unusual) because they claim that the public spaces are very clean so no slippers are necessary. The spaces may be clean but my son got a splinter walking on the wooden floors. The staff are pleasant and the shuttle service from the station is very convenient. But none of it justifies the price. I wanted to take my mother to a luxury ryokan as a special treat. I really wish I picked somewhere else.

- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great service. Nice food. Friendly staff. Huge room
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent service! All staff are professional and always anticipate your needs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- djmontano (10/5): Wonderful stay with my family and our Japanese friends - A great way to experience genuine Japanese hospitality in a Ryokan hotel. We came here with my folks' dear Japanese friends who booked this hotel. A Ryokan hotel is a traditional Japanese accommodation where you sleep on tatamis (mattresses) that are laid out for you on the floor.
This particular Ryokan was classy. The staff were extremely courteous and well-mannered. Though they hardly spoke English, they knew what we needed. We came in late in the afternoon after touring Kanazawa and it was perfect to go into the therapeutic Hot Springs. There's one for the ladies and one for the gentlemen. You go down from your rooms in your robes and disrobe in the lockers. Bathing in the hot springs is very relaxing and you can immediately feel its medicinal benefits.
Since we were a group of 15 pax, we had our own room where we dined so well. The second night was particularly memorable when we had our Kaiseki dinner. The fish was very fresh and the meat, tender. Everything was prepared and presented beautifully. The children had their own platters that were more kid-friendly.
Whenever we would go off on a tour, the whole lobby staff would escort us out and wave us pleasantries as we went on our trip.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience genuine Japanese hospitality.
- lanlan (8/5): - staff are all very nice. Maybe the hotel needs some refurbishment overall.
- amyjan (10/5): Great hot spring, food and staff - Though not many staff speaks English, their warm and tentive service make us feel like home. The hot spring is great and the food their prepared for us is amazing! We stayed in the largest room which was remodeled a couple of years ago. We have a lady who service us whenever we are in the hotel and she was wonderful. Whenever we came back from outside, the staff would be waiting for us by the front door.
This is our first visit and we would like to come back in another season.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Enjoyable and relaxing stay with family~ - Excellent service provided by friendly and helpful staff. Staying in such hot spring hotel is a good way to experience the traditional Japanese culture~
- Maya762015 (4/5): Do not go there! Big building without charm. Food not very good. - I have chosen Tachibana shikitei as there are good photo and review. Do not book because of the photo of trip advisor, it is indeed the lobby but then a big building, quite old without charms. People are ok but not too nice compare to others place and priçe is too expensive compare service. Food is ok but you can find much better at cheaper price in another place. At price of more than Euro 500 per room with private outside, you can expect clean room which is not the case, japanese chairs dirty, bathroom dirty, carpets too. Onsen do not have a view. Definitely it is not a good choice to go there.
- Kirlian72 (10/5): Simply perfection - Everything was very close to perfection. The ambience and rooms were wonderful. The dinner served in room was incredible: very high japanese cuisine. The onsen (public and private) was a great relaxing pleasure. The staff was really really nice (I will never forget the wonderful woman who took care of us). Most of the staff (except in reception) was speaking only japanese, but this is normal in a ryokan and they did all they can to make us feel very comfortable anytime. I will surely return, the price - altough may seem high - is appropriate to what you get.
