Guest Reviews
- Alvaro (10/5): - clean room, good service
- DWIGHT (2/5): - I was locked out of the property. I need my refund. I informed the owner yesterday sept 24 that my flight arrives at 8:30 pm. I got to the property at 8:38pm and there was no one. I ran the doorbell m, knocked called and no one responded. Fortunately the taxi operator waited and took me to another property not to have me out in the cold
- Padmini (4/5): - The attendant was rude and loud. We stayed here because we missed a flight and she came knocking on the door multiple times to ask if we found a flight. She also told us that we need to get data on our phones because she is will cut off the WIFI. She also had poor personal hygiene.
- Lazaro (2/5): - La mala atención de la camarera
- Verified traveler (2/5): Won’t stay here - This hotel was just convenient but I won’t stay here again. I got to the hotel and provided my booking details and I was told they got no booking for myself but after checking they found it. I got to the room and it wasn’t what I was expecting :( the tv was so far in a corner etc
- Siteseeing (2/5): - Host is terribly and unnecessarily rude to us and the persons responsible for dropping us there and making sure we’re okay and settled. One of us was feeling ill and needed some hot tea after a long day of travelling and she refused to give us hot water.
- EDGAR ANIBAL (2/5): - The owner charge additional for the reservation. I'd already paid reservation with Expedia but Owner claim for an aditional payment.
- Dunia (6/5): - It need be more attention
- jaylene (4/5): - Bad service
- Kira (8/5): - Property was adequate for my overnight transit. 3mins or so drive from the airport. Wifi connection was good, A/C in the room, I felt safe and I had a quite pleasant restful night sleep. Owner was there to check me in and kindly arranged my airport taxi for me the following morning.
I would stay there again for transit stay.
- Karen (6/5): It served my purpose last minute - The check in lady was nice. The room is not as up to date but it served my purpose . I needed a save place to lay my head. They had a sheet . No blanket on the bed. I would book again. It’s basic but comfortable.
- Samuel (6/5): - Near transportation and near the airport
- Heidi (8/5): - Ms. Maureen was absolutely lovely. Like stepping back in time 1980s with furniture but clean and simple. Location was great, just a few minutes from the airport and easy to find. Definitely next place for future visits!!
- Pattel (4/5): - The landlord is trying her best, thinks she need extra hand for a better upkeep of the property, rooms need a serious upgrade
- Sanjay (2/5): - Window didn’t even have a glass and we could hear traffic all night. Bathrooms were never cleaned and were terribly dirty. Door mats were full of dirt. There were tissue papers, used soap bar, left over pea nuts from the previous guest. Very bad experience.
- Brenda (4/5): - What we liked was the location close to the airport. Maureen was very nice. One towel for two people, no blankets, one paper cup for two people. We were probably charged too much for a taxi to the airport. $25 US for about a 7 minute ride.
- Alain Miguel (10/5): - Definitely would recommend
- Rudolph (2/5): - Not a studio but a dingy room
- OSCAR (4/5): - Offensive dirty place.
- Ken (8/5): - Convenient for overnight stay near the airport.
- Kosinski Ike, De Paul (8/5): - I don't like how the place was not properly tidy up and freshen up before arrival but its an excellent location that is convenient to visit the embassy and the airport.
- Diciann (2/5): - Dirty and smells. Sheets was not changed and stains also oild from previous gust hair on pillow case. Toilets dirt with poo stains a
- Marissa (2/5): - It says walkable, but this place is NOT walkable from the airport. Unfriendly and unwelcoming front desk. Rooms are VERY dirty. Towels with stains, sheets with stains, dirty bathroom etc. Not worth the the price. a motel 6 in the states is LUXURY compared to this place. Your better off staying somewhere else
- janine (4/5): - The landlady was very rude. We arrived and she seemed annoyed, asking “do you have a reservation!?” Once confirmed that we did, she kept saying that she didn’t have it in her book. We had to tell her exactly what date it was booked before she found a box with the details. Even asking for the WiFi password was an issue. Not sure why she was so unfriendly.
Upon showing us our room, her first comment to us was “we’ve been getting bad reviews about how dirty the place is, so please inspect the room”. We inspected it and it was clearly dirty especially the bathroom. I pointed out 2 stains on the bedsheet and her response was “oh I don’t know how that got there” and then proceeded to ask me if my hair was dyed because a previous tenant messed up her sheets with their hair dye. The bathroom was so dirty I couldn’t believe she stood there and had the nerve to ask us if it’s clean! The sink and bathroom itself were brown with water stains and grime. The mats on the floor had clearly not been cleaned in ages, it was so dirty. Even for an overnight stay (for a layover in Barbados) I would not recommend this place due to the uncleanliness. It would be wise to spend an extra few dollars to stay anywhere else!
- Melanie (4/5): - Room was not properly cleaned
- etienne (10/5): - Very helpful manager / owner
- Khadisha (6/5): - I was very disappointed with the poor conditions of the property.
I had to move to a different room because of the AC was not working.
I also had to ask for the bathroom to be cleaned as I can see it was not properly cleaned after the previous guest.
- Andrew (4/5): - Says within walking distance of the airport. Yes it is thought it’s along a main road. Booking system very strange! My booking could not be found. Even thought I showed all the paperwork. Paid a decent amount for one night sleep. Wouldn’t advise going to this place.
- karianng2024 (2/5): Save yourself, haha. - For the love of god, and all that is mighty, noooo. Save yourself. Save money. Save sanity. I’d rather risk sleeping outdoors in an alley.
Ps. Maureen was kind.
In general; out of many countries I’ve been to, I would never return to Barbados due to the rudeness received from multiple locals. Very strange as I’m a kind person and usually keep to myself. Horrible experience.
Unless you plan on staying at a 5 star resort and not receive the true culture as I love experiencing (in all instances) except Barbados.
I slept in my suitcase, like a pretzel, paying 100 USD.
Counting the seconds for my departure..
- Fanon (6/5): - The good thing is that is close to the airport and it's OK for one night stay, but the property really needs some renovations as it's definitely really old and not kept up to date. Needs painting and maintenance.
- Andrew (10/5): - It suited my purpose for a long connection to the UK and it is close to the airport.
- Kat040 (4/5): Beds clean, A/C clean, the rest filthy - This place is very close to the airport and not far from a wonderful Miami beach (ca 12 minutes by taxi). But don't stay here if you are squeamish. It's not clean.
To be fair, the beds were good and the bedding nice and fresh and well-ironed, the A/C was efficient, clean and quiet. That stood out amid the rest. If that's all you need, you're good to go. However:
The bathrooms especially made you wonder if you could hold it till the next day - very dirty toilet bowl (yes, there was some suspiciously short hair...), sinks with toothpaste and calcium stains, very filthy bathroom mats, don't get me started on the toilet brush which looked like Jason Pollock could've had lots of fun with it...
There were some drying dishes and a balled up old moist rag in the kitchen as we got in and the carpets needed a good hoover.
The owner is an elderly lady, if she gets somebody to really, really clean the place, perhaps there's hope, it is good distance to the airport.
- Katerina (4/5): Good, clean beds and A/C, but all else filthy. - I'm sorry, but the place was dirty and kind of run down. It could be nice if they gave it a very, very good clean - the location near the airport is very good. But as it was, the bathroom looked downright menacing - complete with obviously unwashed sink (unwashed for a long time), dirty toilet bowl even with a few complimentary pubic hairs. I'm not even mentioning the very unmentionable toilet brush. Filthy bathroom mats.
To be fair, surprisingly, the bedding was clean and well-ironed and the bed was actually comfortable. The air conditioning was quiet and efficient and carrying no smells.
The owner is an elderly lady, she should get someone to help her and really take care of the cleaning. Fingers crossed the place picks up.
Practical note at the end - it is not possible to leave your luggage anywhere past the 12 o'clock checkout time.
- Rahman (2/5): - Very nosy and difficult Landlady. She was a serious busybody. She made my stay unfriendly and kept asking about my reason for visistibg Barbados and wanted to collect extra money for some fault at her place. I honestly would not recommend.
- Betty (2/5): - The worst place I’ve ever stayed in. Hardly any lights working, light bulbs either broken or not working. Doors hanging off furniture. Cockroach in the bathroom. Staff unhelpful, bordering on rude.
- Victoria (6/5): - Property close to the airport
- Ruth (10/5): Excellent nights stay - I had a lovely stay at the Shonlan Inn and apartments. I was met with a wonderful supportive service as I have additional needs. I would highly recommend this place.
- Kenyah (6/5): - The property is very close to the airport. Although the airport is in walking distance, there is no side walk along the highway so one would need a taxi once travelling with luggage.
The initial appartment assigned was not cleaned after the previous guest and the washroom was extremely dirty. However, the staff was very understanding and placed us in another room and apologized. This other room, although cleaner, more attention to detail could have been made. Rooms and facilities are out-dated but staff is very kind.
- Arielle (6/5): - I like the antique locks and look of the room it was spacious and clean. I don't like that I was locked out at one point when i returned from an outing and i feel i should also have a key to the main door not just the gate, so I wouldn't have to knock all hours of the night and i expressed this concern as well. However, over all it was a nice stay
- Natascha (6/5): Not quite what we were hoping for - My husband and I just needed a place close to the airport for one night until the rest of our family arrived the next day. The owner Maureen was gracious enough to check us in at around 10:30pm, which is past their usual check in hours. To make sure this wouldn't be a problem, I messaged them about that prior to our trip and received a friendly reply. Even though all seemed really good when I communicated with Maureen, when we got there we unfortunately did not feel very welcome and it was all very awkward. The room was basic, which was expected for the price, and even though it wasn't as clean as I would have liked, we did have clean sheets and received clean towels. We had Room 23 which backs to the street and with the wooden slat door being the only thing between us and the outside, it felt like cars were driving through our room. Woke up numerous times throughout the night when a car drove by faster and I am a good sleeper. In the morning the interaction with Maureen wasn't any more welcoming but she was then kind enough to help us get a taxi back to the airport, which I was having a hard time organizing myself. After that point we actually had a very nice conversation and for the first time I didn't feel like she had a problem with us, for whatever reason. Even with the friendly ending, I will say that one shouldn't expect too much and even though the place served our purpose, it unfortunately wasn't a very pleasant experience for us, which I wouldn't do again.
- Ava-Gaye (10/5): Great service - Great service and the facility is clean and well kept. The hispitality was awesome.
- Oral (6/5): - The property need to be modernized.
- Donna (2/5): - The room was dirty from floor to ceiling. The wash basin had old toothpaste splatter plus plus, the shower and shower curtain were filthy. the toilet had products from previous use. the sheets were not just dirty but used previously with stains and hair. The A/C pulled the old air from the floor...I sat in one place on a white wicker chair from mid night until 5am when i left without a shower!!
- Michelle (2/5): - Cheap thing nah good and good thing nah cheap.
Regardless of cost, once someone use a room it should be cleaned properly...bathroom dirty, sink not cleaned, towels and sheets dirty. How can you leave all used soap for others to use.
- Simone (2/5): - Dirty used sheets, dirty towels, floor and bathroom. Dusty.
- Sightsee00619738944 (2/5): Dirty, Filthy and expensive. I only stayed one night it was so filthy for me it was unbearable. WiFi and A/C did work . - I rate this experience 1 since the room I was assigned was very dirty, the bathroom was horrible I don’t think they ever clean the bathroom. The linen and towels has staines and hair.
The only thing was the A/C did work so did the WiFi.
The person that greets you is a bit rude I understand since an older person greeted me but what is not acceptable is how dirty this place was. I changed hotels the next day.
- Tyron (8/5): - Good Quiet lil spot to rest your head. Owner was very pleasent and helpful
- Taylor (2/5): - I booked to stay at this property last minute due to a connecting flight delay in Barbados. After travelling over 12 hours that day, I was rudely greeted. Check in took very long due to individual checking me in. In addition, I was insulted about my body size and questioned about my exercise habits. When I reached my room, it was very dirty (stains on bed linens and towels, dirty sink, toilet and shower). I spent the night crying. I would never recommend this property.
- C (6/5): - I was nervous to travel far out. I will next time because they had a bus service to take you to and from the airport. This place was close to the airport and there's a petrol station on your way there but other than that you will need to get the bus/taxi service which cost you 3.50BD each person.
Everyone has their views about this place I read them afterwards and regret not to listen because the only thing I really wanted from this trip was for my luggage to be there until it was time to go to the airport as our flight was in the evening.
You get what you pay for. It's basic, but the electricity was cutting out for the TV. We were in room 23 so the main road was opposite us. If you are a light Sleeper like myself it's very distracting.
There is no tea/coffee facilities, fridge or kettle.
The air conditioning was working great.
The owner has a tendency to asks questions and watch over you. If you don't mind this then you're fine if not this is not the place for you
- Louis (2/5): - Dirty bathroom, bedlinens and toilet. Windows could not be oppened in case of fire!!!
- Nicholas (6/5): - Quick overnight stay close to airport . Not for long term stay.
- winston (2/5): - npt close to anything
difficult to get taxix
very very far from dining limited tv
no customer service
would not stay there agin
would not recommend anyone to stay thee
- Acakim (10/5): - It was peaceful everything was lovely
- George (2/5): Worst place ever - I cannot believe this place is allowed to be rented for overnight stay. The place is very dirty and looks like it haven't been clean in weeks. The old lady got uspet because a clean sheet was requested for the bed. No one should stay in this place even if its free.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bad service - Host service was awful. Avoid at all cost.
- Leoni (8/5): - Very good
- Cheryl (8/5): - Quiet and peaceful environment
- Richard (2/5): - Booked a 2 br apt w/ 2 double beds. Got a 1br with1 bed. A real dump. Old lady who checked us in was absolutely the meanest, rudest lady ever met at a hotel. Too late to cancel. We were exhausted. Toilet made a noise like a car horn (no exaggeration). A/C terrible, bed terrible. Avoid this location at all cost!!
- Latoya (6/5): - Didn't have a stove or fridge tv wasn't up to time but the stay wasnt bad the ac was perfect and everything else just should of have a fan for people that dont like ac
- Michelle (2/5): Stay somewhere else! Very dirty. - I was so tired and no other rooms were available I stayed. Had to sleep on clothes in my suitcase because the sheets were dirty. Would not shower the towel was dirty. The woman at the desk offered me a fresh bar of soap, I bring my own, because the bar of soap was open. The room was not cleaned in quite some time. STAY AWAY.
- Kishore (2/5): - Poor service and dirty rooms... The bathrooms were dirty and didn't drain properly... Bathroom supplies were poor... The kitchen was dirty and lacked plates, cups, etc... The refrigerator couldn't freeze... Waited 3 hours for a towel... Long wait to register...
- Joan (2/5): - unbelievably rundown and lacks upkeep. not as advertised: no flat screen tv and older is one not working, no in room working fan, locked door unavailable to outside veranda adjancent ,no hot water or plug in sink, shower head leaky not working. no in room coffee maker or access to fridge in the room. Older lady not easily located as she refuses to say where she can be contacted on the property. Floors show lack of cleaning in the corners etc. Bed is composed of 2 sheets and no cover. Air conditioner very old and noisy and remote offered only later in the evening. Area is isolated for walkers to get restaurant access or other amenities. Walking to airport is a no no as a busy highway and no sidewalk. Bus to the airport is infrequent and not reliable. Taxis or shuttle arrangements from here are expensive if ordered. The property is padlocked so you cannot get out the front fence in the early hours if the lady is not around. No key to get out if a fire - locked in. Pictures do not show how run down it is. All guests quite unhappy that I talked to.
- Anne (10/5): - I spent a wonderful 8 days at Shonlan Inn and the hospitality was amazing. There is a local feel that makes it so authentic and the manager is very hospitable. She definitely exceeded my expectations. The location is convenient because it is less than 5 minutes from the airport and you can catch a bus to Bridgetown. The accommodation was clean and spacious and the residential neighbourhood's landscape is beautiful. I would highly recommend this for people who want a low key and relaxing stay. It is a breath of fresh air and I can't wait to go back.
- Sean (10/5): - The staff and accommodations were great!
- Kim (2/5): - When we arrived there was no room available
- leoniew2019 (10/5): Best stopover - Perfect for a stopover to catch the next flight.
The owner was very friendly. The room was basic and clean.
Excellent stay for backpackers, low budget and ones who wants to be close to the airport.
- Monika (4/5): - They don’t have TV in the rooms working
- Howard (8/5): Overnight at Shonlan Inn - My stay was a short one, basically overnighting. I got in earlier than check-in time and was accommodated with room access. Snacks that needed to be refrigerated were entertained. Being tired I did quite a bit of sleeping. However, this was in a clean and well-prepared room. The response to requests made to the manager was positive and good.
- Harry (8/5): - The staff/owner of the Shonlan Inn & Apartments is awesome. Very personable and went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable. Even though it was an holiday she advised us of how and where to find food to eat. I would definitely stay there again for overnight trips.
- Jeard (10/5): - The owner is extremely friendly. I really felt looked after by her. The place was clean and fit for purpose. I will definitely be coming back!
- Charlotte (4/5): - There is no cleaning staff, just the elderly owner who will not hire staff to save money. The exterior is beautiful but the bathrooms are filthy. The beds however are quite new and comfortable.
- B9611PZjohns (2/5): Avoid - Taxi took me here due to issues with Connecting flight
This is nothing more than a hostel roof tile falling down in room ,bed falling apart, everything covered in dust ,dirty ,terrible place not even 1 star
The bed absolutely stunk I should’ve slept on floor at the airport
- Paulette (6/5): - Should offer tea, coffee small snacks water
- Paulette (4/5): - Staff friendly but needs a lot of upgrades
- Martin (10/5): Polite, convenient place to rest your head - My stay was exactly what I needed it to be. A conveniently placed establishment to rest my head for a few hours. The lovely woman in charge was more than hospitable, opening the gate for me after hours and making sure I was out the door at 4:30am. She was one of the kindest women that I have met. It's nothing fancy, but you don't need it to be. Just be polite to your host. That's all she asks.
- Theresa (2/5): - What is great is its cose to airport but thats it. My room was dirty, there was no facilies. I would not recomend this place to anyone
- Magrian (2/5): - The shower had sand in it from the previous person who stayed in the room. There was no fridge in the room, and just the bathroom in general was unhygienic
- Victor (6/5): - The host was very nice
- Dustyn (10/5): Lovely Island Lovely People - Hot water was amazing and the manager was very accommodating and helpful, she was very kind and wished only the best
- Anthony (10/5): - Fantastic
- Alphonsus (4/5): - It’s close to the airport and major highways.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Unhygienic - The place was was not clean. You can see toothpate residue on the bathroom mirror and also the shower was dirty. Could do with a proper dusting.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I did not stay there because of covid rules they were not approved by the government
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No hot water in the shower. Everything else was satisfactory
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Short stay of two days, the owner was absolutely great. Very convenient location close to the airport.
- TywinCR (4/5): An Emergency only kinda place - I was stranded in Barbados for a night so to that end, it did the job. It put me up. However, it left a lot to be desired. The highway right next to it is so loud so sleeping is really hard and not helped by the itchy thin bed sheet I had to cover myself with. The AC is so loud. The door has large gaps under and around it with the nose of the other residents and tv pouring in. The lock on the door also felt quite flimsy and I didn’t feel that safe. The bathroom was quite grubby. There was nothing to eat in the evening and also no breakfast even though I paid for breakfast in my booking. One of the staff was kind but the other was so intimidating.
Luckily it’s probably the closest place to the airport(about ten minutes drive) so I was out of there sharp.
- itzadundeal13 (6/5): Carnival layover -
I stayed at the Shonlan Inn in a studio apartment, on a layover from Trinidad Carnival 2019. The Inn is very easy to get to from Grantley Adams International.
PROs:-
1) Relative ease when checking in.
2) Relatively decent customer service from Sonia (or Sonya- don’t quote me on the spelling).
3) The room was clean, neat and tidy upon entry. Brilliant & inviting sunshine poured in from the Bajan sun (once the curtains were parted).
4) Ideal for a quick layover in Christ Church, Barbados en route to your final destination.
CONs:-
1) Outmoded appliances:- TV 📺, which was mounted above the only wash sink in the studio. The cords for the TV were all uncovered. This strikes me as a safety hazard.
2) The wash sink was outside of the bathroom.
3) The bed was not the most comfortable, but served it’s purpose.
4) The stringent checkout time of 12 noon does not help the traveler with departures after noon. To stay even an hour beyond checkout is an additional US$2O dollars. Other places that I've stayed at were a bit more flexible with their check-in and out times, and additional charges levied.
I will say though, that once you get to explore the property, you will see how lovely it actually is. There are bigger rooms, with more spacious accommodations, and give a greater sense and feel like you are at a hotel.
With a few modernization improvements and general changes to the infrastructure, Shonlan Inn could become a shining gem on the Bajan south coast.
- rbbrno (10/5): Friendly staff - Close to the airport, good for early departing flight. Easy checkin - I could go to the room around midday already, room ok, bed comfortable. Staff very friendly and smiling. They called me taxi to the airport.
A Supermarket is like 15 minutes walking - see map - within the University village.
- 2670Stace (8/5): Courteous staff, Clean & Safe - I spent 2 nights at Shonlan Inn. Close proximity to the airport and good price. The accommodation was very good, clean room, okay bed, free WiFi, A/C and cable. Breakfast should be served a bit earlier though.Very courteous and helpful staff. I highly recommend Shonlan Inn for a short stay in Barbados.
- Wanderers58 (4/5): Only if you must - Booked in for a day after leaving cruise ship so had somewhere to freshen up prior to my flight. It served that purpose but no more. Front desk friendly and efficient organisation of a taxi but zero facilities and in a residential area with no where obvious to go to.
- lynem823 (8/5): Ovenight - Quiet and comfortable. We wished we had stayed longer. It was just too bad that we were only in transit. Now that we have found a cute plce to hang out.....So it is a must do for us. We slept very well in the cool rooms. The service was also very good.
Lyne Melia
- DcMbb (8/5): inexpensive, safe, clean kind staff - I overnighted in barbados on my way elsewhere. I stayed at the Shonlan, 5 minutes from the airport. I did not get in until midnight, but Debra was friendly and kind while showing me to my room. The place was clean, basic but still pretty, and quiet. I could not have asked for more, and would stay there again. For people who care, the water pressure is a bit low, and you have to run the water a bit to get it lukewarm, but I don't care about that when I am in the tropics and want to cool off anyway. It still was a warm shower. The bed was comfy, the room nicely decorated, and all in all the place is basic but perfect.
- 60sebrinac (4/5): Interesting stay... - My flight was cancelled so instead of going back to my original hotel, I googled places close to airport, found a taxi driver and I decided to stay here since my flight was rescheduled for 3am the next morning . I should have just returned back to my original hotel which was 25 minute drive away , instead of this hotel which was 5 minutes away. I'll start by saying that the woman who operates this Inn is very nice and has a sweet spirit. She seems very motherly and kind. However, the room had a few issues. Now keep in mind, I wanted the convenience of being close to the airport because I had a super early flight so I probably paid $50 for the night....and I got what I paid for. The air conditioner wasn't working in the very tiny room, the bed was uncomfortable and the water in the bathroom did not work. The host explained that the water in that part of town was regulated and reserved during certain times of the day, so after already being frustrated that my flight was cancelled, I was even more frustrated that I couldn't take a shower to relieve my stinky skin. I had to wait 4 hours before the water came on!! On top of that, the air conditioner still never worked properly. I would normally fuss and demand better service but I honestly felt sorry for the lady who was more my senior so I didn't want to bother her. I locked myself in the room and just counted down for 3am. The way the inn is situated, there are several other rooms directly next to yours . So If I opened my door, I could have easily walked into someone else. I'm sure that this Inn is mixed with men and women, so I felt u comfortable leaving my room since I was a solo female traveler . I know that the property was really secure because the host locked up the two gates ... so if I wanted to leave the property (which is not a good idea because there is nothing close by, no restaurants or anything...just the airport), I would have needed to ask her permission to leave since she needed to personally unlock and lock the gate as I arrived/departed. Thankfully I just needed a place to stay until my flight . I feel bad for giving her such a low rating because she was so sweet and pleasant but the lack of AC and water regulation made me miserable. I think I was close to tears because I was so uncomfortable. I'd like to think that her business would do well in the future because I do not want to tarnish her business because she's such a pleasant woman. And I also know that you get what you pay for but I wasn't expecting this!
Side note: I felt veryyyyyyy weirded out with the taxi driver (I wish I could remember his name). He dropped me off to this hotel and said he was familiar with it. After hours later of no AC or running water , I called the taxi driver on the phone in hopes of him dropping me to another hotel. I got his number because we had arranged for him to pick me up for my 3am flight also. I complained to him about the AC problem and no water however, I didn't have enough cash for him to realistically drive me elsewhere (but I had my credit card which would have helped with booking another hotel ). Anyhow, I stayed at the this hotel and sweated it out until my flight (literally). When he arrived to pick me up at 1am (2 hours before my international flight .... even though the airport was only 5 minutes away lol...I think I was also just anxious to leave), I noticed that he was speaking to the hotel host. I got into the taxi but he stepped out to speak to her. I couldn't hear what he said to her and I didn't realize he knew her because when he dropped me off to the place, he didn't speak with her as if they knew each other. Anyhow, I think he may have mentioned the AC/no water matter on my behalf (I never asked him to do this because I didn't plan on complaining to the host. She seems so sweet and kind and I just wanted to leave). After a few seconds, I saw her hand him something but her facial expression didn't look happy. I think he forced her to give him the money for my hotel stay. In other words I think he robbed the lady right in my face but I was in the taxi and they were standing outside in the dark. I was a little afraid and just wanted to go. I honestly think he took the money for my stay from her. It was the weirdest and most uncomfortable thing. Something didn't seem right with the taxi driver or the exchange between the two of them. He got in the car and drove off taking me to the airport. I got a weird vibe that he robbed her. I didn't ask any questions because it's 1am in the morning and dark and I just wanted to get to the airport safely. Something didn't sit well with me. I'm pretty sure he robbed the lady. I felt so horrible knowing that that potentially happened. I wanted to call her and compensate her for that happening. She was really a nice woman and she didn't deserve that. I wish I could have reported the taxi driver because I'm pretty sure my eyes did not deceive me...
- inman001 (6/5): Basic Accommodations Near the Airport - I often fly through Barbados to visit more remote Caribbean destinations and usually stay overnight at the Shonlan. While it is not luxury hotel, it is clean and within minutes to the airport. No other hotel in Barbados can make this claim. There is no restaurant on the premises or within walking distance; however the local KFC delivers. So don't expect too much, but if you need a clean hotel that's a short hop from the airport, this place fills the bill.
- B2961MNkimb (10/5): Very nice place. - My husband and I arrive at the Shonlan Hotel, and were welcome by the owner, Mr Reid. He was extremely nice, the hotel was clean, and we spend 2 week there. Transportation was near to travel to and from, easy to learn, and very helpful from the staff. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to travel to Barbados.
- Jenneloo (10/5): Lovely simple friendly hotel - Stayed one day at this hotel as I was in transit. My mum and myself was welcomed by a lovely elderly gentleman Mr Reid he was extremely welcoming and a pleasure to sit and chat with. His assistant Carlton was also a pleasure and very helpful in advising us on how to enjoy Barbados for the day. He walked us to the local bus stop which was outside the front of the hotel where we caught a local bus costing $2 Barbados which took us to St.Lawrence gap as well as Bridgetown the main city. Returning to the hotel was no problem. If you want a simple clean, comfortable safe place to stay chose Shonlon Airport Hotel. Sufficient accommodation with hot water and all you need to be comfortable. You won't be disappointed.
- 82Sunseeker82 (6/5): Clean and close to the airport - Hotel was clean and the rooms were nice with clean drinking water and Wifi. The manager is a nice old man who once you get to talking won't stop.
The hotel is close to the airport, but far from anything else. This is a good spot if you are just spending a night and flying out the next day.
No breakfast for us and they do charge for everything but that seems pretty standard in my experience.
If i was doing another overnight I would look at booking again
- inman001 (6/5): A Bare-bones Airport Hotel - If all you are looking for a clean, convenient place to overnight between flights at the BGI airport, this hotel might be your best choice. Although it is only 5 minutes from the airport, it seems to be in a residential area with nothing around it. I did not see a restaurant. Rooms are drab and small with minimal amenities. That being said, the AC and TV worked and the shower had hot water. A decent choice if you arrive late and have a morning flight out of BGI. Truthfully there is nothing else around that is close to the airport.
- 658ralpht (8/5): Nice familly house- Budget stay - Stayed one night here . Nice neat very quiet house, short ride from the airport. A bus ride to the city . Quiet lonely part of the airport. All amenities ( restaurant, cinemas, beach..) are a drive away. Nice friendly host. Family run hotel
- LuckyMe63 (2/5): Avoid - even if you need an overnight while in transit - The tourist office at Barbados airport recommended this hotel & called it to secure our reservation for 1 night.
The taxi pulled up outside a residential house and we thought there was some mistake – but no, this was the ‘hotel’!
The receptionist was friendly as she checked us in, but that was the best part of our stay.
We were given a rate of US$70 plus taxes bringing it up to US$87 and there was an additional charge of US$5 for air conditioning.
The room was small & clean. The receptionist gave us 2 bath towels and 1 small bar of soap. There was no hair dryer, iron, no drinking water.
There was no hot water for in the bathroom either the night we arrived or the following morning. The excuse given was that the water is heated by solar power and there had been a lot of rain the day we arrived.
Although we were told there was internet access, it was so slow as to be ineffective.
There is no restaurant or tea/coffee/beverage facilities – there was a coffee machine in the hall but they had no coffee.
A wake-up call for 7.15am arrived at 6am.
We were the only guests staying there that night.
This could not possibly be classified as a hotel or even a guest house, maybe a glorified hostel. Even if in transit again through Barbados, I would not stay here.
I have emailed the Barbados tourist board 3 times about recommending this dreadful place & have yet to get a reply
