Guest Reviews
- Antonelle (7/5): Overall, a pleasant and welcoming stay with genuinely caring staff. - Beachcomber Lodge was a wonderful stay. The staff were warm, welcoming and attentive, and really made us feel comfortable throughout our visit. Their friendly service was definitely a highlight. It is worth managing expectations, as this is a relaxed and simple lodge rather than a luxury resort experience. That said, while there is always room for improvement, the genuine hospitality made our stay enjoyable.
- Kate (10/5): -
- Judith (8/5): Enjoyed our time at Beachcomber Lodge. It would be nice to have some paper towel, clingwrap and foil in the kitchen and - Cleanliness. Nice towels and shampoo. Laundry facilities available to guests.
Willingness of Paul to drive guests wherever they needed to go Nothing
- Paul (9/5): - Friendly staff. Nice rooms. Great location.
- Sasha (10/5): Little paradise in big paradise - Gary Paul and Ellie are such lovely humans. Felt welcomed and they were available for anything I needed to ask. The bed was huge and so comfy to slip into after a day of action and the shower pressure just perfect. WiFi strong no glitches and the kindness of daily turn downs of the room so special. Being walking distance to all the town and tour places as well as Ned's and hike point starts so necessary as I walked everywhere 🙂 N/A
- Deiana (9/5): Superb stay - Spacious, super clean and very well maintained by the staff. Everyone is super helpful. Paul was amazing always being available.
The complimentary milk, coffee, tea and cookies are much appreciated.
The island has a lot of charcoal BBQs and Paul lent us some fire starters, matches and foil for us to be able to cook outdoors.
Good hot water showers.
Close to everything.
Better than in the pictures. Nothing
- Scott (9/5): -
- Janelle (8/5): -
- Caoimhe (10/5): -
- Heather (8/5): Lovely and relaxing - Self serve More repeaters on the WiFi
- Kim (7/5): Clean and good location - Studio rooms were large. Good location Ute parked in driveway of one of the main bike entries. Noisy stand fan in room. Laundry and clothe lines hard to access.
- Jillian (10/5): Spectacular, Awesome, Fantastic, Sensational, Terrific, Wonderful, Amazing. - I loved my stay in LHI. The room was at the end of the property, tucked away in a corner of the sub-tropical rainforest. Consequently, we enjoyed a gentle sea breeze at all times. The property owner and his brother-in-law, Paul were extremely helpful. The room offered two separate sleeping areas and cooking facilities plus a roomy bathroom. The room was excellently maintained. Incredibly clean and comfortable. Due to Covid, the restaurant/ cafe had closed down. It didn't really bother us as the Anchorage, The Crooked Post, The Golf Club, The Museum Cafe plus other smaller eateries welcomed us too.
- David (9/5): -
- Adrian (10/5): Lovely tropical Oasis close to Ned’s Beach - Lovely staff and service, spotlessly clean, well maintained and great value for money considering how expensive other places on the island are Not much
- robbie (7/5): superb - beachcomber is very close to Ned's beach and an easy walk to Joys shop. the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful with any enquiries and also pickups and drop offs. beachcomber has a lovely relaxed vibe. you will need a bike to get around the island, beachcomber do not have bikes so you will need to hire one, its very easy to organize once you get there.
- Susan (8/5): Comfortable stay in well-located, friendly lodging - Lodge owner picked us up at the airport and gave us a good orientation "tour" of this little island & facilities. Room was spacious, had outlets by the bedsides, a kitchenette, and a fan that we used when it got too warm. Shower was good. Some type of blackout curtain/shade on door windows would be good as those windows let in a lot of light, at night from porch lights and in the early morning.
We wished it was more soundproof as the very loud woodhens screaming at least 3 different times before the sun even came up was very disturbing to our sleep! At sunrise, the roosters begin as well.
Also, as there is a lot of sand on the island (obviously) that tracks into the floors, it would have been nice if housekeeping would sweep or vacuum floors each day because otherwise there is always sand on our barefeet as we walk around the room. Housekeeping never came to our room during our 3 day/3night stay.
One last little item: we signed up at the desk in the early afternoon for a ride to a restaurant for 5:00-5:30 and waited in the lobby during that time and no one ever came to the desk or lobby area. Eventually (5:45) we walked around and found the owner or driver who took us. Making arrangements for rides to restaurants was a bit confusing overall.
These are minor, but for such a big price for the room, it seems like these would be reasonable improvements.
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Jane (9/5): - Relaxed, good location, unpretentious
- Gayle (9/5): Friendly and helpful staff, excellent location and great facilities during our island stay - The location was ideal for access to Ned's beach and the local stores in town. As hikers it was not an issue walking the 1km into the main area on the island to access restaurants, grocery store and to book tours. The staff were friendly and willing to help with all our requests.
- Alexander (10/5): Perfect stay in paradise! - Perfect stay in paradise! Nothing!!
- Jean (10/5): The friendliness and the healthfulness of the staff would make me definitely rebook this place again plus the beds were - Paul and Ellen were so friendly and helpful, they went way out of the way to help me with my lost luggage and to offer advice about LHI and to even give a tour of the island upon arrival. Always had a smile on their faces and amazing attitudes. No view
- JANN (9/5): REALLY GOOD RELAXING and FUN HOLIDAY - We have travelled the world and BEACHCOMBER on Lord Howe Island is up there with the best. The location is good, the gardens are extraordinary, and the staff are even better. Paul picked us up from the airport and offered to help us get around. He returned us to the airport too. Our room was well appointed (no aircon)... but in February we did not need it. Housekeeping is second to none. What did we like ... EVERYTHING! We had to go out for all meals. BUT we had a toaster, frypan, microwave and kettle ... so we could cook for ourselves.
- Alejandra (10/5): - Paul was so nice and friendly, the lodge is lovely, the location is wonderful, the price (though high) is one of the most reasonables in the area, the housekeeping was very considerate. Thank you so much! Were I to ever visit the island, I would no doubt stay here again.
Alejandra
- Janet (8/5): It was a lovely retreat from the business of life - It was private and quiet. The rooms were spacious and a lovely sitting area outside the room. The staff were friendly and accommodating. It was up hill from the main town. Its walking or by bike
- Victoria (9/5): Charming and delightful. Everything I need and more. I would stay here again. lovely. - Very friendly staff. Pretty garden and charming building. The bedrooms were spacious and uncluttered. I would like more space to hang wet towels. The walls are very thin.
- Adam (8/5): - Shower temperature very difficult to control in room 3.
- Moana (10/5): Perfect place to enjoy all that LHI has to offer. - Gary and his team were very friendly, helpful and happy to accommodate your needs. Location is perfect and although it is only just a short bike ride to Ned's Beach, nothing is too far by bicycle you can't go wrong. Transfers to and from the airport, daily housekeeping and evening shuttles to dinner venues around the island are are real bonus. Beachcomber offers an abundance of information and history of the island with friendly and helpful staff. Great big room and very comfy bed, plenty of kitchen utensils and equipment to prepare meals with ease. Clean, tidy and very friendly. Wonderful stay - thank you!
- Alexandra (10/5): -
- Ferry (10/5): Beachcomber tropical paradise - To Dear Paul, Garry, Staff ,& family of Beachcomber. Thank you for accomodating us on our LHI holiday. From the moment we arrived we instantly felt relaxed & free to explore the island at our own leisure. The beautiful gardens, historical background of the lovely homestead and your local knowledge helped us make a truely memoable holiday. We will certainly be back.
Thank you from The Ferry family
- Fara (10/5): -
- Louise (8/5): Enjoyable and relaxing - Lovely helpful staff Need to add extra bed so had 2 separate beds
- Dellavalle (10/5): Highly recommend. Everything was perfect! - A fantastic property. So clean and comfortable. The staff are outstanding. A short climb up the hill which added to the fun on the bicycles. Nothing
- Elisa (9/5): Beautiful stay on Lord Howe - Nice & spacious apartment that seems to be somewhat renovated compared to the pictures. Very friendly staff, easy to get in touch with and helpful in e.g. providing drop offs for restaurants. It is located on top of a hill, however not so bad that it would stop me from coming back!
- Katharina (8/5): -
- Jo (9/5): Very relaxing. Staff were friendly and always ready to help with transport or advice. - Quiet, clean, immersed in a lush garden. Loved having the small but functional mini kitchen to prepare simple meals. Great proximity to Ned’s Beach and town centre. Water pressure was low (but probably unavoidable).
- nicki (10/5): Comfortable and lovely people.recommend - Modern and huge bathroom.
Very comfortable bed. Private.
- Claudia (8/5): - Sauber, einfach aber alles Wesentliche vorhanden. Freundliches Personal
- john (10/5): -
- Prachi (9/5): Delightful stay at Beechcomber - Spacious accommodation for our family of 4, comfortable beds and quiet. The staff were very friendly & helpful with local.knowledge and car transfers when needed. Perfect for us!
- Genevieve (10/5): Perfect accommodation options - Small family run property, very clean rooms, good water pressure, laundry facilities, quiet, I was staying solo and felt very comfortable. Les than 10 minutes walk to Ned’s Beach, 15 minutes to town or Museum. Also offers 1 two bedroom apartment fully self contained with Bbq and full cooking facilities and other accommodation options
- Madeleine (1/5): -
- Law (8/5): Beachcomber lodge - Comfortable accomodation.Relaxing ambience.
Paul is such a helpful host and was convenient that he would give us lifts to the airport and restaurants for dinner.
Large bathroom . Old rugs in dining room not necessary .
Blinds in main bathroom not working well.
Kitchen should be more well equipped.
Quilt cover although new was made of an uncomfortalke synthetic that felt like plastic.
It is uphill return from the town centre or Neds Beach and you need to be fit to walk or cycle back .
- Law (7/5): -
- Catherine (9/5): Lord Howe Island is worth the visit and I would return to Beachcomber lodge again - Self catered breakfast. Location okay…..except for the hill we needed to ride up on the bicycles A drying rack wasn’t available for hanging wet swimming clothes
- Thomas (8/5): -
- peter (10/5): Good well located accomodation - Cosy Up a hill
- Pheona (10/5): It was the perfect place for us. - I loved Beachcomber Lodge. It had everything we wanted, and more. Paul was fantastic and helped us with all of our questions and requests. There were beautiful gardens and birds came right up to our room. Had a lovely BBQ area which we used a lot for our group. Loved everything!
- Sue (10/5): We had a great time, we will be back! - Relaxed vibe, peaceful, beautiful gardens
- Vladimir (8/5): - The staff. Paul and Gary will take care of you.
- Yolanda (8/5): Paul and Gary couldn't have been more helpful and obliging. 10/10 - Location was very good ... only a short walk to Ned's Beach and central for buying food at both local shops. We did not mind the walks up either of the hills to Beachcomber. Bath towels could do with renewing ... felt like 80 grit sandpaper! Maybe upgrade lighting in rooms to LED for a brighter light.
- Carrie (8/5): Great location and facilities - Great location, great staff and a nice place to stay for a holiday. Great service from Paul who was very good at helping out with drop offs to restaurants and providing any guidance on the island activities. The lodge was pretty good, nothing major that we didn’t like.
- Elizabeth Flynn (7/5): -
- Keith (9/5): The perfect stay on a beautiful island. - Convenient location, comfortable, clean, and reasonably priced. Hotel manager and staff friendly and helpful.
- Tina (10/5): -
- Errol (10/5): Peaceful and relaxing stay! - Amazing stay with lovely host Gary and his right hand an Paul. Perched up the hill it was a tranquil and beautiful setting. We enjoyed having a big room with kitchen facilities and would be happy to stay here again in the future. Its hard work getting up the hill sometimes but it is worth it.
- Adrianne (8/5): Not what I expected - Very good pick-up from and drop off to airport including orientation tour of town on arrival For two of us very spacious but would be difficult for 4. One room had wardrobe, the other chest of drawers. Good information on what activities operating for the week I specifically upgraded to spend much more than intended because of the photos showing tub type chairs with armrests suitable for elder person who has difficulty getting up from soft couch but the couch provided had sloping back. The kitchen table was not like photos - instead 4 small tables made of slats pushed together with old food between slats - so sticky surface that our chocolate box stuck to the table and ripped bottom out of the box so I had to soak it off. One sink plug leaked, the other missing. Kitchen ware not suitable for cooking with non- stick saucepans provided - had to use fish slice for stirring and scratchy spoonful serving. No microwave containers suitable for heating food. Only a thin cover on single beds and no spare blankets. I know it is an out of the way Island but for the price paid and misleading photos it was not up to scratch.
- Shang (9/5): -
- Peter (10/5): We both had a wonderful stay and experience on this beautiful island with extremely helpful staff across the island. Som - Helpful and friendly service, close by to beaches and facilities Nothing really
- Stanley (8/5): Would stay there again - Great staff.
- Hector (9/5): -
- Stuart (8/5): -
- Kristen (10/5): -
- Myrtle (8/5): Comfortable clean accommodation in great location - The location was great, and we did a lot of lovely hikes from there. We were fairly close to Ned's Beach which is beautiful, and when we walked into the water, fish immediately surrounded us. This was a very cool experience. You can purchase fish pellets for $4 from local shops. Our accommodation was clean and comfortable. We had brought most of our food with us, so could cook, and that saved us quite a bit of money. We had heard it was expensive to eat out, and that proved true on the one night we bought dinner at The Anchorage. We found a good range of programs to watch on TV at night. Paul at Beachcomber looked after us very well. He picked us up and dropped us off at the airport and offered to drive us to restaurants too. However, we had brought head torches, so could easily walk home. The night sky was full of stars. We occasionally shopped at Joy's Shop which was well stocked with snacks and groceries. The freezer in the fridge kept things cold, but not frozen. There were no microwave dishes for cooking, but we were able to use the pots provided.
- Marea (9/5): Superb - Great friendly staff..Good location within walking distance to restaurants and supermarket.
Loved fresh towels each day and room serviced.
Free Wifi worked well. Dont like doonas...prefer blankets.
- Steve (8/5): Wonderful experience - Paul is the best host you could ask for! so helpful and friendly! Thanks again
- Sylvia (8/5): Very good -
- Philip (9/5): Great relaxing atmosphere -
- Shea (9/5): Superb -
- David (7/5): A great relaxing holiday in a peaceful setting - Paul was most accommodating, taking us to eateries for evening meals.
Nice and quiet, secluded
Airport pick-up and return included
Strong WiFi so able to retrieve emails, surf internet, contact family using Messenger (no telephone) No breakfast provided
- Richard (8/5): Uncomplicated, clean and well hosted - Old world charm
Clean
Quiet
Attentive staff Nothing
- Kinvara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (10/5): One of our best holidays at Beachcomber Lodge - Beachcomber Lodge was very comfortable and clean, great facilities, good bed, comfortable lounge chairs plus small dining table, outdoor seating area, BBQ, laundry. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Always willing to take us wherever we needed to go. One of our best holidays. Nothing
- Nancy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jkteach (7/5): Good -
- Gavin (10/5): - Very surprised when a staff / driver member welcome me at the airport which I did not expect room spacious and clean also very accommodating when my flight had been cancelled.
Big tip bring plenty of bread to feed the fish amazing experience in the lagoon just a short walk.
- Pamela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerardis (10/5): A very, very pleasant stay and we look forward to visiting again in 2026! - Clean and well appointed, in line with reasonable expectations for the price.
Paul is the main reason we will return there as a priority, service and kindness like that is rare. Have stayed at other lodges and it did not exist at those places. Sorry you don't serve any food at all, would have been nice to have breakfast or eat dinner in.
Also suggest you invest in some electric bikes for guests, say two/room and charge for them, we would have been pleased to rent them.
Bed was two tired singles pushed together, might want to look at that too.
- Gavin (8/5): A great island to visit a true paradise - The friendliness of the staff it was quite the bbq was a great addition. Having milk in fridge when we arrived. Cycling up the hill to get there! More condiments would have made cooking easier a little olive oil some herbs and spices
- Elizabeth (7/5): Good -
- Grace (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely located walking distance to restaurants, beach, etc. Love the airport pickup, Paul provided a quick drive around the places in the island.
Room is spacious, a full functioned kitchen is god send as I have special dietary requirements. Bed is comfortable, wifi is stable. I loved every moment there, and only if I could stay for more days!
What a piece of paradise! Nothing!
- Fiona (8/5): We had a wonderful time thank you and will return ! - The fact that this is a very historical lodge, small and family owned and operated is what we wanted. A varied age group and variety of nationalities staying made for good conversations in passing. Breakfast no longer available as the rooms are all self contained with small kitchenettes. Space was very roomy for the two of us and a nice tranquil location. Paul the Manager was very helpful and we loved the fact that he would drive guests in the evening to any pre-booked restaurant for dinner. Wonderful inclusion. The surrounding tropical gardens were lovely and the verandah was very attractive with colourful cushions and potted ferns outside the rooms.
- Adrianne (9/5): Superb -
- Jane (8/5): Very good - we stayed in "the Cottage" and were pleased to have a kitchen and to provide for ourselves apart from some meals we ate out. Our host Paul was extremely helpful and we appreciated his generous service nothing comes to mind
- Robyn (7/5): The most expensive holiday I've ever experienced. - The Manager Paul couldn't have been more helpful. He was the most overworked representative of The Beachcomber. He worked tirelessly all the time we were there. The Beachcomber resort is at the top of a very steep hill. When you are hiring a pushbike for the first time this hill was impossible to ride up. I wouldn't stay at Beachcomber again because of its location on Lord Howe Island.
- Lucy (9/5): A great place to stay to explore the island, with self-catering options, in a relaxing setting. - Beachcomber is a great place from which to access the town and hikes. Paul was so helpful in giving advice and lifts to anywhere we needed to go. There are good cooking facilities in the room to give you the option of saving some money, but also great restaurants a 10 min walk or quick bike ride away. The Lodge was very quiet in a beautiful setting, it felt like noone else was staying there.
- Wendy (8/5): Ideal for a peaceful stay. Easy walk to cafe area. Staff happy to drive the non walkers to cafes etc - Quiet peaceful location. Good size room. Generous with toiletries, coffee etc. free use of laundry.
Wifi available if needed and plenty of books.
Airport transfer and driver available. Rear of the property badly in need of maintenance,
- Tanya (10/5): Friendly and comfortable place to stay to explore Island life - The hosts at Beachcomber Lodge were welcoming and accomodating. We had a great stay on Lord Howe Island and had everything we needed for a fun and comfortable stay. We loved learning all about the local wildlife and the history of the Island from Paul.
- Michelle (8/5): A great mixture of relaxing and adventure on a tropical paradise - Location is great just a short walk to beach and the main part of the town.
Had everything you needed for a beach holiday the outdoor verandah was nice for chilling out on.
Friendly staff met us at airport and took us on a tour of island. Paul also happily dropped us off at restaurant for dinner and was accomodating for anything we needed. Fairly basic for the price but that is what you expect on Lord Howe Island as everything is quite expensive
- Luong (6/5): Pleasant - they forgot to pick me up at the airport
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Xinyi (10/5): It is a nice place to stay. Staffs are all very friendly and helpful. Paul is pretty nice and helped us a lot. -
- Tomasz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hannah (8/5): Very good -
- David (6/5): Great location in a perfect environment but well below what we expected given the high price. - There was no breakfast. The website indicated that it was bed and breakfast but we had to buy our own provisions elsewhere.
Our host was exceptional. Friendly, helpful, punctual, expert on what to do and where to eat. All round relaxed but on-the-ball. The property needs maintenance. The smoke alarm went off at 3am one night due to an expired battery. Not helpful or relaxing. Some attempts have been made to modernise but much more work needed.
- Verena (7/5): Good - Peaceful location.
Helpful and friendly staff.
- Scott (8/5): Very good -
- Jacqueline (8/5): A great place to rest and enjoy island 🏝️ life! - Peaceful location with private balcony. The resort manager, Paul is an absolute treasure. He gave us up to date information about everything open & available on Lord Howe. Always ready to drive us to dinner or drop us off at various sites. Thank you for a wonderful relaxing holiday. 🌸🌸🌸 Nothing!
- Keith (7/5): Good -
- William (8/5): Beautiful island , hotel nicely located - Room was very basic, but the location was very good. Nice setting. No air conditioning so the room could get hot but with open windows and fan room temperature was ok. Laundry area was a very nice plus. Paul was very nice and helpful. Basic room
- Yara (9/5): Great place to stay - It was a perfect location and the people were lovely and helpful!
