Well thought out facilities; mirror near to the desk (to put my make up on and do my hair), dressing gown, chocolate in the mugs, very clean room. lovely toiletries. Strong powerful shower. Good quality breakfast Location wise it was a little remote but you cant change the location and I had a training day near to your property. Poor WIFI facility.

- Alyn (7/5): One to return to. - The tavern is in a lovely village location. The staff were very polite and friendly. Our room was separate from the Inn and was quite comfortable and clean. The room temperature was just right. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, it was busy but had a good 'feel' to it. The food was good without being exceptional, the service was very good by young staff. We should certainly like to return. The hotel has quirky elements that may not appeal to all. For instance, I wonder why they provided Curly Wurly bars instead of biscuits on the complimentary tray. The large, comfortable double bed was situated too close to the window/radiator such that anyone of above average size would have trouble squeezing past to get into the bed. None of this spoiled the stay however, we very much enjoyed ourselves.

- David (10/5): A gem! Affordable, traditional hospitality. - It’s fairly rare these days to find a proper country pub serving traditional cask beers in a village location. The Black horse has an excellent bar with bar seating (rare again these days) a real fire, and a local clientele as well as the diners. The pub also has rooms and the room I stayed in was a gem, with excellent modern facilities, beautifully decorated with a superb shower bathroom. I enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the pub and both were excellent, served by cheerful staff and priced unbelievably reasonably. It was raining in the morning!

- Rachel (5/5): - Unfortunately the fire alarms were going off just after midnight and there was no staff or managers about. We were outside together with other guests waiting and waiting in the cold and wet. Eventually another guest and my husband managed to silence the alarm as there was no sign of anyone. It went off again in the morning this time a member of staff came and sorted the awful noise. When I told her it had gone off in the night she was unaware. It made us feel very unsafe so we decided not to stay the second night as we were shattered from out disturbed night and felt unsafe there. Such a pity as the property is beautiful but badly managed.

Our room was in a cottage a short walk from the main building - the room was modern and well equipped with a coffee maker, USB sockets and a large very comfortable four poster bed. - Kirkup (8/5): A warm welcome at the Black Horse - Very good quality food, good chefs, waiter's, bar staff and management. Room's clean and well equipped. The beds are not the most comfortable. We've stayed four times now.
- Patricia (10/5): One of the most cosy, comfortable and friendliest staff, plus outstanding food. - We have been here for food several times and never been disappointed. This time we decided to stay over while visiting family in nearby Northallerton. The food is always top class tasty, cooked to perfection and plenty of it. We had the Sunday lunch which was delicious. Breakfast the following morning had plenty of choice from continental(cereals, pastries etc) juices and a variety of cooked breakfasts. The staff are so friendly and polite, it is always busy when we have come here and the staff work extremely hard but they all have smiles on their faces. The room we stayed in was Kauto Star, it was so very cosy with a very country feel to it, spacious, the bed was super comfortable, a cosy seating area with coffee table. Tea coffee facilities, plenty of drawers and a wardrobe with dressing gowns and extra towels and bedding. A large parking area to the rear. I would highly recommend staying here or even just calling in for food, both food and stay was exceptional. Nothing
