Guest Reviews
- tonjacraig (4/5): We do not recommend staying her - We recently rented a room in the Villa Margarita at Jaguar Reef. We do not recommend staying there. The villa is in a great spot, with a pool, and directly on the beach. It should have been an amazing stay, but the building has significant deferred maintenance issues and a very lax cleaning crew.
When we arrived, the villa was dirty and poorly maintained. They didn’t have a key to the front door, the only key was to the rear sliding patio door, and it was broken. Maintenance had to be called to fix the door for us because it wouldn’t lock or shut properly.
The villa was very dirty when we arrived. The floor was gritty, the sheets had stains, and the kitchen area was very dirty. Coffee and grease on the back splash and the counters were sticky, and the refrigerator had a wad of someone’s hair on one of the shelves, yuck. The kitchen was poorly equipped and didn’t even have a spatula. We had to go into the village to buy a broom and basic cleaning supplies on our first day.
The first night when I was hanging my towel on the towel hook outside the shower, the towel hook and tile fell off the wall. I texted the front desk to let them know so we wouldn’t be charged for damaging the villa. They sent their maintenance man; he finished removing the broken tile and said that he would be back the following morning to complete the repair. He never returned, and the broken tile and towel hook was still sitting under the sink where he left it 5 days later when we checked out.
The most frustrating part of the stay was that Jaguar Reef misled about their promotions. Their website offered a “Summer Escape” promotion that promised a discount for stays over 4 nights and a US$100 resort credit. When we were told that the $100 resort credit wasn’t in our account, the local staff said there was nothing that they could do, we’d have to work that out with the reservation team. We emailed them, only to be told that they never combine offers and that we misunderstood the promotion. We pointed out the promotion was still on their website and clearly stated that we would receive BOTH the discount and resort credit. They refused until I asked them to escalate the matter to their supervisor, and included screenshots from their own website that showed the promotion included both the discount and resort credit.
It was not a good experience, and we do not recommend staying here.
- Courtney (10/5): - Coverall great stay with Jaguar Reef properties. Construction is going on next door but wonderful stay.
- jenmQ1737IJ (10/5): Exceptional staff and experience! - Our visit to Hopkins and Villa Margarita at Jaguar Reef was picture perfect! The grounds and the accommodations were gorgeous! But beyond that, the staff are exceptional at every level! They are incredibly helpful and attentive and friendly. They go out of their way to make sure every detail is taken care of! A few shout outs: Jianne, who checked us in and walked us to our room was delightful! She is a pro at her job! I had an issue with the key for my room - Edgar from Guest Services (also a phenomenal bartender!) and Roberto from Maintenance were on top of it immediately. They resolved the issue very quickly :) Another Roberto who cleaned our pool was wonderful! We had a great time chatting about Belize and life here in the Hopkins area. Daniel who has a MASSIVE job of raking the beach with his triple rake, was so joyful and friendly. Those are just a few of the incredible staff that work so hard to make this place an oasis for their guests!
- David (8/5): - Nice but maintenance is lacking.
- lcarro1 (10/5): Staff were great! - The staff for this Hotel were so friendly and very hard working always there to help. Jerry, Lukas, Greg, Malcolm, Captain Larry, Captain Alex and cousin Anthony thank you for all of your help, kindness and laughs. I apologize for the ones I may have forgotten to mention. The beach was beautiful and clean everyday due to staff making sure. Our room was beautiful, clean and huge, with a pool and ocean view.
Thank you for everything :)
- Timothy (8/5): - good locatiom
- Ewa (10/5): - This is so beautiful property . It was very relaxing and very private. The location is very convenient. The staff is very nice and helpful. It happened that we didn’t have good internet connection but management was very apologetic and issues credit for the stay. I will still return to this place . This is good quality place. I have to mention that there is a little construction next to the villa but the noise was there for a very short time. I still love the place.
- cidleyskip123 (10/5): Wonderful accommodation, and service - My stay was beautiful, especially loved the pool and quiet. My friend Salam made my stay special. Helping me and made me a coconut. Very kind person. The food was wonderful as well, service fantastic. And I had a fabulous room with a wonderful view of pool and ocean. Will be back for sure. One of my favourite things was making new friends and having a fire on the beach but you don’t seem too often, under a full moon beside a fire on the beach delightful.
- GoPlaces308778 (10/5): Impeccable service from Tessie Duran Tonaco - The stay was fantastic, room is spacious, and the customer service from the general manager, Tessie Duran Tonaco, was professional & unmatched. When you visit, please ask for Tessie to handle your concerns. She'll go above and beyond to make sure it is a pleasant experience with the most genuine smile and personality. I'm looking forward to returning bringing others with me.
- Kevin (10/5): - Staff is very friendly. Property is clean and close to beach and dining.
- Jeffrey (10/5): -
- ReggiM1 (10/5): 5 stars - Such a nice place for families, or singles. Captain Larry is a gem and is always smiling and if you are wanting to find something he will find someone who can help you. Will helped us with our excursions and he was great. I always wanted to try a sprouted coconut and Ambrocio was able to find me 2 of them! Leo our driver was great. and answered questions for us on our drive to the resort.
- 984harlandb (10/5): Very nice - We were surprised with a room that had a kitchen and living room as well as a good size bedroom and bathroom. We were in a second floor room, the deck has a nice view of the ocean framed by palm trees. That is semi-private, as there is a wood screen between you and the other room's deck. Our room had large wood carved walls in the living room, beautiful large eat-in fully equipped kitchen, and lovely tile everywhere. The staff was helpful and polite. The building is literally on the beach and you have a staircase from the room that goes down to the pool and the beach.
- rushbenson (8/5): An Amazing Place - We stayed at Villa Margarita for 5 days and aside from one rainy afternoon it was paradise. Our friends were staying at the Almond Beach, a mere 2 minute walk down the beach from us. We would often gather at the amazing Dock Bar or chill poolside at either the almond beach swim up bar or Villa Margaritas private pool. Both were lovely and well maintained. Larry and Bruno were both wonderful in providing fresh coconuts and delicious drinks respectively as well as adding to the friendly vibe of our trip here.
Emery was also a very comforting presence as the security advisor.
The one drawback was the new implementation of golf carts, there are still issues with several of the carts and I would say come prepared to ride a bike if you want to see the city in daytime.
Provided kayaks and Paddleboards were a blast. And be sure to check out the blue lights on the dock bar at night.
- GoPlaces48009213511 (10/5): 4 Nights at Villa Margarita with 2 under 2 - We loved our stay with Villa Margarita. We booked the entire second floor and had a great view of the pool and ocean. We have 2 little ones and Jaguar Reef accommodated our rooms with 2 cribs for them. Even though there is no phone and the Villa is a little secluded from the resort - Raquel from the Conceierge services was amazing and helped us with everything we needed via WhatsApp. Even after we left, we found out that we forgot 2 valuables in the room and she called the lodge we were staying with and organized with them how to get them back to us. We truly appreciate that and the service we received. We did get locked out of our rooms once due to not having the right key but they tried to fix that and also compensated us with a complimentary breakfast. Overall I really recommend staying here! It was amazing.
- X1866PLcandicec (8/5): Amazing room and views! - We loved our stay in our huge room with amazing views of the sea. The staff were all so friendly, helpful and professional. Dinner wasnt so great. We made a 7.30 dinner reservation for Saturday night. There was garifuna drummers and dancers playing so loudly in the restaurant that we couldn't eat. The vibration and noise was so loud that it went through your body, caused headaches, and certainly wasn't a dining atmosphere. There were few choices on the menu for vegetarian dining. We left and found another place to dine. Our room doesn't have a phone to contact the front desk ...our door lock broke and we couldn't open the balcony door to the beach. We called over our balcony to the security for help but nobody came. Later that day a maintenance man came and replaced the door knob with new key after we told another employee. Our air conditioner wasn't working and management generously gave us a complementary snorkling trip...very generous of them. As well they compliminated us with breakfast. The only tv is in the bedroom so when our company came to chill and watch some shows at the end of the day our only choice was to invite everyone into our bedroom! Of course we decided to pass on that idea! Lol Our friends had no tv or phone in their beach villa either. Even though we encountered a few glitches, the overall environment is beautiful.
- Daveen Joy (10/5): - Beautiful beach and views
- Samuel (10/5): - Ocean side location
- JakeH1273 (10/5): 3 day stay at Villa Margarita - The view from the 3rd floor is gorgeous . The rooms were more space than my family of 5 needed and it was sparkling clean. From the moment we got left the airport and met our driver/guide (Jonathan), we felt super welcomed. Shanelle was at the front desk when we checked in. She gave us the lay of the land and was very helpful, professional and friendly during our stay. Captain Larry graciously opened coconuts for us to drink on the beach and also made us feel very welcome. Chris and Shakira went above and beyond to help us plan our adventures during our stay. We did snorkeling, ziplining, river tubing and ATV to waterfall. Jamar, along with Captain Mike took us snorkeling. Jamar pointed out all the different corals and he educated us on all the different marine life we saw.
We ate breakfast at Jaguar Reef and the food was delicious. Charles, our server, was fantastic. My family loved the stuffed Jacks. Chef Rob’s was great for dinner as well. Definitely make a reservation though. We also ventured into Hopkins for awesome lunch at Ella’s. We borrowed bikes from the resort and stopped at the grocery store and gift shops along the way. The Dock Bar was a total blast too. Bartenders were great and we enjoyed swinging into the ocean from the rope swing. The day beds were pretty sweet too. We never saw a manatee but I heard from other guests that they spotted them. Belize is a beautiful place for vacation adventures and the people we met along the way just made it even better.
- Wes (10/5): - The staff, especially the guest services staff were exceptional. We will not hesitate to return next year to this property for a little R&R.
- DianneS356 (10/5): You'll love it here! - Fabulous villa right on the beach. Our family of 10 (5 couples) rented the whole villa, so each couple had their own private suite. Large suites with well-appointed bathrooms and kitchens. Quality construction and very clean. View of the water unobstructed. Quiet. Easy walk to 2 restaurants and cool bar at end of pier where people could jump from 2nd story into the water (and we saw a manatee swim by!) 1-2 mile walk into the village. Staff was friendly and attentive, though food service was slow... we experienced this throughout the country so it may be a cultural thing.
- Darrell (10/5): Best place in Hopkins - Best place to stay in Hopkins. Best beach.
- 729annmarier (10/5): Kind People, spacious room, private pool, great food - My 6 year old son and mother in law stayed at Villa Margarita in April 2021. We rented the whole second floor ( the villa is 3 floors and each floor can be divided into 1, 2 or 3 units depending on the need and the floor layout). The large pool and hot tub are just for the residents of the villa- which for our stay was just us and one other family!
The hotel restaurant is absolutely delicious but be aware it is currently very slow to get your food ( but it will be hot, delicious and perfect when it arrives). I think the slowness is all COVID staffing related. The few staff they have are multi-tasking and doing their best. One thing we were amazed by is the personal service of the staff. We interacted a lot with Odalis, Bruno, and Chanise. All were so helpful and wonderful. They give you their what's app number so you can communicate easily for any needs.
We did our tours with Get to Know Beliz and all were fabulous- especially the bioluminescence tour that I highly recommend. Too hard to describe but amazing if you get to go on a moonless night.
The surrounding village of Hopkins feels very safe. We rented a golf cart and traveled all around the dirt roads of the villages and to local restaurants. The little Italian restaurant by the hotel is fabulous as is Chef Rob's which is directly adjacent to the villa. I highly recommend the area for a tourist who wants the comfort of a resort, yet the ability to get out and meet locals and have of the beaten path experiences.
There is a FiWe supermarket store in Hopkins village you can stop at on your way in to get provisions.
Things to know- until COVID 19 kinks are worked out, food and room service may be slow, but they are doing their best.
Make sure to have WhatsApp downloaded on your phone and get contact info of Hotel staff to communicate that way
Surrounding area feels very safe and family friendly
- MikeBeat27 (10/5): We love Villa Margarita and Belize - Visited Belize in late Dec for a trip with family and friends. Villa Margarita exceeded expectations and what made it truly special was the staff at Jaguar Reef. Special thanks to Odalis, Chef Rahim, Denis, Chef Abel, Bruno and Jason for going above and beyond to make our stay amazing. Don’t forget to visit the Big Dock bar when you visit. Thank you all so much!!
- 882brid (10/5): Very nice and Quiet Beach Front Accommodations - Though the Jaguar Reef Resort and adjacent Villa Margarita are a short 5 minute drive from town, it is well worth the oasis you arrive at. The main lobby and restaurant offer tranquility and panoramic ocean views. All of the guest services staff and servers, most especially Shakira, helped make our stay wonderful. The Villa is beautiful and private. Feels so grand an luxurious when you walk in. The views are everything you would want in a Caribbean vacation. If you can't handle walking a few flights of stairs or walking down the beach for breakfast, this place isn't for you. If you want to peace and relaxation, stay here. Make sure to go up to the top of the Big Dock for a cocktail. The atmosphere can't be beat. Thank you to the staff for making our stay so wonderful. If we come back to Hopkins, it will be to see you all!
- 699hollyf (10/5): Villa Margarita is the life for me! - There was three of us sharing a spacious room. I recommend the 3rd floor(if you can do stairs) for best ocean view. You’ll walk up a winding staircase looks like a big tree. You walk into your room and have a large living room, bathroom and small kitchen as you walk in. The main bedroom has a massive bathroom that includes a jetted tub. Outside is a patio with beautiful ocean views. There is also another sitting area outside for jungle type views. You have a pool and hot tub to share with the other rooms, most of the time we had it to ourselves. The best part is the beach is just a couple steps away. Breakfast was included in our package and was great portions. Each day Walter made great drinks either at the pool bar or big dock. I felt the drinks were high quality compared to other resorts I’ve been to. Everyone honestly always took good care of us. If you want to see manatees goto the big doc bar, they sometimes like to hang around there. Also, snorkel south water reef. It’s a nice half day trip with lots to see and some of the clearest waters in Belize. One thing I’d recommend if being prepared for sand flys. Regular insect repellent does not work well for them. Lemongrass oil is supposed to deter them. It’s there’s a breeze they won’t bother you! Truly a great place for relaxation and adventure!
- junicej2019 (10/5): Feb 2019 Visit - This spot was wonderful! A friend and I had the whole second floor to ourselves-the space was clean and quiet and we had full access to all the amenities at the Jaguar Reef resort. The resort was clean, well maintained and the staff were the staff were very friendly and helpful. especially for meals with my friend's very strict food allergies. They took excellent care of us and I would definitely come back and/or recommend to anyone looking for a nice, quiet beach getaway.
- Wesley (10/5): - Although we had limited interaction with the cleaners, managers and desk staff we both think this property is the best property we had the privilege of staying at. Very grand and very large.
- 55Kim (10/5): A piece of paradise. - My husband and I visited Belize for the first time in January and can’t wait to return. The second floor room was beautiful and had a stunning view of the sea. Villa Margarita is a quiet little building in the resort - which has every amenity you could need available. The restaurant has nice food, albeit a bit on the pricey side. The wait staff and all resort staff are friendly and accommodating.
Hopkins is such a cool place to visit. We ate most meals off the property as we wanted to experience all kinds of food on our holiday. The food in the hotel beside Villa Margarita by chef Rob was probably some of the best we had all holiday. His steak is truly incredible - and I am from Alberta so I know steak. There were lots of eating places in Hopkins and the hotel zone this resort is at, so we did that. Only one was really awful - Peers Place - definitely don’t recommend that one.
We did a few excursions, although most were booked with an excursion company in town. My husband went reef fishing and caught a ton of fish. The chef at the main building cooked it up for us although we still had to pay for dinner (weird). Still, it was fun. We had 2 snorkel excursions through the downtown company (can’t remember the name but it was operated out of a sea-can downtown Hopkins). These excursions were incredible small group trips. The tour guides were awesome and the experience was the highlight of our holiday.
The one thing we were surprised about Belize is how expensive everything is. We wanted to pick up a bit of liquor and snacks for our room and were shocked at the cost of everything. Alcohol is at least as expensive as at home and snack food was ridiculously priced. A bag of potato chips worked out to be about 7 $ CAD. Restaurants are similarly priced to home as well, so bring lots of money!
All that being said, we fell in love with Belize. The people are lovely, the scenery is breathtaking, the vibe is relaxed. Villa Margarita and in fact all the Jaguar Beach resort is beautiful and service is perfect. We can’t wait to go back.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Lovely location however the bed is foam and very hard pillows. ond da cockroach in the bedroom Deck furniture was very nice compared to many places we have stayed
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A 2 hour wait to check in. Off an unbelievably bumpy dirt road 2 miles from Hopkins. Food was average.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Service was good. The food was excellent. The room was beautiful and spacious however the bugs tore me from to limb. The last couple of night I didn’t sleep in the bed because I was traumatized by all of the bites I got before.
- Vacation745917 (10/5): Beautiful resort - This is a beautiful resort! We loved our room and 3rd story view of the ocean. They are part of The Lodge at Jaguar Reef, so you get to enjoy all of the amenities of both resorts. We did a couple of tours, they were really nice but a bit expensive compared to other tour companies we used around Belize. We will definitely be returning to this resort!
- love2travellife (10/5): We came back! - What an absolute wonderful, beautiful, relaxing place to call home for your next vacation. This is the second year staying at Almond Beach for two days and then Villa Margarita for four days with my husband and friends. After leaving last year I could not stop sharing with friends and family what a wonderful trip we had and returning did not disappoint. From the minute we arrived at the resort it felt like we were home with some new additions; the pool bar was up and running and the pier bar was completed. A big thank you to Shakira you once again out did yourself with some of the greatest hospitality I have received at a resort. We were so happy to see Jason, Patrick, Ashley, Dennis and Captain Larry, whom we consider part of our family. We met so many welcoming nice people at the pool bar and Justin made sure the drinks were flowing. Every day the staff goes out of their way to make sure your stay is memorable. We arrived home a couple weeks ago and already I'm dreaming of heading back to Hopkins next year.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was very helpful in switching our room to another area upon request. They went above and beyond to be sure all was right. Very professional and friendly staff in all areas of the resort. HIGHLY RECOMMEND staying at any of the Jaguar Reef properties. Thank you especially to Justin who served us on the beach and Patrick whose room recommendation was perfect. Front ladies at the desk were also very welcoming and a pleasure to see checking in and out.
- mirna (10/5): Perfect gateway - The accommodation was beautiful, and super comfortable. The location is perfect with just a short walk to The Big Dock and the water fun.
- LauraSlade (10/5): - The staff: Jaime, Patrick, Ashley, Tracy, housekeeping, the chefs and bar tender were EXCEPTIONAL! Our room was like living in royalty! The service was the best we have ever encountered and we have been several places over the world.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked that the 6 unit building I was in was part of the main resort but our pool & hot top were private. Also, the staff was exceptionally pleasant & attentive.
- Carrie (4/5): Avoid! - Not comfortable, no lamps just ugly overhead. No headboards. Our door was too tricky with 3 locks that would not work. Twice we were trapped and could not get out. Complete fire/safety hazard. Tiny pool. Crowded spaces and no privacy. For the cost, this place was a total disappointment. We left Caye Caulker after this experience.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Calm Environment and Relaxed atmosphere was amazing
- Michelle (4/5): Don't be fooled by that glossy book cover - I was staying in 301 of the Villa Margarita section of the resort. Didn't know it was the literally the last section of this strip; furthest away from the main building. Was greeted by Patrick to show us the venue; was pretty quick about going through everything. Got to the room; wasn't what I was expecting - the initial photos I was going through had a mixture of Villa Margarita / Almond Beach / and Colonial after seeing what was actually there at the resort so careful on what you end up booking. The good parts is that the excursions were decent; highly recommend the Silk Caye Snorkeling and Sittee River Tour at Sunset. The food at the resort wasn't good and as a foodie here at back stateside and for a resort in Hopkins on our honeymoon we expected better. You are better off shucking a few more dollars and go to the local ones nearby like Chef Rob's that was next door or even Barracuda - only good part about the restaurant for some people is location/convenience. The room was decent comfy bed, frig, tv (american stations +), laundry service (good price compared to most), bathroom (well more on that; it's not good). Now...the bathroom at 301 Villa Margarita I've had problems since day 1 and after reflecting on the visit now the staff 150% knew there was problem before we checked in. The bathroom was plagued w/ either LOW to NO WATER PRESSURE our ENTIRE VISIT, went to the front desk; reply is working on it vs an apology BEWARE. Feel sorry for the next guest who checked in.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was a beautiful and comfortable suite! It has a private pool and beach right after the pool.
- DGC (8/5): - Villa Margarita is a modern and spacious residence. We immediately felt at home walking through the door. It is strategically located close to the main property Jaguar Reef Lodge and all its amenities, but also allows for options for food and recreation next door. The private pool is a nice touch. Villa Margarita affords its guest with all the amenities of a large resort with a boutique resort feel. We will definitely be visiting again soon.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, quietness, swim up bar, well kept beach front, room service, very well kept properties. We would love to thank the whole staff from front desk to house keeping. 2 people personally for their above & beyond services,
1. Captain Larry & 2. Dennis (coconut crew).
Great food at jaguar reef from breakfast to dinner, great drinks at bar as well.
- Kelsey (10/5): - Exceeded all of our expectations! We did not realize the special perks of the Villa Margarita were as grand as they were, with spectate pool (that we had mainly to ourselves) and a hot tub that was perfect in the evenings. Beach services (drinks, free tubes/kayaks/SUP were readily available. Cheap, authentic meal options were just a short walk away. We rented bikes from the adventure centre through the hotel two days, which was a nice way to explore town if you don’t mind a 20 minute bike to get there. Overall, amazing spot with great property and staff!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is an amazing house! It's actually nicer than the pictures. We were delighted at the huge room, unexpected kitchen and private pool. The villa is separate from the hotel, a few properties down and does not have a phone to call them, so if you generally need a lot of stuff you may not enjoy this property.
- Louise (10/5): Villa Margarita Hopkins Belize - Great place to stay. Got an amazing rate thru hotels.ca.The people in Hopkins are fantastic, from Shikira at the reception thru housekeeping, and activities. The meals and service staff were very accomadating. Location is in the center of a lot of activities restaurants and a beautiful 5 mile beach to walk. Something we didn't know when arriving was you need to go to the Jaguar Reef resort to check in. We intended to stay for 3 days, extended our stay for 10. Highly recommend!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful setting, spacious room and a awesome view
- Roxanne (10/5): Affordable location with very friendly staff! - We highly recommend the Villa Margarita - it's part of the Jaguar Reef Resort and you get all the benefits of that resort without the proximity to the potential party zones. This hotel has a private pool, AC, and is an overall excellent location. The resort staff (and all the Belizean locals, really) are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The excursions you can book through the Adventure Desk are affordable and very fun. We cannot recommend this place enough and will be back!
- Cindy (10/5): Very nice hotel, no communication to main location - Upon arrival they greet you with a great non alcoholic drink and give you a brief run down of the hotel. They are very nice and welcoming. The hotel is very nice and they help with excursions if needed. The only down side is there is no phone in the rooms. Our AC was down for an hour and we weren’t able to contact them unless you we walked over to reception desk, luckily it started working again. WiFi was also down the last night two nights we were there. The down side of this was we were never informed that this Villa is a part of the Jaguar lodge and upon arrival we had to ask another guest that was in the swimming pool how to go about checking in. You check in at the Jaguar lodge.
- Ken (10/5): Perfect luxury hotel in the beach with ocean views - This hotel has some of the best king sized beds we have ever slept in. The pillows and sheets are great too.
Clean open spaces, balcony, views, all amenities (like on site parking, spa, tour guides, scuba diving, lounges, and restaurants).
The staff are friendly, attentive, and amazing.
Only thing I could suggest is that block out curtains be installed so you can sleep until noon if you wished (the sun does get in).
- Caitlin (6/5): Nice hotel, troublesome stay.... - I booked this hotel as a special treat to myself for my birthday. The photos and description on expedia showed the room I chose as having a full kitchen. I was shocked when I was shown the room and it barely had a kitchenette, definitely nothing to cook with. That had been the selling point for me. When I told the attendent this, she told me all the rooms with kitchens were booked that night but they could check for the next night. My partner and I then had to have dinner at their restaurant instead of cooking dinner for ourselves which had been our plan. While the dinner was good, the food was the smallest portions we got anywhere we went during our stay in Belize and cost the most money. The drinks were subpar compared to what we had been getting at other locations, also. I have special dietary needs which I inquired about before booking, and was told they could accomodate. There was only one dish I could eat on all three menus (nothing on breakfast and the same pasta dish on lunch and dinner) and they gave us bread to start which I was not able to eat, and then toast which I couldn't eat with my meal, even after mentioning my dietary needs multiple times. During our meal, I spoke to the lady at the front desk about the room and she was able to move us which was a nice surprise but a little late. We wanted a couples massage and I messaged the spa but never got a response at all which was very disappointing. No compensation was offered of any kind for any of these mishaps.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic - Staying at Villa Margarita is almost like staying at your own private resort. Spacious, you have a fully fledged kitchen besides your bath- and bedroom.
Patio includes a pool and a hottub, the stairs down lead to the beach and the ocean.
Besides the restaurant at Jaguar Reef, you have other great restaurant options, one being Chef Rob just next door - fantastic!
- Sylvia (10/5): Beautiful (large) rooms - living room and bedroom - Beautiful balcony overlooking the ocean. Great rooms. Only thing to note if someone is older, is there is no elevator but very easy walk to second floor. If that's a challenge ask for the ground floor room. Very quiet toward the end of a dirt road. Connected to Jaguar Reef hotel so there is a restaurant there. Restaurant was okay but not great. We ate out at various other places most o the time.
Fabulous swim up bar.
- Ted (8/5): Villa Margarita, Hopkins, Belize - Beautiful place! I will go back!
- steve (10/5): Top of the line in all respects. - Beautiful setting- on the beach. Way above average room- responsive staff. All good.
- blonditraveler (4/5): beach bugs with unending seaweed-no staff - Don't do it. Just don't do it. No staff on site. Not well maintained. Promises not kept. Seaweed seaweed seaweed. Captain and Dennis were the redeeming factors for this very expensive stay in Hopkins. I do not recommend this site or this town unless your under 25 the restaurant was extremely expensive but food was average. I picked this site based on the reviews and the reviews were way wrong.
- Debra & Keith (10/5): Room was close to pool and beach loved the view - We had a great time food was great staff was very helpful
- Don (10/5): Fantastic location on the beach - My wife and I just stayed at Villa Margarita for 3 days and it was fantastic! There were six beachfront units in the property and we stayed in one on the lower level. The unit was spacious, well appointed, and comfortable. At Villa Margarita, it is like having your own private spot on the beach with a pool right outside your door. If you want a change of pace, in a 30-second walk you can swim in the ocean. What a great great place to stay. In case we want to come back again, we looked at rooms at Jaguar Reef (the sister property where you eat meals). We preferred Villa Margarita because of the privacy and the larger room. When you stay at Villa Margarita you have full access to the Jaguar Reef resort which has a welcoming lobby and a very attractive restaurant on the beach. The staff were excellent and Hopkins offered a great beach, many restaurants, and easy access to the cayes for snorkeling or scuba.
- Chuck (8/5): Hopkins and villa Margarita - Our first room lacked the privacy the wife and I wanted for our anniversary travel to Belize. The hotel staff was more than kind and moved us to a more secluded room on the third floor. The room was amazing with incredible views of the Hopkins beach. Breakfast was very good. We ate lunch mostly with our booked tours and had dinner in town.
- Ryan (8/5): Nice option in Hopkins, Belize. - Pros - clean rooms, friendly staff, off the beaten path, and safe.
Cons - loud construction next door from sunrise to after sunset. Only one on site restaurant that charges a 10% resort fee in addition to the 12.5% tourism tax on all meals and beverages - making a very rural area in Belize expensive for foreigners.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing - This place was amazing. The staff was great. I so recommend.
- Mike (8/5): - Everything was wonderful, but make sure that you buy your alcohol at the duty free shops at the airport.
Snorkeling off the beach wasn't bad, but the water was always very cloudy and there wasn't much to see unless you go the the barrier reef. Although, we did see a lot of starfish in the sea grass and we came within 10 feet of a VERY large grouper that was bigger than a full grown man. It was kind of scary even though I was fairly sure that I didn't need to be scared. We stared for a few moments and then we swam away, but it was one of the coolest highlights of our trip. We were told it was very rare to see one this big so close to shore.
- couple (10/5): Beautiful 1BR apt w huge terrace, beach view - We had a wonderul time. The adventure desk was extremely helpful in arranging a private fishing trip and snorkeling trip. Accomodations are top-notch and staff is great!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel right on the beach - Absolutely loved this place. We walked out from our patio to the beach and they have a private pool.
