Guest Reviews
- Ulises (4/5): Puede mejorar.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Do not stay unless you want a babysitter - It was like staying with your mom, many rules and no late entries. Staff is amazing but they have to always open and close it's so annoying. Never again
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We booked a room for blue coral and ended up getting put in perlas which is there sister Condos across the street. They had no elevator and we were on the third floor and pool on 5th . Big inconvenience
- Dennismulvey (10/5): - Like elevator nice room safe clean great staff close to all restaurants and beach pool on roof great for relaxing
- Lynda (8/5): - 24 hour secured entrance to the complex. 4 beautiful pools. Large clean rooms. Great price. Near the quiet side of the walking mall. Great resataurants nearby.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - There were no sheets on one of the beds. Lots of surfaces felt sticky. The pools were cloudy and unusable. Very disappointing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I like the room was very clean, the staf was very frendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): - EL HORARIO DEL USO DE LA PISCINA LO DEBEN DE AMPLIAR POR LO MENOS HASTA LAS 10 PM.
- Leah (10/5): - We love the location and the price of this hotel. There are many pools and it is very clean. The staff is friendly and you cannot go wrong for the price. It is a short walk to the beach and is in a quieter part of the city.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesomeness with the staff.. They are the best...great vibe
- Verified traveler (10/5): - location, very quiet and close to locals stores, nice walkable locations, stafff are super friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stay here many times great staff im single traveler roomy three pools and close to 5th ave great kitchen in apt
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great staff elevator big plus close to 5th ave room very clean
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The beach is within a 5-minute walk. The best taqueria we’ve experienced in our lives is three blocks away. Mini mart, convenience store, fresh fruit store and all the vendors of 5th are accessible in minutes. The staff was kind and helpful as they could be (our Spanish isn’t very good yet) Very safe neighborhood! We had the best time!! Life in Playa is good!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The best part about this hotel are the rooftop pols. The rooms are mediocre for a hotel in a developing country and we weren’t even supplied with washcloths. The advertisement for “ocean view” is false. The hotel is on 50-52streets which run East/west and therefore the balconies all face the north or south...the beach is to the east. Also, the property advertises multilingual staff, which is untrue. I’m English speaking and no staff could communicate with me in English. Luckily I speak enough Spanish.
- Jayne (4/5): Misleading pictures - This was not a good stay for us....Firstly the picture of the front building is misleading...we were actually in the buildings next door !!! So be mindful of that ...not half as aesthetically pleasing ...room was only ok after we were put in a box room without windows and I asked to be moved. Breakfast was awful..no milk only creamer !! And french toast from a packet ...only saving grace this was for one night. There is also a lot of building noise from early o clock....no fire extinguisher anywhere although the bracket was there ....hand rail on stairs was held on with a zip tie !!! Cracked , raised unsafe floor tiles also....a poor stay although the front desk girl Natalie was pleasant.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Hotel did not have elevator - I had to climb 5 floors to my “suite” - couldn’t sleep due to noise made by windows and glass doors - will never stay here again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Good: Staff very friendly and helpful. Good location if you like to party but not ideal for young families.
Bad: facilities are outdated and not some functioning. Internet is very bad. Poor RF and low bandwidth.
Location is beside construction sites which start with noise at 7am. Showers are smelly. Water is super hard, they need a softener.
Swimming pools are well within proximity to live wires. Rooftop pool railing is too low and not safe.
Noise level with construction and blaring music is unreal.
- Jan (2/5): Stay away - Terrible breakfast and the pool to dirty to swim in, do not stay here
- Helen (8/5): Great location, friendly staff :-) - The condo is at the quiet northern end of Playa Del Carmen, at the end of 5th Avenue. Everything is walkable with local supermarkets, the nicer beach and places to eat all within 10-15 minutes walk. The staff who work at the hotel are all great and helpful. Tanya is super friendly :-) The rooms are a bit dated but are kept clean. The common areas are adequate but were suffering from noise and some mess from local building sites when we were there. It didn't stop us enjoying our stay though and we would return to this place again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location near by everything level 5 pool was great the bathroom toilet seat was very cheap the
Sofa bed wasn't the good old shower good terrible construction site near starts work 8 00 am.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is a perfect location to the beach, not far from the main area and far enough to quietly sleep at night.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was ok . But the first night we found a lot of ants on the bed and the floor
- Barak (6/5): Far away from the centro - Far away from anything, every time you want to get out, you must take a taxi
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great budget condo/hotel - Really enjoyed our stay. The Coral Blue is one part of four condo's. They share pools and booking staff, concierge, ect.
The staff was very friendly and the front desk staff was helpful. Our room was cleaned everyday, linens were nice and towels plentiful. If you needed anything you just need to ask. There is always someone at the front desk 24hrs a day. Security at night.
The condo is meters off of 5th Avenue which is the main street for all the tourist shops, restaurants and dive/tour excursions. It is quiet at the location of the condo and about 2.5 - 3 Km to the ferry to Cozumel. It is an easy walk and the street is a pedestrian walkway so easy going. Restaurants start a block away.
The roof top pools have a great view of Playa del Carmen as well as the ocean. It is a 10 minute walk to the beach.
- Lyzbeth (10/5): Clean and unexpensive place to stay - The room was very clean and spacious.
The price was very reasonable and it's located close to the 5th Ave.
Overall we had a nice stay :)
- James (10/5): Awesome - Awesome
- Tony & Cory (4/5): 80%complete room; missing: the comfort portion - The location is ok--just off 5thAve, but several blocks north of the business area.
The check-in staff was very pleasant and efficient. As in most Mexican Hotels, the A/C was not turned on and, therefore the room initially had an overwhelming stale/musty smell. The room was clean but incomplete: *no bars or hooks for towels to hang on. *no chairs (or table). *no lamps (only three harsh led recessed fixtures). *no light above bathroom sink (wires hanging out of wall..?..). *too dark to shave (sink no stopper). *had to "steal" toilet paper from lobby bathroom 2 of 6 days. *no bankets on beds or in drawers. *white floor tile, white flat canvas window covers, white walls, white sheets on beds, cold white lighting... ...zero decor on walls... ...minimalist?::: :::COLD. *staff responded to check-in day guest review on Expedia by promising in Expedia generated email to "promptly remedy problems," but they did nothing. *24" tv too small for room.
- Fiona (10/5): Wonderful hotel in quiet resort - Lovely small hotel , on the beach in a quiet family orientated area.
Excellent facilities and very good chef.
Can't fault it in any way.
- Kimberly (4/5): Not even in the same building as the front desk - The front desk staff were nice, and check out with the security guard went smoothly. Stairs stairs soooo many stairs! Not for someone with mobility issues for sure, and the railings for the stairs are very sketchy and not safe, that being said the open wires and wiring that is on top of the building where the pool is, definitely not safe. No phone to call front desk when the super loud party was going on for the few nights we were there. And the smell of the room, smelled like the toilet pucks that you hang in the toilet bowl to keep cleaning in between cleanings....found both of them and threw them out! so strong you could taste it.
Housekeeping staff came in and cleaned (we aren't messy so they only had the bed to make) but they turned off the air conditioner so when we got back it was sweltering. Made sure to tell them not to clean our room the next day and the place was nice and cool when we got back from Tulum.
This was the first time my husband has been to Playa and it was only for a couple days so this place did the job it needed to....bed was actually comfortable which was appreciated.
- Tom (6/5): Needs attention to detail. - Small rooms. Curtains let in too much light. LED lights didn't provide good lighting. No towel rack to hang anything. Faucet in B room came loose. No B room light installed, hole in the wall. Maid service didn't take care of room until asked. Made us put on wristbands to get in hotel. No cups for morning coffee.
- Rommy (8/5): Very clean hotel and the staff is super friendly - Rooms were very clean and the staff is very helpful. Hotel is great for the price. Pool is clean and walking distance to 5th ave near all the shops. If you don't plan on spending all day in the room then this hotel is well worth the stay, would recommend and stay again.
- Shoeboot (8/5): Home base in PDC - Clean hotel. Gone most of the days exploring the area. No noise at night and every morning awoke by the rooster crowing next door. Hell he crowed all day lol. The roof top patio was great at sunset. We had a drink there every night before we went out for dinner. The hotel was at the end of fifth ave, so we got lots of exercise everyday and I didn't gain one pound either!
If you're looking for some excitement, take the ferry to Cozumel island and rent some gas scooters. So much fun and the views were breathtaking! Beaches are much nicer and less people. My favourite restaurant was at the end of 38 called Milos. It's Greek. Try the grilled octopus! Fantastic!
If we're looking to stay all day at the hotel, this may not be the one for you. It's not a resort but a clean room to sleep in and secure your belongings while you explore town and beyond. And YES there is construction all around you. The area is being developed...lots of hammering!
I hope this helps. We had read a couple bad reviews, so we expected the worse but was very happy for the price.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Stay away - Hotel is horrible. Do not believe to pictures that posted on expedia. It is different world. Room is small, bad is very small too. Room smells badly. Kitchen equipment is good, but there no reliable stove, so you can forget about cooking. Only one good thing that I can mention, that is personal. They were frendly and did there best to help us.
would NOT Recommend!!!
- Loren (2/5): - Checked out after one night, major renovations going on, small room, no closet, no towel holders, no windows, no view, the only thing going for it was cheap
- nicole (8/5): Quiet place off 5th Ave, with kitchenette - If you like having a quiet place off the busy 5th Ave this is the place, having a large fridge, sink, hot plate, pans and plates is nice if you like to cook for yourself or store food. Check in was pleasant and fast, and staff was very helpful with any questions we had.
- Gary (8/5): Nice hotel at the end of 5th. - Very clean and quiet hotel. The staff were extremely hard working and helpful. The front desk people could speak english. There are not many amenities but this reflects in the price. The single rooms are tiny and should be avoided.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very comfortable room, close to beach - My husband and I really enjoyed our 6 day stay at this hotel, the room was very comfortable for jut the two of us, the air conditioner worked perfectly and having hot water in the shower was fantastic. The hotel was also walking distance to the beach and 5th avenue where there is a lot to do! The price to the hotel was very affordable also! I would definitely love to stay here again , oh just have one complaint , that they have two pools in the hotel, one with a nice roof top view but I was very disappointed that the water to the pools was very very cold, we couldn't even go in it st all! I was looking forward to it when booking the room there , maybe that's something they can work on it !
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok hotel - This hotel is just ok. It does the job if you're only looking to stay a night. Seemed relatively clean and the pools were nice. However, most of the furniture in the "studio" was falling apart. The pictures are also much different then the reality. They could also do better in regards to safety/locking the rooms.
- Nigel (6/5): Clean and convenient but unfinished - As other reviews have said it's pretty close to being a very nice place but there are so many things that are unfinished - there's exposed wiring all over the place and half-finished things - it wouldn't take much to sort it out but doesn't seem to rate a care for the management! Also no bath mat or hand towels supplied - just a small thing but makes a big difference!
- Ana (6/5): - The hotel is just Ok, because the location is good, close to the beach and walking distance to shops and restaurants. The hotel has friendly staff but the rooms and hotel installations need to be improved.
- Latino-Australi (2/5): Worse hotel ever - I had the worse experience at this hotel. I arrived at 6am in the morning due to midnight flight from D.F. I got to the hotel and the rude security guard received me at the door. I ask him if there was an opportunity to check in early since I contacted the hotel earlier and thy said yes. He said your check in is at 3pm and you will have to come back. I told him it was too early and I needed to leave my luggage - immediately he said no and told me to wait outside the hotel intil the receptionist come at 7 am , in th darkness and in an area I was not familiar with I got out and then he asked me again to go and stay around the swimming pool but not in the reception until the ladies from the reception came.
I got a room in the afternoon, the hotel is being renovated and the noise after 7 am it's horrible . The bed in my room was missing some parts , so the mattress at night can even touch the ground.
The staff knows that that hotel is in very bad conditions and the service is bad. If you can stay in another hotel closer to the centre will be better, avos this hotel- maybe until the renovations finish.
Spanish is my first language and am fluent with English and they speak very little English.
- David B (8/5): excellent service - The service staff was excellent. Would have liked stove top, coffee maker as other rooms like mine had.
- michelle (2/5): - Horrible hotel. No promised breakfast as stated on hotelscom
No ocean view room
Left 1yeaer of contacts lenses on shelf n when I called to track
Them down they lied to me.
Manager yelled at me.
- brian (4/5): quiet side of town, not really near anything - First off, booked this hotel, was given a room in one of the other hotels. there is like 5 hotels in this area, all owned by the same people. Got put into Les Perlas building, no secure wifi, had to walk to lobby for secure line. No hot water in the room except for in the shower. There was only one electric burner, they call a cooktop, didnt get hot enough to cook anything on. no english TV channels. Had to walk all the way around the block because the key wouldnt work in the other building to get to the lobby, had to come out of this building walk across the street to the next building to were the lobby is. The ground floor pool had so much chemical in it, was getting a rash and red sores on skin. The roof top pool, hardly got cleaned, and the filter system was never turned on at all. The handle on the room door wasnt very secure held on with one screw. Rented 2 rooms, the other room, when it rained, the wall inside leaked badly, had to put towels on floor to stop the water from puddling on the floor. The AC condensor froze up one night, and dripped water on the bed. The patio screen door, the screen was all ripped so no sense in using it. The rooms were clean, the beds were good, actually had a comfy mattress. Really liked the full sized fridge, made for grocery shopping better.
- JAMES (4/5): Dont be fooled. - Only bad place I stayed in Mexico. First, we didn't stay at Coral Blue they walked us to place across street and while free parking was advertised we never were given access. The balcony had only one chair - not exactly comfortable for a couple. Construction all around area made it impossible to sleep passed 7 am. The room was nothing like it was advertised.
- Micke (10/5): clean by yourself. - Great place. My first time and would stay thete again
- Verified traveler (2/5): Did not stay one night. - First room was so filthy and had broken sink, blinds, patio covered in construction debris, so we were switched to new room. It had nearly all the same issues. No ocean view as promised and place was in a sketchy neighborhood at night. Do not stay here. We did not stay even 1 hour before leaving and booking another place for 14 days. Didn't even bother to try to get my money back as I knew it would not have worked. You couldn't pay me to stay in this place. We stay in boutique hotels without all the amenities on most trips, but this was beyond lacking. The only positive is that the gentleman helping us was kind.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Loved the pools! - We had a wonderful time. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful. I would recommend this hotel. It was clean, quiet and close to the beach and restaurants. We enjoyed the rooftop pool. Some days we would have it all to ourselves.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect kondo to relax & 5Min away from 5th Avenue - Perfect kondo to relax if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a fancy hotel near 5the Avenue. 5 Min walk to the start of 5the Avenue. Reception spoke English and very helpful.Didnt clean our room everyday had to ask. Other than that it was good
- Erica (8/5): - Not on the best block. But only about a 10min walk down 5th to the beginning of all the shops/restaurants.
- Daisy (8/5): It was a good place to stay. - I went to Playa for my honeymoon. I went during spring break for all the college students. I can say if you are looking for a place quite enough this is the place. The beach is maybe a 15 minute walk. The hotel provides free beach chairs. We tried to go twice but there was a lot of seaweed. That was a bummer. We decided to go to Tulum the beach that was beautiful!
The hotel is a block away from 5th avenue. However, you have to walk a couple of blocks to find shops and dining. The hotel is more on a quieter side of the 5th you will not hear noise from people or clubs.
This hotel is better if you just want to sleep for the night. They don't have a lot to do there. However, they do have a pool in the main level which is a decent size. There is another one on the rooftop. It's rather small. There wouldn't be a lot of room for many people. The view isn't that great either. All you have around are other people's homes and trees. I could only see the ocean if I was at the rooftop.
The room itself is very clean. Since this is a condo hotel there isn't housekeeping everyday. However, you can put the notice on the door if you want them to clean everyday. The bed is comfortable enough. The bathroom is a good size. In the mini kitchen was very useful for us since we stayed 9 nights. It has all the basics. There is a very small portable stove (only for one pot/pan). They provided cable and wifi in room. If you plan outside activities and just want somewhere to sleep this is it!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pay for the cheaper room - The hotel is listed under 3 names on Hotels.ca. Each name is a condo/ hotel building, owned by the hotel. They are all prices at different rates. I paid the more expensive price because it said, I would have an ocean view, premium bedding, and pool access. When I arrived, I was told the hotel was full and I would be staying in the other building. The view from my room was for a vacant lot that was full of garbage. I was told all the rooms are the same. My question was, if all the rooms are the same, why are they prices differently. I didn't get an answer.
I knew this might happen. My cousin had the same problem. She stayed there two weeks before me.
That said, the hotel itself was very nice. The pool was clean. The rooms were clean. They had a lot of wifi connections, but they didn't work very well.
I visit Playa Del Carmen, a few times a year. I would stay here again, but next time just pay for the cheaper room.
- Bradley (10/5): Very nice, friendly staff. - Away from the hustle and bustle but still close to all the fun and shopping. I like to walk and walked to the end of the strip daily. If walking is not your thing you might want to be closer to the action of the main strip. It was nice experiencing a little bit of the real playa Del Carmen and the tourist section. Don't let not being in the middle of the tourist district scare you, it was still very safe and everyone I talked to was very friendly and willing to help with any questions I had. People in this area are very hospitable.
- Stephanie (8/5): Nice stay - Nice stay. It's about half an hour walk from the other end of fifth but its enjoyable. Comfortable rooms. Didn't enjoy the 7 am construction right next door every day though
- Melissa (8/5): Great beachside hotel - This is a great hotel right on the beach boulevard in Progreso. We had an amazing view from our deck and through our floor-to-ceiling windows. It was an excellent location for walking to food, souvenir shopping, and hanging out at the beach. There was also free parking right by it for beach goers that we had no problem using for the few days we were there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clearly they are working to improve it - Location is OK, staff is great.
This hotel has nice rooms and they are working to make it a better place.
They were very helpful and our rooms had a full kitchen.
The pool is also very nice, if you got the time
- Verified traveler (10/5): Vacation - It is nice condo, just what we need for week, close to beach and close to 5th st, we love it and will be back again!
- Jaira (10/5): - Great place to stay at a very affordable price. Just a short walk to 5th ave for food, shops and beach.
- Verified traveler (8/5): quiet - out of the way in a good way
- Blanka (10/5): very nice, roof pool, loved it - I loved the hotel, especially the roof pool and the kitchen with huge frige and even a smoothie mixer! Pity I stayed only one night, for sure next time I do more. The receptionist was fantastic, helped with all questions. The room was perfect for us as parents with a child. Thumb up...walking distance to beach 5minutes.....
- Ally (6/5): - Nice hotel for the price. Close to beach. Internet connection terrible though.
- Steven (8/5): Chilling Out in Playa del Carmen - All good, the bedroom needs an ironing board and maybe a bedside light.
- Tasi (8/5): affordable cute accomodations - I loved almost everything about this hotel and its location slightly "off the beaten path" away from the hustle and bustle of 5th avenue. I was there for business and preferred to not be in the town center commotion and was hugely impressed by the facilities; a balcony with an ocean view and a rooftop pool with a gorgeous panoramic city+sea view. There were not a lot of power outlets in the room and no phone to call reception for anything so that was the only drawback. The reception was hard to reach most of the stay and they aren't there at night, so you're on your own if you need anything urgently or at night (they keep a small staff). It's pretty much like an apartment complex with occasional on-site management [limited English speakers] and not geared to tourists like some of the central hotels.
- Dagmar (10/5): Clean modern great value break - The staff were most helpful and would do anything to make your stay more enjoyable. It was spotless. The roof top terrace area had wonderful views and was great for a swim and relaxing. They are currently installing a second large pool on the ground floor and a new reception.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very Nice Condo, but far far away - The Condo services was great, and the room is very good for the price, the problem is the distance from everything, it's around 20 min walk from the center, it's not very nice to walk there at night because the streets leading to the hotel doesn't have lights, so it's dark, the wifi didn't work at all and they didn't fix it.
rather than that, it was a good room.
- Jack (6/5): Good hotel with POTENTIAL to improve. - I stayed in this hotel just for one night in transit to another island. It is located at the 'end' of the 5th/Quinta avenida commercial district. It is about 3 blocks away to the end of the restaurants and stores.
It is clean, with a very nice "small" pool on the roof.
First off, I was very much "put off" by the young, 20-something Argentinian "girl" who received us (checked us in). We are a 40-ish-old couple from San Diego, and she kept referring to us "chicos". Or as the Argentinians say... "shi-cos". I think "senores" would have been more appropriate. But having visited Recoleta in the past, I understand how Portenos have "that air" - more like a 'fart' to me. She was not mean or rude, but I find her "too fresh" and condescending.
- Verified traveler (4/5): far from the center - Not good for 3 people.
AC not good.
Really far from the center
- Debbie (6/5): Good value hotel - This hotel is located at the far end of 5th avenue. There is a bit of a walk to get to the beach, so it's hard if you are carrying any bags/ice chests. The beaches are usually great but this time were full of seaweed, so didn't spend much time there. We had construction going on under our room the whole time we were there. The small kitchen/dining area was nice with full size fridge, micro and one burner cook top. There were no towel racks and only a sheet on the bed, but we were able to get a blanket from the maids. A/C worked great. Nice, clean room for the price.
- Pam (8/5): very good experience - very comfortable, nice pool, all the staff were very nice and the location is away from the noisy part of Playa which I prefer
- alex (8/5): Nice place to stay ! - The staff is very friendly and the place are en very good condition
Very comfortable rooms and exelent cleaning service!!
But it is a little far to the center of the city! And the wifi is not good in some places!
100% recommended !!
- jack (10/5): Hotel Staff - The staff were friendly, accommodating, and helpful. would defiantly stay here again.
