Guest Reviews
- Carol (7/5): We just needed a place to sleep and to clean up for our planned activities in the area. - I liked the firm bed. The floor in the bathroom was dirty and there were hairs all over the floor--hairs that didn't come from us.
- Kim (5/5): - No breakfast served. Light on the wall by the TV didn't work.ice box covered in ice needs to defrosted. Phone didn't work to call the front desk. Base board heater in the bathroom is disgusting. Needs to be replaced. Read above statement. Put it in the wrong box.
- Guest (6/5): Other nearby facilities were filled, this lower-tier motel had room and was adequate for the cost. - Hadn’t been aware that there was any kind of breakfast. Location was fine—close to the highway. The apparent all-night drug dealing in the next room was disturbing. Office staff was not very welcoming when we arrived, nor friendly when we left.

- Andrew (10/5): It was what I expected. Older style Motel. Rooms available and easy to book. - Good location with an old school vibe. Not sure if the sheets were clean. Found some hair in my bed. The air unit on the wall smelled like it was burning if set above 72 degrees with fan on. Fan in the bathroom did not work.
- Guest (1/5): Did not stay. Opened the door and took ne look around and turned the key in - Nothing People loitering outside the rooms. Doors were all banged up. Doorknob was loose. Furniture was cheap and the room smelled. We did not stay. Asked for my money back and did not get it. Sent email to booking .com no response. Very unpleasant experience.
- Hicks (4/5): Front desk clerk was very unwelcoming. Rooms were very dirty. Would definitely choose other location - Breakfast was advertised to begin at a certain time, and doors to breakfast area was not unlocked until nearly an hour later. Rooms were dirty. Mattresses were very old and worn out. Cable for TV was broken. Upkeep around the buildings was poorly maintained. Front desk didn't provide wifi password, even though they advertised free wifi.
- Guest (3/5): - Location The room was really cold. Took over 12 hours for the heat to kick in. There was a smell to the room. It was noisy. You could hear everything going on around.

- Guest (2/5): Never again. - The front desk person was pleasant. The room was supposed to have two beds, but ended up with a single Full bed instead. While I think it was technically clean, everything was so worn out, shabby, and stained that it was hard to look past. Half-used shampoo bottles were left on the vanity, and the AC had an absolutely funky smell.
- Guest (2/5): Not great - Cost No hot water, loud neighbors, difficult to sleep
- Tammy (3/5): Least favorite lakes stay. - It was last minute and cheap. But I guess you get what you pay for. Bathroom was not clean. Room was suffocatingly hot and smelled horribly of smoke. If it would not have been so late, we would have left. As it was, we were only there about 7 hours. Yuck!
- Guest (9/5): Afforable to enjoy a weekend in DL - Afforable, Comfy room clean & good beds! Liked the refrig
- Anonymous (6/5): Adequate - Property run down
- Adkins (4/5): Disappointing - Location and value of price for booking short notice Tv remote didn't work, electrical was sketchy, bathroom light had to be pushed in to make the connection/break connection to turn off. Floor was dirty and cobwebs in the corners. The bed frame squeaked and squealed every move you made.
- Molly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Sherri (1/5): Disgusting, the owners should be ashamed of their properties condition - Nothing It was run down and very dirty
- Anonymous (1/5): Our stay was terrible. We checked out after the first night because it was so awful. We think we should receive a refu - Nothing to speak of. Thin mattresses, no box springs, dented lamp shade, stained shower stall, no shelf in the shower, rusty heat ducts, door jam jimmied so the dead bolt could not be used, to name a few things.
- Cheri (1/5): I would not recommend this to anyone. Ick. I should have asked for a refund. - There wasn’t anything that I liked about this property or stay. The room was disgustingly dirty. Cobwebs all over, dirty curtains I didn’t want to touch to pull shut, yellow stained comforter, dirty walls and door. I wasn’t even sure if the sheets were clean. Tub drain was plugged. Remote didn’t work for the TV. I left as soon as I possibly could. It was the last room I could find in all of Detroit Lakes. Room 122. If it’s the only room left, don’t take it. It was the worst hotel/motel I’ve ever stayed in. I should have slept in my car.

- Anonymous (4/5): I won't be back - The bed was comfortable. The room had a refrigerator. Plenty of towels. The floor felt like it had sand or dirt on it. We chose not to walk barefoot after that. The shower curtain was too small for the shower. When stepping out of the shower, the floor was wet. Definitely a safety issue. The shower had a broken shower handle. The edges were sharp. Another safety concern. The room, where breakfast was served, had no light. I was told the light doesn't work. Is somebody coming to fix it? I'll never know. I won't be back.
- Lisa (6/5): Pleasant - Good value Was advertised as a queen bed but it's a full
- Raul (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Katy (5/5): It was totally fine for one night for the price in that area. - The location was great! The price was good. They advertise continental breakfast but there was none.
- Catherine (1/5): I'd rather sleep in a tent - Not a thing Mattress was like sleeping on the ground. It was like stepping into the 1950's . You could barely turn around in the bathroom, the lamps fell apart when you touched them . Thank goodness there wasn't any carpeting, the floors were decent. We did not feel safe at all. There was garbage overflowing outside the rooms and scattered in the walkway.
- Emma (8/5): Will be staying again. - Gets the job done for a lower cost. Has everything you need for a short stay in DL Bathroom could have been cleaner. Saw some spiders/webs
- Raina (1/5): Bad - The floors look like that weren’t swept in weeks and there was blood on the blanket
- Anonymous (6/5): Decent room. Quiet after neighbors settled down after their argument, early. Room was clean - There was no breakfast The brochure in the room said breakfast but it was all locked up.
- White (5/5): Passable -
- Pion (7/5): fair but toilet was hard to use it was too small for a big person and to low - room was clean and comfortable not enough outlets for computer and wood chair almost collapsed when I tried sitting on it toilet was so small i had a hard time standing it was so short and small around
- Green (5/5): Passable - Well, t.v. Remote was for a different tv, so then the buttons on the TV were fubared from im sure others going WTF! Wifi was meh, I got 5g down there anyway...
- Brent (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christian (7/5): Good -
- Kauth (8/5): Very good - TV remote did not work
- Tony (4/5): Disappointing - It was cheap. Smokers had been in the room previously. Half the lights didn't work. The place was decrepit. No where near the sort of facility normally on Booking.com
- Derek (7/5): Good - Very comfy pillows and great air-conditioning Tv wouldn't turn on
- Adonna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Miranda (6/5): Pleasant - Price Rooms wasn't clean or neat
- Adonna (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (1/5): Everything I needed was in the room but the clerk double charged my credit card. - Even though during check-in I showed them my Booking.com receipt which already paid for the room, they demanded my credit card for check-in and then double charged me for the room. I called to inquire if this was a mistake, but they were too busy to refund their mistake. Either a mistake or because some people do not check their credit card charges, I would not recommend staying here and being double charged. Double charged my credit card. - Paul (9/5): Late notice check in was very accommodating. - Good location. Room temp was a bit challenging to regulate.
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Eric (5/5): Passable -
- Kisuk (1/5): It need renovation/upgrade - Location Facility is outdated condition, such as cracked floor. bathroom is in bad condition. Took a very long time to generate warm water. Uncomfortable bed. Noise from train and refrigerator. Cold room; No thermostat to increase heat.
I would not recommend.
- Haugen (7/5): Good -
- Timothy (7/5): Good -
- Lennon (3/5): Poor - Location was nice. Coffee maker didn't work, the beds were uncomfortable, when I called before we came to asks if there was a mini fridge & microwave, she didn't understand me, or I couldn't understand her.And lightning was not so good.
- Beverly (2/5): na - n/a Everything. It was cold and dark when we arrived. couldn't find light switches to see. The room didn't have good electrical connections. The bathroom was not pleasant either. the toilet ran all night and I was to cold to get out of bed to jingle the handle. The tub area was not inviting (I wouldn't even use it.) I felt like it was just worst location in the complex. I always thought buying online meant a discount of the price not getting the worst room for the money. Very disappointed. Was there for funeral. The water at the sink was warm and wouldn't cool down so I used warm to rinse after brushing my teeth. I have to admit the microwave, tv, and frig did work.
- Jill (8/5): It was what I expected. - There was no breakfast. I don't like these coffeemakers that only make one cup. Overall it was fine, about what I expected - very basic.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (3/5): Poor -
- Elton (3/5): Poor - Location Curtains didn't close, no heat( they did provide a plug in heater), not very clean, and, it stunk.
- Carlson (10/5): Exceptional - It's a simple room and that's great has all the basic features
- Jerry (8/5): Very good -
- Gould (7/5): Just what we needed, would stay again - Close to all the things we needed, easy to check in, comfortable sleep Dated interiors, thin walls (could hear everyone else), could use a refresh in the bathroom
- Tom (7/5): Good -
- Lisa (4/5): Disappointing - Private location That the room was cold and didnt know how to heat it up!
- Melissa (7/5): needs updating badly - Convenient, easy to find and inexpensive, sort of clean. Placed us way in the back row of buildings, needs remodeling badly but closer units were clearly updated and renovated. Very old. All the lights in our room were not working, tried contacting the front office to change light bulbs but found no one. Booked a queen bed and the bed was clearly a full not a queen. Paint in shower stall peeling.
- Rhonda (6/5): Pleasant -
- Krystalhudek (6/5): Pleasant - The hotel is located really close to the main parts of town. So you're not far away from the amenities at all. For the price it wasn't bad. Its an older motel. Seems like some of the rooms are rented out like apartments or extended stay rooms. Out of no fault of their own, the day that we were traveling up for our stay they were hit with a tornado or a straight line winds, damaging a lot of the property and the main office.
Due to this, there were no additional towels for our stay or continental breakfast.
She called me to let me know what had happened before I got there which I appreciated.
- Helen (4/5): Disappointing - Lynn from the office was very nice. Immediately upon entering, you see the beds are cots, ALL the floors were dirty and sticky. We had to keep our shoes on unless we were in bed. The bathroom is so outdated and dirty we didn't shower till we got home....we stayed 2 nights and had an 8 hr drive there and back... shower would have been nice. Especially since we spent a whole day in the hot sun at a music festival. There was a weather occurrence right before we arrived, so continental breakfast wasn't available, and we were told to use towels sparingly. A.C. unit sounds like there are army tanks cruising through the room but worked at least. Overall, it needs an entire update. We also didn't receive even an offer of a discount regarding the inability to provide advertised services. Run down building inside and out, which is probably why it was the only building in the entire town whose roof blew off and 3 trees came down from wind.
- Dawn (3/5): Poor - The lady at the front desk was nice There was a rotten apple behind the bathroom door. missing top sheet on the bed. Chair was broken. toilet overflowed.
- Dale (5/5): Interesting - Well at about 3:00 in the morning the neighbors decided to start playing loud music and put on a sex show, I thought it was funny but my wife didn't appreciate it, it's funny the desk won't send a phone call to the room between 11 to 7 , but the neighbors can go at it at 3 am, lol
- Brown (7/5): Good -
- Casey (6/5): Pleasant - Everything but depressed that we couldn't get a late check out being are drive was long . And we didn't have to leave tell 1130 and they would give us the extra hour
- Emma (9/5): Superb - Liked how the room was set up and looked clean. Good price in a good location Wish there was a mat to help not get so much sand in the room
- Scott (10/5): Budget Host Adventure - The staff was friendly, informative and helpful. The room was spacious & clean. The restaurants close by were excellent.
- Kevin (5/5): Not the best place to stay. - Breakfast was ok. Location was fine. No one at desk for check in, had to go find her. Room needs some cleaning, paint, updating. Mattress was terrible. Advertised mini- golf and was told it was taken down a long time ago.
- Cheryl (9/5): Superb - Included breakfast, proximity to downtown, quiet in back group of rooms, 3-bed room for a family with a child.
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional - Clean place
- Scott (10/5): A pleasant stay at Budget Host, Detroit Lakes, MN - The staff was friendly, efficient & informative. The ceiling vent in the bathroom appeared to have never been cleaned. I used the hotel towel to clean it thoroughly. My assumption is, if my bathroom fan vent was clogged and full of dirty lint, the other accomodations also have the same issue. Kindly pass on this information to the hotel staff. I am sure they will appreciate being made aware of this issue.
- Yassin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Juni (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anna (8/5): Cabin like feel, cozy - If you want modern and pristine this is not the place for you. It is comfortable and fairly clean but definitely could use a lot of TLC. Finding someone to check you in is always a hassle but at least had someone that spoke english well and was easy to understand this time. Took 20 minutes to get a hold of someone to get checked in. Hair in the shower but otherwise room was clean.
- Krista (8/5): Very good -
- Miller (6/5): It was what I expected - Outlets don’t work
- Michael (1/5): Bad - Room was ok. They said they collect at the motel not Bookings.com so they made me pay again. So now I have to try to get my money back from Bookings.com.
It is a nightmare! Bookings.com should never have had them on their options for motels. The hotel claims now they don't work with Bookings.com. Unbelievable!
