Guest Reviews
- Sarah (10/5): Excellent - Hotel was brilliant for the price. It was very clean with air con working. Staff were very friendly and also allowed us to store bags after checking out. Was very central!
- aung (8/5): - Clean and quiet area. Stuffs are so nice and helpful.
- DLauraR (8/5): Nice hotel to stayed. - 3 nights stayed in this hotel. Room is larger than I thought before.Clean but please prepare toothbrush and paste.Should replace towels. Staff are friendly and helpful even thought we had trouble in language.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- joannamT9974BC (8/5): Good hotel in great location - My husband and I spent a week at this hotel in March 2019. The building is quite old and the rooms are basic, but they are clean and relatively spacious. The staff at the reception are very helpful. They do not have laundry facilities on-site and pass the laundry to be done by an external service provider (additional charges per item of clothing). The location is excellent - 20-min walk to the Grand Palace area and Chinatown, with a ferry terminal not too far, close to the Golden Mount. Very close to grocery stores and various cafes for breakfast, etc.
- J (8/5): - Hotel is OK, Nothing to get excited about. Price/quality ratio could be beter. Staf is excellent
- 209terrar (8/5): 😊 Wonderful staff they try to help eventhough english was a bit difficult. - The girl that works nights is very reliable and help out where she can. We even got a gift for our 1 month stay from the manager she was very nice. Location was at yimes difficult for tuk tuk drivers ensure you have hotel card or use Google maps. Walking distance to bobae tower, chinatown and klong Tom. Definitely will visit them again 😊
- A5976UKgeorgeh (8/5): Fantastic to ease you into Bangkok - We stayed in the Sun Mali hotel between the 4th-7th January. For first time backpackers in Thailand we thought this was a lovely place to stay in Bangkok if you don't mind walking to the min attractions.
It was about half an hour walk to the Grand palace and from there you can go to Wat Pho and jump on the ferry for 4 baht to get over the river to see wat Arun.
Walking in the opposite direction will take you to the main shopping plazas, food courts and Jim Thompson's house which was about a 40 minute walk.
The hotel offer a FREE (yes free) shuttle service to the main attractions such as: Khao San road, grand palace, chatuchak market on weekends and more, we found the driver to be extremely friendly and a cautious driver amongst the crazy traffic.
The rooms were very quiet and comfortable, the shower was okay, I would say it was an average shower in Thailand, at least it had a shower curtain which most hostels/hotels in thialand do not offer but the pressure wasn't great.
The staff were always friendly and went out of their way to help you.
Great start to our trip..
- ELM1479 (8/5): Modern hotel in walking distance of main attractions - We spent 3 nights here from the 4th of January-7th of January. We arrived around 21:00 following a long flight into Bangkok. We were pleasantly greeted upon arrival at reception and quickly checked into our room (do note that there is a 90TBH charge for paying by credit card and also a required 500TBH CASH deposit from all guests for the room that is returned upon check out by returning the receipt and key)
Our room was clean and had all facilities we required (Fridge/kettle/tea and coffee making facilities/toiletries/private bathroom) The shower was lacking in power and heat at times but this isn't uncommon across Thailand we have found or at least in the hotels/hostels we have stayed in. Room was cleaned every day and towels changed.
Hotel is 30 minutes walking to Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Khao San Road and Siam sqaure.
The staff were all friendly and the hotel also provide a free daily shuttle service (yes FREE) to many of Bangkoks main attractions.
Daily
09:00 - The Grand Palace
10:00 - Wat Arun
19:00 - Chinatown
20:00 - Khao San Road
Sat and Sun only
12:00 - Chatuchak weekend market
The driver is so nice and we used the service 2 times! Saving researching transport/routes and time and money. Awesome offer!!
On our last day we were heading to Thonburi station for the train to Kanchanaburi and the hotel helped us get a taxi which was kind.
Free tea/coffee/biscuits in restaurant. Also complimentary bottles of water replenished daily in room.
Great, friendly and clean hotel in centralised Bangkok!
- soumavag (10/5): Good hotel in a quiet neighbourhood in bangkok - People who are looking to stay little further from hustle and bustle of the city can choose this place. Rooms are way bigger than the other options you get in the same price range. If you can get a hang of the local bus in Bangkok, there is a stop bang opposite to the hotel. You can use the viabus app to learn about the bus routes and to live track the position of the bus you intend to take.
During my future stay I will again consider staying here.
- mohammedr950 (8/5): Affordable hotel in Old Town Area of Bangkok - The hotel is tugged away from the main road, through a passage entrance (which can be a little difficult to notice the first time). Once you enter the hotel, it gives a very pleasant feeling, as the environment is very peaceful and calm. The rooms are quite basic but for the price, I would say they are good. In-room entertainment includes cabled tv channels and free hi-speed wi-fi (which I felt was the best part of the stay). The staff at the hotel are very friendly, cooperative and down to earth people. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in the old town area of bangkok and explore the surrounding places.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hotel, bed very hard. Location ok, approximately 30min walk from grand palace, Khao San road or Hua Lamphong railway station
- Kate (6/5): Friendly staff and god price - Friendly staff in reception. Location is very convenient and the price is very good.
However the bed was very hard. I normally like the hard Thai beds but this was a little too stiff for my liking.
- jx13b (8/5): Would recommend! - Honestly you have ugly neighborhoods for views surrounding you but is a safe area. Everything in hotel functional, good breakfast and very cheap! Stayed several nights and every single member of the staff was more than willing to go out of their way to help us with things with a smile. Service was absolutely 5 star. Within long walking distance or short taxi of Khao San road. Only downside is the view and bed was a bit hard, but I’m sure I’ll stay there again.
- Joshua (4/5): Not Great - Stayed in December 2017. Reception staff were unhelpful with several basic requests we had, and seemed to not like their job. Rooms are fine but nothing special. Beds rock hard. A decent walk from city centre (30 mins).
- nikbaturin (10/5): Good hotel in walk distance to historical part - We booked the hotel in walk distance to historical part of Bangkok. And our stay exceeded our expectation. Very friendly staff helped us a lot with our luggage. Quiet and safety location. 8 minutes walk to Golden Mount and 20 minutes to the Palace.
- Nikolay (10/5): Good location, good accommodation, friendly staff. - Very friendly staff always wants to help. Good location in walk distance to most historical places of Bangkok, very close to Gold Mount.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Siisti hotelli, kioski, muutama ruokapaikka ym lähellä muuten normi Bangkok "lähiötä".
- Joy (8/5): Pengene værd - Bestemt pengene værd. Centralt i Bangkok.
- NickyN322 (8/5): Good and save price - Big room, good location easy to go centrum (MBK, Siam, Pahurat, Wat prakeaw) have wifi, car park very confortable. I sayn4 night /eary check in and late check out so pay 200b. It very chap. It very good price and good place
- Suzanne (6/5): Nice hotel in the center of the city. - 20 minutes walk to China town, 1 minute walk to 7-11.
Hotel staff is great. However, we had trouble with the bed foam, which was too firm. I could not sleep in teo nights, waking up with my body all sore and my back hurt. Without this bed, they would have got my five stars!
- hideki (8/5): staff - they are very kind.
dinner,transport ...
detail knowledg they have.
- 738jackl (8/5): Great hotel for exploring on a budge - New Suanmali Hotel is an awesome little 3* budget hotel just outside the city centre. Room prices start at about £19 a night, and the staff there were absolutely lovely. The breakfast often wasn't anything special, and the restaurant seemed to have funny opening times, quite often being unmanned, but we managed to find a few places nearby to grab something to eat.
As previously mentioned, the staff were great. They were always incredibly helpful with suggestions of things to do, providing directions, and when we left they gave us a gift for staying with them for so long.
Despite being out of the city centre, New Suanmali was a great base to explore from. It's situated really close to a main road, making it really easy to hail a taxi, has plenty of convenience stores nearby, and is only a few minutes walk away from the Temple of the Golden Mount.
The rooms were very large, and the aircon was amazing! The cleaning service was always good, never had any problems there and the cleaning staff were always very friendly. There was a slight bit of damp in our room, however this wasn't very noticeable and thankfully didn't smell or cause us any problems.
The two complimentary bottles of water every day was a nice touch, and the extra water in the mini bar was very cheap.
As with any hotel, make sure you pick up a business card to show to taxi drivers, saves getting taken to the wrong place!
Overall, had a lovely stay, definitely made by the staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quite area and very affordable accommodation - The hotel is not in a very busy area so very peaceful especially at night. Traveling from hotel is easy as it is on a main road and you can catch all kind of transport there. Staff was very helpful. Rooms are clean and all facilities were excellent. No rating for food as I only eat selective food and hardly had anything there.
- Andreas Kronborg (8/5): Good location and staff - The room was nice and big, huge bed. The only problem is that the mattress is hard as a rock. The shower also has no curtain, and the shower head needed to be changed.
The staff was very nice and helpful. They showed us all the nearby sights and where to get food.
In regards to food the hotel was situated rather far from a lot of eating places. But all within a walking distance of 15-20 minutes.
No tuk tuks in the area! :)
Good for the major sights, if you don't mind walking a bit, but far away from the trains.
- Angelas02 (8/5): Perfect for budget travelers - The hotel is clean and the rooms are big with a mini bar, and kettle for making tea and coffee. There's also AC and a tv. The location is near Khao San Road and the royal palace. There are also 7 11s everywhere as well as great, cheap street food. The staff was efficient and courteous and altho the bed was super hard, I slept well. Perfect place to visit Bangkok.
- JeizE1 (8/5): Nice stay - We stayed there 3 nights...the room were clean...with ac and tv...good shower..2 towels per person...free water..coffee,tea
Nice location near to 2 bus stops or you can also walk to many attractions...smiling staff
- Russell (6/5): - The hotel was very clean. The food they served was good. I liked the bottles of water in the fridge. The bed was a bit to hard for my taste. It was nice to be in walking distance of the temples.
- Elin (10/5): Good location - Very good location. Money worth the cleanness and location, very fresh rooms.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Super - Great location
- Verified traveler (4/5): One night basic - Very basic. Area Ian dead. Big cockroach on bed.
- MissBnrrd (6/5): Good Budget Hotel but - If you're planning a couple of days in Bangkok where the majority of the time you're out touringn the city this hotel has a good location and is quite central. 25 minutes walk from Khao San Road, 40 minutes from MBK and Grand Palace. If you need taxis reception team arr quite helpful and they will book it for you. They were really helpful.
I expected a bit more from the room l, but as i said you pay the location in this case.
Mattress dead hard and noisy air conditioning! I didn't want to report this as i was there for a few nights and the people who work there could speak a bit of english and didn't want to bother them, but I think it could be better if they can fix this as i believe is a pattern after reading other similar reviews.
- Nik Adli Muzaini (8/5): Easy Access to Worachak area - Nice area easy access to many of the parts shops and also with friendly staffs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Très bon rapport qualité/prix - La chambre était spacieuse et très propre. Simple mais très fonctionnelle. Le personnel était très aimable. Un bémol, la lieterie était très ferme.
- AsharJamil (10/5): Good hotel and great location - Stayed here for 3 nights and found it to be an excellent place to stay in Bangkok. This hotel was very cheap as compared to other hotels in Bangkok. This hotel gives you an ideal location in Bangkok with a very affordable rate. The staff was very cooperative and helpful. Moreover, the room was small but new and clean. Breakfast was average.
The location suited us well as it was close to where we had to visit for shopping purposes, which is very important as traffic in Bangkok is a mess. Furthermore, the staff was kind enough to arrange a taxi after check out.
In a nutshell, this is a good hotel to stay in Bangkok, charges were reasonable and the room & service was excellent.
- craig (10/5): fantastic hotel, the staff were amazing - I really enjoyed my stay here.
The room was great, all the facilities you'd need, comfortable, cool.
the hotel was also great.
The only thing better than the room was the staff....they were so helpful and always had a smile on their face.....
there is a guy who works in the car park, everytime I walked through he greeted me with a smile and hello, followed by more often than not holding the door for me.
Also the receptionist I asked if there was a quick cheap way from the hotel to Don muang airport, she conferred with her colleague and he took me one side and went through some instructions and directions with me for 15 mins to make sure I knew how to get there conveniently.
- Airion (10/5): Close to attractions - Thumbs up, clean room, friendly staffs, good services
- McKinley (8/5): Economical - Fern was great
- Keven (8/5): Great for the price - The location was close to some of the attractions 10 - 15 minutes walking. The staff was very friendly and helpful
- kaew (8/5): Great location, close to cultural places - Very helpfull staffs that taking good care of customers. Always welcoming every time come back in. Prompt services. Very clean.
- 303katharinap (6/5): Great attractions - In Bangkok visited the dinner and show called Siam Niramitr. A must, it is fantastic! We toured the city on our own using "Nancy Chandlers map of Bangkok". This is an other must to carry with you, you will never get lost. The secret: landmarks. We organized our own tour guide through TNK Travel Vietnam, which saves you nights, since you can see more in a day. Long-tailed boat tour on Chao River from Nonthaburi around Ko Kret was very enlightening and fun. But boat ride to visit floating market in Damnoen Saduak was a tourist trap and not worth it. Ride on Death Railway Train from Kanchanaburi to Hell Fire Pass was nice but the best part was to walk back after arrival, on the railway to the viaduct. Tham Thanked National Park - we hiked 2hours through jungle from lower to upper cave, it is non-touristy and you need a guide, but you will be amazed and proud of yourself.
- 463annabelg (6/5): Okay - Overall our experience at the hotel was average.
The staff were very friendly and helpful ordering us taxis whenever we asked. The cleaning ladies were a delight always saying hello and having a chat and they did a lovely job! The room was a great size for us, and had a fantastic air con and the daily complimentary water was much appreciated. The condition of the bathroom was okay. Overall the room was clean and simple.
However, the mattress was pretty much felt like a sheet on a block of concrete and the wall that separates the bed from the shower had damp growing down the side of it, not pleasant to sleep next too. The food at the hotel was average but very cheap. However I would strongly advise against getting anything from their small breakfast menu! The "American breakfast" consisted of half cooked fried eggs, plastic tasting toast, frankfurter sausages, and chicken nuggets that were barely even deforested let alone cooked! The peas in the Thai fried rice were also very often left still hard from being frozen.
Additionally, no taxi driver had heard of the hotel so definitely pick up one of the handy business cards from the reception desk that has the address in Thai.
The hotel is however in a very central location but not near the sky train as it is in the old part of the city, so visiting places like Siam became difficult at times.
Ultimately it was an average hotel with a below average price tag. But be warned! You can't walk anywhere people just keep approaching you trying to scam you so get taxis to places like the grand palace and China Town.
- Kimberly (8/5): Good stay for two - Pleasant stay for 3D2N; staffs are very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
- Alessandro (10/5): - Sono stati tutti simpaticissimi e pronti in ogni richiesta
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really nice hotel whit helpfull staff. Location is good, taxi to mbk takes only 10min.
- 54kcg (10/5): Vacation - After surprising my wife with her very first trip to Bangkok a few months ago, I decided to take her away from all her stresses and bring her back here. Not only has it been a great pleasure to back at the best keep secret in hospitality that Bangkok has to offer but the staff and management went out of their way to surprise us with a little anniversary token.... It was unexpected and the cake was delicious. We will never suggest any other place but New Suanmali.... We can only be honest with you with our experience which will make us come back to Bangkok each time.
- Andreja (6/5): Hotel in downtown - Hotel is in good location and near to city attractions. Staff is very helpful and polite.
Two of us stayed with a small 2 years kid. Rooms are spartan but clean.
If you need a hotel that is good as base for your visit in Bangkok and you don`t need luxury it is recommended.
- elysecarpenter2015 (4/5): Interesting! - We stayed here for 2 nights after arriving in Bangkok from a long haul flight. No taxi driver knew where it was which wasn't a good start.
On arrival none of the night staff spoke much English.
The room was small, with a window and great air con.
The bed was very hard, didn't feel like a mattress at all.
Bathroom was in average condition.
Was in an ok location, but very difficult to find.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Remote location but worth $30USD - Hotel is very remotely located so it's an 80 baht tuk tuk ride to anywhere which adds up if you want to go out for dinner or any kind of activity. The hotel staff were very friendly!
Hotel lobby smells like moth balls.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Location; Accommodating Staff! - A very pleasant stay with nice accommodating staff. When I wanted to work undisturbed in my room, they supplied me with extra towels and water...and easily satisfied my modified diet for the breakfast. The hotel is close to Golden Mountain and Wat Sat hat and the Great Swing
- Martina (10/5): great location - Lovely staff
Very central location. Everything is within walking distance.
Clean rooms.
- George (10/5): Great Stay - The New Suanmali Hotel is a great hotel with fantastic staff - they were so helpful. The only downside to this hotel is its location. There isn't very much around it, so taxis are needed to get anywhere. You need to take a business card from reception with the address in Thai to make it easier getting a taxi.
- KC (10/5): 3 star hotel that treats you like a 5 star - My wife and I can not say how much we enjoyed this hotel!!
The entire staff was outstanding. The hotel is a what I will call Bangkok's best kept secret.
They do charge 500baht for the key deposit. but you get that back after checking out. The do have breakfast and it is as good as the rest of the hotel. For 200baht it fills you up.
The hotel is constantly clean, I mean everything is, even the hallways going to your room. The staff works hard and it shows in how much they care about the hotel quality.
If you go to this hotel make sure you have the phone number, most taxi's have no idea where it is. Also if you have maps on your phone it helps also.
Last thing, the beds are typical Asian beds. Low to the ground and hard. But if you ask the staff, they will assist you in making it softer. This is a great hotel to stay at.
- 819ivanat (10/5): Nice hotel and great staff - I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and really enjoyed it! It is really worth the price. The room was clean and pretty big. Had a great TV & fridge. The staff in the hotel is great, they were really helpful and friendly, spoke really good english. We took extra breakfast for 100 BAHT, which was also really great! Only suggestion from me - pillow could be a bit better :) The area where the hotel is not really busy & full of restaurants, but its a short taxi ride from most of the important places in Bangkok. Highly recommend this hotel!
