- susankR8955XH (10/5): Wonderful old home- beautifully set up with period pieces and cool art- lovely reception- good location in Christchurch - Everything about my communication with this hotel was great.Emails were answered promptly! Phone calls were answered with a cheery hello. Even though they have a check in between 2:00 and 6:30, they are flexible about outside hours by arrangement whenever possible. Having contacted them that we would be arriving early, the conversation was so welcoming, no problem, of course we can help with this, etc. I apologize for not remembering the name of the receptionist, she was great! She marked up a local map for us with places to go, and places to eat. She invited us to join in their 5-6 wine hour in a lovely sitting room. Little things like an earlier check in or being able to drop luggage off, leaving your car in their parking lot, all contribute to making the most use of a one night's stay.We were able to take advantage of many of the site that Christchurch has to offer. Since, we are leaving before the breakfast hour, yogurt, fruit, cereal, and gluten free bed was arranged for us. THis is a lovely place to stay!
- stephaneb154 (10/5): Very nice and quiet. - Accommodation located in a very quiet street. Very warm welcome. Queen Room: Very nice and clean. The breakfast is copious and excellent. Ideal location for exploring Christchurch and the nearby Botanic Garden. On-site parking available.
- C3865TEmichaelw (8/5): Oasis on city doorstep!! - We had a very enjoyable one night stay. Our private bathroom across the hall way not perfect but ok. Our bedroom was very comfortable, clean and well appointed. The sitting room was very homely, which we enjoyed. Breakfast was fine albeit letting people do their own toast would be an improvement. Just leave the bread on the buffet with a couple of toasters!! Great location with a very easy walk into the CBD and we received a beautiful welcome from Maddy on our arrival !! Would stay here again without hesitation.
- Sherpa801821 (6/5): Great location - We stayed here as part of our anniversary holiday travelling around South Island. First the good points. It was easy to locate and very convenient for walking into the city centre. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The continental breakfast, served in the dining room, were good and filling. Not so great - parking was tight and possibly challenging if all rooms have a car. Rooms are not sound proofed and we were woken before 6am by the occupants of the room above charging around and talking loudly. Staff did not always appear receptive of guests needs. Would we recommend staying here? Yes, - if you are a heavy sleeper, if not you may need ear plugs to get a good night.
- Flysouthforwinter (10/5): Little gem in the heart of Christchurch. - Huge room with comfy bed and large bathroom. Ideally located for walking to Botanical Gardens or to the centre with places like the Riverside Markets to shop and eat in. Very quiet so you will get a good night's sleep. The team were friendly and welcoming and full of useful advice about where to go and what to see. Breakfast was delicious with a good selection. The house itself is beautiful, built in the late 1800s. Highly recommended. We had a lovely stay.
- C8680RFpaulh (10/5): Great B&B Close to the City - A very well presented B&B in the city of Christchurch. Close to all amenities and a 10 minute walk to Riverside Markets. Good sized rooms with comfortable bed and quality fixtures. Would definitely recommend this B&B to anybody planning a trip to Christchurch in the future.
- CanberraJenny (10/5): An excellent B and B - This bed and breakfast is in a fabulous location opposite the Art Gallery and walking distance to the CBD and most attractions. The gardens are lovely and the house is decorated with lots of NZ artworks. The bedroom and bathroom is comfortable. The lounge and dining area are also comfortable. The staff were all helpful. Breakfast was good with lots of fresh fruit. A complimentary glass of wine was available in the early evening. It was a good opportunity to meet the fellow guests- from all around the world
- sharonkM6961KF (10/5): Great B&B in heart of Christchurch - Lovely B&B in center of everything. One block from bus to airport ($4 vs $50 by taxi). Great staff, especially Marcella. Great place to meet fellow travelers as they have not only a bkfst but a wine hosting before dinner. One quaint feature was that since only turn on air conditioning in summer, if it gets cold, you have electric blanket which I used and was very happy to- haven’t used one in decades.

This is a heritage property located reasonable close to the main restaurant area of Christchurch. The room was very comfortable and spacious (room 9) and buffet breakfast very good. Staff were friendly Happy to recommend
- travelblom (10/5): Great start of our holiday - What a start to our holiday!!! Lovely house, very friendly and welcome. Rooms were specious and clean. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection. The lady made a reservation for dinner at Fiddlesticks and it was no disappointment. Wonderful meal. Highly recommend!!
- 475sharynm (10/5): Orari is a Rose Garden Gem! - We were recommended this quaint little B&B by a KIWI who was point on with her description. LOCATION to City Central, restaurants( Delilah’s, Irish Pub, Thirsty Peacock)Galleries(CC Art Gallery- right across the street along with Canterbury Museum(pop up- small but nice) and Quake City ALL within walking distance! SHOPPING is amazing with Shops and a great department store on Main Street! The Orari itself is comfortable and quite cozy! We were in Rm#1 on the ground floor which was surprisingly quiet as far as city noise. SHOWER PRESSURE is phenomenal! Small room but dining area( breakfast) and living room along with outside seating amongst the beautiful garden area was very elegant but welcoming. Speaking of- a shout out of GRATITUDE to “Vale”( a Host) for her warmth and hospitality! The team @Orari does a great job with breakfast service and facility cleanliness! It is a GEM in the city- just as WE were told!
- Mennito (8/5): A historic mansion experience - A beautiful place, where the spirit of yesteryears is still in the air. Comfortable and spacious rooms, as is the well-appointed bathroom. And great central location in the middle of Christchurch within a relatively silent street. Caveat: walls are thin and one can hear the next room neighbour having a shower of flushing the toilet. And the front door lock needs replacing as it is very dodgy and old.
- 267DavidR267 (8/5): Great location,Character and Comfortable - This was the third time we have stayed at Orari (because we love the quaintness of the building and the warm welcome you get when arriving). We were going to a show in the city and the location was perfect. Once again a great welcome on arrival and the complimentary wine with other guests between 5 - 6pm was fun with a great crowd. We were in Room 6 upstairs which we have not been in before. Once again very clean and comfortable , perfect for our stay. The floor boards a little creeky (but is a very old building). Great bed . The only disappointment was breakfast, as we compared it to previous stays. A good continental buffet style breakfast but no cooked option which we had previous visits, so this was unexpected as we had looked forward to the cooked option. Despite this disappointment still a great place to stay especially with location.
- X2016TQsandram (8/5): Wasnt the best this timew - having stayed there a few times on visits , unfortunately it wasn't the best for us , we were late arriving and booking was a bit of a drama causing us to let ourselves into the wrong room ,however it was sorted unlike my embarrassment we only stayed 2 nights but the ambience we felt has been lost along with the hot breakfast option..Bed in room 10 was not very comfortable either 1of2
- Scubasuebh (10/5): Very enjoyable - Very nice old Victorian style house. Room is spacious. The had wine for the guests at 5pm. Breakfast was simple but good. Very central location that you can walk or get the tram to all places. Felt very safe. I did the gondola ride, punting on the Avon and the tram.
- PamM837 (10/5): THIS is where you wanna stay in Christchurch! - I wouldn’t change a single thing about our stay at Orari … except its length (we were only there one night & I wish it could’a’ been longer)! From our lovely greeting from “Jill” and her adorable puppy to a spotlessly clean room & bath to coupons for free drinks at a nearby restaurant (“Fiddlesticks” — yum — see separate review), we felt so welcomed and valued! There was a nice happy hour with wine/snax and an extensive continental breakfast in the sitting room/dining room space. The room also had a mini-frig and generous coffee/tea bar. Orari is perfectly located next to the Christchurch Art Gallery and only 2 blocks from the Avon River and all the CBD restaurants & shops. Don’t even THINK about staying at a big hotel … you belong at Orari!

Living room had very soft, comfy couches, where I spent a lot of time relaxing & reading in front of fireplace. It was raining. Breakfast very good. Staff friendly. Tram stop 1 block away.
- Nicola (10/5): - The hosts were excellent - very welcoming and went the extra mile for our kids when they asked to pat the dog or for a hot chocolate at breakfast time. The five-o-clock wine time was a lovely chance to chat with other guests from around the world. Very convenient location. Only downside is that it's an older building so the noise from Christchurch's boy racers can be irritating at night. A minor problem. We would definitely stay again.

- Craig (8/5): Comfortable B&B In Central Christchurch - We stayed 3 nights at Orari B&B in September. The room & whole place was very clean and well presented, the staff helpful, the breakfast great and the location was really good to be able to walk into the city. The place had a very nice feel. We appreciated that it was a B&B but were unaware when we booked that the bathroom, though private & for our use only was across the passage from our room. We found that 2, of the ten rooms had this arrangement. It worked out for us, but we would have appreciated knowing this setup when we booked. We would happily stay again and would probably choose a room upstairs.

She explained the details of our room etc along with some the history of this grand old villa. Our bedroom was comfortable and warm with a very roomy en-suite. Breakfast was included in the price with plenty to select from and service was great. The location is great and near to the city shopping. Would highly recommend this lovely bed and breakfast, I know that I will book it for my next stay in Christchurch

- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely character - This is a lovely old villa given new life as a boutique lodge. It has 10 rooms, all a bit different in size and character. I stayed in room 2 with the bathroom across a short hall. A bit strange, but as they weren’t busy, not an issue. The room was quite a good size with a big window letting in the sun. It is a bit draughty with old doors and windows, but the heat pump was good and the bed had lovely thick coverings. Breakfast is included- continental style, but found the coffee quite watery and my toast was stone cold as the manager was distracted by ?? ( I was the only person in the dining room). The location was the main reason I chose Orari- perfect for walking to the museum, park and shops. Nice to have the free onsite parking as well. Christchurch is a maze to drive, so walking was ideal.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Attractive house inside and out, central yet quiet - Our room was spacious, but a surprise was that the stated 'private bathroom' (ours had shower only) was across the corridor (rooms two and three both seem to have this arrangement, each with own bathrooms in this way), but we soon came to accept it though you might glimpse another guest in their dressing gown as a result! You do get a key for it so should be locked, although toilet had been used before us, maybe by mistake by guest in neighbouring room? Not a problem and the room, which is lovely and beautifully furnished, is cheaper (I think) as a result. Cleanliness was great and the staff service was fantastic, plus a no-holds-barred breakfast. Excellent location in pretty garden near art gallery, good restaurants etc. Have already booked return stay in same room.

We enjoyed delicious breakfasts and also sitting by the fire in the large lounge listening to music in the evening. The bedroom was huge and beautifully appointed. - Dorothy (10/5): Beautiful place to wind down in. - We arrived after a long days travel to be treated and shown our lovely room. The house itself is beautifully restored and maintained, full of little comforts, such as a glass of wine to welcome us, tea and coffee making facilities in our room, and a very comfortable bed. We only stayed one night on our way south, but we would love to have had longer here.

- AR (6/5): Christchurch B&B - Stayed one night early December. Room faced the main road and we were awoken in the early hours by road sweepers making two trips up and down the road. Not the best of nights sleep. There are no staff manning this establishment overnight night. Ourselves and a few other guests were departing early (07:30 hrs) for the Trans Alp train. No cooked breakfast option and with no staff present it was a help yourself procedure - generally a pretty poor offering given the cost of the accommodation. Property is well located for the botanical gardens / museum / art gallery etc however in our opinion it lacks the warmth that you get (mostly) from B&B owners, this felt more like a clinical commercial operation.
- Alistair and An (8/5): Great B&B close to the city centre - Orari is full of character and is ideally located in a residential area close to the city and botanical gardens. The room was very comfortable however the bathroom was across the corridor but was for our exclusive use. This was only a tiny inconvenience. A glass of wine was offered in the early evening in the lounge which was a really nice touch as it gave us the opportunity yo meet and chat to the other guests. All in all a very enjoyable stay.
- Nikki (10/5): Central and wonderful! - We had a lovely stay here. Staff are friendly and have great tips for places to see and eat. We loved it so much we cancelled our other hotel for our last day in NZ and booked another night!
- laurel (10/5): Beautiful old house in great location - We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely old building with beautiful garden in the centre of Christchurch. Breakfast was good and the living room great to sit and read or drink a complimentary glass of wine in tbe evening before going out.
- Craig (10/5): Nice B&B close to town - Arrived late and had to leave very early. Admin staff were well organised and helped with arranging transport and advice on where to eat locally. Room clean, warm and comfortable.

- Jnice (10/5): Wonderful experience - I have previously stayed in some beautiful and welcoming bed and breakfast establishments in Australia and Ireland. However Orari offered something different for me personally. Was it the beautiful building, the warm and welcoming staff. Those things contributed but i think it was the ritual of the late afternoon glass of wine offered to guests that brings together staff and guests for a short period of time to exchange in conversation. Simply felt like I was coming home to friends and family. Well done Jan and staff - a wonderful relaxing experience. We will return.
