Guest Reviews
- John (8/5): - Rustic inn in a quaint town. We stayed during an unprecedented heat wave. The air conditioning unit had a hard time competing with the warm air that was coming out of the return. We opened the windows which worked great. A screened door on the porch door would be great. Overall easy check in/out and staff was very responsive.
- Carrie (10/5): -
- Pamela (10/5): - The Innkeeper was very pleasant and considerate of my schedule and had fresh bread for me.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A wonderful historic Inn. Great resturant and lovely accommodations . A very gracious host.
- Theresa (10/5): A Delightful Step Back In Time.. - We stayed overnight while in route to a conference. The building was historical and very inviting. The grounds were beautifully scattered with flowers and greenery and very relaxing. The suite style bedroom was cozy, had an old New England Colonial charm and was a delightfully unexpected surprise! The on-site restaurant & tavern was a pleasing step back in time. The food was innovative and tasted fabulous..especially dessert! Service was friendly and exceptional! The evening's Irish musical entertainment was a memorable way to end a long day! We will definitely be returning again! Highly recommend this inn!
- Kialey (10/5): - Great Spot!
- Steven (10/5): - The room came with breakfast items, frig, microwave, snacks, eating area, and a good restaurant for dinner most days
- Matthew (10/5): - From the moment we arrived at The Birchwood Inn in Temple, New Hampshire, we knew we had found a true gem. This historic inn exudes warmth, character, and an unparalleled sense of hospitality that made our stay unforgettable.
The rooms are beautifully appointed, blending classic New England charm with modern comforts. We slept soundly in the cozy bed and woke up refreshed each morning to the tranquil sounds of the countryside.
What truly set The Birchwood Inn apart, however, was the incredible attention to detail and genuine kindness from the innkeeper. Upon our arrival, we were delighted to find a thoughtful selection of snacks waiting for us, a perfect pick-me-up after our journey. But the real highlight was the homemade banana blackberry bread – it was absolutely divine, warm, moist, and bursting with flavor. It felt like a true taste of home, and we savored every bite!
The Birchwood Inn isn't just a place to stay; it's an experience. The innkeeper's personal touch and dedication to making guests feel welcome shine through in every detail. We left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and already planning our next visit. If you're looking for a peaceful, charming, and genuinely hospitable retreat in New Hampshire, look no further than The Birchwood Inn. Highly, highly recommended!
- Joshua (10/5): - Birchwood Inn is great vintage inn! Perfect stay for our family visiting for a show at The Range. Hosts are gracious and food at the Inn was excellent. BlackBerry Banana bread for breakfast was a hit. Will definitely be back.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - What a beautiful Inn! Amy was so nice and helpful, we had a wonderful stay.
- William (10/5): - The Birchwood Inn was out of the way, but it was worth it. It was a nice country in on a very quiet road. Our room was very comfortable, and snacks as well as a continental breakfast was included. A restaurant was attached to the Inn and although we didn't eat there, we had a drink at their bar and the atmosphere was very friendly. The staff could not have been nicer or more friendly.
- Mark (10/5): - Nice room. More amenities than I have ever seen in
any room I ever stayed in.
- Sheri (8/5): - Very cozy weekend, bed was amazingly comfortable!
- Samuel (10/5): - My room was warm and cozy on a very cold New England night. If you’re going to be in New Hampshire you should at least try a night at the Inn. Read your favorite poem and have a glass of wine downstairs if you’re lucky enough to be there when they are serving dinner. Would recommend and will visit again when I’m in the area.
- Dana (8/5): - Very cozy place! Owner was very responsive to our needs. Nice selection of breakfast items and snacks in room. Convenient parking. Close to area restaurants/businesses. We stayed over Christmas so the onsite restaurant was not open but it looked quite nice. Only thing that could be improved is the scent used for the linens, as it was a bit strong. Otherwise, would definitely recommend for anyone needing to stay in the area.
- Dakota (10/5): - We enjoyed the comfiness of the room, along with the quiet of the inn
- Jennifer (10/5): - Quaint room in a beautiful area. Very nice stay.
- Ana (8/5): - Nice stay very comfortable overall was really good.
- Lionel (10/5): - great place to stay
- Laura (10/5): - Very comfortable and quiet! The desserts at the restaurant were fantastic.
- LAURA (8/5): - Quaint small inn basically in the middle of nowhere. Rooms are dated and could use some updating, but ours was a suite with plenty of room. Excellent bar and restaurant in the Inn (loved Natalie the bar tender!)
- Mike (10/5): - What a great place, I like wasn’t sure what to expect, as we’ve never been in this area before, and wow was I pleasantly surprised. We will definitely be back
- gilbert (10/5): - Rustic enjoyed
- Barbara-Jean (10/5): - It was a very nice suite. Breakfast in the room was convenient and at our pace. We had a late check in and it was very smooth. Would absolutely stay again.
- Paul (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay, very quaint and historic.
- William (4/5): - Old uneven floors, very little service unless you asked and then put up with the excuses. Not at all pleasant to stay here. Feels like it is a aggravating pastime for reluctant owners. Avoid.
- Dale (10/5): - A quaint, lovely inn. Room was well-appointed with everything that we could possibly need. We stayed three nights in the Cambridge Room. Unfortunately we stayed on days that the restaurant was closed so we didn't get to have our dinners there. A continental breakfast was provided for us in our room as well as a well-appointed basket of snacks. We are hoping to retire to the area and we will be sure to return during our house hunting trips!
- Robert (10/5): - A cute, quaint room in a historic inn.
- Nicole (10/5): - I travel a lot for work on my own in remote areas of NH & VT, so finding a safe and comfortable place to stay is very important to me. The staff at Birchwood were so kind and welcoming. My room was well prepared and very clean. The only thing that made me a little nervous was the back door in the room because I was unsure if the lock actually worked and only a thin see through drape covered the window. Just something to be cognizant of for young women traveling alone! Overall, I loved my stay and would definitely come again!
- Maureen (10/5): - The room was well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. The location was perfect for our travel and the town was lovely and peaceful. It was so nice not to wake up to mowing and blowing. The tavern looked great but wasn't open the night we stayed but we will return and check it out. We had everything we needed and more. I almost forgot that it was also spotless.
- Jason (10/5): - Cute. Wonderful great tavern. Great service
- Christina (10/5): - The property and room was so pretty and down to earth. Nothing fancy but right up our alley. The dinners they serve were high class and very good.
- Allan (10/5): Old Fashioned Inn feel - Cool place with an old "inn" vibe. Everyone there was very nice, and room was very comfortable.
- Lynn (10/5): - Wonderful ambiance at this historic inn! The owner and staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. So many little touches that made the stay homey. Loved having a basket of snacks and breakfast food provided to be able to eat in our room and relax in the morning. They accommodated my dietary restrictions that I had notified them of at time of making reservation. The interior decorating fit the historic building perfectly! Giving a feel of old, but with the comforts and cleanliness of new. Dinner in the restaurant was delightful with good food and live music (Thursday night). We slept well and enjoyed our stay.
- Daniel (10/5): Would stay again - Very pleasant surprise, comfortable and quaint.
- Liam (2/5): - Seemed friendly until they wanted to close an hour before closing time on a Saturday. Be sure to have a back up plan for something to do after 8 o'clock on a Saturday night if you are staying at the in, because Carmen is not hanging around just for you...even if you had a $100 dinner and tipped her $40...kinda lame.
- Donna (10/5): Nice B&B - Very quiet, quaint and clean. Delicious food in the restaurant downstairs. Staff wonderful.😊
- Michelle (10/5): - Quiet location and fabulous service.
- Michael (10/5): - Very friendly and clean place to stay. Great food and drinks in the tavern!
- Laura (10/5): Wonderful New England atmosphere - Charming New Hampshire Inn and Restaurant. We both enjoyed dinner at the restaurant and stayed overnight. Staff were friendly and attentive. The manager even moved her car so we would have a parking space close to the Inn. The food was really good, and we appreciated that they like to use locally sourced produce and meats.
Our only complaint may be outside of their control. There was an outside door to our room, and there was an odd noise outside and on the door for most of the night (wind? critter?). It wouldn't deter us from staying again.
Definitely recommend this business.
- Leo (10/5): - Just a quick stay for family wedding. Pleasantly surprised.Received a warm welcome when we arrived. Everyone was courteous and helpful.
- Glenn (10/5): - Very much thought has gone into attention to detail as to what any guest might want. Owner is very hands on and she works to make sure you are comfortable and well fed!
- Noah (8/5): - Convenient check in process and very nice staff. Good for the on the go traveler.
- Jeff (10/5): - Birchwood was a great find. Our room had an air of comfort and tranquility. The restaurant’s staff and food, I believe, could compete with any top restaurant. I would recommend Birchwood Inn to anyone.
- John (8/5): Good food and a pleasant stay - The Inn and Tavern are listed on the National Record of Historic Places. The people are very accommodating. The room in which we stayed and the restaurant were very clean and tidy. The exterior could use a bit of spring clean-up and maintenance. Our stay was in the early spring. Perhaps that process is about to begin.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome B&B! - Overall an awesome place and really Loved the rustic aspect! There were a few minor cobwebs when we first got into the room but it was very clean otherwise.
The water pressure was a bit questionable at times is probably the only improvement I might recommend. Loved the food!
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Cute little place to stay for the weekend. Staff was very friendly and supportive. The room was adorable. Only problem i had was when i went to shower friday night i had no hot water but i think thats because the kitchen was still open down stairs.
- Greg (10/5): - Warm greeting , lovely accommodations, well cared for inn in beautiful setting...
- Katharine (10/5): - A very lovely inn and I would definitely stay again. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The amenities are amazing. The bed was way too soft for my comfort but that is a personal preference and they can’t please everyone.
- Alexander (10/5): - Gorgeous location and an adorable kitchen garden right outside the guest rooms. Bathroom wasn't the best maintained (sink doesn't really drain all that well) but a minor wart on and otherwise lovely place.
- Barbara (10/5): Very warm cozy Inn can't wait to go back for visit - Absolutely wonderful stayover, such a pretty room. Wonderful dinner in a lovely dining room with historic charm.Owner was a sweetheart sharing with us some of the Inns history. Wonderful room, delicious dinner caring crew all around.
- Mark (10/5): Nice place. - Beautiful place. Beautiful area. Wonderful people. Very comfortable stay.
- Mark (10/5): - Quaint place. Friendly and helpful staff.
- Bruce (10/5): - Amy and Wendy were the most gracious hosts on our visit! Amy actually took the time to give us a mini informative history of Birchwood (BW) and surrounding sites. It was important for us to experience the character of New England and BW delivered! The charm of this Inn in NH is remarkable! Do yourself a favor by booking your stay here!!
- Michele (10/5): - Amy & Matthew were very welcoming & great hosts at their inn. My room was very clean, homey & stocked with snacks. Bed was very comfortable. A large assortment of fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, muffins, milk & juice to choose from for breakfast. Went to the restaurant for supper. The bar was renovated 2 yrs ago. Very nicely decorated & relaxing. The locals were very friendly. Would definitely stay again!
- Sam (10/5): Home away from home. - It was a wonderful room with a very comfortable bed but what I really loved was that the room was fully stocked with snacks, drinks and breakfast items when I showed up to make it feel more like a home away from home.
- Dorothy (10/5): - Great place to stay. Very cozy.
- Craig (10/5): - The room was warm and comfortable. The innkeeper, Amy, was right there, personable and helpful. The food was excellent. I will be going back.
- Cathy A (10/5): - The room was clean and comfortable. There was a microwave, mini fridge with fresh fruit & yogurts, and a Keurig/electric kettle for your choice of tea or coffee. We especially loved the basket of snacks left for us. Would definitely recommend this charming inn!
- Jens (8/5): - Our stay felt a bit like a time travel. Very well maintained house from 1775. A lot of space in our suite. Nice breakfast amenities.
- Charles (10/5): - Although the inn only has 3 rooms - there is also a restaurant with excellent food serving dinner (in an area with limited restaurants) and you also get a breakfast basket with a variety of items. There is also a tavern with the restaurant - so in may ways a full service inn and not just a B&B. The room was great (in a B&B old house way) but a nice tub shower combo etc.
- David (10/5): - A great find. This was a last minute decision to go to NH and The Birchwood Inn hit the mark. Everything was great about the visit including the meal that evening and the stories from the owners that went with it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great historic house
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We were bowled over by the friendliness of the staff, the truly comfortable facilities, and the excellent dinner in the Inn's dining room. We will definitely try to come back in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved it
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Unique historic building in a lovely small town. Comfortable accommodations and charming atmosphere.
- Sara (10/5): Stay at the Birchwood Inn....you'll love it! - We stayed at the Birchwood Inn this past weekend and our trip was incredible! The inn itself is very quaint and has some interesting history (be sure to check out the murals in the dining room). The rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious and they gave us a generous basket that contained with muffins, cereal, juice, milk, half ‘n half, snacks, granola bars, etc. at check-in. The grounds are really pretty and there is a ton of outdoor seating. Be sure to eat at least one meal at the tavern, we had dinner there both nights of our stay and the food and service were second to none. All of us enjoyed seafood the first evening, which was fresh and deliciously prepared. The second evening we went for burgers – both lamb & beef were available and both were perfectly grilled and tasty! In addition to the nice rooms and amazing food, the staff at this place can’t be beat! Everyone, was friendly, knowledgeable about the region and super accommodating. The owner of the inn was even kind enough to drive us back and forth to a concert in the area on Saturday night. We’re definitely looking forward to visiting again the in the future and will be sure to stick around for brunch this time! Matt, Eileen, Amy & Wendy….thanks again for a great weekend, hope to see you again soon!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A perfect lodging while we took in several concerts at the nearby Range. Our room was separate from the rest with it's own entrance which allowed us to return late at night without disturbing anyone. Thick bath towels, a continental breakfast in our room with lots of fruit, and an exceptionally comfortable bed are some of the details that make this place special. We look forward to coming back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Birchwood was an all around great night away. The room is huge and provides plenty of time and space to relax and the touches of hospitality make the Inn sparkle. Matt and Amy are very gracious hosts.
The dining room was a big a surprise (I only booked the room not knowing) and what a pleasant surprise it was. Huge servings of homemade everything! So good!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very cozy Inn - Very cute, cozy Inn. Would stay again. Would recommend this room. Very clean, bed is very comfy. Hostess had the room set up with treats.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cute, clean and great service. Breakfast was great and love the snack basket! We definitely will come again and recommend!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a great time. Warm friendly helpful staff. Food was fantastic. Room was clean and well presented. Quiet country space to relax.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Manager Amy was accommodating and quickly showed us our room upon arrival. We enjoyed the tavern being right on premises and our room was fresh and clean. The continental breakfast was more than expected as well. Bath towels were very large and soft.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent service, friendly hosts and staff. Clean, comfortable rooms.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We liked the location and historic nature. We were disappointed in the amenities (no Kleenex, no shade on the south side window & no napkins with a basket breakfast). Also, we were expecting a sit down breakfast as we had had in the past visits.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice property to stay in. I wish I had more time to stay another night.
- Carrie (10/5): Don’t miss this Inn! - The Inn is a perfect escape. The accommodations are lovely. The staff is incredibly friendly. Dinner was outstanding. Very reminiscent of trip around the English countryside staying in inns/pubs.
- Bernadette (4/5): - It was a nice place. Everything was going good till we went to take a shower. NO HOT WATER.. Also the cable went out.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location for our needs. I would have loved comfortable seating in our room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The food at the tavern was amazing! The rooms are out dated, but cozy.
- David (10/5): Check out the store across the road they rent DVDs - 👍
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfy mattress, nice snacks and breakfast basket provided.
Could not block exterior light from bedroom to sleep. Could have been cleaner (hair, ick!).
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is an antique property, well restored and a unique experience
- Nick (8/5): - Very welcoming staff. Quiet atmosphere. It was labor day weekend so they did not have any staff after Saturday night so as long as you don't mind that it's a nice experience!
- Michele (10/5): - It is so charming, cozy, and clean! Great food at the tavern!
- mary (10/5): - Delightful place- comfy bed, cute functional little kitchen area
Hosts were kind and helpful
Nice breakfast basket (jam would have been an nice extra)
Yummy dinner out on the deck area with live music made our night
Great place, would highly recommend

- Donald (10/5): - Great first time B&B experience. Cannot say enough good things about owner, staff, room. Highly recommended
- Michael (8/5): Quaint getaway. - We were staying here as it was close to a wedding venue in Jaffrey. We decided to stay away from the wedding party and have a quiet weekend. We were super happy with our choice to do that and very beyond thrilled with this property and the friendliness/attentiveness of the staff.
We would love to go back sometimes.
- Jackie (10/5): - We enjoyed a great overnight and were very happy to meet the new owners. Thank you for your hospitality.
