- barbara (1/5): Got ready for concert left never came back paid for 2 rooms used only to change in less than an hour - There was not one thing i liked . I paid 402 for 2 rooms . The beds were full beds. We came in for concert got ready and never came back . I was not going to stay there. Pictures on board oking were not even close to what I was given . Aweful Full size bed . The people there . I was honestly not going to stsy . We had to get ready somewhere for a concert we drove back home 2 hrs got home at 2 am because there was no way i was staying there .
- Claudia (1/5): I did not stay, I checked in and went up to my room. It smelled terrible, the floor looked dirty and greasy, there were s - Nothing! Everything! Staff was no help and room was so bad I had leave and book at another property.
- Bricker (1/5): - Close to interstate I had to call repeatedly to get someone to check me in. Got a lot of attitude for it. Bedding was stained, didn't feel safe, sink stopper was broken and toilet was dirty. Everything was bare minimum. Hallways were dirty. Everything was dingy and low end. I barely slept because I was scared. People kept banging on my door. Will never stay there again!!
- Lisa (4/5): -
- Matt (4/5): -
- Tommie (1/5): - The staff are cool I believe 424 has bed bugs I just stayed 1 night and had to leave immediately
- Misty (10/5): Great experience - Everyone was great. Kim is a total sweetheart and she helped me understand everything and she treated myself and my little ones amazingly. Nothing. It was great. Id recommend them and id stay there again.

- Debra (8/5): - There are smoking rooms and a kitchen, which is very handy. And they allow pets.
- Rebecca (8/5): -
- Perkins (10/5): -
- Johnson (1/5): I have bites all over myself and they won’t do nothing about it - It was right next to the interstate The room was filthy as well as having bedbugs. Totally disgusting.
- Miller (3/5): Terrible - Very dirty.
- Leason (1/5): I'll never stay there again - My family and I didn't eat the breakfast it was so mess up it wasnt even funny and it was my baby birthday. It don't look like the pictures that was online. No towels or nothing I had to get switch to another room when I first got there they put me in a room that was mess up bed and all. Then they switch me to another room the television wasn't working or the phone to call down. I would never get a room there again everyday it was something people running in in out people doing drugs and people was drunk. I was scared for my family being there the whole time didn't get sleep until I drove all the way back home. Close it down

- Raegan (8/5): -
- Trey (1/5): -
- Peter (2/5): - Bed was literally broken. Room smelled Mo
- Ben (8/5): - Parking was good. Is not secured 24 hours like the building says outside. And you have to take your own trash out otherwise its a $50 charge if you dont. The building needs to be cleaned better, like walls wiped down, floor mopped, elevator cleaned badly.
- Robert (10/5): - Some type of disturbance, some guy yelling and swearing. It happened again twice during the night.
- Deborah (10/5): - You could tell it's an older building, but it was clean and the staff were really friendly.
- Robert (2/5): - They spied on us standing outside of our room listening to our conversations they manipulated us telling me that the room was no longer available moved us around the hotel to a different location three times in one day and then again assumed by spying on us viewing the camera said my girlfriend had hit me when she had but it was us playing around so we got kicked out and lost the money we had spent on the hotel 65$, what a f****** joke you have no business being in my business as a hotel manager no reason to pry yourself into my personal life.
- Jerimiah (10/5): - Very hospitable
- Roche (1/5): Awful awful awful - Nothing Wrong room. Got a single instead of a double, would not change, asked for refund. Wouldn't do. Told me to go to booking.com where I booked. Stayed anyways, 1 bed very small, dirty room, elevator, it smelled, shower didn't work, no plug for tub. Nobody at desk to help. This was the worst place we've ever stayed in. Very poor service. Don't stay.....
- Aderman (7/5): -
- Japa (7/5): -
- Eric (10/5): - Clean and quiet and lots of help something was wrong with the bed and they came right away to solve the issue
- William (6/5): - I tricked in just after midnight. The night staff was great got me a room quickly and I was very tired and ready for that. Unfortunately internet was down I could not check weather for my travels. My room was just over 60° I had to open windows to try to warm it up to be comfortable. The bed was just worn out, we're a person might sit to get out of bed the springs just collapsed right now to the frame. Trying to take a shower in the morning in the diverter was next to impossible to pull up, barely getting water out of the shower head. Hoping this room was just a glitch the staff seemed great and the property was very clean. If I wasn't in such a rush to continue I travel as I would have taken a little more time to talk to the staff, I believe they would have been very helpful.
- Jeff (2/5): - Didn’t stay because I put in the date to stay but when I went to confirm the date got bumped up to the next night and so I went to change/cancel the reservation and they wouldn’t let me so had to pay for the night even though I didn’t even stay there! Will never book there again!! Not very accommodating!!
- Theresa (2/5): - Bed was hard as a rock, smell of Marijuana inside and outside the hotel, staff was not helpful. Checked out afyer a few hours and left the property
- Joy (2/5): - No card reader, don't take checks. It's 2025
- Cynthia (4/5): - This hotel was dirty and I felt unsafe in the parking lot. People walking around the lot staring. Slamming doors all night, ac hardly worked, and I couldn't sleep because of pot smell coming into my room. I don't recommend this hotel at all.
- Wesley (6/5): - Not a place for short stays. Its extended stay. Guests who bring their household appliances like coffee makers, toasters, utensils, plates, pots, pans, food and drink, auxillary bathroom table/counter space, etc will be OK. OTHERWISE, You are out of luck.
- Javier (10/5): - Good
- Margie (10/5): - Our room was very clean. Beds were comfortable. I would definitely stay there again. I loved that they did not have any carpeting in the room.
- Katy (2/5): - Didn’t feel safe in property, so we left.
- Geoffery (2/5): Avoid! - Check in was OK...pretty standard. Rooms are AWFUL. Our first room was dirty: holes in dirty sheets, dirty bathroom, dirty kitchenette, had what appeared to be marijuana ash on the bathroom counter, smelled like smoke. They offered to change rooms for us. Second room was cleaner, still had a funky smell. This room had a busted leg on one of the beds, TV was broken, and the bathroom light was falling off the wall. After complaining the front desk attendant got snippy with me like it's my fault. At that point I said we're leaving. Was there about an hour and a half total.
Stayed at an Econolodge about 2 miles away which was great. They told us they had 2 other families leave this hotel and check in that night as well.
Probably great if you're a meth head truck driver (which there were quite a few there that night), but not if you have children expecting a decent clean room for a night.
- Maurice (6/5): - House keeping policy wasn’t the best. Hotel don’t disclose taxes a fees in the agreement. No deposit required is good.
- Christopher (10/5): - I felt the property was very clean as well as the rooms.
- Edwin (8/5): - Close to convenience store's,close to freeways
- Claudia (10/5): - It was close enough to ISU. It was clean and quiet
- Marcia (8/5): - It was nice for an overnight stay
- Rich (6/5): - I realize this is an extended stay but its pretty run down and furnishings are not very nice. Not even a comfortable chair to sit in. I stayed a month at this location about 10 years ago and it was much nicer back than.
- Tour39719359340 (6/5): Great Value! - Whenever there is some sort of major event in Des Moines, prepare yourself for sticker shock as the prices for hotels double, and even then most are sold out. Somehow I cannot justify paying $200/night for a hotel room that was under $100 the day before so I did a little checking online and was delighted to find this hotel in nearby Ankeny. I have never stayed at a WoodSpring Suites before but the price was right & the reviews were decent so I made my reservation, sight unseen. Tina at the front desk was friendly, efficient & welcoming, with a kind word for everyone that came through the lobby. Room had kind of a Motel 6 vibe, minimalistic & basic, perhaps a bit austere but clean. Kitchenette unit w/apartment size 3/4 fridge & freezer, microwave & 2 burner elec stove but be prepared to bring your own utensils, dishes & cookware, paper towels, dish soap, etc if you plan to do any cooking en suite. Not much counter space in the bathroom but it was clean. Towels & bed linens decent, bed & pillows fairly comfortable. Easily accessible bedside & table/desk outlets for charging electronics. I would have appreciated a table or floor lamp as the overhead lights were a bit harsh but happily the stovetop hood light sufficed. Limited DirecTV programming but I travel with a Roku Firestick & was able to stream Netflix, Prime, YouTube etc & watch my faves via free wifi w/strong signal. Pet friendly. No in-room coffee or continental but you could take yourself out for a proper sit down breakfast with the money you saved by staying here and still come out ahead. Nothing fancy but entirely adequate. I chuckled to myself as I realized how spoiled I had become, accustomed to more upscale lodging. Under the circumstances, I was grateful.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again but if you have any doubts, ask to see your room beforehand to make sure it will fit your needs.
- Terrence (8/5): - Good deal
- Jon (2/5): Trash - They don't have dumpsters anywhere in the area we sat out trash outside of the door and they kept my deposit because they said I violated the terms by leaving it there when I don't know where they were expecting it to go
- adriennes2025 (10/5): My Woodsprings suites stay - I have stayed at woodspring suites at least three times this year. My stay there has always been very comfortable. In May of 2024, I rented rooms for myself, and for my daughter's family and my son-in-law's family. We all stayed a total of about 5 days. We were on vacation and used the hotel as a home base during our traveling. The staff at the hotel was very nice and very accommodating. One staff member in particular Rhiannon Ortega was very helpful. If we had any questions concerning the hotel, she helped us, and make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. And when we were looking for things to do she showed us some attractions that were nearby and suggested a few other places that we might enjoy visiting. All in all are stay at your hotel was very nice and comfortable. I have recommended your hotel to other family and friends. The staff there is very nice, helpful and friendly. The rooms are very clean, and if you needed anything further the staff was very accommodating. I will definitely be coming back when I booked my next trip.
- mardelleb (10/5): The Very Best - The hotel is clean and neat, And the location is good. But what makes this hotel a place I want to be is the friendliness
and welcoming feeling I get from some members of the staff who go out of their way to make me feel at home. Rhea, An exceptional staff member is why I have returned for years. I often arrive after hours, yet she greets me with a smile and offer to help however needed. She has come to adjust my t.v. late in the evening as well as many other instances of kindness which go way beyond what one would expect at a hotel! If you want to Stay at a comfortable, clean hotel where you are made to feel like family, I would recommend woodspring suites In ankeny iows.
- johnnypW9028JH (4/5): Over all experiences - During my stay here at wood springs suites for the 2nd time I came back because I appreciated the way Riha made me feel the first time around an after being again I see that Riha is just as friendly an professional as she was the time before! Riha is always quick to ask me if I need anything!
- Cedric (10/5): - Nothing unique ok stay a little noisy
- Katie (2/5): - I could hear something crawling on my floor all night and the only switch to turn the light on was by the door.
- Magdonal (2/5): - the rooms are smelly
- Ivania (10/5): - Very good!
- Daniel (10/5): - Excellent stay
- C1286GJmichellep (10/5): “Home away from Home” - My husband is a full time musician and we spend most of the year traveling around the Midwest and living in and out of Hotels and this is by far the best one yet! A few months back I was diagnosed with a life threatening health condition and needed major surgery and had to have several appointments in Iowa City. Since my husband is from Ankeny we decided to stay at a hotel in Ankeny while I received medical treatments! The staff at WoodSprings Suites was amazing since the moment we walked in the door! The rooms are clean, everyone is so accommodating, it’s quiet, and it truly makes me feel safe and comfortable especially while recovering from such a scary medical procedure. It really has become “home away from home” The best part is Rhia! She is so friendly and professional and is always willing and eager to help! You don’t get treated like a customer here, you get treated like family!!!
- mardelleb (10/5): The Very Best - I stay at hotels often ,but none are as friendly and welcoming as this one, This is mainly because of the hotel staff, especially Rhea. She always has a welcoming smile
and is willing to go many extra steps to make my stay more pleasant
and comfortable. It feels more like coming home Than being in a hotel.
The first time I met Rhea I had been unable to get a rental Car and the weather was horrible. I had planned to walk to the nearest.
facility to get food,
but immediately Rhea sent her daughter after me to let me know that they would gladly bring me something to eat. This was not an exception but rather the rule for the way Rhea has always treated me as a guest at the hotel. I have had to call Rhea in the middle of the night for an over flowing stool and she responded immefiately. Her attitude is not restricted to me.
I have seen her treat many other guests the same way. She is never too busy to offer a helping hand and a smile! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to experience a welcoming and comfortable hotel experience!
M. BUSCH
- rodemilyr (10/5): Very welcoming - Very respectful staff. Joe goes above and beyond to help when he is here. Only complaint we have is trying to reach someone either after hours or before opening with an emergency. But Joe and the new manager and Very nice and welcoming. They never make it seem like a bother when talking to them. The rooms were clean and didn't smell like most other hotels.
- Kate (1/5): Very pushy!!! entered my room without permission and charged our card multiple times without authorization - At first they were cool about my disability They switched up and became very pushy … entered my room without permission and charged our card multiple times without authorization
- Trask (10/5): Great - They work with your needs Nothing
- Miguel (8/5): - It was nice but it had a funky smell. The back door was always unlocked even though it said you needed your key.
- Coan (5/5): Passable - Privacy The beds
- Mr (6/5): Pleasant - Like the bedroom and the friendly staff No ice machine and no towels ,no breastfeed
- Tera (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maksim (10/5): - Good
- Roy (1/5): Bad -
- Eric (8/5): Very good - The bed was a little uncomfortable and smaller than expected, but everything else was acceptable for the price point. The front desk and cleaning folks were kind and helpful.
- Terrence (7/5): Good -
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional - Good value, clean, had refrigerator and stove N/a
- Galdino (2/5): - Bad service
- Rachel (6/5): Pleasant -
- John (5/5): Not too bad of a place to crash for the night. - cheaper price and was actually close to many stores. The bed was not super comfortable but it was okay.
- Zamia (2/5): - Too much negativity to elaborate
- Anonymous (1/5): I need a refund. - Absolutely nothing. I felt unsafe. I hated the property. I didn’t feel safe. No front desk. I didn’t stay. I booked for a non-smoking, and the lady I finally got ahold of over the phone while standing at the property told me she only had smoking. I requested a refund then. Still waiting. This place really is shady though.
- Elmer (2/5): Very poor - Outside curb appeal is ok. Beds are really uncomfortable and are camping style beds, pictures on website are taken with a bedskirt. Rooms dont smell the greatest.
No one is ever around at night when there is problems with keys, have to call a phone number on wall then woman comes out all grumpy.
- Lane (4/5): - Never got to stay at the Woodspring Suites in Ankeny, IA, as booked through Expedia and no room was available when we arrived. The property is an undeveloped area and seemed a lil shady.
The front desk clerk, Jacob, was very understanding and helpful. He assisted in our relocation effort with Expedia and we really appreciated his assistance and insight.
- Linda (1/5): I wouldn't stay here again. - A roof over my head. Housekeeping doesn't know how to clean, dogs pee on floors and know one wants to clean. Got new manager and all I see is it getting worse daily!!
- Alleman (1/5): Bad -
- Michelle (4/5): - I drove around the hotel 3 times trying to find the main entrance. The room was undecorated with no floor or table lighting. Don’t stay here for only 1 night and expect a typical hotel.
- Linda (8/5): Very good - No breakfast.
- Eric (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (6/5): the room was decent for what I paid - the room was good size and not busy around the hotel. the room was good for the price. It smelled very bad in the hallways and into the rooms. it was terrible
- Mark (1/5): This was not what we booked online - nothing everything
- Brian (5/5): A Great Deal - But Be Prepared - The price is great and the facility is located very conveniently between Ankeny and Des Moines (one exit north of the I35 and 80 interchange). This is a long-term stay facility and they really are not geared to be a hotel. If you arrive late the desk isn't open and getting a hold of the onsite manager is confusing (different phone numbers all over the place). They had very confusing extra agreements about garbage that really don't apply to overnight guests -- yet you need to sign them. The cleanliness was a mixed bag -- while much of the room was clean there was hair on the bed sheets (not cover - the sheets). That said -- we bring our own sheets for just such a contingency so the room was a real bargain and it was just a very annoying check-in process.
- Carmona (9/5): Superb - Is very quiet and relax
- Matthew (5/5): Passable -
- Warren (6/5): Pleasant - The staff was very unfriendly at the front desk. She did not greet us when we walked up to the counter, just stared at us so we began by saying we’re here for a reservation. The next morning we were unsure if we needed to turn the keys back in and she looked at us, walked by, and then half way down the hall, passive aggressively said “you just leave it in the room.”
- Diing (5/5): Passable -
- Hawk (5/5): Passable -
- Amanda (4/5): Flew to Iowa to watch our son's football game. He plays for Baylor, and they played Iowa State. - Good location. The entire hotel smelled bad, especially the room itself. The bed was small and extremely uncomfortable. The entire room could use a remodel as everything seemed really outdated.
- dianagI6550WZ (2/5): WORST. PLACE. EVER. - This is not a hotel, it's more like a hostel:
• They don’t have breakfast
• Frond desk only open from 9am-9pm
• Room looked like a barracks/convent
• AC barely worked and is a “wet” air. Carpet is wet and dirty!
• Has microwave and stove top, but no pots/pans/silverware/utensils
• Someone was napping in the hallway when I arrived
• Your back door is NOT locked 24/7. You don’t need a key to access it. This probably explains the bullet point above
• My deadbolt didn’t bolt
• TV/Dish has 2 channels
You have to take your own trash out at the end of your stay or you get charged!!
To be very unprofessional, this place feels "rapey". And I'm just saying that this room is worse than my college dorm or first apartment...
- Brent A (4/5): - Management doesn’t care about patrons, changed checkout date and this place is not an extended stay hotel. Second worst WoodSpring suit I have ever stayed at.
- Michelle A (4/5): - This was the absolute worst bed I've ever slept in! I think the mattress must've been about 20 years old! It was on a metal frame with no box spring. If I would've had another option, I would have checked out and stayed somewhere else. This was unfortunately state fair time and rooms were scarce.
- Dan (6/5): - I knew this was a bare bones extended stay hotel, but I feel like I need to take 2 showers when i get home. Migrant workers roaming the halls stinking it up. The bed was the worst hotel bed ever. Imagine matress springs with a thin sheet covering them and you're just laying on them. It worked in a pinch as i only stayed to get 3-4hrs sleep after the Knoxville Nationals but I will never stay here again.
- Martha (2/5): - Property smelled
- Laura (2/5): - It was filthy and smelled heavily of cigarettes... the check in was a window with a lock metal grate...first sign i should have ran... fools you bc the outside looks like a new building.. the cigarette smell kept me up all night
- Erin (4/5): - Looks nice from the outside. Wish I had looked at the reviews before booking. Front desk is NOT staffed 24/7 as listed on travelocity. Only time we saw someone was at check in. Room seemed dated and the bed was not comfortable. Decided to use the couch pull out which was smaller than a twin and smelled of urine. There were no extra sheets for the pull out in the room so we had to call the hotel multiple times to actually get sheets for the couch. Checking out was confusing as there was no staff to talk to or key drop. Would not reccomend or stay here again.
- Lisa (2/5): - Worst experience ever, no staff on duty, bathroom dirty, hair in the tub, handprint on wall, overcharged for rooms/charged as a transaction and not a "hold" FOR $200 TRANSACTION AND NEVER PROVIDED A RECEIPT FOR HOLD UPON CHECK IN OR CHECK OUT as I was told by Drew, no one EVER answers the phone, 1 bar of soap given and it had been opened already, deactivated key card before 11am check out. PEOPLE WALKING AROUND WITHOUT SHOES. $50 Charge if you don't take out your garbage, $50 charge if you check out after 11am but there was no one on duty to check you out. Checked out by head of housekeeping after using after hours phone and given receipt but it did not list the checkout time NOR THE $200 TRANSACTION THEY CHARGED TO MY ACCOUNT. DREW SAID IT WOULD BE EMAILED TO ME, NEVER RECEIVED AN EMAIL. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER, DON'T STAY HERE, NOT SAFE AND THEY ARE DISHONEST. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY, WOULDN'T LET MY DOG STAY HERE!!!!
