Guest Reviews
- Joseph Brett (10/5): - Nice and quiet
- Jeff (10/5): - This is a unique hotel with the character of a classic villa, not like the dull all-the-same modern hotels. Our host personally showed us to our room. I would've liked it if my schedule had allowed more time to check it out.
- Russell (4/5): Just a place to sleep - We stayed here due to its location to the airport. Next time i will spend a few more dollars to be in a nicer place. people were very nice, Pura Vida
- Jessica (10/5): - The hotel owner or manager was one of the nicest people ever. Really got to know us as people instead of just guests. Really genuine guy
- Andrew (4/5): - Very small hole in the wall. They did accomadate a late check-in, but the room was tiny, the bed was uncomfortable, it was right on a noisy highway next to the airport. Was a terrbile night of sleep. In hind sight, i would have spent twice this much to have been anywhere else. Luckily we were only booked there for the 1 night.
- HAIYAN (8/5): - It is only 5 minutes away from the airport, we don't have to worry about missing flights due to traffics or a expensive taxi. Meals are not expensive so the price is good for transferring between cities in the country.
- David (2/5): - Nothing else available.
- Autumn (8/5): Fine for the short term - Definitely a good place for a short stay. Only needed something for 12 hours until flight. Would not recommend for any long term stays. Room is small, but clean. Area seemed a little suspect, but we weren’t bothered while we there and nothing happened.
- David (6/5): - We were only there for one night, but I would not be able to stay there longer. Beautiful hotel inside and outside, but the room was tiny, along with the bathroom. The worst was the outside noise being so close to the highway: loud trucks, motorcycles, and cars all night long, along with low flying airplanes.
- Stanley (8/5): - Good staff
- Ava (4/5): - This was a very poor facility in a rough part of town The interior was dingy and the room had a chemical smelled Room size was small It is way too expensive for what it was Only advantage was close to the airport Would not recommended
- Elena (4/5): - The design of the property is nice, but needs a lot of maintenance. There is no water in the pool. Didn’t look clean at all, and it’s very humid inside of the room. Not a lot of choices for breakfast, no hangers or place for clothing. The only thing that it was very close to the airport. And the staff is very nice!
- Anne (8/5): - Convenient to airport (we were not visiting San Jose). Reception was gracious and helpful. She helped us find a restaurant. Restaurant choices were not inviting but ok. The room was inviting and the patio lovely. The street noises were pretty extreme and earplugs provided were much appreciated.
- Clarence (6/5): - The breakfast you offered was not up to standard. Your boiled eggs were not cooked
- Bridget (4/5): - The overall hotel ambiance was pleasant and artistic. Our room was very close to the road with thin glass windows, and thus very noisy at night. We received notice 2 days prior to our arrival that the pool was under maintenance, which was slightly disappointing. Breakfast provided was a bowl of fruit and some Walmart pastries.
- Hanna (2/5): - Very noisy, felt very unsafe
- Jessie (10/5): - Henry was so helpful and kind! What a cool little place.
- Terrence (6/5): NOISY - Very noisy: Traffic.
- mark (6/5): - Very convenient to airport. No pool and extremely limited on breakfast.
Overall - get what you pay for ! W
- Holly (4/5): - Pool was dirty, staff not so nice
- Pedro (8/5): - The hotel itself it’s beautiful but it seems it was under maintenance. The staff is friendly:)! There is a really good restaurant called La Casona Rio right down the street. You can literally walk there and you can tell them Pedro (Nicaragua) recommended you to go eat there. You are going to love it:-)
- Verified traveler (10/5): Small but mighty - The Casa Antigua was perfect for our ~8 hour stay. Their staff could not have been kinder. The owner is a gem of a human, and the organized a shuttle for us that picked us up promptly at 3 AM to get us to the airport in time.
- Paul (10/5): - Very welcoming and accommodating, especially for checking in near mid-night due to flight delays.
- Shahin (8/5): Not what the pictures show - Not what I expected. When using the toilet, your face is in the shower curtain and the sink to wash your hands is right next to your face by your pillow on the bed with no room to even stand in front of the room reminded me of a jail cell, although it was clean it was very tiny compared to what the pictures make it look like . Everytime a truck goes by the bed shakes . Extremely loud although they give you ear plugs. That’s says it all
- SU-LAN (10/5): - The owner is very hospitable and helpful. The staff tried his best to assist our needs.
- Sanjeev (2/5): - Too noisy, absolutely no noise insulation
- Cody (2/5): - We check it out upon arrival.
- Damien (10/5): - Gracias por un hospedaje muy lindo. Llegamos tarde pero nos recibieron en Recepción igual. En la mañana nos ayudaron con avisos para nuestro viaje dentro de Costa Rica - muy amables.
- Joseph (10/5): - This is beautiful homy location, complete with pets and friendly staff. The owner takes an active role in the maintenance and reads every review.
- keith (10/5): - Friendly staff
- Agnes (4/5): - Place was clean and staff very kind and courteous. However, the place is very noisy, doesn’t have a food service and is in an unwelcoming neighborhood. The place is also dated. Owners are doing their utmost to satisfy the client, however. it must be hard to compete with chains…
- jordan (2/5): Bugs! - Bed was infested with ants. We left immediately and never got out money back. I would never recommend this place.
- john (2/5): - Terrible place, left immediately
- Phillip (10/5): - Great, very friendly and accommodating host. Beautiful and historic property! Close to the airport and rental return. Felt very comfortable and makes for a great place to stay during travel.
- Kyle (10/5): - The staff was very friendly in making sure I had a cab back to the airport in the morning so I didn’t miss my flight. For some reason my cell phone wouldn’t make outbound calls to the local cab companies.
- Douglas (8/5): - Excellent for staying the night if you get in late, or before departing.
- Zahra (10/5): - Wonderful experience for a stay near the airport. The owner is phenomenally friendly as he talked to us and gave us a great advice for the rest of our trip including the best driving routs and so much more about the locations to stay as well as tourist attractions. The breakfast was very good, fresh and tasty. We’re excited to stay here again at the end of our trip.
- David (2/5): - It is close to the airport, and check-in is open until midnight.
- David (10/5): - The owner and staff are absolutely fantastic! The proximity to the airport is perfect as I had a very early flight to catch. This gave me a nice place place to chill for my last day in beautiful Costa Rica. The owner and his friend are amazing! He’s been all over the world and it’s very clear to see how his positively acts as a magnet for positivity. Beautiful soul and a nice place to spend my last night.
- Alberto (10/5): - Great service for his owner
- Cassandra (10/5): Fabulous People! - I loved my stay at Casa Antiqua, short though it was. The staff and particularly the owner went out of their way to accommodate my needs. I had left my cell phone in the van and they did everything possible to help me retrieve it quickly since I was flying out at 7am the next morning. I can't thank them enough! They also linked me up with airport transport at 4:45 the next morning and the cab arrived on the dot. A great experience! The room was very clean.
- Hali (10/5): - We loved our short stay at Casa Antigua. The owner and manager is incredibly attentive and helpful. The place is pretty incredible, with art and lots of beautiful woodwork created by the owner. It's very convenient to the airport. There were some rundown parts (ie broken toilet seat, restaurant no longer open), but overall it's a great value and we would stay there again.
- sal (10/5): - CLose to the airport
- Michele (8/5): Nice hotel, very helpful & kind staff - Checking in was perfect, i believe it was the owner, he was helpful & incredibly helpful. He called our taxi for an early morning pickup, & brought us some morning snacks.
The overall room definitely needed some care, lots of noise, but they have earplugs on the nightstand.
I would stay again for an overnight
- John (10/5): - Great place near the airport with a relaxed atmosphere and good service.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Uncomfortable travel - It was very uncomfortable. There was a lot of noise and even the bed was terrible.
- Patricia (10/5): - Great place to stay if you want to be near the airport and want a good value. The owner was so nice and very helpful. Very unique place, which we found to be charming.
- Mark (10/5): - This place is hand crafted, comfy, beautiful, and the owner bent over backwards to make our stay accommodating. Close to the airport and will definitely be sa future stay if I ever make it back to Costa Rica
- Zachary (10/5): - Love the staff! very friendly and informative! Perfect place to kick off our trip
- Robert (4/5): - No comment
- James (10/5): - The caretaker were absolutely delightful
- Alexia (10/5): - Very nice staff, close to airport!
- Jacqueline (10/5): - We stayed 2 nights, not consecutively, on our vacation and it was a comfortable and beautiful place to stay. But what made it really special is the owner, Henri. He gave us travel tips and places to stop along our way! We ended up having a lovely conversation with him and found out that he made all of the tables and chairs, and the wood decor for the entire hotel! It was truly a unique place to lay our heads for a night or two.
- Barb (10/5): - They were very accomodating.
- Myron (10/5): - We loved our stay at the Hotel Casa Antigua. Our room was clean and very adequate. This would be our first choice if we every are in the area again.
- Joshua (10/5): - Casa Antigua was a pleasant surprise on our last night before flying out of Costa Rica. We had missed our flight that day due to construction/accident/who knows? on the road back from Puerto Viejo. We did a quick search for a place near the airport as we had to be out the door at 5:30 am. for our rescheduled flight. After a quick check in we made our way next door to La Casona 2 bar and restaurant for some wonderfully cold beers and decent nachos. Later we ordered pizza from Pepperoni's Express up the street in a cool little neighborhood. Use the light if you need to cross the street as it is very busy. We can also strongly recommend the mini super and licores Zarpa for a great selection of beer, wine and liquor. We brought our pizza back to the hotel and Henri immediately turned on the outdoor lighting around the pool and made sure we had plates and napkins. He also booked our $5 taxi ride to the airport the next morning. Overall, we were very impressed with the hotel, location and service. Please note that this hotel is on a busy road right under the flight path of the planes. However, after about 10 p.m. the noise was quite tolerable and we had a good night's sleep.
- Dave (10/5): - Helena makes the stay wonderful.
- Lorana (10/5): - The location near airport was great and easy to get to by taxi. The staff, especially owner/manager, was incredibly helpful and saved us lots of money with drivers to destinations. Property was interesting but ok, kinda noisy. English speaking manager.
- Larry (4/5): There are a lot better options - This place is right under the path of the planes landing. The traffic is really loud too but my last straw was that the shower only had cold water. I had wonderful coffee everywhere i went in Cost Rica but here. It was the worst coffee of all.
I rarely do reviews but i would not recommend staying here.
- Richard (10/5): Hotel review. - Overall it was ok, I just didn't like the dogs on the property. One dog almost attack me when I rang the Gate bell, to alert the Attendant that i wanted to get out off the lot.
- Casey (10/5): - Henry was an outstanding host. Very friendly pets on site made us feel right at home.
- Elizabeth Ashley (10/5): - There are not enough words to express how wonderful this place is. It's conviently located so close to the airport, it's affordable and the manager/owner Henri has created a beautiful oasis within the city. As soon as you walk in you will forget your in the city center. There is a beautiful pool, and flowers and trees lining every square inch. Not only was breakfast great but Henri took about 45 minutes to sit down with us and help us plan our next move. I never plan ahead on my adventures, i let life take me and i go with the flow. The flow led us to Henri. He gave us wonderful recommendations and even called and booked a room for us at a resort up north using his connections to get us a discount. They don't make people like Henri anymore. He is wonderous.
- stefanos (10/5): - Henry the owner of the hotel is super helpful and friendly. I was happy to skip the typical airport hotel experience and stay here. It feels like it should be by a beach! The area of course is mainly servicing the airport but this hotel is an oasis within that. Highly recommend for an economical stay with character versus the run of the mill airport hotel. Thanks Henry!
- Daniel (10/5): Nice place to stay near the airport in San Jose! - A nice simple low budget option, located close to the airport. Henry, the proprietor of the hotel, is extremely friendly and helpful, and he’s done a beautiful job of decorating the old structure with his woodworking skills! You’ll feel welcomed here.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel was super cute and the host was wonderful, but our room was super small and the noise was aweful.
- Brendan (10/5): - Henrie was an incredible host. He was extremely nice, gave us tips on other travel, and was an all around great guy
- Beth (8/5): - This was such a lovely place. Great vibe. Loved the furnishings and decorations. The pool is nice too. The owner is very friendly and the food from the restaurant next door is great. But, bring EARPLUGS!! This property has a great location, but is right in the flight path from the airport and on a major street.
- Jacqueline (6/5): - Property is quaint and owner is friendly
- Robert (2/5): - No hot water, breakfast was very basic of toast and lukewarm coffee
- Lawrence (10/5): - The host was very helpful and pleasant
- Shepperd T (8/5): - A little too loud. Very close to a main road. Rustic and reasonably priced.
- Kelly (8/5): - Clean and friendly
- Dana (10/5): - Owner Henry made our day. Very friendly, accommodating, and always willing to help. He even helped us book a taxi ride to the airport in the morning. Thanks Henry for welcoming us to Costa Rica at the start of our trip and helping us get back home at the end!
- Dennis (8/5): - The host Henry is wonderful, he can suggest things to see and do and he welcomes you to use the place like your own home. He has 2 lovely dogs on the property. So convenient to the airport and Henry will arrange the taxi for you going to the airport. Complimentary continental breakfast included. There is lots of traffic in the area and the occasional plane flies over so abit noisy unless you get a room at the back. Felt very comfortable here.
- Shannon (10/5): - The family running Casa Antigua were so welcoming and awesome! They called a cab for us and even left coffee and cake for us before our 4:30am flight.
The place itself is a work of art as well. the outdoor garden area is beautiful. Much of it handcrafted by the owner. There are cool restaurants nearby as well. Great stay!
- William (6/5): - Advertised as having a restaurant but does NOT. Not nearly as nice as the photos show it to be. Extremely loud!
- Tracy (8/5): - A bit noisey but clean and safe
- Elizabeth (8/5): - This place is beautiful - the whole thing a work of art. Great restaurants in walking distance. Unfortunately it's great location close to the airport makes it incredibly noisy and so it's difficult to sleep. Lots of street traffic - big trucks, horns and it's constant. Planes take off directly over the hotel so that's loud too. But, the staff are beautiful, helpful people and if you bring noise cancelling headphones it would be perfect.
- Lorna (4/5): - The impression gained from the web is misleading. The staff were welcoming and charming, it was clean but our room on the street was very noisy all night. There is no restaurant on site although we were recommended others. We didn’t have breakfast as we’re leaving early. Helpful staff ordered taxi to airport for us. Expensive.
- clifton (6/5): - the room is right by airport and a major road so it is nosey but its great if you have a morning flight its 3 min from airport and staff called me a car it was only $5
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very loud , dogs, cars and airplanes.
- Jacqueline (8/5): - Loved this unique hotel. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and a beautiful cat named Pishou hanging around. If you want a big in the box hotel experience don’t stay.
It had everything we needed for,
this leg of our Costa Rican journey. Quite loud as it’s near a highway and the airport but we managed despite the noise. We would return.
- Taylor (10/5): - Host was super friendly and accommodating after a long day of travel. Gave us a quiet room, dinner recommendations, called a taxi for us for the next morning.
- Phil (10/5): - The best part of staying at Casa Antigua was the warm friendly welcome and the hospitality of the owner and staff. It was a real boost to my soul.
- Marc (10/5): - We so enjoyed meeting Henry and hearing about how he crafted the beauty of the place.
- Bailey (10/5): - Host Henry is incredibly kind and helpful, you make a friend when you stay here!
- Brenda (10/5): - Great start to our trip, beautiful property, I would stay there again and we felt so welcomed. It’s a one of a kind experience. I like highly recommend.
- Steve (8/5): - Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Room and common areas were very clean. Matress was full sized and acceptable.
TV didn't work. No a/c small room.
Plenty good for 1 overnight stay to run to the airport. No Holiday Inn.
- Forrest (10/5): - Wonderful peaceful oasis near the airport. Perfect way to start or end your time in Costa Rica. The rooms are unique and beautiful, the courtyard is tranquil and it was all put together and designed and built by the incredibly helpful owner. Who also made us a delicious dinner. Highly, highly recommend
- Brian (10/5): - Superb host and hospitality.
- Maria (10/5): - Casa Antigua is a beautiful hotel very close to SJO airport. Very comfortable bed and bathroom and a great breakfast in the morning. There is also a pool and beautiful gardens. Lovely place!
- David (2/5): - The place itself was unique, but it seems as though there was only one other couple there and they put us in the outhouse. It was like a terrible addition that was later made to the hotel. When I went to check out at 8:30 in the morning, I was looking around and noticed every single room inside was empty. Why didn't we get a room inside the building? We checked in at 7:30 pm (not that late). The one staff member there was not very friendly and made us feel as though we were a big bother. The bed and sheets were clean, so we stayed since we had an early flight out. The place looks old and obviously mismanaged. One star is being nice. Would never recommend to anyone. Have no idea why anyone would give 5 stars. Don't let those mislead you.
- IVIS (10/5): - Friendly staff,excelent service…
- Joshua (10/5): - The property was inventively designed
- Eric (6/5): - Staff was a lil rude and forgot I had a reservation when I arrived. No transportation to and from airport.
- Patrick (10/5): - Great simple place close to the airport
- Ismel (10/5): - Great antique looking and cozy hotel that makes you feel like you are home . Super close to the airport as well and great nice friendly staff
- Michelle (8/5): - We only stayed one night here before going to the San Jose airport. It was fine, no frills.
- Joel (10/5): - The downside is mainly because it’s next to the airport, you’ll get some loud planes (but they supply you with ear plugs). But the place is really cool looking, there’s free breakfast every morning, and Edwin is a GREAT concierge. He took very good care of me. All that for the price offered is more than worth it! Convenient grocery stores, liquor stores, pharmacy, and a restaurant right nearby - La Casona restaurant just two doors down is great and cheap. Also good service. Nice people and experience, all around
- Donovan (10/5): - Great place to stay near the airport.
