- Leoni (5/5): It was a pleasant and comfortable stay. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Food was bit of a disappointment. Curries - It’s a beautiful colonial era hotel. However, amenities also that much old. Should spend bit of money updating bathrooms and toilets systems, and proper refrigeration for the hotel main restaurant. Like the location and the surrounding of the hotel.

- Michael (10/5): It was one of my last nights in Sri Lanka so I splurged on staying here. Got the full package. Balcony room with full bu - Everything that I expected from the Galle Face Hotel that I expected was even better. From the room to the view from the balcony to the staff to the buffet dinner and breakfast that was put on. One thing I was very impressed with was the night I was there. The hotel had put on a function for the local Hindu staff as it was the final days of the New Year’s festival. They were having a fantastic time with family as well. Big tick on that. The history was one reason i wanted to stay there seeing the celebrities and sport people photos and the small museum they have. Thank you. Can’t fault anything

It is a Combo treasure and while old it has charm and character. Restaurant setting perfect
- Saar (10/5): Excellent and recommended hotel - Excellent hotel. Beautiful hotel, located in an ancient building and operating as hotel since 1864. Looks like a museum. Excellent service from all the hotel employees. Very unique place. Many famous people stayed there and you can see there photos in the hotel. The hotel is located in a nice area and you can see the Indian Ocean from your room window and hear the waves.

The breakfast buffet was excellent quality and food at the restaurant delicious. Possibly more vegetarian options needed on a la carte menu. Staff were all extremely attentive. Lovely poolside area and ability to go down to the beach. Gym is good, but perhaps a little small. Some furniture in rooms need updating...limited plug points and not enough seating in room. Perhaps needs a bit if refurbishing in some rooms

From the timeless colonial charm to the breathtaking ocean views, every moment felt special. Situated right on the edge of the Indian Ocean, the location is absolutely stunning. We loved being directly adjacent to the vibrant Galle Face Green, where our family enjoyed evening walks, soaking in the local atmosphere. The hotel is centrally located, making it incredibly easy to explore Colombo's nearby shopping, historic sites, and restaurants, yet it remains a peaceful seaside escape from the bustling city.The absolute highlight of our visit was the exceptional hospitality. A special thank you goes to Ivoni, whose attentiveness and warm professionalism truly elevated our experience. She went above and beyond to ensure our family had everything we needed, making us feel genuinely welcome and cared for throughout our stay.We also looked forward to the morning breakfast buffet at The Verandah Restaurant every day. The spread was incredible, featuring an extensive variety of authentic Sri Lankan delicacies, like fresh live-station hoppers and flavorful curries, alongside excellent Western options. Dining outside while listening to the waves of the Indian Ocean was the perfect way to start the day. Special mention to Shaman Ranaweera’s musical performance. Service was excellent. Our wedding was also held on Galleface hotel on 23rd April at the Grand Ballroom, Special thanks given to Mr. Niroshana and Mr. Sampath who were assigned for the wedding coordination..Event was really successful all the guests admired the function.

The hotel staff is not friendly towards guests, and their goal is to extract as much money as possible from tourists. I cannot explain to others why my card was charged a $700 deposit, which was not mentioned in the description on booking.com, before I paid for my room. However, the room rate was significantly lower. The young man whose name is displayed on the badge in the attached photo claimed that this was the hotel's policy. He attempted to charge my card for $700 three times, although the first payment was successful. Naturally, the second time, my card ran out of funds. He shrugged his shoulders and said that my card was damaged. When I asked why I was charged a deposit before I paid for my room, no one could provide an explanation. My bank had blocked the $700 deposit. Later, the same employee assured me that they would contact the bank and resolve the issue. However, four days later, when I was leaving, it became clear that no one would return my deposit. This was the first problem. Additionally, after my luggage was delivered as a single suitcase, three large men from the hotel staff were waiting for me in the hallway, hinting at a tip. They saw that I was upset about the incident at the front desk, but they continued to demand money. I do not recommend this hotel. If you are interested in history, you can visit it as part of a tour. There are other five-star hotels in Colombo that are worth considering. However, this is a topic for a separate review.

As always the services in all departments have been excellent . All staff especially the front desk staff and breakfast serving staff are customer friendly and provide a very professional and high standard of services. In particular would like to mention few staff who need special mention for the extra distance they go to serve the guests . From the bfst section. MrAri ( hoppers area) and Ms Natheela . The food was fabulous, and the setting stunning, with marvellous views to the Indian Ocean. The staff are very kind, courteous and helpful. A special thank you to Juthara for taking us on a heritage tour and showing us all the highlights. We particularly liked the walk down memory lane of all the famous people who have stayed here over the centuries. Also thanks to Gayan, who has been their Bell Boy for over 30 years and goes beyond his duty to make your stay pleasant and memorable. We would go back and stay in a heartbeat.

- Sean (10/5): The classiest hotel in Colombo - There are a great many top quality hotels in Colombo all of which you would have a fabulous stay at. Many of these hotels are brand new and will offer luxury at the highest level however none of these other hotels can get even close to the Galle Face hotel in terms of charm and uniqueness. Basically none of the other hotels have anything like the history of the hotel which feels like a step back in time in a very positive way. Like many good hotels in Sri- Lanka the staff are excellent but it would be remiss of me not to mention Iresha who is front of house at reception and also the outstanding service provided by Rifshaz Refai who is front of house manger who facilitated a slightly later checkout due to our late flight time totally seamlessly. We will be returning to Sri-Lanka and I would not even contemplate staying anywhere else 😎 nothing. It was all good

Breakfast was an amazing buffet that literally had everything. We had a garden room that was very spacious with a large bathroom. Very enjoyable for our last night in Sri Lanka. The cafe menu states the service & Tax charges but fail to mention the %. Which the TAX is 24%. So be prepared for about 34% more.

- Anjala (9/5): - After a hectic schedule across the region, I came to Galle Face Hotel for a short three-day break and ended up staying six. It truly is the perfect oasis in the heart of the city. With direct access to the sea, a saltwater pool, and some of the most beautiful sunsets you can imagine, it’s an ideal place to unwind and reset. The breakfast spread is excellent, and cocktail hour at 1864 offers a fantastic selection in a great atmosphere. A special mention to Dharshi, the Guest Relations Officer, who was exceptionally helpful and responsive in assisting us with extending our stay. She handled everything quickly and efficiently, making the experience seamless. All the staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and always smiling, which made the stay even more enjoyable. We will definitely be back.
- Jagath (10/5): Amazing stay at an amazing place - Had an amazing experience in one of the oldest hotels in Asia. We booked a garden view room, but got a sea-view room as a free upgrade. The staff really made us feel welcome and even gave a special treat when they heard about our aniversary celebration. Madhuka, Dinusha, Darshi, Belinda, Chandana and Iresha were all wonderfully attentive and helpful. Breakfast buffet was out of this world. Highly recommend the hoppers if you haven't had it. Don't forget to see the historic artifacts spanning over 150 years.

Very comfy beds , the pool area was great - large seawater pool. Perfect location for exploring Colombo. The buffet restaurant has a nice colonial feel to it & good food. The staff were super friendly & helpful. A little tired in places & could do with a little maintenance.

- Carmine Delcore (8/5): Conveniently located, would stay here again - We only stayed one night. Check-in was as good as it gets for Sri Lanka. Breakfast was really nice, great selections. The hotel location is perfect. The hotels main restaurant was being renovated, they would have covered it better to make it less of an eye sore. Apart from that all was great.
- Sean (8/5): Wonderful Galle Face Hotel - This grand hotel may not be as slick as the newer 5 star hotels in Colombo but class is permanent. The hotel is sophisticated and carries with it an air of elegance despite it being a little tired around the edges in places. The staff are first rate. the breakfast is amazing and the rooms are enormous. There are fewer and fewer old hotels like this one and so would certainly stay here again Cocktails were delicious but needed a little more of the alcohol element to be spot on
- Belinda (1/5): Terrible customer service - The location. The hotel took a £189 deposit, for our £108 stay, to cover any extras that we might have. Both amounts were debited from our credit card, meaning that we paid out over two and a half times what we needed to. We are still awaiting this refund after two weeks, and despite many emails! Disgraceful. Additionally, the staff at our final breakfast were very pushy about people leaving a good review, loading up Tripadvisor on phones and typing in their own names themselves in order to get mentioned favourably.

- sally (10/5): Wonderful colonial charm in a perfect seafront location. - We had a wonderful stay at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, an absolutely iconic, historic property with timeless colonial charm and a beautiful seaside setting. The hotel has a very classic design with a real sense of character and heritage. It was actually a nice change from modern, minimalist hotels and gave the stay a lot of personality. We loved the incredible buffets with so much variety and excellent quality. The pool area was a highlight, relaxing and beautifully maintained, and we especially enjoyed the poolside bar for sundowners and the atmosphere at sunset when the flag is taken down with a traditional bagpipe ceremony — a really memorable daily ritual. We stayed in a family room and had plenty of space, with very comfortable beds and a peaceful stay overall. A truly memorable and authentic experience in Colombo — highly recommended.

- Brandon (10/5): An iconic colonial gem with exceptional staff that keeps us returning year after year! - We have been staying at the Galle Face Hotel for many years now every time we visit family and friends in Colombo. Even though we have places we could stay elsewhere in the city, we always make the decision to return here because we love it so much. The hotel itself is an iconic piece of Colombo’s history; it is a beautiful old colonial hotel where stepping through the doors feels like a step back in time. The amenities are superb, particularly the fantastic 50-metre pool and the amazing food across multiple dining options. The best part of this hotel is undoubtedly its staff. We have come to know many of them well over the years, and their hospitality is incredible every single time we see them. We want to give a special mention to the hotel team who make our visit special every time - Dinushi, Darshi, Manoj, Frank, Jihara, and Mr. Rifshaz. We look forward to our next visit and seeing everyone again before long! As a historic property, guests must embrace the character that comes with an older building, which adds to its charm.
