Guest Reviews
- Valerie (10/5): Green Shades Awesome4cm - Position in the mountains great, lovely gardens, birdsong beautiful. Sanal is an excellent host going above and beyond to help, especially when I left sunglasses in tuk tuk. He arranged an excellent Jeep driver Joby for a day trip into the mountains where I climbed a mountain, saw waterfalls and elephant and more. Hot water not always working
- Reki Roman (9/5): - Sanell was an amazing host
- Mayank (7/5): - Nice ambience ,perfect location ,little bit out of town but not far from different attractions of munnar .Staff was friendly ,overall a good stay. Facilities are not there at all ,don't even have basic stuff like tooth paste or brush in the washroom ,restaurant is not operating although in booking site it is mentioned that they have restaurant ,with my booking breakfast was included free but still we did not get breakfast because restaurant was not operating .
- Thomas (10/5): Parfait - Le balcon au milieu de la foret etait magnifique
Sanal a de bon conseil et très gentil Un peu loin de munnar
- Rohini (8/5): - The property and staff were awesome, but the location was not. The place is just so pretty 🩷 Nothing nearby to eat or go. Since we couldn't get scooty for rent, it was a bit difficult.
- Frederike (7/5): -
- Yana (9/5): -
- vinayak (10/5): Best of best all in one of all versions - Everything Nothing
- Adrianna (10/5): - Ośrodek położony w prawdziwym raju 🥰 można spokojnie obserwować różne ptaki i ogromne wieworki z balkonu.
Manager to złoto — bardzo pomocny, a dodatkowo zabrał nas na spacer po plantacji kardamonu, co było super doświadczeniem!
Śniadania i kolacje przepyszne 😋
Pokoje duże, wygodne i z ciepłą wodą.
Z całego serca polecam każdemu! 👌
- Julia (7/5): The staff made it a great experience. - The staff were absolutely brilliant. Nidhin and Sanal sorted everything out for me - I didn’t need to lift a finger. Staff were the best thing about this place. Also the bedroom was comfortable and you could see the mountain. The kitchen needed work. The fridge didn’t work so my food went off, and there were lots of flies everywhere. The cupboards were old and dirty. Workmen were there every day. Also it’s very far from anywhere, so you need to pay 500 just to get into town. Because of this all excursions were 3000-5000.
- Lorenzo (10/5): -
- Dinsha (7/5): - Nice
- Marta (9/5): Polecam! - Obsługa - cudowna para ludzi - pomocni, uprzejmi!
Lokalizacja - cisza i spokój.
Pyszne jedzenie, na miejscu gotowane.
- Viriato (8/5): Beautiful place, super sweet staff, confi room but no hot shower. - The place is beautiful, staff was amazing, super nice and helpfull! The main point that made me not give an awsome rating is that the shower was only cold water. You could have hot water from a lower tap, fill a bucket and shower with a bucket but for the price they're charging that doesn't seem acceptable to me. I've been in much cheaper hotels in India were hot shower was granted.
- Iqbalahmed7 (9/5): - 1. George is a great host. Really loved staying at the property
2. Santosh ( caretaker) is a true rockstar. He takes care of you and makes you feel at home at all times.
3. The property is quaint and conveniently located near all spots to visit. Located around 10 km from the Munnar town, Green Shades is a true home away from home. The room is nice, well kept and true value for money property
4. Santosh cooked us very nice breakfasts ( included in the package) and evening dinner for all the days we stayed. Ingredients used were all locally grown and sourced.
5. Would definitely recommend the Jeep Safari. Viju ( owner of the Jeep) took us to all the visiting points
Me, my wife and my daughter all enjoyed our stay at Green Shades. 1. There is major road work happening in Munnar leading to a lot of traffic jams and delays
2. Munnar town is very crowded
3. It was raining on all the days we were at Munnar, which was a bit of an inconvenience
3. No issues with the property as such

The location was perfect. Located right next door to the herb and spice gardens with a very informative guide.
Highly recommend. Loved it all

- Nik (10/5): Incredible Stay – A Hidden Gem in Nature - Staying here felt like being in a private resort surrounded by nature. The owner goes above and beyond to make sure you’re comfortable, helping with everything and even organizing an amazing jeep tour and mountain trek for me.
The homemade breakfast and dinner were delicious, and the peaceful atmosphere is perfect if you’re looking to escape the crowds. Just next door is a lovely Spice Garden where you can take a guided tour and buy some of the best spices in India.
If you’re coming to Munnar for nature and genuine hospitality, this place is a must.
- Marion (10/5): Exceptional - The surroundings and nature was fantastic. The sound of birds.
- Naveen (10/5): Great place - I had a fantastic stay at this homestay! The hospitality was top-notch, and the service exceeded all expectations. Every little detail was taken care of, making the experience feel warm and personalized. What truly stood out was the property owner — incredibly welcoming, friendly, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Their genuine care made the stay feel like a home away from home. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and memorable getaway!
- Arianna (10/5): Great choice! - The owner and staff was very nice and really helpful. They really tried to help us and accommodate our needs. It was very clean and comfortable.
- Henry (8/5): Very good - Nice to be surrounded by greenery and nature next to the road to Munnar, we loved seeing the giant squirrels in the cardamon forest behind the property. Joyce went above and beyond to look after us. He went out his way to arrange activities, cook us vegan food, and even helped us book a last minute train. The property is a bit out of the way so you’re quite tied to the property and the things it has to offer. It would be nice to have some places to sit and relax around the lovely grounds.
- Alissa (9/5): Superb - The service we received was impeccable! We absolutely loved the care and the consideration that we received by Joyce. He patiently helped us planning the various activities, suggesting the places to visit and procuring us the pilots, aka the taxis. Every morning he consulted us for what to prepare for dinner and the food was delicious!
The room was great with a big terrace on the cardamom plantation from where we were able to see the giant squirrels climbing the trees around the property.
Absolutely recommend stay!!
- Thomas (10/5): AMAZING place to stay - beautiful property, warm hospitality, amazing food - you must stay here!! - Beautiful garden, amazing food cooked by Krishan - it was truly delicious, warm and welcoming hospitality provided by Joyce, comfortable rooms, peaceful setting not too far from Munnar, very comfortable room - loved the pillows, couldn’t recommend this place more highly! Amazing stay!!! Nothing - it was totally perfect
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - We were so well looked after. So friendly and helpful. It’s heartbreaking that the road close by is being widened. Nothing to do with this property but so sad to see the destruction of nature :(
- Travelling (9/5): Excellent stay - Had a great two night stay here, out of town so lovely and quiet. Beautiful gardens and grounds. Santosh was wonderful and very accommodating, arranging a lovely pork and green banana curry dinner late night after our elephant watching. Meals were great and huge, one curry between two is plenty! Shower pressure was only thing that could be improved.
- Itichai (10/5): Exeptional homestay in the forest of Munnar - Exeptional homestay in the forest of Munnar
This place is not the first choice when we booked homestay in Munnar. However some problem with the first choice booking, we have to find the other homestay only 1 day ahead, Then we found Green Shades. Thank god bringing us to Green Shades
Very quick response when we asked anything before arriving. Sandosh and his team gave us the warm welcome when we arrived and arranged everything during 2 nights stay like day tour(tea garden, waterfall, cave, elephant weatching), Kathikali performances, tuktuk transfer to Munnar town and delicious simple breakfast and dinner.
This homestay is in the forest area beside spice garden, The view from the room is great. The room is good and comfortable.
The owner,George and his wife Sali is very lovely and kindness. Sali bring me to see her own spice garden in her homestay. There are many kind of spices she grow. Sali also welcome us in her own house and give me trying her delicious banana wine.
We have very good memories with Green Shade.
- Tracy (8/5): Overall a great stay. - Passing the owners house you can’t help but admire the beautifully manicured garden. Before reaching the two accommodation blocks.
We had a first floor room that had small balconies on two sides. The room was large airy and bright with a nice bathroom and a large comfy bed all very well maintained and very clean.
Sandosh and his team were great and very welcoming.
The food prepared by Sandosh and his wife was excellent , a different Indian breakfast every morning. Filtered water, tea and coffee always available. A little road noise during the day, generally quiet after 5pm.
Under powered shower.
- Sarah (10/5): Fantastic! - Very comfortable. Beautiful location. Excellent hosts!
- Arpit (9/5): Superb - Location, scenery, nearby spice garden
- Stefanie (10/5): Sandosh was always there for us and accompanied our stay incredibly well - Cosy, very nice and calm place. Staff is so polite helpful and feels like family 🙏delicious food 😋 Nothing
- John (10/5): Green - We booked for 3 nights and stayed for 4! It took a day to settle into the gentle pace here at Green Shades homestay, once we had, we loved it! Owner 'George', Sandhosh and family made us feel very welcome with good food and friendly company. Home grown Fruit and veg , chickens , fresh well water!! Highly recommend booking trips from the homestay, all organised for you. Trekking with Sulva & Shiva revealed the beauty and secrets of the tea plantations and surrounding mountains. Great breakfast on the mountain! Cinnamon Gardens just next door are perfect for an afternoon of learning about local spice plants & Ayurvedic properties, highly knowledgeable guide. Our highlight was Jeep safari with Joby, got to see loads of hidden local gems, Rivers and waterfalls plus wild elephant! He was an excellent guide, taking us for local lunch, and generally being a lovely person! ❤️ Thanks all! Showers were a bit temperamental!
- Shelley (8/5): The surrounding area is so beautiful so on the whole we enjoyed our stay. - The area is very beautiful
The hosts are very friendly and helpful and will help with everything you need. The room was very basic and not so clean. The shower was not so good.
- Fiona (9/5): Superb - Super location. A short tuk-tuk ride to Munnar.
Sandosh looked after each of our group so well, with patience kindness and humour. Having laundry facilities was a real bonus.
Next door to the Cinnamon Gardens - a really interesting and enjoyable tour which should not be skipped Loved everything
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Flora (10/5): Excellent location, close to bus but in nature, but what really made our stay was Santosh! - Beautiful location- especially our room with big balcony overlooking the forest. Very special to see monkeys and giant malaba squirrels whilst sitting on the balcony. Santosh is the best housekeeper- so friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. Great homecooked food by Santosh’s lovely wife. The only thing is that WiFi is not good in our room/balcony. But very good downstairs so it isn’t a problem.
- M. (9/5): Mind calming Munnar. - The location, the greenery ,and the exceptionally warm resort owners ,Mr and Mrs George.
We were four of us.Had a very relaxed 3 days amidst bountiful beauty ,clean rooms and excellent homely food, prepared with lot of love by Santosh the Caretaker.Would love to come back. Thanks Green Shades for making our stay memorable.
- Hila (8/5): Very good -
- David (4/5): Its fine for a night but not my cup a tea - Nice staff who where helpful and the breakfast was tasty. The room was smelly, the sheets where itchy due to only chemical wash instead of water and soap and the wifi was very poor
- Nonika (9/5): Superb - The staff was very polite, the view from the room was lovely, and overall, our stay was great. I would recommend it!
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Srinivas (10/5): Exceptional - No words to describe, all facilities are next level
- Saranjot (9/5): Superb - The property was good and specially the service. Special mention to Santosh, he took care of everything and arranged everything.
- Olivier (10/5): Exceptional - The location is very peaceful. It is a nice property over seeing the forest and plantation . (we had the room with a big terrace) The owner and manager were very kind and very attentive during our stay. We were served a nice breakfast every morning and could order home made dishes for dinner. They were also very helpful in ordering a tuktuk to go around the region if you are not coming with your own vehicle. Great stay with very nice people!
- Pavel (10/5): Excellent relaxing stay in the middle of Jungle nature - Excellent location for nature lovers. The staff and owner are very attentive and friendly. Trips and tours based on interests can be organised by the staff. Food on premises is excellent with personal touch home cooking.
- Abhishek (10/5): Exceptional - The caretaker Santosh Babu was super helpful..
The owner is a very cheerful person and helped us with the trips and routes.
Overall it was an amazing experience..
The property has an mesmerizing view and it's decorated with lots of exotic plantations.
I wish I could give 11/10 for the entire experience.
Highly Recommended.
- Deepak (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debendra (8/5): Very good -
- John (9/5): Relaxing, quiet, convenient, and freindly. - If you choose to go to the Munnar region, its so large that no matter where you stay, you will be some distance away from something. Green Shades is in a beautiful setting and is really quiet. Which is good. Its actually right on the Kochi-Munnar bus route too, literally 30 seconds from ringing the bus bell!
Situated right next to the Cinnamon Gardens Spice experience is good too. We were fortunate enough to have the huge balcony room backing on to the Plantation. Waking up to the beautiful birdsong was really a treat.
George and Sali are very accommodating and friendly. There are many trips they can organise and they don't pressurise you to do so.
Unfortunately for us we were both a little under the weather, physically and literally, to do much around Munnar, which, to be fair, is a beautiful region, so we took opportunity to just relax and read etc. At Green Shades.
We had Breakfast and dinner there. The menu is fair and inexpensive, but limited. That said, if you are there for three days it will be choice enough. Sali has fresh fruit picked from the Plantation.
A point of note... ONE rice and ONE Main dish is enough for 2! Munnar, as a town isn't, unfortunately, up to much. You will find yourself there as a matter of fact though. Its the beautiful are you have come to see, not its hectic hub. That said.. the Chocolate is ace!
- Adem (9/5): Lovely property and staff - Such a lovely building. The homestay is located in a building behind the owner's house. His house is beautiful with so many flowers and plants and so well maintained. The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean.
The host is amazingly friendly and helpful. He helps with anything and everything and is so so happy. His wife then prepares all the food.
The location is on the bus route. TIP- you can get the bus to drop you off right outside the homestay. Ask to be dropped at the cinnamon spice garden. You can also get the bus from here into munnar or directly to kochi or Alleppey. No need for a tuktuk.
The cinnamon spice garden is next door. The staff there are also extremely friendly and helpful. They wait out the front trying to attract drivers into the garden.
Breakfast was ok. It wasn't the best but we had something to eat each morning with Indian breakfast which changed and then bananas, toast and tea or coffee. We also had dinner at the property twice. Veg curry and paneer curry. Menu is limited but homecooked food and big portions for very reasonable price.
There was a water filter machine to fill up water.
WiFi was pretty good. It did drop out a bit.
The view from the balconies was pretty of the mountains and the jungle. Not so much I didn't like but more info for others.
The location is out of town and so you need to get a bus or tuktuk into town which is 30 minutes.
They don't make lunch at the property and nowhere near to get food so make sure you eat when out and about.
You can't rent scooters anymore in munnar due to government rules so you can't get your own wheels to drive around.
The shower didn't work in our room so it's a bucket shower.
Finally the homestay only offers one tour which is a jeep tour. It's about 4500ir which was out of our budget. They didn't have any info on other activities so you will need to source this yourself.
- Alena (10/5): Exceptional - Great accommodation in the middle of a jungle. We loved the peace and the jungle sounds. Right next to the spice garden which we recommend to visit. The staff was very helpful. Santosh helped us with tours and buses. Much recommended place!
- Mahesh (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location, great hospitality, good local food, comfortable stay, cordial owner Mr. George & manager Mr. Satheesh
- Rani (8/5): Very good -
- Yulian (6/5): Good people , bad facilities. - We got a room with ahuge balcony with view to the forest. If you wake up early in the morning you can hear the "all forest voices" - birds and animals.
Sandosh, the house keeper help us a lot and arange all our trips around.
The food his wife cooked was very tastefull. Poor room facilities.
There was a constant feeling of dampness in the room including the bedding of the bed. There was hardly any hot water in the shower, very weak current and bad smells.
- Arun (1/5): I did not stay there as the property canceled the booking with out any prior intimation a few hours before the arrival - Very bad experience Very bad experience
- Jill (10/5): Exceptional - The host went out of his way to make us feel at home and comfortable. Food was excellent and abundant. The views from the balcony are simply outstanding. Will gladly return. The location is outside of Munnar so you will need Motorbike or car to reach there. On the flipside it is nicely quiet.
- Aravind (10/5): Exceptional - Location of the site, staff and rooms was great to spend time.
Caring people in the site .
Best place to get relaxation. Breakfast and dinner must be add in the package ... Because shops are too far.
- Suneeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abdul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harvinder (10/5): Enchanting experience amongst the birds and forest - Wonderful property set amongst the beautiful spice forests of Munnar. Rooms were comfortable, clean and modern. The best thing were the surroundings, being able to see all the different fruit and spices plants. Sandosh gave us a tour of the plants and we ate cinnamon fresh from the bark. If you get up early you can hear the most wonderful bird songs
- Bharathi (10/5): Exceptional - Value for money Clean service
- Jeya (8/5): Overall the stay was very good. - BFand dinner was very good. Santhosh chettan was very friendly and cooperative. It would be better if a clock is provided in the room.
- Bijoy (9/5): Superb - Location is amazing and the host are superb, especially santhosh the care taker is really an amazing person and the homely food they provide on demand was really delicious.
- Vipin (8/5): Very good -
- Lukšaitė (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly and warm staff. Very beautiful garden around.
- Sonia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ashif (9/5): Superb -
- Sophie (7/5): Serene location, basic rooms - Lovely, peaceful location and a good base for our activities in and around Munnar. The next door spice garden is definitly also worth a visit. We were a bit apprehensive having read some reviews about the owner or caretaker having been rude and/or cancelled reservations on the day but fortunately that was not our own experience - Mr Santosh was polite and welcoming, helping us organise a ride when we needed to get somewhere. The only downside is that our room was quite basic and had a bit of a strange smell. Fine if you are mainly going to be out and about during the day but perhaps not ideal if you're looking for a place to rest and recharge. There's no restaurant but you can order home cooked dinner, which was fine.
- Prerana (8/5): Very good -
- Wael (10/5): Amazing place and Staff - Everything was perfect , location, staff especially Mr. Santosh, which made our stay amazing, I also met the owner Mr George with his wife , they are so kind and supportive.
I strongly recommend this place to all.
Thanks to everyone here. Nothing
- Prerana (10/5): Exceptional - Food was awesome and the caretaker had arranged for home cooked kerala style meals We were the only couple in entire property so we felt little unsafe as there was no other group family or couple in yhe property.
- Szonja (10/5): Exceptional - The place has an amazing garden with hundreds of flowers, it was mind blowing, and our private balcony was really the best, we enjoyed so much our time there, just listening the birds and watching the forest around us. The food was great too, I recommend to have a nice dinner there. The people we met were very kind and helpfull. The bedsheet could have been more clean, we found some hair, but they changed it when we asked for a new one. The wifi was not working in the room during our 4 days there. Still we would go again!:)
- Kapil (10/5): Exceptional - There is nothing which you won't like about this property, it exceeds expectations, you are in the lap of nature with all modern facilities. It's located next to the spice plantation which is spanned in acres, we also walked around in the Spice garden, and also purchased a lot of Ayurvedic medicines.
Care taker Santhosh ji is super helpful & he cooks delicious food. Na
- Tanja (8/5): Nice, quiet place to stay - The house is right next to a spice plantation, so we had a beautiful view from our terrace. We were welcomed with open arms from the very lovely host, he was always there to help us and gave us lots of recommendations. His wife prepared such delicious breakfast for us every day. We really loved our stay here. It’s pretty far away from restaurants and shops, nothing is in walkable distance, so you need a scooter or take a Tuktuk or the bus (which does not run frequently) to places. But you can also have dinner at the hotel, which was delicious too.
- Kj (7/5): Good - We like the room and property.room and bathroom very neat and clean.location is obviously easy to access.i think 3000 rs per night is slightly high for a normal peoples.atleast they could have provide a kettle and bottle of waters.
- Jorinde (9/5): Wonderful stay with great food and welcoming host. - We loved our 4 nights here, especially because Sandosh was so kind and helpful. Looking after all our needs and we recommend getting your dinner here too, ( breakfast amazing too!) Nothing, everything was perfect
- Rajeev (7/5): Good -
- Frans (10/5): SHANTOS IS A VERY FRENDLY AND HELPFULL HOST. WE HAD A ROOM WITH A BIG BALCONY AND A FANTASTIC VIEW. - The food was delicious. Nothing
- Sujith (9/5): Peaceful stay surrounded by great ambience - The atmosphere around the stay was awesome. The cardamom plantation and the total flora and fona was beautifully maintained. Broadband network was not working properly
- Khan (2/5): Room rate is over than (Bill amount) according to
booking.com - Nothing special Food rate is too much .one chapatti 20 Rupees.
We had a dispute with the owner and he said there is no room for us
We booked the room in booking.com and they said this doesn't work.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good - Support from Santhosh, nice food Confusion in booking confirmation
- Sathish (9/5): Superb -
- Harivignesh (10/5): Exceptional -
