Guest Reviews
- Rod (9/5): Great weekend break - Great room, lovely historic house, nice to have excellent breakfast included. Huge open fires, friendly, homely feel. Nothing.
- Roberts (9/5): Fantastic destination accommodation. Highly recommend. - Wonderful guest house with roaring fireplaces, comfortable furnishings, fantastic staff, and excellent food offerings for dinner and breakfast.
- Shelley (10/5): Our stay at Peterson’s Winery in Armidale exceeded all expectations of what country comfort and hospitality is all about - The friendly and warm reception and atmosphere.
The delicious food.
The location is beautiful.
The guest house has been respectfully maintained to a high standard in keeping with old world charm, while enjoying the open fire was a real treat. The corrugated road in is due for maintenance, otherwise nothing at all.
- Mark (9/5): -
- Dell (10/5): Grand, private with exceptional service culminating in a wonderful experience! - Private & spacious Nothing
- Elsbeth (9/5): Heerlijke, rustige plek met wijnproeverij en heerlijk eten. Open haard. - Prachtig en heerlijk guesthouse waar je helemaal tot rust komt en ontzorgd wordt.
- Jill (10/5): We had a lovely 2 night stay, it was very comfortable the staff were great, we dined both nights at the property, breakf - The historic house and beautiful setting, log fires and the great hall. Nothing

- Kerry (8/5): -
- William (10/5): Excellent stay and will stay again - Beautiful property with large gracious bedrooms, fabulous dining room and brilliant food, attentive staff and wonderful ambience Nil
- Ivan (9/5): Highly recommended couples getaway. - Dinner and breakfast were both delicious and great value.
Room was very comfortable and quiet.
Complimentary wine tasting was a bonus.
- Weemaes (9/5): Country charm - The Petersons Guesthouse is some 6km from Armidale Town Centre ; it is a large mansion with about 7 rooms for guests. There is no reception, but you press a button and staff comes out.
Our room #2 was "old style", but spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was renovated in white/black tiles with a good shower ; the floor is heated.
Although the Cellar Door was closed, one of the staff came out to give me a quick rundown on their excellent wines and a few sips to try.
In the lounge area they have a couple of open fires, but were reluctant to fire them up until late afternoon ; the place was freezing cold by then, not pleasant to sit and read (once they were lit, it was perfect).
They encourage you to dine in and offer a concise 2- or 3-course menu. We opted for a 2-course at $ 60 pp and did not regret it. Nothing negative to report here : really friendly, personal service, delicious fine cuisine and a complimentary port after. The Petersons Mudgee Shiraz at $ 36 for the bottle was wonderful.
Breakfast is in a light, sunny room ; you fill out your menu the night before and they serve at the specified time - pretty much standard eggs, toast, etc.
Our stay at Petersons was a memorable experience and we regret is was only overnight. We'll have to come back, thank you. Light the open fire early afternoon. Maybe a larger smart TV
- Patricia (10/5): We love this place and always try to stay when we travel to see family. - This property is amazing, gardens are so beautiful. Eating at the restaurant and visiting the cellar door is a must. Nothing
- Rachel (10/5): Beautiful historic guesthouse - Thank you to all the staff at Petersons Armidale who helped make our anniversary so special! We had such a relaxing and comfortable stay, loved the spa bath, and our dinner at the restaurant was delicious!
- Fiona (8/5): Delightful - Hot tub No iron in the room
- Lucie (9/5): -
- Igor AU (10/5): - Amazing place! Fireplace and verandas are excellent. Nice park. Restaurant is 5 out of 5. Make sure you book your table - you'll not be disappointed. Excellent breakfast as well. None.
- Andrew (10/5): A wonderful place to stay... - A wonderful, slightly quirky (in a good way) place to stay! Nothing to fault, and dinner was a highlight and excellent value. Great breakfast as well.
- Scott (10/5): - Dinner was amazing. We requested dairy and gluten free food and our prepared meal was of a high standard Nothing
- Kevin (10/5): An absolutely memorable stay! - Top cooked breakfast in the mornings, exceptional cheese boards in the evening! Great interactions with staff. Leaving….
- Kim Justin (9/5): Amazing location for exclusivity and relaxation. - 1. Relaxing and romantic
2. Exclusivity- only 7 rooms available for booking
3. Free wine tasting (5 each guest)
4. Delicious food/fine dining experience
5.Amazing location, quiet and peaceful. You can even fo Star gazing at night.
6. Accomodating staff
7.breakfast included and served to the table too. 1.The cellar was closed during our stay probably because not much people at the time. Wine tasting is still open though and we had it in the garden instead.
2. There is a big white tent (not sure if permanent) probably for an event (wedding etc) right in front of the hotel which defininetly impacted the amazing view of the guest house.
- Michelle (10/5): Such a wonderful stay, close to town but far enough away to really rest & relax. Lovely staff too. - The whole stay was lovely - from the staff at check in upon arrival, to the room, the grounds and the daily breakfast. There are no improvements I could recommend. It was just lovely. We will be back.
- Julie (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay and will plan to stay longer next visit. An excellent rural five star resort and location. - Beautiful historic heritage estate, with amazing gardens and very quiet surroundings. The accommodation was excellent and very comfortable. The restaurant was a quality dining experience. Nil
- Mike (9/5): -
- Geoffrey (8/5): Charming guesthouse and winery, well worth a visit. - Staff were very attentive, rooms were large, beds comfy, dining room and food was excellent. Shower screen and bedroom curtains were broken, but that’s being pretty picky
- Jason (10/5): -
- Les (10/5): A lovely country retreat - Peaceful location, quiet, private and spacious room.
- Harold David (9/5): Historic guesthouse amongst the vineyards - Lovely old guesthouse ambience
Very comfortable spa room with solid wooden furniture
Full comfort in the bedroom and bathroom
Excellent breakfast included A little tired around the edges but a lovely historical place to stay with great staff and service
- Anders (9/5): Perfect for a relaxing visit with good food and wine - Fantastic location if you want peace and quiet. Very large old style room. Very nice breakfast, dinner and wine!

- David (9/5): -
- Barry (5/5): Disappointing, but it was reasonably priced. We should have realised it was worn out. - Location was lovely. Staff - Ziggy was fantastic The whole place was worn out - no aircon, fan didn’t work in the room, lawns and gardens overgrown and still with net year burst balloons. Ants in bathroom, worn out chairs, the whole place needed a lot of work.
- Barb (10/5): -
- Tim (10/5): Very nice stay - we’ll be back - Beautiful welcoming guest house, lovely meals & staff No dislikes - any issues were quickly resolved and well communicated: we had a big storm on arrival and lost power for a period (approximately 90min) staff kept us informed and provided options for our plans - amazing. As soon as power came back on the staff went into action and we had a fantastic meal & a very comfortable sleep in a beautiful room thank you.
- STCB (9/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- Catherine (8/5): Lovely experience of a country home. - Lovely atmosphere of old world living. Ceiling fan didn’t work.
- Alex (8/5): Great location in a quaint building - Stayed here before. It’s a great location and always feels very comfortable. Provided breakfast albeit basic is good and nice to be able to have a good dinner on site Breakfast could be far better with little effort
- Elizabeth (9/5): A delightful oasis on a long drive. Highly recommended. - We liked the peaceful surroundings but someone who wanted to be in town would not like the location. Of course, a winery is nor likely to be right in town anyway, so one should be forewarned. We loved the very large room and bathroom, sitting on the verandah for a drink and then dinner and the pleasant breakfast room. The food was terrific, as was the Petersons wine and the staff was delightful. Nothing really.
- Megan (9/5): Will do it again - The experience, the charm, friendly staff, the grounds, dinner, the chef asking how the food was, the wine.
- Ken and Janet (9/5): A home away from home 👌 - Breakfast excellent; beautiful location; dinner menu amazing!
- Fay (9/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): -
- Greg (10/5): Friendly, comfortable, happy family get together overnight celebrating with wine tasting, beautiful dinner and and very - Beautiful room, the food, service, cleanliness, good value wine, lovely grounds. Nothing
- Melanie (9/5): Absolute gem in Armidale and we will be back. - The excellent restaurant and complimentary full breakfast. No need to leave the place once you arrived after a long drive. The winery wines on tap are exceptional. The staff are very professional. We received an upgrade on our return trip. Had a few hiccups with the televisions in both rooms. Perhaps some quiet background music or magazines to read in the breakfast room.
- Kuhnell (7/5): Lovely experience, dinner on the verandah was our highlight, breakfast was also a nice experience. Peaceful, quiet and b - Lovely location, well maintained facilities, loved the history of the guesthouse. No air conditioning, absolutely terrible as the ceiling fan and small window was just not enough on a very hot afternoon and night. Made our stay uncomfortable.
Not sure why thick tape was over the PowerPoint in the bathroom?? Out of use perhaps.
Clawfoot bath was lovely but no soap or bath wash available in the room.
This will sound critical but the bath towels were honestly too small and very thin.
Staff were helpful.
- Matthew (7/5): Pleasant short stay at a historical homestead - Lovely heritage house. Great location. Excellent food and wine. Friendly staff. The house lacks some modern amenities and needs some renovation.
- Debra (8/5): Lovely - Heritage ??
- Rowena (10/5): Amazing, well priced and beautiful property. - It was gorgeous the room was massive , the bathroom amazing and the grounds beautiful. The dinner service was a little slow and we were starving. But otherwise great. If you’re vegetarian there weren’t any vego options available for mains.
- ANDREW (10/5): A very special treat - The room was particularly comfortable and well set up with a view into the garden
The hall was a comfortable place to sit and read in peace
The staff were quietly helpful and welcoming
Breakfast was excellent and the room was special looking out into the garden
The three-course dinner was excellent as was the wine
As a treat for ourselves the stay was excellent value
The garden was a good place to walk We expected it to be special and it certainly was
- Michael (8/5): -
- Mark (9/5): Comfortable and relaxing. - The guesthouse had it own restaraunt. The dinning room was superb and classic in keeping with overall charm of a mansion from the 1800's. The food was exceptional. A great place to stay
- Tracey (10/5): - Everything about this lovely Arts & Crafts style property was fantastic. From the initial welcome we felt right at home. Our room was super. Large and airy and with a decent sized en suite. All immaculately clean. We chose to stay for dinner which was an absolute highlight, as was the wine tasting on the verandah. Cannot recommend this property highly enough.
- Sue (10/5): Relaxing atmosphere, great wine, great food, great staff! - Amazing food! Great three course delight! Nothing
- Jill (10/5): Loved it. - The food was outstanding. Loved the personal wine tasting experience. The location was beautiful and our suite was spectacular. The staff were brilliant and very welcoming. They couldn’t have worked harder. Internet access was patchy in our room (not the biggest deal) and I didn’t complain about it. It was ok in some spots. Water pressure in the shower was a little weak, but also not the biggest problem in the world. Well made up for by the supreme facilities.
I’d have liked lactose free dessert options, but that’s being really picky. The food was glorious.
- Lynette (7/5): -
- Martin (9/5): -
- Vicki (9/5): - The staff were amazing- so polite & helpful. The guesthouse was gorgous. Public areas are well maintained & comfortable. Dinner was great both nights.. Room was clean. Easy parking. One curtain was hanging off the rail when we arrived. I stood on a chair to fix it- just needed the 5 or 6 hooks put back on the rail. The pink throw rug across the bottom of the bed was old, very pilled & matted. Wish I had taken a picture. Both minor issues but take away from great first impressions
- Belinda (10/5): - Love staying here very quiet being out of town and just a beautiful property.
- Brad (9/5): -
- Joseph (10/5): Old charm great value great staff home away from home - 2nd time there for a 2 night stay this place has old charm rooms are spacious very comfortable. Dinner is great value daily menu and breakfast both delicious we will book again
- Eik (10/5): -
- James (10/5): -
- Linda (9/5): A great stay, staff were attentive and friendly, dinner menu was great. We would come back! - Beautiful heritage site, oozing charm
- Dominic (10/5): The staff were very friendly and made our 50th anniversary dinner an event to remember. - We loved the beautiful old house and surrounds.
- Karen (7/5): Very quirky! - Delightful historic building. Beautiful countryside and views. Bathrooms dated.
- Alexandra (8/5): Beautiful and romantic - This property is absolutely beautiful well kept and amazing location, staff were super friendly. It can do with a few modern upgrades like a USB connection near bed to recharge phone.
- Soomin (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (8/5): -
- Nigel (10/5): Historical building with beautiful gardens -
- Elisabeth (10/5): An excellent, interesting, beautiful place to stay - We have been at Petersons many times before and, as always, love it. The Dinner was excellent and so was the service. A big thank you to Georgia, she is absolutely lovely, starting with the wine tasting and then the service in the dining room. We had a great time. There was, unfortunately, a mix up at breakfast. At that time there were only 3 tables occupied, but 3 times the wrong drinks and food were served to the wrong people, the couple next to us did not get what they ordered and neither did we. We don't know if the mix up was in the kitchen or by the young woman serving that morning. However, eventually we all had a tasty breakfast.
Having said that, it will not stop us from going back to Petersons, that's for sure.
- Phil (10/5): - The accommodation and food was excellent The wifi didnt work in room 6
- Hannu (9/5): Fine dining with rooms in countryside "homestead" - We are from Europe. For us this place was not an ordinary B&B, but a fine dining restaurant with guest rooms (because the location is in countryside and otherwise difficult the get guests). We booked this place because of this "fine dinig with rooms" concept and we were satisfied.
- Michele (8/5): Lovely big room, peaceful grounds, and a wonderful restaurant on site. A very relaxing stay! -
- Pamela (10/5): Fabulous getaway - This is our second stay and was as wonderful as the first. Beautiful location and fabulous food. Nikki the chef, catered to my dietary requirements brilliantly.
- Rex (10/5): Impressive - If you're ever in this area of NSW, you need to stay here. One of the iconic homesteads, a true masterpiece of the era. It is absolutely beautiful and steeped in history. When I was booking, I checked it was the same wine company as one of my favourites in the Hunter. It is, and it carries most of their wines. The food was fantastic and affordable for the quality and offered wines on their menu at the cellar door price, which was nice. The staff was great, and the grounds were exquisite. Visit nearby Uralla and Armidale, which are fantastic communities. Nothing
- Clive (9/5): memorable stay - Lovely location, very large comfortable room, big bed and very good food all at a good price. The grounds could do with a bit of tidying up
- JW (9/5): - The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The accommodation was comfortable.
The breakfast was great, and dinner was delightful. N/A
- Dominic (10/5): - The staff, wine, food, accommodation were excellent. In other words everything was fantastic. Nothing
- Brian (10/5): - A luxury stay. The host went above and beyond for us. Nothing
- Katharine (10/5): Beautiful country setting - Great room, comfortable bed, beautiful setting and gardens; great restaurant on site. Nothing too much for the friendly staff ( shout out to Sarah). Lovely stay here and I would come back. N/A
- Alex (8/5): Great stay, great staff will be back - Fantastic location, nice grounds and great staff. We were blown away that the chef did a specific vegetarian menu for us and the food was delicious. The wine tasting on arrival was also a nice touch Disappointed that they didn’t do local beers to compliment their wines
- George (8/5): We enjoyed our stay - The excellent bathroom with underfloor heating The drive had big potholes and there was some rubbish close by
- James (9/5): Great getaway destination. Loved it. - Ambiance. Historic country elegance. Ceiling fan wasn’t working though temporary pedestal fan was supplied.
- Jaroslav (9/5): A gorgeous spot to stay in Amidale - The grounds of the property are beautiful and the old home full of lovely details. We arrived and rolled into. Wine tasting on the lawn - just what we needed after a long a long trip. Then dinner and breakfast on site meant we didn’t have to move. It was perfect. Sarah was an amazing on woman band! Thanks for looking after us. Need to offer proper coffee!
- beverley (10/5): A beautiful quite place to relax in food wine all exceptional. Than you! - Everything! There was no negatives. This is our second stay we will be back!
