Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): - clean room and clean facilities. Enjoy the stay at this place.
- William (4/5): - The young gentleman at the desk was very helpful. However, even though folks in the ajoining room were talking at a normal volume, they kept us awake. Also, when they used their toilet we could hear them pee, burp, etc.. The shower ran out of hot water and the breakfast area ran out of coffee. We'll never come back.
- Larrymalone@msn (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable. Quiet. Safe. I will stay there next holiday to Hood River
- Jamie (8/5): - Pillows need to be replaced, they are really flat and old. Other than that it was great.
- Manita (10/5): - Easy access walking to downtown, in a good neighborhood. Felt safe , comfortable, and the breakfast provided is good and substantial.
- nelson (6/5): - Odd room - obviously a former office - but the bed was comfortable. Obnoxious hallway lighting was left on all night, which shone through the window on our door, not cool
- ROSIE (6/5): - So, it was late when we got in. It was great to have a bathroom but with no tub, sink or mirror.
The worst was no washcloth's.
Hand soap was empty
NO TV.
Did ageee to get the room early for us
Nice food the following morning.
- Mary (10/5): - Excellent, great air conditioning . Excellent, great air conditioning , Excellent, great air conditioning .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Expedia told me 3-8pm check-in, but signage at the site said 4-9pm. I was not expecting the additional delay after a day on the water, but Tim was nice enough to let me check-in a bit early despite the sticky misinformation from the travel site.
- Edward (2/5): the rudest staff i ever dealt with - the way I was treated I will not be making any type of reservations or staying there ever again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Horrible manager/owner. Would never recommend this place to anybody
- Faye (6/5): - 房間跟廁所沒有鎖怪怪的....
不過使用空間很大,員工也很親切
當天是開車過去,有免費停車,附近也有超市很方便
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was not build as a hotel, may be as school? For one night it was fine. People running it were great!
- Kurt (6/5): Adequate place to stay - The room and location fitted with my needs. The staff seemed a bit confused when I arrived since I had called an hour before. The room was fine, but hallway light traveled through a window in the door. This was disrupting to sleep.
- Kim (8/5): Simple and Just What I Needed - I was in town for a conference and needed a place to stay for the night. I didn't need any bells and whistles and this place was a perfect place to get a good night's rest. I received a very warm greeting when I arrived and was given a quick tour. The room was simple with a bed, night stand, lamp, table and chairs, and a coat hanger. There were two bathrooms across the hall from me; one equipped with a shower. The water temperature ran a little too cool for my comfort. Not sure if this is from a master temperature setting or if they ran out of hot water? I was up and about around 6am on Saturday morning and there was hot coffee and a delicious frittata awaiting in the dining area with fresh fruit, yogurt, milk, and cereal. Overall I would recommend Hood River Hostel if you need a place to lay your head while you adventure around Hood River.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Sleeping in an office - I found the hotel as all other Motels were booked out at the time of my stay. The building is a one level building which seems to have been a storage or office building. My room was tiny small and had a glas door (no window) to the outside. They put the bed in front of the door so it seemed like a window at first. The walls are anything but soundproof, the ailes and the lobby is a total mess. Boxes, laundry, tools, bike, etc. In the room the ceiling is like in an office with matching lamps. I have never felt so uncomfortable. Seems that prices in Hood River are sometimes as high that the owner can ask for so much money for such a room.
- Frank (8/5): Nice but basic, very friendly staff - As a hostel it can not compare with a hotel. The room had no own bathroom, there was no furniture past the bed, a nightstand and a coathanger. It was very clean, the room was large. The breakfast was good and due to the solar eclipse the staff was up really early to provide breakfast.
- Shirley (8/5): Comfortable relaxed site - Very large room with pvt. Bath/toilet, excellent breakfasts with eggs, muffins, yogurt, fruit and granola/cereal. Laundry available onsite. Managers very helpful and welcoming. No TV, wifi available. Some noise, nice deck, kitchen/fridge access.
- S (8/5): had the big room, close to safeway, highway QUIET! - It's a very quiet, spacious, comfortable place with a very friendly service with shared, clean showers
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Definitely worth it. Dorm-style room was roomie, clean, and comfortable.
- Rosalind (10/5): - This is a Hostel, not a Hotel for those reading reviews expecting to hear about a hotel. That said, it is the "Club Med" of hostels. Large space, very quiet, very clean, stress-free, respectful guests, wonderful and friendly owners, good food, good coffee and tea. There is an amazing view of Mt. Adams from the deck. The deck is huge and a good place to have breakfast and read. The women's dorm has its own bathroom and shower. The hostel is located in a less touristy, quiet part of Hood River. Again, a very stress-free, relaxed environment. I will always stay here when in Hood River which is an amazing little town for people who enjoy outdoor adventures.
- thomas (8/5): - no apparent management
the wi-fi is extremely spotty
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hardly anyone around, but who I met was very nice. Stayed in women's dorm. No lock on front door or dorm door would have left me uneasy if all alone. Spacious and great breakfast!
- Cherry (8/5): Great but unclear info and questionable pricing!! - This place was a great stop along the Gorge, however the issue was the price and the website. The room is about $40 less on Sunday than it was when we paid on Saturday night. That's a lot!!! And even on the following Sat. night (Easter weekend), it is $25 less than we paid last night. That doesn't seem appropriate!! Also, it is not super clear that at $141 a night, the bathroom is a walk down the public hallway. The website could be clearer, such as: bathrooms are outside the room, down the hall. They do state 'shared accommodations' but that can be interpreted many ways. Our room was private except for the bathroom and single shower, shared with others. The facility was clean, the breakfast was ample, and the room we rented was very comfortable and spacious. The front desk attendant wasn't present when we left, so we couldn't ask about the pricing, and since it was booked online, the funds were already sent to hostel.
- Thomas (8/5): Clean and friendly - I ended up getting placed in the 8-bed dorm even though I had reserved and paid for a single room, but had the room all to myself. Not being able to regulate the heat, I was fortunate to sleep next to a window that opened. There was homemade food at breakfast and a nice variety. In this place it seems natural to make acquaintances with others, which was very pleasant. The staff was great. It felt more like home than a motel room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient - Pretty good stay. Stayed in the men's dorm some of the outlets didn't work but was still a lovely place and a good price
- Benjamin (10/5): Modern, Clean, and Affordable - Terrific experience and great host. The room was spacious with everything you would need. Breakfast in the morning was simple but very tasty. Perfect way to get your morning started before exploring Hood River or the Columbia River Gorge. Will definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Get a hotel not this hostel - This was one of my worst experiences staying somewhere. The people running the place were extremely loud on Saturday morning. The kitchen wasn't far from our room so we heard everything through paper thin walls. In the continental breakfast there was supposed to fritata on the weekend, there wasn't. Breakfast was oatmeal from Walmart, cereal, bagels, and some subpar homemade muffins. Staff barely noticed we were around. We also didn't notice anyone else staying there. The window in our room was actually a door that was unlocked making the room even colder than it already was. Bed was nice but if that's the only thing going for a place that's not really worth it. I wouldn't stay here again or recommend it to people. For a few more dollars I could have stayed in a hotel that would have been significantly more comfortable than this place.
- herve (10/5): Great hostel in hood river area - I was travelling on my own and decided to book in this hostel. I was expecting to share a room but they provided me a private room.
The place was very clean and quiet. The staff ws very nice.
Continental breakfast was provided and was very good.
Overall i was blown away by the quality. In fact, much better than average hotel.
- Amber (10/5): Clean & Convenient - The 8 person dorm was very clean and spacious and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Also, breakfast was so peaceful on the large patio overlooking the mountain. =)
- Verified traveler (8/5): great stay - Great place to stay when traveling in a party of one or group of women or men. Hostel staff very friendly and helpful. Hostel kept very clean and comfortable. Great view of the mountains from the patio. would stay again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - They canceled our reservation when we were traveling out of state and didn't bother to notify us our room was given to somebody else. The hotel had 4 weeks to do this but didn't feel it was necessary even though every other hotel was book up for a wedding that day. They never answer the phone on the website and you have to wait for them to call you back later in the day because they were "busy checking people in". I trued reaching them over six separate times with no luck.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Less expensive place to stay
- The hostel was very quiet and clean. We had a private room with a king bed and bathroom with shower. The room itself was huge.
- Lou (10/5): Fantastic hostel!!! - 1st time staying in a hostel. I had clean, very comfortable place to stay and plenty to eat for breakfast. And it was quieter than staying in a hotel. I recommend this hostel highly if you are looking for an economical place to spend the night. This hostel met my expectations and then some.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice & Friendly Hostel - The staff at the hostel were very welcoming and accommodating, the facilities were nice and the complimentary breakfast in the morning was really good. Great place to stay if you are traveling in the area.
- Verified traveler (2/5): never again - Never will go back old daycare still looks like it inside unsafe
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and stylish . - We had never stayed at a hostel so the experience was interesting with community living . Very clean and modern and nice space .
- Dennis (2/5): Not a hotel . A scam . Should not be on Hotels.com - No bath room no shower no tv no way lock the door. In room. You had to go down the hall to use bath room. Had a community shower for every one down the hall full of hair nasty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect place to lay down for the night - Condition:
Clean and has a "home" like feel to it. However, there was stuff lying around here and there, because they were still organizing and arranging things. It's nothing that will actually affect you though.
Cleanliness:
For the most part it was all nice and clean. I'm not sure the usual policy for a hostel but in the shower there was a shaving razor and used bar soap. Again, nothing that'll actually affect you.
Service:
The staff acutally lives on site and was very helpful and accomodating.
Overall:
So this was the cheapest place I could find for the night. It had everything I needed: shower, bed, and an AC outlet. It's not the fanciest place I've stayed in, but a few things wrong here and there (still organizing) never bothered me.
- Lisa (10/5): Hood River Hostel - Had a wonderful stay. Best deal in town. No muss, no fuss
- Verified traveler (6/5): If you're traveling alone - A laid back atmosphere in exchange for a little disorganization & snoring was worth it.
- AJax (10/5): I'd visit again - We were warmly greeted the moment we arrived, and that friendliness continued for the remainder our short stay. The woman's shared room had about 10 beds (no bunk beds, all single beds) in it and they were relatively comfortable, typical hostel set up. Breakfast looked good, but I had other morning plans. The coffee is always on and tastes pretty good! Only travel suggestion would be to bring ear plugs in case there's a snorer in your room, which is a general risk of staying in hostels.
We went to 4 breweries in town: Full Sail, Pfriem, Double Mountain, and Big Horse Brewery. We caught the last free tour at Full Sail @4pm and got a free glass at the end of it. Ordered a flight and the hummus plate- which was amazing! Pfriem had very unique and flavorful beer, and their food was pretty good too, the waterfront park in front was a great place to relax and enjoy the river. Double Mountain had the best beers in my opinion, however we didn't order food here. Big Horse was also a good contender for beer and also had amazing food!
For breakfast we went to Doppio Cafe and I ordered an iced Americano and their veggie bagel (hummus, tomato, cucumber slices, and sprouts) and it was so good!! I ended up buying a bag of their House Blend coffee beans to take home. We also visited the local ice cream shop called Mike's and I got the pistachio almond, delicious, of course. We got our hiking on down at Tamanawas Falls, and loved it! Great trip!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good budget-priced accommodation in Hood River - (I'm rating the Hood River Hostel against my expectations for a hostel, not a higher-priced hotel or motel. Hostels typically offer dormitory accommodations, with common areas for TV-watching / eating. You don't get the privacy you would in a hotel or motel, but on the other hand you have excellent opportunity to socialize with others.)
I found the Hood River Hostel to be an excellent hostel - a good place to stay for short or long stays.
The owners (who live in the facility as well) were personable and helpful - they went out of their way to ensure my comfort and satisfaction.
The hostel building appears quite new. I understand it had been built as an office but was repurposed as a hostel a couple years ago.
The hostel was clean and well-maintained.
The male and female dorm rooms are spacious and have eight beds each (separate single beds, not bunks). I believe there are a couple private rooms as well, available for a higher charge.
The common room includes a TV (with access to Amazon and Netflix for movies) and seating for breakfast.
The hostel offered a good breakfast (coffee / tea / juice, eggs, cereal, bagels).
