Guest Reviews
- Jacobus (8/5): - A bit unusual to not have a front desk but it all worked surprisingly well. Nice complimentary breakfast and excellent room cleaning.
- Jennifer (8/5): Beware: no elevator/great local/clean - Lovely hotel, very clean. Great location with lots of restaurants, bars and clubs around.
The only drawback was that I was on the 3rd floor, in a perfect room, but I didn't know that there was no elevator and I had a 50 lb bag. Lugging it up all those flights of stairs did terrible things to my back and arm.
But other than THAT, perfect room.
Also, breakfast is provided and light. Snack bars, yogurt, water and coffee.
- Kathleen (8/5): - Great location and very friendly staff!!
- Nicholas (10/5): - As a solo traveler who doesn't need much, this was prefect. Self-check in was easy and convenient
- Denis (10/5): - Location was perfect in front of theatre St Denis. It was clean quiet and had great snacks.
- Monique (10/5): - Available amenities exceeded expectation
- Spencer (2/5): - This place scammed me big time! They don’t tell you in the ad it backs onto a Mexican restaurant that blasts music into your room for 12 hours a day. I spent $900 on this space for a quiet place to work for the week and I could barely even spend any time there because of the noise. Horrible experience - will never stay here again
- David (8/5): - Everything worked pretty well. While I would prefer on site parking and an on site staff person, things worked out pretty well.
- Chris (10/5): - Location location location. Was skeptical after the sale but all was good at our last visit.
- ROBERT (8/5): - The lack of presence in the office was a negative. There is a reliance on an automatically locking front door which didn't work correctly at one point during our stay. Fortunately when we called to report it it was fixed the next day.
It was a very convenient location for the jazz festival, just over a 10 minute walk.
- Lori (10/5): Le Relais Lyonnais, Montreal - Went to Montreal for the F1 race. This place was comfortable and quiet. It is located about 4 min walk from Berri-UQAM station, with public transportation to most everywhere. The neighborhood was quite nice and kept-up with many restaurants to eat at. Le Cafe Big Trouble, about 10 min walk, was wonderfully yummy. The owner was very pleasant. The only neg part of stay was several burnt-out bulbs, making the place dark. Fix that and 10/10!

- Chris (8/5): - Property is well located and transportation in the area is easily accessible. The rooms are a good size and clean but a little tired. The noise from the street and the rear of the building is surprisingly loud. Nice staff. Breakfast is a buffett of fruit and pre-packaged products.
- Thomas (10/5): - outstanding trip. i picked this property based on some searching and it turned out to be a total gem. highly recommend.
- Palli (10/5): - Very thoughtfully put together room, lots of amenities and the.bed was very comfortable.
- kimia (10/5): - Great location and super friendly hosts
- Michael (10/5): Excelent Hotel - Having stayed in a variety of hotels in many countries over the past 20 years, I can say with credible certainty that this hotel was among the very best. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and what made it even better was its location in the heart of the city. The host was very friendly and our room nicely furnished with all the necessary amenities. We highly recommend it.
- Jean-Marie (10/5): - It will be our favourite Montréal hotel
- Marina (10/5): - Everything was at the highest level. Alberto thank you for your service. I recommend this hotel. Parking and breakfast are free - a huge bonus to the beautiful city of Montreal.😁👍
- Christian (10/5): Très propre et chaleureux - Très bien ! Proche de tout! Vieille hotel coté rustique avec un beau côté nouveau
Lit confortable ! Très propre
Et que dire de l accueil chaleureux ! Merci infiniment
- peggy (10/5): - Loved my three nights here. Great location to walkn around downtown and old Montreal. Liveky neighborhood and great restos right around the hotel. Gorgeous, cozy and spacious suite.
- COLIN (10/5): Small Hotel with Nice Rooms in a Vibrant Area - I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this property. It's a small hotel with generously-sized rooms--at least my room was quite generously sized. Conveniently located near lots of restaurants and within easy walking distance of major attractions in most directions. The lobby area is quite small and the presence of staff minimal, but when I did interact with them they were extremely helpful, particularly in terms of getting my checked in efficiently and making great recommendations for excellent places to eat.
- Verified traveler (6/5): There are better options - Keep searching. There are better hotels in the area.
The location of this hotel is pretty great; just a block away from the busiest metro station and right on a bustling street with lots of restaurants. Stay here if that’s literally all that matters to you.
But you can find better options if you’re willing to walk a couple blocks. The room itself feels quite dated. The flimsy particleboard furniture was showing its age, the room had an odd smell, and the air conditioner (which we only ran to try to get rid of the smell) felt like it was on us last legs. In general, the room looked far worse than shown in the photos and didn’t feel very comfortable to be in. I know expectations are different for independent hotels in major cities like Montreal, but this one felt subpar even by those standards.
- Patrick (10/5): - It's cozy, it's nice,
- Shelley (10/5): - Lovely and clean. Right in the heart of where you want to be. Couldn't have been happier.
- james (10/5): - We found the hotel building inside and out very charming. Albert was very welcoming, helpful, friendly and shared about the neighborhood, city, and restaurants. His enthusiasm really made our stay memorable. The location of the hotel was very convenient to walking to the Old City and to other places.
The music outside was sometimes loud until very late at night. We'll return!
- Dan (8/5): - Great location !
- David (10/5): - My stay at Le Relais Lyonnais was amazing!! The hotel’s prime location in Montreal’s Quartier Latin meant there were tons of restaurants close by and a quick walk to the Metro to get around the city. The in/out parking privileges were easy and convenient, the attentiveness to keeping the room clean was incredible, and hospitality services made me feel welcome and right at home. It was a great place to stay during the Just for Laughs festival. Can’t wait to return!
- Matthew (10/5): - I can’t say enough good things about this property, my wife and I loved it! The owner, Albert, greeted us when we arrived, and was super friendly, knowledgeable, and suggested places nearby to visit. Before we arrived, he contacted us via text and gave us directions for parking, which was nearby, secure, and covered.
The hotel is in a wonderful location with lots of restaurants and some shops very nearby and in walking distance. You’re only about a 15 minute walk from downtown or a 20 minute walk from old Port. There is lots of fun activities going on in the streets when we visited in July.
We loved our stay in this property and would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat. Much thanks to Albert for a wonderful stay!
- DEANNA (10/5): - Nice room and super friendly staff.
- Lee (8/5): - I stayed at Le Relais Lyonnais by myself, in March 2023. It's a old house in a "transitional" neighborhood that leans slightly toward "hipster" area--but not quite. You're in a university district, so there are lots of cafes around (a plus for me!). There's not a lot of activity in the day or the evening--but keep in mind that I was there mid-winter.
The hotel itself is "okay;" it's very basic, just a room to stay in with a bathroom. It's not terrible, and it's not great. But it was pretty reasonably priced.
There are issues to keep in mind: The rooms and overall building are a bit grungy. You must climb narrow, steep steps to access the front door, and to get to the upper floors. I like a hotel with at least one public space where you can go to be around people, but there's nothing like that here. The front desk has limited hours, so you tell them your arrival time. Just remember, it's basic and minimalist, so think about your needs.
- Maureen (8/5): - Quiet, clean, comfortable in a great location steps away from the Metro. Several dining options on the block
- Dave (10/5): - Albert was absolutely fantastic, very accommodating and knowledgeable on area
- Peter (10/5): - Great stay close to public transit and entertainment/eating. Clean, comfortable room.
- Sylvia (10/5): - Best location possible in the Quartier Latin. Truly the heart of all. This hotel was AMAZING, from the welcome by Mr. Albert to every detail in the room. We adored it and we'll be back here!!!!
- Shyan (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff, very comfortable (albeit modest) room, remarkably quiet despite being on busy St. Denis on a Saturday night. Would stay here again.
- Heather (10/5): - A charming property! We had 24 hours in Montreal after a weeklong vacation in Mexico, and booked Le Relais Lyonnais for its proximity to excellent dining and entertainment options. The room was comfy and clean and the hotel has such personality, but the star of the show is Albert at the reception desk. He touched base before we arrived via text to confirm our arrival time, and was helpful, knowledgeable, and personable throughout our stay. My new favourite place to stay in Montreal! 10/10, will return.
- DAVID (10/5): - Had a fantastic stay. Clean and quiet. Checkin with Albert was super easy and fast. Albert was very friendly and helpful. Steps to the Metro station. A variety of restaurants within walking distance. Would definitely stay at Le Relais Lyonnais again.
- Madina (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay at the Le Relais Lyonnais. The staff were very helpful, provided all necessary details to park our car, ensure we can check in on our own after regular check in hours. The room was in an excellent condition, and despite the busy neighborhood it was overall quiet. This will definitely be our go to hotel in Montreal going forward.
- Valentin (10/5): - A boutique hotel in the heart of the Latin neighborhood of Montreal. Very fashion and stylish. Albert is an amazing host.
- Sebastian (10/5): - Great service
- Peter (10/5): - Cozy
- Rowan (10/5): - What stood out was the very friendly and helpful owner - he helped with all our bags as we were carrying two sleeping children, amazingly helpful and responsive, thank you!
- Chrisovalantou (10/5): - Amazing location! Steps from so many dining and shopping options and walkable to some of Montreal’s best sights. The room was spacious and clean and the hotel host was wonderful.
- Maya (10/5): - We had such an incredible time at this hotel. It was perfect for our time in Montreal and located in a great area. The front desk was so helpful and helped answer all of our questions and helped us with parking. Would definitely stay here again.
- Zach (10/5): - Incroyable! Thank you so much for the great stay. We really enjoyed our time. The host was so kind and welcoming; he made our stay that much more enjoyable. He even let us check in early! We look forward to staying here again.
- Amy (10/5): very comfortable and cozy. nice location. - Lovely people, lovely room with adjoining living room. Very comfortable bed, roomy nice bathroom. Warm and inviting and quiet. Very convenient location. Not quite downtown but central.
- Sarah (10/5): - Comfortable, clean, very friendly. Great location. Very reasonably priced.
- Erin (10/5): - Beautiful boutique hotel. If you like old world charm, natural wood, but still modern and clean, this will please. The room was very spacious, bed very comfortable. Rue St. Denis is very "happening" and close to everything. Albert, the proprietor was very friendly and responsive. Will definitely return.
- Dylan (10/5): - Cute little hotel! Staff was friendly and helpful, right next to the metro, HUGE rooms for this price point. Would stay again.
- Ira (10/5): - Warm and welcoming reception. Comfortable and convenient. We’ll be back!
- Tyler (10/5): - Great location surrounded by many restaurants and bars. A short walk to Old Montreal and L'Olympia venue. Although it's a busy spot, it was quiet inside the hotel. I was contacted before checkin with instructions on where to park. Very easy and helpful. The room was beautiful and spacious.
- Peter (10/5): - This hotel is fantastic. Albert is amazingly helpful and attentive. Parking was easy and cheap coordinated by the hotel just a couple blocks from the place. Rooms are well appointed, spacious, comfortable and clean. Area around the hotel is fun and lively-super safe and convenient to Old Port, Centre-Ville, and Gay Village. I will definitely be staying at this hotel next time I visit Montreal. I cannot state enough what a great experience staying here was, just wish I could've stayed longer!!
- T (6/5): - Good location in the middle of rue Ste Denis.
- Helena (10/5): - Excellent location, clean and comfortable hotel with attentive staff. Highly recommended!
- Linda (8/5): - Albert the owner is a fantastic host for the hotel and Montreal.
- William (10/5): - Very nice rooms. Great location with so many restaurants and shops nearby
- Karim (10/5): - Location is prime, restaurants Round hotel are awesome, room clean and nicely designed, shower is awesome ! The staff is outstanding and Jose was great in customer service and very personable. I will definitely return to Relais lyonnais if in Montreal !
- ben (10/5): - Great pace to stay!
- david (10/5): In the middle of the action! - Great location , very well kept place. Make sure you don’t plan to sleep early as you are right on top of a busy bar. Other than that 😀,exceptionally nice!!
- Nicola (10/5): - Friendly staff, clean modern rooms and great location
- Val (10/5): - This boutique hotel is a gem! Right in the heart of Montreal, minutes away from all the sights and the Metro hub. It is clean and comfortable. Albert is kind and responsive. I loved it!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very Disappointed - My husband and I travel a lot and book hotels based on customer reviews. We disagree with the very high rating of this hotel. Our room had a musty smell which we traced to the a/c unit. The room appeared clean at first glance but after more inspection the room is in need of a deep clean. There was a pair of dirty socks in the closet which we suspect were left behind by a previous occupant. There was a thick layer of dust on the baseboards as well as the area next to the nightstand where the power cords are plugged in. The neighborhood is sketchy! We witnessed a drug transaction in front of the cafe we were sent to for breakfast. It does seem like a hipster area with many restaurants and definitely a local hang out. Location is very convenient to the subway if that is important to you. The one exception of our stay was that the desk employee was very friendly and accommodating.
- Wenbo (10/5): - Excellent quality with low price
- Sangeeta (10/5): - Absolutely best service and incredible location!
- George (10/5): - Joseph was the only staff member I met and he was fantastic, he bent over backwards to give us directions and got us through the construction zones. even meeting us a few blocks away to get us to the proper parking lot. Then he gave us suggestions for dinner and made reservations. Joseph could not have been more helpful,
Thanks Joseph.
The room was big and clean and located on a street with bars and restaurants. Great location.
This will be my go to hotel in Montreal. What a great find.
- Angelo (10/5): - Very clean, well kept . Close to many restaurants
- Jean-Francois (6/5): - Well located, staff nice. INTERNET TERRIBLE. Since the TV depends on it, nothing worked.
- Evgeny (10/5): - Great location, very nice room (we had suite). But keep in mind it can be loud at night - music in the bars around is quite noisy and penetrates the windows. Not a bother for me, though
- Tammy (10/5): - Great location and wonderful people who greeted us.
Tammy :)
- Nurin (10/5): - Albert was so wonderful before and during our stay. He messaged before we even left to confirm our arrival time and upon arriving he greeted us with a big smile and not only had our room ready for early check in, but upgraded us just out of sheer kindness. He made the stay so wonderful and was available to give us recommendations for places to eat and hang out for our short trip. I was so happy we chose to stay there. His hotel was so nice and his kindness made the stay even better than imagined. Thank you Albert!
- cindy (10/5): - Very pleasant. Hotel is clean and comfortable and staff were very friendly & accommodating.

- Vandana (10/5): - Great service!
- Elisa (10/5): - The location of this hotel is a lively street that is full of dining options and a very short walk to an underground parking garage with unlimited entry. The owners communicated well before our arrival and during our stay. The room was upgraded to a suite at no extra cost to us! It was impeccably clean and had a coffee station, refrigerator, bathrobes, and shampoo/conditioner/lotion. We will definitely return!
- Maria (10/5): - Absolutely perfect courtesy, service was impeccable, great and safe area, decent priced. I recommend it!
- ruta (10/5): - Location, size, terrasse
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place, would stay again anytime.

- Verified traveler (10/5): excellent! - the host here was amazingly kind:)

iI'd like to stay here if I visit Montreal again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - host was great, property was very clean, and cozy. Was also a great location!
- Rebecca (8/5): - Good location to Metro, dining and Old Town, good easy parking. Walk up and on the small side, gracious staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great small hotel, I love the Japanese meet modern 40s style vibe of the rooms. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Surprisingly quiet considering that is located in the middle of the action in St Denis
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good value. Stayed in the suite and the room was very big and clean!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful setting, nespresso and water bottles in room, nice staff
- Peter (10/5): Very comfortable - Very comfortable. Great value for the price. Perfect location for visiting the Montreal Documentary Film Festival
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really friendly and attentive staff. Good location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very comfortable bed. Excellent staff. Very well maintained property. Feels more like a bed and breakfast with many personal touches and attention to detail but without communal breakfast. However, the breakfast provided was excellent and the rooms also include an espresso machine and refrigerator. Location is excellent, with dozens of cuisine options right outside the front door. The only downside is that if you are a light sleeper you probably should purchase earplugs so that you are not awakened by the street noise in the area at night.
- Shirley (10/5): Amazing place ! - Great place ! We loved everything about it! And to top it off, personnel was so so pleasant and helpful ! I will definatly return. I recommend this place 100%.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel, the room, and the service exceeded my expectations. Great location, friendly service, safe, lovely environment. The owner, Albert was friendly and helpful. His recommendations were on the money. I highly recommend Le Relais Lyonnais.
- Sean (10/5): - Quaint boutique hotel in a great location on rue St-Denis. I checked in after hours, with no issues. Great communication from Albert. Breakfast at door in the morning was great touch. Room was quiet and very clean. Metro station very close, as are assortment of restaurants, cafes and brew pubs.
- Craig (10/5): Awesome hotel - Awesome property in the heart of the city. The owner is super friendly and was able to give us great recommendations, and every morning you get a basket of fresh croissants and other pastries. I’d stay again in a heartbeat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5): - My room was very clean and quiet which I greatly appreciated. The hotel is well situated as you can walk everywhere from there. The public areas of the hotel, however, are a bit shabby (carpet on stairs needs to be replaced and the paint has been marked by peoples' luggage). The continental breakfast is OK, but I have had much better pastries. I
think the one thing I would have liked to have known before deciding to stay here is that the front desk is not staffed most of the time - on at least 3 ocassions during the day I rang the bell at the front desk (to get a parking pass) and no one ever responded; I finally left them a note. There are two telephone numbers provided in case of emergency but I think next time I'll stay in a larger property, or go full Air BnB where i wouldn't expect staff to be present.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful greeting on reception helpful, patient, cheerful. The room was large, clean and comfortable, the location was ideal for being at the hub of quirkiness, bars restaurants all around,
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location on Rue St. Denis, 0.5 mile walk to Old Montreal, which was great. Lots of cafes, etc. on St. Denis.
- guy (10/5): Could not be more impressed. - What a great little hotel. Comfortable, clean room, friendly staff, very accommodating.
