• Toni (8/5): nice place, close to the harbour - I felt like a naughty kid for turning up early, but the guy who runs it was very nice. good selection for continental breakfast and an easy walk to everything in town. owner even offered to run us down to the ferry
• Verified traveler (6/5): - We had a twin room which was the smallest in the hotel even though we had booked many months previously. The manager did not agree to us changing to the larger lighter room next door. We discovered we had booked earlier than most so it should have been agreed. We are two ladies of a particular age and size. The bathroom drains smelled and were right next to the bed I was in. The shower was dripping so I put a flannel on the floor so it did not keep me awake through the night. The bathroom was tiny like the room. The breakfast was excellent. The owners outside our request to change rooms were polite.

• Ann (4/5): Not comfortable - The bed was terrible. no support, and it creaked every time you rolled over. Badly needs replacing but i know there are new owners and they are making improvements.

Breakfast is included in the stay and is self service in the kitchen area. Other than check in I never saw the host/proprietor which some people may find a little unsociable; on the other hand some people may like.

The dining room had a great view, the table linen was pristine and the breakfast was great. The lodge is centrally located, the only down side can be the limited parking, but there is parking on the street, so advise to get there early.

Can hear people in other rooms around you and has very very basic amenities. Probably the smallest TV & bed I have seen for a while. Host is super frendly though.

• aj (6/5): - really good for a one-night stop in Picton to catch the ferry to North Island. I stayed three nights and had to request room servicing after second day, it did not happen by default. Hotel is older and a tad sad, but it is clean and breakfast is great. good way to meet other travellers as well.
• Judy (8/5): Nice facilities - The woman in charge was delightful. Breakfast very nice as was the dining room/kitchen/lounge. The only thing that let it down was the bed. It was very very uncomfortable. The mattress was appalling with large hollows in it. We talked to the woman in charge who said that she had told the owner about it before and a new mattress was supposed to be forthcoming. We would definitely stay there again...but would check first to make sure the mattress had been changed or we got a different roo.

Room 6 wIndow at ground floor opened onto narrow driveway of adjoining apartment building - anyone walking up the driveway could have reached right in to shake hands or worse. There was no air circulation. Window blinds need replacement. Heard strange noises in the walls throughout the night.

Mattresses on both beds need to be replaced immediately- totally past their comfort date! Inadequate space for two suitcases. Breakfast satisfactory and guests expected to wash plates and cups.

There were two windows that could be opened but allowed no cross-ventallation. The room was like an oven, cooling only after about 9:30 pm . The simple act of having a fan available in the room would have done wonders.

With Expedia help, they connected me with property and was given instruction to check myself in. Clean breezy night after 3 hours ride on the boat from North Island, Picton such a lovely town. I loved the charm of the property and their CB help yourself ... very appealing and lovely setting. Enjoy your next stay.
• Teresa (10/5): Homely feel - When we arrived we were treated by the beautiful lady who was so friendly. Dellas (apologies if misspelt) was very welcoming & showed us where we would be sleeping. Dellas then let us settle in for the night but before she did asked us what time we would like breakfast as we were her only guests that night. After a good night's sleep we woke up & breakfast was waiting for us in the dinning room. This palace really felt like home, it had a nice fire when we arrived & everything. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. This place is also close to the ferry which is a 2min drive, how good is that.

• Chris (8/5): Characterful Bed & Breakfast Hotel - The Admiral's Lodge is a small comfortable hotel very close to Picton town centre with shops, harbour and several restaurants close by. It is a short walk (perhaps 15 minutes) from the Interislander ferry terminal and situated on a road that is not busy or noisy. I found it very easily with the aid of a map but the helpful i-Site is on he way if a map cannot be brought. My ensuite room was at the back of the hotel and overlooked a small garden. Everything was spotless and included tea making facilities and free wifi. The room is not modern and bang up to date but that is one of the charms of the place. Neither can the hotel be described as 'tired'. When I arrived the owner had to be summoned from her room elsewhere but she arrived with alacrity, friendliness and efficiency. Out of hours the main entrance is locked but there is an alternative operated by a keypad. There is no cooked breakfast but there is a plentiful supply of cereals, fruit and toast and the owner was happy to prepare it earlier than usual for those of us who needed ro catch a bus first thingin the morning. Next time I am in Picton, I would be happy to repeat the experience.

I would recommend the location which seemed to be occupied by those getting off the ferry or returning to Wellington. Well located and easy to access free parking.

Breakfast room was very pleasant with high ceilings and lovely windows letting in the sunshine. Best part was the Manager who took time to give us excellent travel tips for the south island!

Dellis the manager sent me an email with the code to the front door so I could get in. She also turned on the heater in my room so it wouldn't be cold when I arrived. The room was clean as was the entire facility. In the morning, Dellis introduced herself to me and was friendly. Being a traveler, she gave me an overview of the island and directions in where I was going. Thanks to Dellis I had a good experience on the South Island.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Easy walk - The accommadation was very good and an easy walk to the shops and beach area. Our room was quiet and the continental breakfast was great.
• Cleonie (10/5): Right in the middle of town. - Excellent location - can walk everywhere - to the supermarket so you can cook in your room. Even though it was right at peak time Christmas and a lot of people were about it was very quiet, extremely modern and clean. Excellent owners as they really made sure you were comfortable and went out of their way to let us know great places to visit and eat at.

• Emily (6/5): if only more time - Due to our travel schedule, we arrived late and left early. This hotel was adorable, and I wish we could have stayed long enough to at least partake in the complimentary breakfast! Super sweet place, just didn't get to stay long enough to enjoy it.
