Guest Reviews
- Brandon (10/5): - A lovely little retreat, close to wineries and resorts. Very quiet, tranquil location, even saw a couple of kangaroos!
- susan (4/5): - Badly maintained. No tv service (remote batteries corroded), unable to get Wi-Fi even the password would not work. The air cond was noisy and was emitting bad smell of dampness and Mould smell. The ramp is in the process of rotting out. Stain marks of cushions and quilt cover, one cushion looks like a mouse started chewing on it. No one to meet you upon arrival. Bathroom fan and hairdryer have a buildup of crap, not a healthy look. Biggest issue was no tags on any of the appliance to comply with safety. Will not stay there again, no maintenance done on property, a very big shame as it probably once a good place. Watch the hot poles entering the so call resort.
- Jenny (4/5): - Don’t waste your money here. Walked in, not a soul to be found. Yards and gardens were overgrown and buildings very run down. The room was dirty, unwashed poo stains on bedding and other suspect stains on lounge and pillows. Dirty toilet and kitchen. Got in the phone and told them it’s gross and we wouldn’t be staying. I was told they’d organise a refund. Still waiting a week and a half later ( and yes I made a follow up phone call). Should be shut down.
- Nimisha (10/5): - Good property.. Well maintained
- Bernhard (6/5): - Would not recommend to others but would go back myself. Like camping. Cost is high for what you get. Kangaroos running around.
Clear glass lets stranger look into the shower and toilet. Needs frosted glass. Highlight windows have no curtains so full light at dawn. TV was not set up properly when we arrived. I had to fiddle with the cables to find the right connections. Worked eventually to our relief.
- Greg (6/5): - Great view and location. Unfortunately its not only quite rundown (TV and eifi didnt work) its also barely cleaned at all from previous people. At least there were clean sheets, thats the best i can say. Tolerable only for 2 nights.
- Alison (8/5): - Neat and tidy for our overnight stay. Comfortable bed, nice size room. Convent location not far from most places without the high price tag.
- Justine (8/5): - The place was actually really nice, but it could definitely do with a good clean before guests arrive. The cups were all stained, the screen door didn’t close or lock fully and there were cobwebs around the windows and at the seating on the veranda. The TV didn’t work and the batteries were all rusted. If the little things were fixed and cleaned, it would have got a 5 star rating.
- Ken (4/5): - There were various bugs/inspects in the beds, benches, drawers. Cups were particularly dirty (didn't look washed at all). The fact some windows wouldn't close completely and didn't have fly-wire screens probably contributed to the bugs.
- glenn (4/5): - Stayed 08-11-24 to 10-11-24
I did not look at the reviews till we got there
FAULTY TOWERS experience with no one on site
This place needs a massive update to fix all the faulty problems and a good clean in every room
to bring this place up to scratch
- Brian (8/5): - Quiet
- Andrew (10/5): - Arrived late and in dark. Signage to various cottages would have been of great assistance. Older built accommodation but clean tidy comfortable and well appointed.
- Peter (6/5): - This place could be amazing. However, a lack of maintenance and upkeep lets it down badly. The property is off the main road and the first sign is hidden behind a shrub. When you arrive, the rooms are hard to find because there are no signs to the different rooms. On arrival, we had to ring the manager (there is no reception on site) to find out which was our allocated room - they were unaware of our booking because they hadnt checked their booking system for half a day. once we found the room, we found that the sliding glass dorr could not be locked - had a bodgy metal plate with a pin lock but it was out of alignment. Paint peeling, dirty cushions on the lounge, a toilet that takes 2 minutes to refill in the middle of the night, noisy air con, grounds generally not mowed - not sure what the collection of junk was in the enclosure below the pool. Alsynite sheeting blowing off one room nearby. So much potential but clearly no interest from the management / owner to develop that potential or to even tidy the rooms up a little. So sad to see such a great place falling apart through a lack of care.
- Stephen (6/5): - We couldn't get the Tv to work and the property was bit run down but the accommodation while old was clean and tidy and the beds were comfortable so as a place to stay while traveling it was fine
- Kim (4/5): - Spiders and cobwebs everywhere. Bath towels ripped with holes. I would recommended not advertising this place through Expedia. Needs a lot of work and maintenance and should be shut down if can’t operate properly
- Ananta (6/5): Cute and cosy - The location of the resort was amazing and the views from the cottage is breathtaking. Also, the close proximity of the city centre and nearby attractions is an added advantage. However, the place itself was slightly worn down. We noticed that it wasnt thoroughly cleaned when we arrived. The sheets had been changed and that was pretty much it. We enjoyed our stay there; however a quick vaccum and mopping before would have been even nicer. Overall, it is budget friendly and in a perfect location.
- peter (4/5): - Broken power point, could not tune tv ,screen door would not close on deck door, walls patched up not painted very tired property
- RAJKUMAR (4/5): - It appeared. Did not feel that the linen were freshly cleaned. The room even did not have a wardrobe to hang clothes. TV did not work.
- Blake (10/5): - Floor mats would be good inside when taininf
- Michael (8/5): - It would have been great in it's hay day,20 or so years ago.
- quang (8/5): - It was quaint
- Alecia (4/5): - Overall, the property was tired and unkept. The cleanliness of the room was unsatisfactory.
The sofa bed had hair and other dirt on it and old food underneath. We all slept in the bed instead. There was a lot of dirt on the floor. There were exposed wires on the lamp and broken globe. The fly screen would not close on the deck and door to the deck did not lock. Positives were the location, which was great and the size and comfort of the bed. Although there were no staff on site at all, staff were contactable by phone and polite.
- Dawn (6/5): - Stayed here being the only room in the Hunter available for The Killers concert. It was a good price reflective of the accomodation, and the location is good. If you’re expecting luxury, it’s not for you, but for a reasonable well-priced bed that you can book for 1 night only (usually a 2 night min. in the Hunter), it serves a purpose. A few simple things would make all the difference - the sofa bed wasn’t useable, a clean tea towel (it was very well used and not by us!) and a Jay cloth to wash up, and an outdoor light that worked when coming back at midnight post-concert in the pitch black. The reception team were friendly and efficient in the correspondence I had and the room was ready on arrival with easy key-in-door check in.
- Joe (10/5): - Like up roof n close pool
There’s weed around pool should’ve clean
The rest beautiful country
- Helene (8/5): - Outlook beautiful
- Cindy (8/5): - Beautiful Area. Check in and out very easy
- Doomara (2/5): - The place needs a lot of TLC. It seem neglected. However has so much potential if looked after. The pictures are misleading
- Andrew (6/5): - Nice views, nice bed, nice unit.
No teaspoons, holes in gauze door/windows, internet password didn't work, broken/aged/dilapidated outdoor furniture
- Carissa (8/5): - Simple and effective. It would be a great group getaway
- Ian (4/5): - Very run down, no cooktop in kitchen, very cold with a suspected lack of insulation, and lighting was woeful at night. No decent overhead light in the main area. Not worth the money paid for it
- Tony (4/5): - The boardwalk to our cabin wasn't secure and moved....our cabin smelt ....couldn't regulate the temperature of the air con....everything dated....couldn't watch Netflix kept buffering.....not happy
- Laura (8/5): - The surroundings were beautiful and peaceful. Location was great. There were no staff or a lock box to drop the keys off at checkout time. There were cob webs and spiders in the room. The balcony was rotted and needed attention. There was no soap or tissues in the room.
- Janelle (8/5): - Was very affordable and a convenient location for our short stay
- Damian (8/5): - Right in amongst the wineries, but with a lovely bush view. It was perfect for me!
- Geoff (8/5): - A nice place to stay for an overnight stay while visiting the wineries
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Did not attend....because of lockdown restrictions
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The view was nice
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very old style
some items not working and they had to come fix it. The balcony was dirty
- David (6/5): Just Run Down - It was the only room available in the entire Hunter Valley over Queens Birthday weekend and it became apparent why.
Just quite run down in the rooms with flaking paintwork and patchy walls.
No breakfast available as we were told had the family over and was cooking just for them!!
Property was becoming unsightly with no care in looking tidy. Keep going this way and I fear it will be gone soon.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room was clean. The staff were friendly.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Mould growing on sides and top of fridge door - rubber seals. Rice grains caught in handles of kitchen. Picked up basket of tea/coffee items to use and sultanas fell out. VERY superficial clean. Can’t block out light.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I wish I had read recent reviews before booking. Where to start?
The accommodation is run down, floating floor is not fixed down firmly, bathroom looks tired. Three mismatched wine glasses, but thankfully the kettle worked.
So very glad that our friends couldn’t stay with us. THIS IS NOT A 2 BEDROOM UNIT. Yes, there were two double beds but with loft ceilings and only two metre high partitions there was no privacy between bedrooms or between the bedrooms and the living space.
Didn’t see any staff at all during our stay (4pm Saturday to 10am Sunday). Had to phone to get directions to the cabin. No restaurant or cafe on site, thankfully we had dinner booking and were close to breakfast options.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Basic accommodation was clean. Not to a very high standard in terms of accommodation venues
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This is the most dirty and run down place I’ve ever been to. They should not legally be allowed to call this a resort! We arrived to a locked up reception area at 4pm, when we called they said they left us the key on the cabin door and sent us on a little goose chase with their terrible directions to the cabin. The cabin itself was shocking, the couches were filthy, most surfaces stained, and spiders everywhere. The bathroom window is low and completely see through so anyone over 150cm can’t have privacy in the shower. The shower floor was taped-down Lino. The second “double bed” was actually a pull out couch in the living room which we had to make up ourselves. 5 minutes into sleeping there my daughter was itching all over (bed bugs!)
The whole space is one big room with half walls put up to make “bedrooms.” This means that any lights turned on/ conversation in one room can be seen/ heard in every other room.
Too many safety issues to note here.
There is no restaurant / bar or amenities of any sort that would make this place a “resort.”
The only positive... we only had to stay one night. It was so dirty we decided to forego breakfast there in the morning and went out for brekkie instead. On checking out there was no one in reception again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff friendly
Accommodation great value
Great surroundings
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property would have been more aptly called Vineyard Hill Cabins. We were greeted by Kangaroos upon arrival. The outlook was lovely with Country Vista. The accommodation was very basic and in need of refurbishments. The bed was clean and comfortable. The shower floor was lino lined which curled at the edges with a strip of wallpaper like tile feature which was peeling off the shower wall. The room needed a good clean of dust and cobwebs (Spiders). The sliding door leading to the balcony was rusted and difficult to open/close. It was ok for an overnight stay.
- Consuelo (6/5): - There was a dead fly over the bed's frame. Looks a bit abandoned and old.
The location is good. Very quiet and peaceful
- Alejandro (4/5): - Not a resort at all, the pictures showed something different, we will never come back
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not clean. Tomato sauce on our outdoor table, all sorts of fluff and crumbs on the couch. Hairs on bathroom floor. We decided not to even use the shower. Webs and daddy long legs on 3 different corners of the room. Property is run down. Needs so much love. Apparently there are new owners. I wish them well to get this place looking great. We stayed in the hunter valley a few weeks ago and paid less for 5 star accom. This is over priced and should close down to reopen once Reno’s are complete.
- Gillian (8/5): Good accomodation - Room was nice although could have been cleaner (lounge had crumbs on it, soap scum in soap dish - which was odd as there was a soap dispenser). Door to balcony was very stiff and difficult to open. Looked a little unkept on the way in.
Bed large and very comfortable. Adequate air con. Plenty of room.
Overall good.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The place was very run down and dangerous in some areas due to this. In desperate need of maintenance and care. Room had stuff in it from the previous people. The lady that works there is lovely.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This place has the potential to be a great place to stay but unfortunately the accommodation is run down, in need of a good clean and refurb.
- TheFamily (4/5): - Photos are deceiving. 2 bedroom apartment was actually one large room with dividers. Bathroom window was clear so Little privacy. Not enough blankets and enough cutlery for 2. BBQ on the patio didn’t have a gas bottle and one fry pan to try and cook meals for 6 people . Bed had hair within the sheets and not just one strand ,under the sofa bed had not been cleaned in a while so once set up there was a large area of dust, dirt and other collected crap on the floor. Hot tub was covered up , pool was fairly dirty . Neither looked like they had been used recently. No room keeping. Expected to come back to the bin empty and clean towels (as with every other place we have stayed ) but the room was untouched. Fridge must of been turned on just before we arrived so there was no cold milk or drinks for the morning as it took all night to cool . To top it off no wifi so copped it off my teenage son for 3 days. The lady that took my payment and gave me the keys was nice and the kids loved the kangaroos outside . They are the only positives I have .we didn’t see another person in sight the entire stay I couldn’t wait for our 3 days to be up I felt like I was staying at camp crystal lake . Apologies to the owners for this review but it’s honest I was not happy at all
- Damo (4/5): - When we arrived toilet was not working nor did our unit have hot water. We were not informed of this upon check in. Bathroom was very unclean as well
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The people greeting us were very nice and pleasant. The property is old, the flooring is uneven, the floor was dirty, the shower unusable. The property needs significant investment.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Location is pretty good and the cottages are very cute, however, the property is showing it’s age and some proper maintenance needs to be done to the outside areas.
Inside the cottage is okay. Bathroom has strange DIY lino in the bath. Water went cold then HOT. Beds, however, are comfortable and clean. It has the bare minimum of equipment in the kitchen.
Would probably stay elsewhere next time.
- Jeanne (8/5): - Friendly staff, comfortable rooms- great place for a relaxing break!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Booked for five and only had 4 beds. Deck was rotten and had no roof or cover. Very dated accomodation and zero facilities.
Very disappointing with the place
- Verified traveler (6/5): Queen room, clean but very run down. - Very basic room, clean but could do with a lot of maintenance. Water cut out halfway through shower and sliding door very hard to open.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful location, rooms are tired but still comfortable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not enough blankets so cold
My husband is tall so difficult to get around loft. The open bathroom was not to our liking
- Verified traveler (8/5): Value for money - Really lovely cottage with two rooms, comfortable beds. The only shame is the bedroom walls are open at the top, so the sound travels all through the cottage. Very affordable for the hunter!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The word 'resort' is rather misleading for this well-worn cluster of cottages. While our cottage was clean enough and had heating and kitchen facilities, we had booked a sofa bed so we could sleep separately and they didn't provide any bedding for it. I didn't realise there was no bedding provided for the sofa bed until after the office had shut at 6pm, so we had to end up sleeping together in the queen bed, which was terribly lumpy and uncomfortable. They definitely need new mattresses and better provision of bedding. Very basic accommodation but if you're looking for something cheap, it may suit.
- Philip (8/5): Too Easy! - Very convenient location. Great size 2 bedroom unit with all the facilities we could want. Check in was friendly, fast and efficient, as was the checkout. Would happily stay here again or recommend to friends and family.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was clean and tidyAnd I would stay there again and recommend it to other people the price was right
- Verified traveler (2/5): - DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!
This is without doubt the WORST hotel i have ever stayed in. The rooms are filthy, the bed was filthy with pubic hairs and sand on the sheets.
The bathroom was filthy, toilet bowl was black.
The shower had no water and the hand basin water was cold.
The heating did not work and the temperature was -3.
Returning from a wedding at 10:30 pm,The lock on my door was jammed and I was unable to get in my room, there wad no staff on site and everywhere was in completed darkness.
When i used the contact number from Expedia, the woman who answered struggled to understand my problem and I had to wait 90 minutes for help in the freezing cold.
Shame on Expedia for recommending this terrible place!!!!!
- Donovan (8/5): A little disappointed - We were impressed that they accommodated our early check-in, but we were a little disappointed with the state (ie. cleanliness) of the room. It was very dusty, and the couch was to dirty to feel comfortable sitting on.... there were spiders in webs in the room, and the door to the balcony would not slide. For the price of the room we were expecting a little bit more. Unfortunately, we don't think we will be staying there again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Need to buckle up their socks - Very very run down property, isolated and unpleasant stay overall. There are cob webs and spider eggs in the villas. This showed that the property is not well maintained. Air conditioner was not working properly especially in summer with a scorching temp of almost 40 degrees.
- Graham (4/5): - This place is run down. Communication with the owners was a challenge. They know how to charge and process the payment, but do not know anything about their surroundings, local services or attractions. There are signs in the kitchenette requesting guests to wash all plates before leaving, problem is, there were no plates. There was no sharp knife, and only one other bread and butter knife. Coffee cups needed to be washed before we could use them. Bed was comfortable and linen clean. Price ‘vs’ facilities ratio - not good.
- Ton (4/5): - Kitchen is very old and most of wine glasses are plastic. Water pressure is not stable.
- John (6/5): - Good location, rooms are aged and need some renovation. Sliding door to the deck was nearly impossible to be open. Bed was very comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cosy little loft - The room is very very cosy, especially with the bathroom being so open! Totally ok for either one person or for a couple who have been together for a while and past that awkward stage, not recommended for a very first away trip together! But it was cute. Nice and peaceful, no traffic noise.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Definitely overpriced for the condition it’s in. - Lots of debris & boxes etc laying about everywhere. Room wasn’t clean, we weren’t game to use the bathroom! Had to wash up all glasses & cutlery etc as they were dirty inside the cupboards. Definitely too expensive for the condition of “resort”.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Needs to be revamped
Great bed and view.
A decesnt clean and would be awesome.
- Megan (8/5): - Basic accomodation but clean and tidy. Poor water pressure and limited tv options but a great rural retreat in a nice setting.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Very disappointing. The accommodation had not been cleaned recently, the floors were dirty, there was a layer of dust on every surface and the bathroom was filthy. The television did not work, and the towels had a damp musty smell. The sheets were clean and the view was lovely, but the grounds were unkempt and the reception staff were nowhere to be seen after check-in. I would not recommend Vineyard Hill to anyone.
- Renee (10/5): Clean amenities. Great place to stay 😀 - Was at Harry Potter Convention. Was closeby. Excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were accommodative to my requests. Nothing was too much trouble.
Room itself was comfortable and had everything I needed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): close to the vineyards and restaurants - comfortable and value for money close to vineyards and restaurants
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nice staff but poorly presented accommodation - Appearance of the ‘resort’ is different to impression given from photos. Our room was not clean (floors dirty, dusty surfaces, bathroom very neglected) when we arrived but reception had closed early so were unable to notify anyone. One positive was they did refund our second night when we decided to cut short our stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Room cleanliness - The villa is very dusty. We don't seem to be able to get ried of it.
