- Thierno (6/5): Ok but that's about it - As a frequent traveler with extensive experience across hotels in Dar es Salaam, I recently stayed at Harbour View Suites following a last-minute flight cancellation. My visit lasted only one night, which may limit the scope of my assessment, but certain impressions were clear. I had booked through Hotels.com and upon arrival was told the hotel was fully booked. For a moment, I was almost relieved, as the reception area was rather uninspiring and lacked the appeal one would expect from a hotel in this category. Eventually, I was given a room, possibly because payment had already been processed, but the experience did not set a reassuring tone. Once upstairs, the atmosphere changed slightly. The corridors and room areas were noticeably better maintained, and the room itself was clean and functional. For a one-night stay, it was adequate. However, it is not the kind of hotel that invites a return. While the basics were covered, there was nothing particularly compelling in terms of comfort, service, or overall ambience. In a city like Dar es Salaam, where I have stayed in numerous hotels, Harbour View Suites would not rank among my preferred options. I would place it around 6 to 7 out of 10. It serves its purpose in a pinch but falls short of delivering a memorable or satisfying experience.

- Todd (10/5): Great downtown location - Good hotel in the middle of Dar es Salaam. We walked to a city tour which was very fascinating. Hotel provided timely airport transfer for a fee, room were nice and service was outstanding. Nice harbor view from breakfast.

- Jill (8/5): Great place and service in the city center. - We were picked up at the airport exactly as described. The porter escorted us to the 11th floor reception and everyone was very helpful. In fact the porter walked us to the ferry office to get our tickets for the next day. This was early above and beyond customer service. We ate at the restaurant and the food was OK and prices reasonable. Unfortunately the windows were quite dirty, so we couldn’t fully enjoy the view of the harbor. While Dar es Salaam is working hard to improve the city, it has a long way to go. We were hoping to take a walk and that just wasn’t possible without being hassled. The hotel did everything they could to reduce that experience but there is only so much they could do. If I needed to stay in the city center, I would stay there.

- Salim (10/5): Good value - Very large executive room with beautiful sea view. Staff very helpful. Internet code log in keeps changing but staff were responsive. Location was brilliant- centre down town The only downside was the breakfast was average
- Katee (8/5): Dirty Hotel - The room I was initially given was smelly with dirty towels and linen. So the front desk clerk moved me. That room was also dirty so he moved me yet again to a room this time that had no towels. Then they moved me to the 15th floor, where it seemed to be a different hotel. The room was more modern, clean, and the view was awesome. Judging by all the other guests on my floor it appears management reserves the better rooms for Asians/Indians. I personally would not stay at the facility again.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable and convenient - Room was clean and spacious. It is very conveniently located, around 200m from the ferry station to Zanzibar. Only downside was that the AC was a little cold but other than that would recommend staying at Harbour View Suites and would stay again!

- Darwin (10/5): - Best…Room…Ever (of hotels Ove stayed in past 25 y in Tanzania). Chose the Superior Room when booking, which was a fantastic bargain, even at one of the more expensive hotels in Dar. Also added breakfast, which included omelette made to order and good variety of food. Room was huge, with whirlpool, 2 sinks, fridge, and decent/quiet A/C. On ground floor is a casino (which we avoided) and a decent restaurant with huge variety of food (which we relished). Main drawback was they don’t seem to wash the windows outside often; because Dar is dusty in general, the dirt outside the glass hindered the beautiful view.

- Suresh (6/5): Stay was disappointing - The hotel was undergoing renovation. They haven’t given the room key also. Every time I have to call the receptionist to assist for opening the door. They have only one master card to open the guest doors.

- Ferdinand (8/5): Excellent hotel with wonderful view on the sea - Harbour View Suites is a pleasant hotel to stay. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Ingot a bigger room with a beautiful view on the sea. Breakfast is fine; not special but adequate with friendly cook who makes tasty Spanish omelet and staff who prepares good tea. Below, at the back, is a nice restaurant with a good menu with food from different continents. Check in went super fast, but checkout bit less as it too more than 15 minutes to get my invoice due to extremely slow restart of their system; staff remained calm. This needs to be addressed by the owners to buy faster computers. I will for sure come back next time.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location - The hotel is near the harbour and in a busy side of town. Most places are easily accessible and you get to walk around the town. It’s on a busy street and no street parking so catching a cab means a short walk to the next block. Wonderful sized rooms and quite comfortable. No robs or house slippers (not good). Breakfast is good with a local flare (very good). I recommend.
- Ray (2/5): Terrible Hotel - Front desk gave me an envelope containing my invoice and change from a cash payment that included no change when opening the envelope while being driven to the airport. After waiting forty mi it’s for drinks from the bar after polite reminders, our gin and tonic actually contained no gin then a cash payment was demanded rather than signing the drinks to a room account. No representation between images of rooms and the actual rooms. Eating here is a food hygiene adventure. The Grand Restaurant in the ground floor shopping mall is a much better, friendlier and health safer option. As I often say when with people whom are not over familiar with travelling on the continent ‘welcome to Africa’ Convenient for the ferry port, better hotels in the CBD.

We did not like the "crazy" elevator system, different banks going to different floors, confusing. We did not have hot water in our room. Very annoying not able to shower after a long trip. The staff attempted to fix it without success. Finally they let us take a shower in a different room. Very inconvenient. They call the hotel Harbour View, the only view we had from the room was a bank of Air Conditioning units. Very disappointing. My wife said we should stay in a different place next time.

One issue: when I got to my room, it was as hot as a sauna and took forever to cool down. One compliment: the shuttle is super - clean, modern vehicle and a very service oriented driver. One bit of precision: there’s no actual harbour view from the rooms at the Harbour View Hotel.

Breakfast was nice, and they were happy to help me get ferry tickets and keep my luggage for my jaunt to Zanzibar.

- Verified traveler (6/5): I have seen worse but it could be better... - I arrived close to midnight but was assigned a “bad” room despite booking more than 48 hours in advance. Luckily the concierge did not even allow me to enter the “bad” room- up to now I don’t know what was in that room! My new room was just ok except for a very strong bad smell in the bathroom. Thought the pipe traps in the shower or sink need serious cleaning or upgrading l. I was too tired to complain just needed a bed to pass out on. Good facilities but need better handling and management. Overpriced unless services improve.

- Verified traveler (2/5): - I booked this hotel through Expedia. When I tried to arrange a shuttle with the hotel, they refused because they said they did not have my reservation on file. I gave them the Expedia number and asked if they would send a shuttle and I would resolve the issue when I arrived and they still refused to help. When I finally arrived after finding my own transportation, they were able to find my reservation. The front desk staff was not friendly or helpful at all though and did not apologize for all the confusion and inconvenience. The guy also made a big deal about me being alone. After I got to the room, I realized I left my phone in the lobby. I called down and the front desk person told me it was not there and I should check my bags. After confirming it was not in my bags, I walked down to the lobby to find it sitting right in front of the desk. The guy just couldn't be bothered to look 3 feet away to see the phone. My room also had a door that could be opened into an adjoining room, after I was back from the front desk, I heard the door on the other side of mine open loudly several times. This combined with the other experiences and the front desk worker making a lot of comments about me being alone made me very uncomfortable and I ended up leaving and finding other accommodations. Both Expedia and Harbour View refused to refund my money. I do NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

- Verified traveler (4/5): Not great, at all. - No sure what to expect in Dar el Salaam but this hotel was super rundown. The room was mugggy hot and smelly when we checked in and old and tired. Bed was like a rock. The shower had no water pressure and was impossible to adjust tempature so as not to be scalding hot. And no hairdryer and outlets only behind the nightstands (can you say inconvenient?). Air conditioner only worked in bedroom (once we finally cranked it on) but not in the other “living room” - which you wouldn’t want to spend time in anyway. Expensive for what you get.
- Juliana (10/5): Excellent place to stay while in Dar es Salaam - We were in a suite which was very comfortable and spacious. The kitchenette area was awesome, it had all the basic needs. The breakfast was always fresh and a variety of different foods to choose from. There is a nice swimming pool and also a balcony where you can enjoy the view of the Dar es Salaam Harbor as the sun rises.

- Nadir (10/5): Great Location - Close to everything. - WOW!!!!!!!!! What a beautiful resort. It is definitely a 4 Plus Star. My wife and myself were there for first 3 days of our vacation and last 3 days of vacation, were just amazed at the service and quality of food on the Hotel. From the moment we checked in we were treated like VIP and this continued for the remainder of the days we were there. The quality and choice of food is excellent. We wish we could have stayed there longer. The staff were very friendly and so willing to accommodate any request that we had. The pool is fantastic. We watched the beautiful sunset every day from our room facing the harbour . We would recommend this Hotel to anyone and will be definitely going back next year again and again and again. Christine, The Operational Manager was Fantastic . She went out of her way to upgrade our room and late check out.
- Elaine (10/5): Close to Zanzibar Ferry - Great place to be after a week on wildlife safari in rustic lodges. This modern hotel is very comfortable and had a large city vibe. We wanted a hotel close to ferry as we were off early in the morning. I highly recommend this hotel for people used to modern hotels found in big cities in US. Our room was spacious, clean and welcomed after we came in from a 13 hour drive from Ruaha. We appreciated the promise of an escort from the hotel to the ferry for the two block walk.

- Verified traveler (4/5): Dated Decor - I selected this hotel primarily for its supposed close proximity to the airport and harbour. In peak hour traffic, evening or early morning what should be a 15-20 minute drive actually takes one hour. The young driver that collected me from the airport by far was the most professional of anyone I encountered at the hotel and provided a wifi connection and water once in the car. Hotel checkin was conducted by a very grumpy man, who proceeded to put me in a room which didn’t match the booking description. I purposely booked and paid extra for a room with a view and balcony so I could get some fresh air, However I was put in a two bedroom apartment with no view due to ‘renovation works.’ If this had been made clearer to me at the time of booking I would have stayed at a hotel closer to the airport which would have been a) cheaper, b) saved me money in transit costs. The manager overheard me complaining and reduced the cost of the airport transfers however I still feel completely misinformed. The hotel room whilst clean is dated in terms of decor but I suspect typical of accommodation in Dar es Salaam. The location of lifts is important to note as the hotel shares the building with commercial tenants and has its own set of lifts which are at the opposite end to the rooms which can make navigating tricky. I suspect if you are staying for business then this would be a good hotel centrally located, however for airport transfers, not so much.

- Trudy (8/5): Good hotel for overnight stay - We stayed as an overnight guest for stopover on way to safari. Accommodation was clean and comfortable, restaurant and bar area were good. Balcony overlooking harbour was nice for afternoon drinks. Position in central cbd, and easy access from airport. A good overnight choice if you must visit Dar es Salaam.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Notify guests of the mosquito spraying on arrival - Hotel was average. Sheets had holes in them and the rugs were very dirty. The hotel should notify guests that they spray the rooms every evening for mosquitos. I was ill the first 3 days because of the chemicals used to spray the room. Had I known they spray, I would have immediately opted out of the service.

Our room had a musty stink in the main room but the bedrooms were fine. Air con worked well. Breakfast was a typical hotel breakfast, nothing amazing and nothing terrible. We had one night in Dar before heading to he Cosst and this was a fine choice.

Commitment to customer service had no boundaries either within the facility or outside. The General Manager, IPYANA MWAKAMELA worked beyond his regular duties to help us after we were attacked by robbers. I could not ask for anything more.

Sadly, the construction of a new - even bigger - hotel complex has somewhat diminished the 'Harbour View', but it is still within sight. Regrettably, that also generates construction noise, but this could probably be said across most of the city.
