Guest Reviews
- Tessa (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, lovely family run guesthouse, comfy bed and good shower No complaints
- Gust-frenger (8/5): very nice stay, extremely nice host. - Very nice service, chatted with host, very friendly and helpful, e.g. arranged for trip to railway station, flexible with checking out time, stored bags, etc. Wonderful location close to the river, nice traditional house. room did not have windows, but that was indicated when booking. For one night ok, if i had stayed longer, would have chosen another room.
- Antonella (3/5): Disappointing owner - Location Very hard mattress. But what was worse is the following: We booked this property for 6nights, and we paid a total of 150euros upon checkin in cash. The property does not have a card machine so we have nothing to prove it, even though it is pretty obvious that a guest pays the price as booked. 2 weeks after checkout we received a notification from booking.com advising that the property amended the total price paid by us to 28euros. We questioned it and explained that we paid a total of 150e. It sounds like the property amended the price to 29eur (4.83e a night, what a joke) to avoid paying commissions to booking.com. Very unethical from the owner.
- Elodie (8/5): Very good - Clean room. Good location - a 10 min walk from the night market. No duvet, just a couple blankets.
- Helena (6/5): Pleasant -
- Courtney (6/5): Average at best - Great location, could tell the owner was a nice man as he looked after his two daughters Bed was uncomfortable, shower was average, not very clean, not much natural light
- Connor (7/5): Good -
- Diamonds (7/5): Good - It was clean. There was a communal balcony that was nice to drink your morning coffee. The pictures showed a beautiful balcony on the river. That balcony did not exist. The guest house opened up onto the road, not the pictures shown.
- Agnieszka (10/5): Exceptional - Really nice room, clean and cozy but without the window that course sometimes was stuffy. We should have information there is no window in the room before we booked.
- Marcelline (8/5): Very good - Location. Nearby old town and night market.
The young man checking me in- a member of the family, was very kind. The rooms need new paint. There was barely enough warm water to take a very short shower .
- Montgomery (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely house right on the river and by the night market with a fantastic host!
- Fredric (7/5): Good - Great location overlooking the river. Small shower đż for a big guy!
- Jairo (1/5): Bad -
- Lisa (5/5): Passable - Close to the night market, many restaurants nearby, bed was comfy Pictures with Mekong view are from a random restaurant and are not related to the guesthouse. Water in the shared shower didn't drain.
- Peter (8/5): Good - Location, value, comfort
- Ye (9/5): Superb - Awesome. Great location. Close to tourist attractions, restaurants, night market , and in front of Mekhong river.
- Ghibert (10/5): Really good - Very spacious, good bathroom and good AC
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional -
- Olivia (4/5): Disappointing - Nothing really I usually never complain, as we are super easy going but if you can find somewhere else, do.
There are plenty of another homestay/hostel in town.
I know there is day with and day without but we didn't exchange even a simply smile during our stay..
- Lachie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bryony (10/5): Exceptional - Hosts were nice and friendly, the room was very nice and a good size. It is only a short walk to the river, phousi hill and the night market. Nothing
- Manuel (3/5): Poor -
- Serena (10/5): Traditional old charm house by Mekong river centrally located with good prices. The innkeeper was very nice and friendly - Comfortable bed, good value, good service. Dark at night
- Leah (10/5): Exceptional - The view from the balcony was really nice. cosy room :)
- Alix (8/5): Very good -
- Jutta (7/5): Good - House and room was nice, but only a window towards inside, enjoyed the balcony next to room. During 2 days on water from morning till 6 p.m. due to works outside...would have been nice, if I would have been informed by the staff.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - A super lovely family run guest house! Very clean, with all the facilities you may need including a cozy balcony with a river view.
- Luke (4/5): Location is nice, but room is very overpriced. - It was in a nice location just along the river with lots of shops and night market nearby. Our water did not work during the stay, so we could not shower, flush the toilet and wash our hands in our room during much of our stay.
- Jutta (6/5): Pleasant - Many good restaurants around on the Riverside, close to Morning Market and National Museum Very noisy, room without window.
Very uncomfortable bed
- Kessor (2/5): The stay was expensive compared to the quality and standard youâll get. - The host was kind and helpful. The location was close to the river and the center which was nice. The room was horrible. The pillows were old and moldy, the room smelled like a bonfire or grill, which was not nice to inhale. There were also many flies and some cockroachesâŠ
- Fin (8/5): Great and cheap place to say - Our room was nice and often quite cool (especially at night). Bathroom was cleaned daily and host was friendly despite not talking much English, and helped plan trips out of the town. Sometimes the bathroom wasnât cleaned until later in the day and so the bin would be full and there would be no toilet paper. Shared bathroom meant you sometimes had to wait (but obviously this is to be expected).
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional - Great budget hotel, host was extremely kind and helpful
- Laura (5/5): Passable -
- Marta (10/5): Exceptional - Really good location, close to the river and the night market!
- Ben (8/5): Very good - I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Phousi Guesthouse 2. Our double room with a shared bathroom was comfortable, and with only one other room sharing the bathroom, it was convenient. The shared bathroom offered constant hot water and was well-maintained. The hostel provided reliable WiFi, which was a nice perk. Although our room lacked a window, other rooms had balconies offering scenic views. Additionally, a communal balcony near the top of the stairs provided a lovely overlook of the river.
The guesthouse's location is fantastic, just a short 3-minute walk to the markets and close to the ferry pier for excursions. The owner/manager, though quiet, seemed willing to help if needed. It's essential to remember that this is a guesthouse, essentially someone's home. Respecting the property and its owners ensured a trouble-free stay. While there were no windows, the fan worked well, and though the walls were thin, guests generally respected each other's space. Overall, a pleasant experience in a convenient and friendly guesthouse.

- Arthur (10/5): Thank you so much, we really enjoyed our time over there - special mention to the staff :) - Staff was very nice and location is perfect !
- Alexsky99 (5/5): Passable - Location. Half-dead cockroach in the bathroom in the morning.
First room filled up with smoke from outside. I had to change room.
Padlock instead of normal lock for the room door. Not convenient.
- Timothy (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (5/5): Passable -
- Dean (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent host
- Liv (4/5): Didnât feel that clean because of the constant smoke smell, awful to see the monkey like that. Good location though and - Good location right by the river. Very beautiful. Smelled like smoke 24/7. The owner smoked outside and inside I guess. This was not the owners fault but they kept a monkey capture in a small cage right by the hotel. It made it impossible to stay at the hotel for anything other than sleep. It was horrible to see, it kept us up at night and woke us up in the morning. Not the hotels fault obviously but it really did effect my stay and I couldnât enjoy it at all. Felt so bad for the poor monkey.
- Ricwolt (10/5): Exceptional - Great place. Front room with balcony overlooking Mekong River. We liked it that much that we stayed extra days.
Friendly and helpful host. There was nothing we did not like
- Anders (10/5): Host works hard to take care of his family. He is great. - Host went above and beyond to be kind and considerate to us during our stay. He helped us when we were confused and told us how to get places around town. Everything was very clean. Air conditioning was great. No complaints!
- Shantell (8/5): Very good -
- Lyle (10/5): Great location, great price, helpful host! - Great location for the price you pay! Host helped us book tours, train tickets etc. We even extended our stay a few days! Hosts English isnât great but nothing google translate wonât help with, also whatâs app him and he sorted lots that way! No complaints đ
- Michael (10/5): Great location and great host and place - * great location
* nice cosy place
* warm shower
* great air con
* nice chill out sections
* host was outstanding! Our check out day we had minivan booked for 5pm and we asked what time to check out and he let us stay free of charge as the room wasn't booked! Everything was great
- Benjamin (7/5): Good -
- Robyn (8/5): Very good - Great that water was provided from a bulk container. I was trying to reduce ny plastic use. Thanks.
- Wen (6/5): Pleasant - Great location, good air con A bit noisy, room had no window.
- Jessica (7/5): Good - Great location, across the road from the river with great bars and restaurants and close to night market. Our room smelt badly of cigarette smoke every time someone downstairs smoked (which was often).
- Yee (1/5): Bad - no breakfast
- Thimot (8/5): Very good -
- Tizzle8 (8/5): Very good -
- Noriko (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jack (8/5): Very good - Budget accommodation in a traditional Laotian house. Staff were friendly although had limited English. Shower worked fine. Little private balcony with one of the rooms, and a communal balcony with another. Ants if you leave food out- be careful of this.
- Jakob (10/5): Positive and helpful - The host was great. Helped me out a lot while injured. Great view of the Mekong and stayed I stayed two weeks In total from memory after visiting viang vieng. Would recommend :) Nothing
- Jakob (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kimmy (8/5): Very good - View of river. Room was spacious
- Jeeve (9/5): Excellent - On expensive side, but you get increased cleanliness for this. Flexible staff who are accommodating of your travel plans. Recommend. Be aware that there was no working elevator when I stayed there
- Eugenia (8/5): Hibgly recommend - Great guesthouse! loved the quiet location in front of the river, but close to everything. It is and old wooden house, so beautiful! I had a room with balcony and vented everyday, didnât even used the fan, so worth it to get this room. The host was very kind, donât expect conversation nor recommendations from him tho. There are some things that could be polished, like proper bathroom amenities or coffee station, but honestly for the price you canât ask for more. The bathroom is only shared by 3 rooms, which I donât care to share, but is one the bathrooms were the shower is i the toilet, so it was wet all the time, including the toilet, this is not very convenient.
- Audriene (7/5): Good - The home stay was okay, i love the balcony No AC rooms, host was not very social but helpful
- Charlie (4/5): Disappointing - very pretty dark wood, location was perfect no air con just a fan
- Vahid (10/5): Exceptional - Excellentđ«¶đ»
- Lilian (8/5): Would stay here again - At the Mekong River and close to the Night Market and Phousi Hill
Tidy room downstairs, was relatively quiet and had good air conditioning
Water pressure and toilet paper was really good As has already been mentioned in previous reviews, the photos do not match the reality
- Bernard (6/5): Good enough if you are not a fussy traveller - The property is easy to locate since it is located by the river and easily seen. However there is also another property with similiar name so it is easily mistaken but otherwise this has a better rating than the other one. Owner is nice, it is their house so it is literally staying with them. The owner is mostly at the entrance (living room) with the children. Nice family. Room is very basic and nothing to boast about but has all the required needs. It even comes with airconditioned so not complaining for sure especially in this hot weather. Hotel cleanliness could be made better. Rust and mould gets in the way and the toilet does not drain well but since only staying for 1 night, I am not complaining but giving constructive feedback.
- Jane (8/5): Nice view from the only room with a balcony - We stayed in the room with a balcony facing the river and this was lovely. To the side of our room was a very small communal area with 2 chairs and a view of the river. The location was really good. Bathroom, room and bedding was really clean. We had a good nights sleep. There is no eating/ drinking platform over the river. The first photo in the listing must be a nearby bar or pre-covid or something, it doesnât exist now. The staff gave us a very neutral welcome.
- Catherine (7/5): Good - Fabulous location right on the Mekong River. Exceptionally close to night markets and all other tourist attractions in old town. I did not find the staff member on duty to be overly communicative or welcoming.
- Tamara (8/5): Very good -
- Claudia (8/5): Great owner and location! - The owner who runs it is lovely with a nice family, heâs happy to help with sorting tuktuks, train tickets etc and let us check out late when we got a later train to Vang Vieng. The location is perfect, with everything and the night market on your doorstop. The room has a fan only, and no natural light so be prepared for it to be a little warm. Itâd also be great if you could supply hand soap in the bathroom :)
- Joslin (7/5): Good -
- Dang (8/5): I love, anyways, the PS GH2! - The place is very nice! The bath room is shared, it is in fact not so convenient!
- Alyssa (6/5): Pleasant - great location - across from the river, very close to the night market and temples. no air conditioning so it was very hot
- B (9/5): Excellent value - Great service, clean room, hot shower, good aircon, strong wifi Nothing.
- Matteo (8/5): Very good - - Great location
- Super nice staff
- Great value for price The rooms are separated only by a thin layer of wood (not un normal in the region) so you feel like you are sharing the room with the neighbors. Not a deal breaker but itâs better to know if youâre looking for quiet.
- Carmel (8/5): Very good - Great location, the owner was lovely and helpful and the shared bathroom was always clean. Thin walls, but that's normal for Asia
- Romy (9/5): we stayed only one night but enough to say it was very nice. staff is very welcoming and the room was clean. - it was clean and quiet
- Peimika (9/5): Superb -
- Adam (10/5): Great location, great staff - The hotel is very handy for all the main things to see in Luang Prebabg : less thaan 5 minutes to Phousi Hill, and not much further to Royal Palace, several wats etc
The staff were incredibly helpful; I arrived on the overnight bus at 7am not at all expecting to get my room until much later, but they sorted one for me. A staff member got up at 53 to let me out early another day so I could see the dawn monk's procession, and another helped me print a document I needed a paper copy of. I'm not normally so awkward, and I really appreciate how they accommodated all my awkward requests!
- Aik Teng (8/5): hotel with great location... - hotel is located minutes from night market and river front. staff are friendly though rooms are a bit small. Overall great stay.
- Kathleen (10/5): - Great place, easy to get around and see everything nearby.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was good. However we kept having plummijg issues in one of the room. There was no hot water and we had notify them to get it fix. A plummer came in and "fix" it but there was still no hot water in the shower. They had refused to switch our rooms and we had to get a Laotian friend to talk to them to get a room change otherwise they would not switch our rooms. Other than that, it was good and a few mosquitoes in the rooms.
