- Jovana (6/5): Rating: 6/10 - The location of the hotel is quite good, and the breakfast was okay—not great, but acceptable. Cleanliness could be better; I would rate it around 6/10. There was visible dust in the room, the comforters were not properly covered with sheets, and there was moisture in the bathroom. On the plus side, the price was low, so for the cost, it was manageable. Overall, it's fine if you're not expecting much, but there are definitely areas that need improvement.

It is close to the railway and the historical district. Also it is close to cafes, and restaurants. I didn't like climbing the hill to get to the railway station.

Think it could have been maintained beter. Aircon would start leaking water after 10 mins. Bar fridge was broken.

- A5058CKgabriellas (10/5): Amazing Istambul! - Me and my boyfriend we stayed here in late november 2019 for 5 days. The hotel is in a very strategical position, close to Sultanhamet (where the blue mosque, santa sophia etc are) and to the most interesting sites in Instanbul. We have ben attended by a very kind and professional guy called Durmush : if you need informations just ask to him, he also borrowed us his Instanbul card which is necessary to travel on tram and it's also the best way to visit Istanbul.
- georgeivan (4/5): Mixed feelings - The hotel seems to be well positioned if you don't know the location very well. Not recomended if traveled by car. There is just a paid parking near the hotel which can be full. By dsy, the are seems ok but, during the night, it turns into a less friendly looking. The are is very crowded, even in the night. Now, regarding the hotel. The hotel has new furniture, well equipped BUT, a very big BUT, do not choose the economy rooms. The economy rooms are very small. The deluxe rooms are ok. The price it is very good, though. The breakfast it is very good. Only 2 starts because or the very small room and because of the surroundings.

Even guys from reception help us get a cheap transport to airport. Ahmed and Zahir (guys who work on reception) are the funniest guys ever, and soooo kind. About the rest: All around the hotel are shops and restaurants, so everything is near, tram station too. Negatives: - little space to walk around in the rooms and bad lightening. When we arrived at 10pm they did not have our and sent us to an apartment with no light in the bedroom no towels, everything old and falling apart. Dirty bed sheets a dump. - SIDAHMED (10/5): - We really liked the hotel me and my wife , we had a nice 15 days at the Raimond, Ahmet the owner was super friendly and really cares about his customers, and Mustapha a super super nice person who dropped tears when we left , and Farouk was very helpful guy , momy Marie the housekeeper was very hardworking. We had this experience and now we have 4 more friends in our cycle . Thank you so much RAIMOND for the warm heart.

- Duygu (6/5): Sehr freundliches Personal aber schlechte Zimmer - Im Hotelzimmer befindet sich zwar alles was man so braucht, aber sauber waren die Zimmern leider nicht. Wir haben uns bei Ankunft 2 weitere Zimmer angeschaut weil wir nicht zufrieden waren. Aber haben uns dann letztendlich für das 3. Zimmer im 2. Stock (für 40€ Aufpreis, da wir Basemant Economy gebucht hatten und das befindet sich im Keller) entschieden, weil das eher am "saubersten" war. Im Bad befanden sich mehrere Haare auf dem Boden. Bei den Bettwäschen hatte man an manchen stellen kleine flecken. Wir waren 4 Nächte dort und getauscht wurden die Handtücher im Bad zwar täglich aber dafür die Bettwäsche garnicht. Personal war sehr freundlich da kann man nicht meckern. Also wem die Sauberkeit von den Zimmer nicht soo wichtig ist, dann ist das Hotel schon Ok.

- Tatiana (2/5): Мошенники! fraudsters! - Добрый день! Хотелось бы довести до вашего сведения, что в этом отеле разводят на деньги при заселении. Я бронировала отель со 2.09 по 3.09. Заселялась ночью, о чем указывала при бронировании. На стойке регистрации персонал отказаться разговаривать со мной на английском, русском и упорно вел беседу на турецком. Через мин 30 пререканий выяснилось, что мне надо было почему-то бронировать с 1.09 на 2.09. И мои данные появятся у них только после 8.00. Затем речь пошла о том, что меня с моим парнем не имеют права заселять, тк мы не семейная пара. Почему это не указано на сайте? Наверное потому что это развод. Дело кончилось тем, что 60 tl решили вопрос, хотя номер стоил 48 tl. И ура! через час переговоров, персонал с довольной ухмылкой отдали нам ключи от номера с тараканами, сломаным душем и грязными полами.
- Anna (10/5): Erste-Klasse-Service, Interessante Gegend - Wir wurden trotz später Stunde überaus freundlich und zuvorkommend empfangen. Der junge Mann an der Rezeption beantwortete trotz später Stunde alle unsere Fragen und gab uns eigeninitiativ einige Tipps. Auch an den folgenden Tagen wurden wir bei jeder Begegnung im Frühstücksraum oder an der Rezeption überaus freundlich begrüßt. Auch unsere 8-jährige Tochter wurde als eigener Gast wahrgenommen (oft werden Kinder in solchen Zusammenhängen eher ignoriert und der Service ist eher an die „Zahlenden“ gerichtet): alle Hotelangestellten begrüßten sie liebevoll und offenherzig, wenn sie sie sahen. Unser Zimmer war klein und einfach. Es hatte aber funktionierende Aircondition, einen kleinen Kühlschrank, Fernseher, Ganzkörperspiegel und einen Tresor. Es gibt jeden Tag frische Handtücher, Duschgel, Seife, Bodylotion. Das Frühstück ist einfach aber lecker. Es wird von einer freundlichen Frau vorbereitet, die auch die Zimmer reinigt. Das Ciwan-Hotel liegt in Fatih – einer interessanten Gegend mit niedlichen Straßen und Gassen (zum Teil sehr steile Straßen). Es gibt fußläufig zahlreiche Restaurants und Cafés, kleine und große Möglichkeiten Lebensmittel einzukaufen, sowie Kleidung. Die nächste Tramstation Beyazit ist 10 Minuten entfernt. Ebenso weit ist es bis zum großen Basar. Zu Fuß bis Sarayburnu sind es ca. 20 Minuten. Wenn ich das nächste Mal nach Istanbul komme, würde ich wieder im Ciwan übernachten!

Positives: - excellent facilities - air condition, wi-fi, TV, lift. - helpful staff - easy going - good location - 5-10 minutes walk to Beyazit (uphill walk) or 5 liras by taxi. High end restaurants as well inexpensive ones all around the hotel. Shops everywhere. Negatives: - little space to walk around in the triple rooms - other rooms are fine. - some toilets are awkwardly positioned to sit on - directly placed next to the wall. Overall - excellent services and good value for money. Gladly recommend the hotel.
- idee1 (2/5): Horrible staff and room - We had booked for 21 days and paid full (breakfast included) biggest mistake!! First of all, as soon as we entered the room the room was filthy ! The floors were rusty, there were stains everywhere and for a 'triple' room as absolutely tiny. There was no space to even move as the beds took up all the space of the room. Anyway, we had paid for breakfast and only had received it 3 times throughout 21 days! Every time we had asked for breakfast, it was the same (rotten cheese, tomatoes and olives). We later asked for fruit and the night staff ( who were very kind OTHER THAN THE MANAGER WHO SPEAKS GOOD ENGLISH) got us that. We later realised that the fruit was coming out of their own pockets as the manager did not want to give them money to provide proper breakfast!! So we felt bad and apologised to the night staff as it wasn't their fault. The cleaning was absolutely vile. We did not have the room cleaned not even once ! For 21 days the room was not cleaned!! Instead all the lady gave us was towels, tissues and shampoo. We had asked for sheets and even changed it ourselves because the hotel was too lazy to do that. We even had to wipe the floors clean and disinfect the surfaces. We couldn't even eat in the room because we felt disgusted to. There were also shaved hairs on the toilet sink as soon as we checked in which was absolutely disgusting, unfortunately we didn't take a picture of this. Our last straw was when we decided to call the manager who was sitting at the reception and complain about the fact we had not had breakfast and that our rooms had not been cleaned at all. He got angry and started threatening us saying " do u want to see me go crazy " and threatening to call the police, which we didn't care about because we were in the right as we received such bad service! He told us to leave the hotel because he couldn't handle the complaints we had given him, and so we asked for a refund he refused and wanted to kick us out when we had a week left. The manager is very very very rude, you will know him because he speaks good English ( the only one who CAN speak english in the hotel), and is very disrespectful as he was shouting swearing and threatening us. We felt very unsafe to even stay in the hotel or even sleep!! Everyone else who works there is very kind I have no problem with them, especially the night staff who are at the reception. I will attach a few pictures of how dirty the room was. We also paid a higher amount than what other more beautiful hotels were offering, we were so annoyed!! Also, all of reviews of this hotel that has good ratings are fake, the manager himself wrote it and we also confronted him about it and he got caught out. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!

- mohdm438 (2/5): Dissapointed (unfortunantly I didn't take pictures) - I booked Ciwan Hotel for 6 nights based on the ratings in booking sites. The rooms are small and not that clean. The location is not perfect as it is described, all the roads that lead to tourism places are sloped and exhausted. You need taxi to reach it or walking for at least 15 minutes. The breakfast is cold and same for every day, besides there are only few choices. The tourism tours are very expensive comparing to others. The only advantage is the cheap reversation price.

Attention aux commercent très collantes.

- 901miranm (10/5): Marvelous Stay - We had a marvelous stay in Istanbul at the Ciwan Hotel. Wonderful interiors, very good service. The reception personnel were very helpful in advice on what to do in the city. Breakfast were good. The hotel is near to Sultanahmat area, Kumkapi Bus station and Beyazeit Tram Station. There were a lot of shops near the hotel. All the Staff were very helpful and kindly with us. The hotel is very safe and the place of it is quiet.
- dusica_cook (4/5): Very disapointing! - Well... This is one of the few hotels of the kind I encountered in my life and I travel a lot, making bookings online and relying on the reviews of the previous guests. We booked the hotel beginning of November 2015 to stay in it for the New Year period (7 nights). It was a no-refund booking and I had to leave my credit card number. A few days later, there was an attempt to misuse the credit card. Someone attempted to charge the same amount as the hotel cost, but different currency (making it almost a double cost), but fortunately my bank recognised it as a potential fraud and blocked the card. As I did not want to lose the booking, I called the hotel directly to explain what happened (and I did say that I suspected their staff trying to misuse the card) and asking them not to cancel the booking because of the inability to charge the card. I offered to send the money by bank transfer, but the hotel refused saying that they would have to pay tax if they receive money by the bank. After many phonecalls and a lot of convincing (including sending them my plane tickets to prove we are really going to arrive to Istanbul), the hotel said they would keep the booking. I asked them to send it in writing and it took another 7 days and a few more phone calls to get the confirmation. Horrible hassle to start with! We found a hotel fairly easy, although you have to bear in mind that it is not really visible. You will notice everything else before you realise the hotel is there. Small, invisible door. The location of the hotel is not bad, but it is not the best you can find. It is downhill (quite a steep one) from the tram station, and everywhere you want to go, you either need to climb some 15 minutes up, or walk to the Sultanahmet (which also has a bit of a climb, but much easier), for about 25 min. HINT - (if you chose this place) get to the entrance to the Kumkapi restaurant area, and then look for the travel agency which is at the entrance of the hotel. There is another hotel next to it, more visible than this one (Loop or something was the name), and the door to Ciwan is just between the hotel and travel agency. We asked for a room wtih a balkony, as we are both smokers and wanted to be able to go outside on the balcony and smoke. We were told we would get such room and indeed we did! Such a scam! I am 100% sure we got the worst possible room they had! - The width of the room was marely 2 m, and the length was not more than 2.80. The bed fills up the whole room. - The balkony was some 50 cm wide, and the view from the room was terrible (go see the photos). You could not get outside to smoke, it was horrible! - Not that we wanted to watch much TV while on a holiday, but having at least 2-3 foreign channels would have been nice - all of the channels were Turkish and majority of programmes synchronised. - The bathroom was ok, not very large, but that was all fine. The thing that was not fine is the cleaning; the bathroom was cleaned only once during our stay. In fact, we cleaned it ourselves twice, after we realised that the service comes only to make the bed in the morning (which we do, anyhow, for ourselves, so there was no need for this really), and to bring new towels. Toilet, sink and shower have never been cleaned until our last day (i.e. after the 6th night, just before we went home!). - Breakfast was the same every day and did not offer much choice: bread, french bread, boiled eggs, one type of cheese (only on 2 days we also had some cottage cheese), and some sort of a saussage, really poor quality one. - Heating in the hotel was really poor, our room was freezing cold (there was a radiator, but didn't really work well), so we used A/C all the time, which dried the air and caused us to have poor sleep. The breakfast room was freezing every day. - The staff was not rude, but they have not been very pleasant or helpful either. There was one of them (my husband is sure he attempted to misuse our card), who would never make eyecontact and when we asked about the heating in the breakfast saloon, he responded: I am warm enough. Seriously, I am not exaggerating. I always try to give reviews as true to the fact as possible, and this is by far the worst I have ever written. Well, there was one good thing - WiFi, really worked well! Anyhow, this experience has thought us a lesson and it proves that, even after 20 years of travelling all over the world, you can still make bad choices!
- 401alinax (10/5): very good, and comfortable - The location is very good, you can go to Blue mosque and grand Bazaar on foot, it is near and convenient. The hotel price is very good.And staff here are very nice and kind, they always help us to resolve problems. We are Chinese, we like Turkey very much, when we go to Istanbul next time, we will book ciwan hotel, too.
- Marina-Copenhagen (8/5): Good location, friendly and helpful personnel, clean rooms. - It was very easy to get to the hotel from the airport, less than 1 hour. My advice would be to print out detailed map with all the small streets in the neighborhood, not to get lost. Hotel located in walking distance to Sultanahmet square, where u can enjoy main places of interest. Its also close to Central Bazar is u are into shopping. Just around the corner there is a huge amount of restaurants with life music, very romantic atmosphere and festive mood. Everyone is the hotel was super sweet and nice. Once we had to leave before breakfast time, so they even started it earlier, very kind gesture. Room was small but very clean, bathroom was very specious. I think hotel was newly renovated and refurnished, so everything is fresh and modern. I would definitely recommend Ciwan hotel for those who wants to get the place close to the city center, shopping spots, good restaurants and harbor.
