Guest Reviews
- Claes (1/5): Bad -
- Vivian (2/5): -
I DO NOT recommend staying at Socialtel Quito. When I arrived, the staff informed me that the hotel would soon be without power. The place felt like a ghost town—nearly empty, with only a few staff members around. None of the listed facilities were available, and breakfast was not offered, despite being advertised.
It was clear the hotel is in the process of closing, yet they are still accepting reservations without warning guests about the situation. The uncertainty and lack of security made me feel unsafe, and I decided to leave after just one night.
Travelers deserve transparency and basic services. This experience was disappointing and stressful. I hope others are warned before booking here.
- Angela (10/5): Amazing experience for the value! - I stayed here for my last day in Ecuador and it was just what I needed to relax before my travels home. It was so clean, comfy and modern. The bed was so comfortable and the hot shower was incredible. I had everything I needed. I got a delicious welcome drink that was included and snacked on some amazing empanadas from the restaurant. It was quiet and safe in the hotel. Everyone was friendly as well. This is one of the best hotels for the value I've experienced. Honestly nothing- it was really nice!
- Gijs (10/5): Amazing! - Its amazing. Just book

- AVIAN (8/5): - Ok
- Ramiro (8/5): Very good -
- Leonie (3/5): Average property. I would have expected more for a Selina - Big spacious room Lots of wear and tear. The staff were not very helpful or friendly. There was no vibe considering it’s supposed to be a fun hostel.
- Maeve (2/5): Very poor - There was no wifi in the rooms.
There was a leak on the 5th floor for the whole duration of our stay. We informed the staff but they did nothing about it!
Really poor quality for a selina hostel.
- Ana (3/5): 😣 - The people working at the hotel were actually great A Disappointing Stay at Selina Quito
I had high hopes for my stay at Selina Quito, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. During my travels, I stayed in much cheaper places that provided better comfort of any kind—hot water, soap, reliable Wi-Fi, and tranquility—which were noticeably missing here.
The room felt outdated, and the view was underwhelming, overlooking the building across the street. For the price, which I found to be ridiculous, I expected a far more comfortable and enjoyable experience.
While Selina Quito may appeal to some, I would recommend looking elsewhere if you’re seeking better value for your money and a more comfortable, well-equipped stay.
- Gijs (8/5): Very good - In the weekend the music downstairs is too loud for the guests to sleep
- Enma (7/5): Good -
- Beat (8/5): Very good -
- Emilio (9/5): Superb - Good location. Easy check in
- Emilio (9/5): Superb - Good location and restaurant / bar on site.
Staff let us store luggage before our flight
- katty (8/5): - Nice hotel for the price
- Ciara (6/5): Unfortunately did not live up to expectations given this is a well known chain hostel - Communal areas
Staff were fab
Breakfast General cleanliness - stairs were very dirty, private room was not clean when we arrived (lots of dust, hair etc), shared bathrooms need to be cleaned more often
- Luis (10/5): It was a comfortable and great experience - Everything was great
- Javier (10/5): Exceptional - The spot Was everithing good
- Malika (8/5): Good hostel in safe place - The hostel is nice and located in safe area. There are restaurant, cafe, kitchen, activities. The bed was comfortable and room was good size. I stayed in 6 bed room. The breakfast was good and tasty. The stuff are helpful. There was a lot of families with kids. So the atmosphere was not like usually in hostel, it reminded me some family parks with activities. And I felt cold all the time.
- Diaz (10/5): Hotel seguro - Las instalaciones compartidas, billar, bar, hall Horarios del check out
- Estuardo (8/5): Very good -
- Rute (5/5): Passable - The hostel is stunning, the food is amazing and the staff is great! I didn’t had wifi in my room, only in the main areas…
- Magda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patrycja (1/5): Staff is not responsive - I tried to get in touch with the staff and they were not responsive. My friend had issues with payment and they were also not responsive regarding figuring out the issue with her
- Paula (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vinay (9/5): Superb -
- Anais (6/5): Not the Selina we're used to! - The staff and decor were nice, as per all the Selina hostels. It didn't have the usual Selina vibe that were used to. None of the advertised activities happened, the neighborhood wasn't great (unless all you want is bars and expensive restaurants), the tours offered were more expensive and not as good as other companies. Shower was cold. They didn't sell water and didn't have much of a jug refill for water bottles - in a country where you can't drink tap water. Clean but stained sheets. The room was loud at night. The bar area was always empty. The 7am breakfast was very late, even when tours start at 730.
- Vladimir (10/5): Cool and well-organized place! - There are all the things that a good hostel should have: curtains, lockers, personal sockets, and good Wi-Fi.
There's a free coworking with free coffee, zones for playing and hanging out, good kitchen.
Everything is quite new and clean. It's located in the party zone of the city. For some tourists can be better to live right in the centre.
- Franz (2/5): Pesimo lugar para estar - Location Mucha fiesta e incluso el lobby estaba olor a yerba
- Lauren (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (8/5): Very good -
- Natasha (4/5): Noisy, hard to sleep -beyond this a great hostel. - Great facilities, cinema, kitchen, restaurant, work area, etc, also clean. Helpful travel agency downstairs run by a lovely lady, Catalina, who goes above and beyond to help you. Good menu in restaurant downstairs. Hostel guests were quiet. Noise -couldn't sleep. This was due to 1) thin windows so all noise from the busy street flooded in 2) Reception staff playing loud music at all hours -I came down to catch a plane at about 5.30am and the reception music was at VERY loud club levels (all this came through the windows a few floors up)! Shame as the hostel is great facility wise, very impressive, but not being able to sleep well for the days I was there contributed to me getting very ill and having to cancel the rest of my trip. The actual hostel guests were quiet and respectful.
The other thing that wasn't great was a weird smell in the rooms from the cleaning products. (& the waitress in the restaurant was a bit scary and unfriendly)! The other staff were all nice but obviously the loud music was inconsiderate.
- Anderson (1/5): Rude female manager. Price to service/room benefits ratio is too high. Rooms overpriced by 50%. - Good location. Good restaurant though a tad expensive. Rude guests and noisy events in the restaurant without notice to guests. In both shared facilities room and forced upgrade to a private “suite” had showers and sinks without hot water. Especially the “suite” produced only lukewarm showers. Towels were smaller than an average torso. General staff were polite but female manager took it upon her own to ban me from a 3rd day because we didn’t agree on the extremely annoying events and her supercilious attitude. Extremely arrogant woman with good English but terrible problem-solving skills and limited customer satisfaction skills. Rooms are also far overpriced for the value. No TV, a Wi-Fi not available in all rooms. Very sporadic on the 3rd floor, lower number end rooms. Will never waste my time booking again at Selina with their strange “meditation for acquiring money” night events.
- Eduardo (10/5): Exceptional - I loved Mary's attention. She's such a good person! Thanks
- Ginger (7/5): Good - There are good social spaces The elevator doesn’t work properly. The hotel is not in a good location.
- Cinthya (7/5): Good -
- Lauren (9/5): Clean, good service and lovely staff - Safe area, all amenities and clean tidy room Rooms were a little tired looking need some updating
- Philip (8/5): Very good -
- Satoshi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jim (6/5): Okay. - price was good and the bad was fine. the shared bathroom was dirty on arrival and had a bad odor.
- Meehan (2/5): Very poor - It was cold and noisy.
- Leanne (7/5): Clean and comfy - Comfy and clean dorm, and the kitchen was clean too, first time I have experienced this with Selina!
Friendly team that work there the wifi was really bad, no connection in rooms or away from reception, I burned through a stack of data.
- Nadiya (10/5): Exceptional - great community building and comfort of a hotel
- Grace (4/5): Disappointing - The breakfast during weekdays was good and most staff members were very friendly. It just wasn’t Selina standard in any way.
We booked two nights in the same room, same room style and on the same booking but their system messed up and made it it into two separate bookings so we had to pack up and check out / check in again for two nights! The same thing happened when we booked through their own app for a Selina in Baños so it’s definitely a fault on their system.
We had a private room with shared bathroom on floor 3 on our first night and the bathroom on our floor was locked, we asked the receptionist but the answer was ‘oh yeah it was locked last night too, you can use the bathrooms on the other floors’. The wifi didn’t work at all from our room, it wasn’t even picked up as an option. The bedsheets in two rooms smelt like damp and one room smelt like cheesy feet - again just not Selina standard at all. The rooms were also absolutely freezing.
On weekends the breakfast turns into a buffet and it’s annoying as you get less options than you would on a weekday when you can pick from quite a few things on the menu.
- Leanne (7/5): Good - so much to do as they have activities and their own cafe which was great to not have to look for a coffee shop each morning. there is a club opposite and it was so loud until 2/3am we stayed Wednesday to Sunday and it was every night. our room faced the street so it was a big problem for us I would suggest requesting a back facing room.
We booked a straight nights but the staff found it difficult to arrange this and kept asking us to come back and pay every time
we did (3 times) they said they couldn’t take the money as it wasn’t finalised, it was very frustrating as we kept trying to pay then when we did we waited 30 mins for them doing the computer side of things. checked out the next day and they said we hadn’t paid….it’s not malicious or deliberate just not good organisers/communicators.
- Jean-robert (9/5): Superb -
- Charlie (7/5): Good -
- Michaella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shahar (8/5): Very good -
- Dimitar (10/5): A beautiful hotel and great value for money - Attentive and friendly staff
Very cool environment
I will recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Quito
- Garry (10/5): comfortable and affordable - location and how well it’s designed to accommodate travellers
- Geraldine (8/5): wifi should be improved - good location and amenities wifi was very poor in my room
- Hannah (10/5): Has it all and made life easier - The hostel was amazing, room was comfy and clean and showers were super hot!
Loads of tours on offer and staff always really friendly and had amazing English. Fab breakfast included (which 4 different options!)
Has a library, shop, pool table, coffee shop and restaurant which set it apart. Felt more like a hotel which meant it was slightly harder to.meet people but was still amazing
- Alex (9/5): Superb -
- Alex (9/5): Superb -
- Victoria (8/5): Comfortable stay - Basic room with comfy bed and bedding. Shared bathroom was clean and the shower good with hot water and the towels were large. Breakfast was good with a few options offered. Travel company within the hostel which we used and would recommend. There were social activities but I wouldn’t necessarily say it was a social social hostel. Room was quiet and having a lift was useful for luggage. Staff friendly on reception. Supermarket and ATMs nearby. It’s about a 10/15 min Uber into the Old Town.
- Mariana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Morgan (9/5): Superb -
- Christian (6/5): Pleasant -
- Aparna (4/5): - Was really looking forward to staying at a Selina property given the positive feedback I had heard from friends. Immediately upon arriving (after a long journey) I found there to be no hot water in the shower. This was not fixed for 24hrs. I also expected the staff to be more friendly/community focused however this was not the case. I was never invited to the whatsapp group even though I requested to be added and ultimately, will never stay at a selina again. Hostels provide a much better hostel experience and hotels provide a much better hotel experience. While Selina strives to be the best of both, it falls completely short of achieving that goal. Note, my friend checked-into this same Selina location yesterday and (a) they gave him the wrong room upon check-in even though his reservation had been made, and paid for, weeks in advance and (b) he also did not have hot water for a day.
- Victor (10/5): great please to stay with awesome staff with great amenities and a lively vibe for a decent price- highly recommended - very nice and hospitable, the facilities were very comfortable. sometimes, minimally, some of the staff were unsure how to process certain transactions. however, they managed to make it work. a non-issue for me, to be honest.
- Zoe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gilad (9/5): Superb - The place is beautiful, the room was spacious and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was extremely overpriced and ridiculously small
- Byron (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (6/5): Pleasant - The hostel is very visually pleasing and the staff super friendly and helpful. I had dinner and breakfast which were both great. The lockers are also quite spacious. The dorm room bathroom is actually a wet room and floods easily. The door to our dorm would not shut properly without a lot of force which woke others up. Similarly, my bedside lamp was broken, as was another travellers in our dorm.
- Fernanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (10/5): Very lovely hostel with great food. - The very best was the food! Excellent! And they have vegan options. There's lockers, curtains around the beds, a big mirror, spacious bathroom.. A little table with every bed and powerpoints. So basically all yoi need :) you can also refill your bottle at the reception. It can get noisy. Didn't bother me, just saying :)
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - Clean rooms, good facilities. Good WiFi
Nice and friendly staff.
- Javier (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked the funky, cool vibe
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cool, hip hotel in a cool part of town. - This is a cool, beautifully designed hotel in a hip part of Quito. They have a lot of tours and activities and really helpful people working there. Breakfast was simple but good. The room was clean, the shared bathroom was clean, and the shower was nice. The coworking space is also great.
The only negative thing is that I didn't get really good wifi in my room. It was enough to send some messages and browse but I had to either go to the coworking space or to the lobby to get faster internet for video calls. I think it may depend on what floor they put you on.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent choice in quito. - Big building hotel located in a quote green district in quito. The service is very good, staff efficient and kind. Congrats! 👍
- Nathan (4/5): Bad plumbing and noisy - The staff was very friendly and helpful, that was the best part. The room was nice enough but the water didnt work most of the time (no shower, no flushing toilet, not able to wash hands). There is significant plumbing issues in that building and I was only able to take one "hot" shower in 2 days. The bath towels smelled moldy and it did not appear that the room was super clean upon entering (I did my own sanitizing of the room). Also, you can hear a pin drop from outside the room. Very noisy which is typical for Quito streetside rooms but the hallways were very noise and it was hard to relax being able to hear every thing happening in the hallways and even rooms adjacent to mine.
- LaurenVerde (6/5): - I like the yoga room on the ninth floor with the big windows and panoramic view of Quito. The workspace on the eighth floor is great. I didn’t like that Kelly the concierge once called me a “ho” in the elevator or that I fell into a three hour sleep multiple times after each breakfast. I stopped eating their breakfast and that stopped. Even if the CIA does have a hit on me, that’s not appropriate to cooperate with them. I am actually not a prostitute. I’m a law- abiding visitor in a foreign country. There should be a no smoking policy. My apartment rental was delayed for repairs, otherwise I would Have left sooner. In Quito there are Lavenderias, where someone will do your regular laundry FOR YOU. There were people staying for months in Selina and there wasn’t a washer dryer so they could have the privacy of washing their own clothes. This is weird to me. It’s common here.
- Verde (4/5): - I liked the yoga room on the 9th floor had a panoramic view of Quito. I liked the 8th floor workspace. There isn’t a nonsmoking policy. I stopped eating breakfast because I felt drugged and passed out for 3 hours after after a series of breakfasts. A staff member called me an expletive once in the elevator.
- LaurenaVerde (8/5): - The value. The rooms clean and I switched my room to that with a balcony and great view, and then got a free breakfast upgrade. There’s an awesome exercise room with a panoramic view and ample workspace.
- Chirag (10/5): Great location - Great location in Quito, really clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast and really helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - There was a gas leak at the property and everyone had to be evacuated for many hours. The smell of gas was everywhere and the hostel was not fit habitation, even after they said it was safe to return. I have attempted to contact the manager regarding a refund as we had to change hotels, I still have not received a response and reception is not able to assist me.
- Tsvetelina (6/5): Run down, chaotic, good location, nice staff - The place is very un down. It has the Selina design at reception and food corner but the rest is nowhere near the Selina standards. The only Selina (out of 10ish) that is really disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The staff was very nice but during our first breakfast the guys had no idea what is included in the prepaid breakfast and were were told we can only have the Selina breakfast (which is very poor) and American coffee. We asked to pay the difference between this coffee and a cappuccino but my request was firstly denied and was told they cannot make changes. After I insisted, the girl at reception gave permission for me to pay the difference. This day we were given nice fresh juice with the breakfast. Next day the were are told we have a choice of 7-8 different breakfast and any kind of hot drink or juice for breakfast. Definitely the girl knew things better.
My room had absolutely no charm. The bedsheets were with stains, the floor didn’t look clean either. The room had a nice view, next to the bed there were USBs. The showerhead in the bathroom was very unpractical as you need to get wet in order to turn on the water. The toilet was not working properly as well. The walls were very thin and you can hear people chatting in the middle of the night on the corridor.
The burgers in the restaurant were amazing!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Wont stay here again - The lobby looks good as it has a rustic feels but the hotel is old as in like really old. The rooms are NO WAY the ones in the pictures. This is an old hotel that was rebranded. I was really disappointed but good that I only had to stay there for one night and leave early the next day. But the staff were really nice, that somehow makes up for the crappy hotel.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Having stayed at a Selina in Bogotá I was expecting a similar experience. Booked a twin room and it was not much better than a dorm - dirty stained carpet, leaking sink no simple things like bath mat for open shower soap dispenser fillled. Overpriced for what we got which was a dorm room with bath. Aside from one awesome guy working desk in afternoon the staff were inot interested. We didn’t eat at the restaurant because I saw 3 people eating there and all 3 complained about the food It seems the Selina brand is about funky walk murals and music -
That’s the only similarity between Bogotá and Quito
- Peter (10/5): - Fabulous staff!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Selina has a very youthful vibe and is more than a hostel - our room was large, clean and comfortable. After check-in we were offered 4 cocktail coupons at the bar in the facilities. Their restaurant is nice and they have good breakfast options. The hostel is located near Plaza Foch - a vibrant place for music and dining options. The staff was friendly and very helpful in connecting us with our bus ride the next morning. Highly recommended.
- Zak (10/5): Nice place to stay in good location. - Great place to stay, The staff at the front desk were very helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great, staff freoienbly, the private room might be a bit pricy but great value
- Dario (10/5): - Definitely one of my favorite places to stay. Highly recommend to those who need a modern a layback place to stay while visiting Quito. Ah, did I mentioned the location is also great!
