Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was clean and comfortable. Decor is dated. Parking and entrance to rooms is frightening - old, rickety, off a dirty alley.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Outside ok appearance, inside charming, historic, clean & spacious. Air conditioning struggled to cool room in sunny mid 80s outdoor temps. Night street noice (11pm-2:30am) made it hard to fall asleep for quiet country people. Little confusion at check in (off-site, over phone) & they had us booked for 2 rooms & we only had/needed one. We were unsure at check out if that was corrected & we only got charged for one room. No paperwork slid underneath door which was ok, but an email showing billed amount would have been helpful. Had to check credit card few days later for billed amount. Over all mostly good stay.
- Michelle (10/5): What a lovely stay! - My stay at Hermann’s was lovely. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The decor is very old school but that’s part of the charm. It was a very clean room with plenty of space to unpack and relax. The check in process was a breeze. I was automatically check in the say of. I got an email a few days before with a phone number to the restaurant/inn, called it, and got the door code to get into the Inn, and then a code to get my key. I will definitely stay here again in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - .
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was very friendly and it was clean in the room, but the room smelled musty, the bed was not very comfortable, and the ceiling had some water staining. There was also some water damage in the bathroom under the sink. We were in room 6. My parents also stayed at the same hotel and there room was very beautiful and also clean and didn’t seem to smell musty, so maybe our specific room just needed some work. I would consider staying again if we weren’t in the same room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - There was a coffee pot to use but NO COFFEE. Love the old brick wall, high ceilings of room 4. It was nice to be downtown instead of a brand hotel. Strange how to sign in threw the bar. but it was ok place
- Andrew (10/5): Would recommend - Good experience. I will stay here again.
- Craig (4/5): noisy, outdated - The room was clean but very out dated It over looked the main street and was noisy at times. Deliveries for the restaurant started before 6am and was right under our window. Had to find someone in the restaurant to check us in
- Jacqueline (10/5): Cozy place to stay! - Always a pleasure to stay here. Clean rooms, great location, and a wonderful restaurant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean friendly adorable ! I will stay here again . This down town close to everything
- Greg (10/5): - We were very pleasantly surprised. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We are already planning to return.
- Marleen (10/5): Hidden treasure - We absolutely loved this hotel! Cadillac is a quaint little town in the hotel itself is just charming. There are seven rooms above the restaurant each unique. I loved the use of the brick walls.... some painted some left to their natural color. The bathroom was large, the bed was comfortable, and despite the fact you’re above a restaurant it was very quiet. The Blueheron next-door is a great place for breakfast. We also walked to Depot after 26... A great little nonprofit restaurant with again a nice breakfast. I absolutely would stay at this location again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay very much. Restaurant outstanding!!
- Jessica (10/5): Freedom Festival Fun - The description of the hotel fit our experience to a T. Straightforward, clean, helpful staff, fun downtown, overall it was a really good experience and we would definitely stay again.
- Deb (6/5): - Golf weekend
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We had no noise issues although we were in a street-facing room. The room was dated but very clean and well maintained. If you will be arriving late, call ahead and make arrangements as the restaurant closes at 10 and no one is onsite after that. We would definitely stay here again!
- Rick (10/5): Classic, Quality & Convenient - Hermann's was excellent! Room was clean spacious and so convenient to downtown. I was hosting an event at Clam Lake Beer Co. and recommend both Hermann's and Clam Lake as exceptional places to eat. Next time I am in Cadillac I'll be staying here and eating here! Food and service are fantastic! Chef Hermann is a legend!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Simple but stylish. Instead of unnecessary frills, they get the essentials right.
- Douglas (10/5): Austrian Delight in Cadillac, MI - Always enjoyable. I have stayed here several times. Conveniently located in downtown Cadillac. Great Austrian Restaurant on the first floor. Convenient to several great Brew Pubs in the downtown Cadillac area. Large rooms with great amenities.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great room. Nice location. Historic building with high ceilings. Convenient and walkable to food and amenities.
- Wrigley (10/5): - We were extremely relaxed and happy to have this experience! Check-in : simple! Return of forgotten item : gracious! Returning guests : absolutely!
- john (8/5): - We were in town for a festival it was nice cuz it was centrally located was close to restaurants stores movies Lake everything within walking distance
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect great town. Friendly staff and people will return again
- KT (10/5): - We just LOVE Hermann’s! It’s not cookie-cutter, but rather a charming old-world inn. The staff is friendly and Hermann is a real character! Our last stay (third time there) was due to a power outage after some severe storms came through our area. We would have stayed longer, but they were completely booked.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room was amazingly clean even along the floor and ceiling corners, and bathroom was equally as clean. Chef Hermann was most courteous and welcoming. We were very comfortable although a new mattress would be the perfect addition. By far not the worst but it was older and should be replaced. We would stay there again.
- Laura (8/5): - Very nice property, friendly staff, nicely furnished, queen room has sitting area, close to White Pine Trail and park, noisy front car and street noise, would opt for a room in the back next time.
- Stephen (8/5): Stay here when in Cadillac. - Great central location. Great food downstairs. Helpful staff, see Dennis in the wine bar, very charming. Beds just ok. On Main drag but quiet. Off street free parking is convenient and on room level.
- Curt (6/5): Hermans Hotel a Place of Character and Charm. - Love the location of this hotel, its just a short few blocks to shops, restaruants, and lake. Rooms were quiet and cozy however matress was very hard old spring type, pillows very old/small warnout, blanket old warnout, lamps kind of cheezy, floors squeeked throughout the room and hallway and stairs. Price was fair for location. The staff was very nice and Herman himself spoke with us on way up our room - nice polite personable.
- katherine (8/5): Charming hotel - We like places that aren't "cookie cutter" and Hermann's fills the bill. It's right downtown-tons of great shops, bars and restaurants in walking distance. The staff is beyond great!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff was amazing. Friendly, and welcoming.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Convenient for travelers. - Right downtown, so you can easily walk to unique shops, and breweries. A stop at Hermann's Restaurant for an evening meal, and a comfortable room right next door was a treat. Not having to drive from place to place was truly a plus for this couple. We will be back .
- Verified traveler (8/5): nicer than I thought - Close to a few restraunts bars & lake
Roomy Quiet
Checkin was interesting and done at the cafe seemed like nobody new the exact process of check In except for one women who yelled "it's the middle of lunch it's gonna be awhile"
It was 2:00 and who found her smoking out back after another girl got us checked in!
Everyone else was nice, be sure to get a receipt to show u paid, I had a call after I checked in asking if I was gonna check in I said I already did then was asked if I paid. I didn't have any trouble but wished I had a receipt to prove it I paid cash
- Verified traveler (6/5): Different - Wanted to stay here to experience the restaurant. Herman was awesome. Great food, wine and service. The upstairs rooms were very dated but clean. We should have stayed somewhere else and just drove to the restaurant.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great downtown location. - Very clean and large room. Very old decor and mattress. Check in staff not friendly. Loved location and restaurant.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel is very clean, but check in & check out were uncomfortable. You have to check in normally at the deli which is closed for renovations so you check in at the restaurant next door where I waited at the front entrance while the hostess looked for our reservation after seating someone for the restaurant. It was just unprofessional. I realize it probably isn't a very busy hotel, but it should be somewhat seperate from the other businesses. The entrance is off an alley, but seemed very safe just rundown. I didn't like just leaving my keys in room and not seeing an actual person when I was checking out. I didn't get an invoice just signed the credit slip. I would stay again because the check in process really was my only issue.
- Daniel (2/5): This place is horrible, and I'll never go back. - First, the room we were given wasn't the room I'd booked. The wallpaper was beginning to peel, the shower leaked, and the plumbing in our bathroom, and the one next to us, was extremely loud. Turning the shower on took more than 10 minutes of guesswork and elimination, and dealing with the thermostat was horrible. I wouldn't book this hotel for my dog.
- Josie (8/5): Old School - Absolutely adorable! Far from mondern, but that is part of the charm. Extremely clean. Wonderful deli with amazing bakery goods - authentic real German eating. Owner of hotel owns the attached Deli and restaurant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Gr8 - This was a business trip, but it felt like vacation
The stay was relaxing and peaceful the the dinner was the best
And so I had to stay until lunch
Chef and the staff are the best and most accomodating
You need to stay here, you will not be disappointed
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pleasant Surprise - We took a color tour by train of the Cadillac countryside into Boyne Falls. Hermann's came up in a Google search. We arrived on a Friday evening and were greeted in Hermann's Deli by Hermann. Hotel guests check in at the deli. The 7 hotel rooms are located above the storefront and accessed from the alley behind the building. Parking is designated for hotel guests. The police monitor the lot 3-4 times per evening.
All 7 rooms were occupied that weekend. Our room was quaint and very clean. Even with the restaurant below the room was fairly quiet. The bed was a bit soft to my taste but we were comfortable. There was no refrigerator - not an issue for us. A coffee pot and hair dryer were provided; extra blankets and pillows were in the closet. Wi-fi was temperamental.
NOTE: Finding breakfast on Sunday morning was a challenge. Hermann's Deli and Cafe are open seasonally on Sundays. Most of downtown Cadillac was closed for the day. A short drive north of downtown provided several options including Bob Evans.
- Emily (10/5): Very Nice Place - Went to Cadillac for the beer festival and thoroughly enjoy our stay. The rooms were awesome and very clean. The staff was friendly and the food was great. We would definitely come back.
- Ursula (8/5): Comfortable and convenient - The rooms are a bit outdated, but very clean. The only complaint I have about the room itself is that the pillows needed to be changed. The hotel is only 2 blocks off of the lake and is right downtown. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the staff there were very friendly.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Smokey room a deal breaker, staff unavailable - I had a very late night arrival, so the staff called to let me know they would be closed but they would leave the key in the room for me. When I arrived, the [non-smoking] room reeked of cigarette smoke. First thing I tried to do was open the windows, but they had a sign that said the security alarm would sound if you open the windows. Had the front desk been open, I would have asked for a room change, as I am asthmatic and very sensitive to smoke. I was not able to find any staff in the morning to turn my keys in and to discuss the smokey room, so I just left the keys in the room and left. The bed was like a board. Towels were fluffy and soft, and soap and shampoo were nice. The place was cute (dated, but that's sort of the theme they're going for), and I've heard the food is good (didn't have time to try it). However, I wouldn't stay again. Smokey room is a health hazard and a deal breaker for me.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great vacation spot - Great service, all necessities in one spot, excellent restaurant, planning to return and have recommended to family
- chris (8/5): Nice clean stay. - Nice and clean. Pillows sucked. AC could be better.
- kevin (8/5): Right downtown - Decided to take a chance on staying in a 'different' hotel. This is part of the Chef Hermann's businesses- which are associated with his cooking. Glad we did. Staff was welcoming. The room was surprisingly large. Two queen beds, fairly large fitting area. It's a revamped upstairs from his restaurant. The quirky- you check in at the deli. The front access is up a fairly steep stairs or his a back parking lot entrance across a catwalk. We will use again. A great value.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Worth the mystery - Unconventional place. Ran into the owner as he exited the building. Luckily, because there is no direction otherwise. Hotel is above a restaurant and deli (both excellent). Supposedly either place would have provided a way to register and check-in. Upon settling after a gracious welcome from the owner, I sunk into a well-appointed, beyond expectation spacious setting. It was too inviting to call it a mere "room." Hotel located in downtown Cadillac with all storefronts filled in historic buildings. Everything within walking distance, including a lake and excellent library.
