• thomasmP6676WR (10/5): Above & Beyond! - Just got back for a beautiful trip to Mackinaw City. Stayed at the Rainbow Motel and it was great. Clean, quiet, centrally located, and wonderful people. We stayed three days and decided to come home a day early. I informed the owners that we would be leaving the next morning. They said that they would try to rent it out and if they did, they would refund my payment! Well, we got home and they called to ask our credit card number so they could process our refund! Who does that?!? Beyond amazing! Thank you so much.

• Michael (10/5): - We selected the Rainbow Motel for its high rating but after checking in, it became apparent that the rating system needs to be updated to enable a higher rating. This motel is in the style of a 1960’s roadside motel but I feel like I was the first person to stay in it. So clean and well maintained. Laura, who checked us in was a sweetheart.

This is a classic old motel, very well kept and very well run.b process are reasonable in the area, and it's easily walkable to dining or shopping. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend.

We were able to walk to the ferry and could have saved $3 on tickets if only we'd had cash! She had tons of tips for us and gave us coupons and suggestions for local eats--that's on top of the reasonable price and clean, comfortable room!

• GailP210 (10/5): Great Experience With a Friendly Staff - We stayed at the Rainbow based on Trip Advisor reviews and were not at all disappointed. The location is handy to the ferry services with periodic shuttle service to the ferry docks. Our room was fresh and clean and close to other activities in Mackinaw City. The owners were super friendly and suggested sites, restaurants, and landmarks in the area. We will definitely stay there again when we visit Mackinaw Island next time. Five stars on this motel!

The bathrooms are wonderfully modern, the room size and building the 50's and the bedroom decor the 80's with a fridge that had a freezer (bonus!!) It was so very welcoming and comforting. It didn't feel staged but rather that you were sleeping over at a friend or family members home. a very clean family members home!! Their touches in the "backyards" were a treat for old and young - from basketball & putting green to the little Mighty Mac and Gazebo..... WELL DONE RAINBOW OWNERS!!!

Extremely clean and the grounds are beautiful. Each and every time we're here, it's always the same experience. You are close to anything you would like to see in the city. It's an older motel but very clean I would rather have old and clean than new and dirty. There are grassy places outside to sit and enjoy.,very centrally located for all Macinaw activities.

• robertlH6113ZV (10/5): Blast from the past with mod cons and friendly rates - Nostalgic family-owned 1960s-era motel which used to be all over America but now are few and far between. Very well maintained property with local owners on site at all times during our stay. Very reasonable room rates. Excellent location for downtown Mackinac City or the Island ferry. We did not have time to use the indoor pool and hot tub but they looked fine. Right on the main drag and close to many restaurant or fuel options. Room was tidy with king bed and parking right outside the door. Nostalgic decor and bathroom with shower/tub. Friendly, helpful owners in lobby. Note, morning coffee in lobby only, no in-room coffee but does have fridge, microwave and TV. Through-the-wall heat and A/C unit worked well if a bit noisy. Otherwise quiet with sound of spring peeper frogs from the nearby wetlands.

• boingo234 (10/5): Awesome stay in Mackinac - Let me preface this review by saying I am sorry it is so long. Many nice things to say about the Rainbow Motel. I have been coming to Mackinac for many, many years and probably have driven by the Rainbow Motel and never really knew how great a place it was. We read the reviews from other guests and they were absolutely correct. This is a great little place to stay. If you are looking for fancy hotel and a place with a huge room, this may not be the place for you. If you are looking for a place that is clean, quiet and the most friendly owners, you need to stay here. Upon check-in, we were greeted with a friendly smile and greetings from one of the owners and also by a super cute dog who jumped on the counter to greet us and gave me the sweetest doggie kisses as well. I felt at home. The rooms are small, as is the bathroom, but so very clean and comfortable. It was so quiet at night and we were able to sit on the streetside patio and people watch and in the back is a replica of the Mackinac Bridge with a beautiful gazebo that you can also use. We will never stay anywhere else when we visit again. So much more I could say, but if you are looking for a good deal, with quiet and clean rooms and very wonderful owners, this is the place to stay. Can't wait until we return!!

• babusIndiana (10/5): Great Place. - Spent a Tuesday evening and a Friday evening in August. Reservations went smoothly, as did Check IN, both times. The Friday was $50 more than Tuesday, because it was a weekend during high season. The motel wasn't full. It was quiet and clean. I always try to stay here. It is clean and simple. Ground level and parking near your door. A clean indoor pool, and 2 hot tubs make this place special. They also have a little play area for kids. The price goes up every year, but I continue to support their efforts to stay open. I always enjoy my visit. This time I do have one small complaint and maybe it is just my preference. I thought the bed sheets had too strong of a fragrance and it bothered my sinuses a bit. I would rather not really smell a fragrance--maybe just soap or a bit of bleach. With all of the allergies folks have today, this could hamper return visitors. Hopefully it is just something they got on sale, and is a temporary smell.

Great location, no more than a few blocks from everything we had planned. There was also a pool and two hot tubs and several options to sit outdoors. Some of the furnishings are a little dated and the bathroom was small, but everything was well maintained and very clean. Wish we had been able to stay longer. We would definitely choose to stay again!

• Rebecca (10/5): Great place in Mackinaw City - This is an old-style, independent, family-owned motel. Solid room, good hot shower, and very friendly staff. We got good recommendations about places to eat, how to get to Mackinac Island, and even where the best day sky star-viewing could be found. They have set up a number of outdoor seating areas so when I needed to be out of the room so my husband could take a business call, I found a lovely spot in the shade to sit and read my book. I got the sense that they have a lot of regulars who return every year. Parking was easy--right outside our room.

It's a family run and the owners are very helpful with questions on the fun things to do in mackinaw. This is the only place we stay at. All rooms come with microwave and fridge.

• nabrown29 (10/5): Great Experience! 10 stars! - Absolutely the best stay ever. We booked this motel based on reviews and we are sure glad we did. The rooms are smallish but very clean and cozy. The bed was comfy too. The owners were wonderful people that feel like friends after the first hello. They were so helpful with services and referrals. The motel offers lots to do for kids on the grounds and we were even privliged to see the owners restored Scooby Doo Mobile. So fun! Our guys played cornhole and we gals walked along the nearby trails. Whenever we mentioned to folks where we were staying, we always received glowing comments about the Motel and the owners. We will definitely stay again if in the area and highly recommend this location.

The bed and pillows were excellent and we enjoyed our night stay. The yard is beautiful with all the plants and they have a pool and a jacuzzi but we did not use them. The pool area looked really clean. We would definately stay there again. I loved the vintage look of the shower with the tile and tile floor. Great and thanks. • Ronald (10/5): Great place to stay - Spent one night on the way to Mackinac Island. It was close, reasonable, clean and the perfect place for the night. It was like going back in time but was in very good condition. Reminded me of my parents house.

Across the street from marina, so a nice respite from staying aboard. Best part was the people from the owner to the office staff. They are all great people.

Nothing fancy, but it was a great price, clean, within walking distance to town and ferry docks. Our room was a king #105 on an end. It had what we needed as we were only in the room to sleep and shower. We did use the pool which was fine. The indoor hot tub was much hotter than the one outside. Great stay. Rooms would look so much better with new bed spreads.

• Kristi (10/5): Great motel - The Rainbow Motel was perfect for our one night stay before headed to Mackinac Island. It was clean and the owners/employees were so friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.

• bigmaccy2013 (10/5): Awesome place to stay - The Rainbow motel in Mackinaw city is the cleanest, neatest, friendliest place around!! They are close to most of the towns events, with all the comforts of home. A gorgeous back yard to set in, an indoor pool and an indoor and out door jacuzzi. I wouldn’t stay away where else !

• 181tarahs (10/5): Amazing! - Very clean rooms and the beds/bedding was very comfortable. The pool/spa was awesome, clean and water was warm. The location was very convenient and everything is walkable. Owners are amazing, had fun cars including the scooby mobile and we had a great time.
• Lorraine (10/5): - This place has a charming retro feel. Probably built in the 1950s, when people were content with small, spare rooms. Not luxurious but it has everything you need and is immaculately clean.

• Pamela (8/5): - This place is an old Motel. I love the fact that people are saving these motels. It had the beautiful old pink bathroom reminds me of Route 66. They even had a real key. The place was extremely clean and the owners were so friendly. My only problem was the slight musty smell in the room. I’m extremely allergic to mold so it was a concern. However I WOULD actually stay here again. Clean, friendly, perfect area to walk to shops, restaurants, and the beach. They even have an old scooby doo mystery machine van.

• richardmG9968RY (10/5): Sailed In, Left With A Smile - Wonderful service! Laura (the owner) found me a room when I got stranded without a car. Then the next morning she found me a vehicle to get back to Chicago (a U-Haul truck), then refused to let me get an Uber, drove me over The Bridge to get the truck, then waited so I could follow her back to the motel. The Rainbow is clean, quiet, and locally famous for its service. It's an easy three blocks from the ferries to Mackinac Island and all of the shops and restaurants. What a wonderful place. Six (6) stars.
