- Johnathan (10/5): - Fantastic property with a breathtaking view. The hotel cleaners and the on site manager William were amazing. We booked the standard room that had everything we needed. We woke up several mornings to monkeys which we thought was awesome! There are a few other animals that are often on site as well. Yes, there are bugs at the property but it is Costa Rica so naturally there will be bugs. You can tell the rooms are a little older but nothing was broken. The bed was pretty terrible. It was extra firm and the pillows were pretty old. They weren’t smelly or anything just super flat. Overall, I’d still recommend staying here. It was affordable compared to others, awesome view, and excellent customer service. Now if you are going to walk around to restaurants or the beach, be warned, there are some hills! Like steep hills but it is great exercise.
- Sandra (10/5): - William Mena, our host at the Villas was incredibly helpful in booking our excursions, sharing recommendations, educating us about the area, sharing experiences with Yogie, the sloth who lives on the property as well as inviting us to experience a troop of capuchin monkeys eating bananas from the property. From the moment I booked our rooms, William made contact with me to find out if the rooms were our best fit and to find out what our plans were in the area. From there, he was instrumental in booking our tours and keeping us updated on times, meeting places and recommendations to make the experiences as comfortable as possible. William was such an important part of making our trip run smoothly. Our rooms were very comfortable and had such a breathtaking view of a small island and the surrounding ocean. Just lounging on the hammocks on our porch watching sailboats go by while listening to the ocean, birds, and various animals was completely relaxing. We would have had an equally amazing time just relaxing at the Villas taking in the sounds and smell of nature. I cannot say enough good things about William and the Villas. I would definitely stay there again if I’m fortunate enough to visit the area again. And I would consider myself lucky if William is still there. I cannot express enough gratitude to him. Thank you, William!
- Krishna (4/5): - Dated property, pictures did not reflect the actual condition of the room and bathrooms. Too many bugs in the room, tried to cancel after 1 night of stay but property owner refused to refund. They did oblige request to do a bug cleaning while we stepped out but they kept coming back due to cracks In the shower and the cabinets in the kitchen. A private property listed in Expedia (we avoid airbnb for this reason and always book hotels professionally maintained but Expedia is listing small private properties as hotels which is unfortunate).
- Serena (10/5): - A big THANK YOU to William! He was always available to answer our questions and to help us whenever we needed something. The property has the BEST views in Manuel Antonio! You will see more wildlife in your backyard than in the National Park. There's a beach nearby (Playa Espadilla), a little bit of a downhill walk but do-able. I'd highly recommend taking the bus anywhere & everywhere. It is so convenient and affordable. The staff works very hard at cleaning and maintaining the hotel. The only thing is that the rooms are a little outdated... maybe some renovations, specifically filling of the cracks and holes as a lot of bugs/lizards tend to come in the room especially when it rains. We weren't really bothered by it much because it's Costa Rica after all! I love Villas de la Selva and I would definitely stay here again!

- Kathryn (10/5): - What a gorgeous place; we visited here for a couple days and wish it was longer! We will be back. Communication from Villas De La Selva was excellent with Simon setting up a tour for us and providing important information. He was there with a friendly smile to greet us when we arrived; he showed us to our villa and was available throughout our visit. The room itself was exactly as described and had an incredible view of the ocean. We made ourselves breakfasts here in the mornings and had visits from the monkeys! You’ll see all sorts of wildlife here! The gorgeous beach is a five minute walk down the hill and there are dining options around. Highly recommend La Terraza which is just next door. We felt so welcomed here; it felt like home. Thank you for an exceptional experience!

- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic view and staff - Upon arrival a monkey visited us and the staff sliced fruit for my daughter to feed her. The best view of the ocean was our room balcony. Every morning on our balcony we had coffee and enjoyed the view and sounds of Costa Rica. Our kitchen had everything we needed to have an easy breakfast and go to our adventures without having to use up time at a restaurant. The beach just down below us so my wife enjoyed her morning walks. It was a great stay

- Verified traveler (4/5): Hotel not as advertised - Cons: 1. We booked a room for 3 people with a Queen and double bed however were given a room for 2 people consisting of a double bed and fold out chair bed, which was basically cushions on the floor, without any adjustment in price and told it was due to an error on hotel.coms side 2. Messaged about having a late check in as we had a lengthy drive and were told check in ended at 9 and if we were to arrive late to find another hotel 3. There is no actual reception area/desk, instead you have to ring a bell, which we rang numerous times upon arriving within the check in time frame with no response and had to call and wait 10 minutes for someone to show up and let us into our room 4. There is no one that we saw on the property monitoring guests, which would have been helpful when guests starting feeding wildlife disrupting our attempt to enjoy the pool 5. There is no beach accessibility from the property. It is a steep walk along the road to access the beach Pros: 1. Nice views of the beach 2. Able to see monkeys during stay
- Beverly (6/5): Beautiful views but needs some updates - This hotel has pros and cons. Pros: beautiful water view especially of sunrise and sunset from private balcony. My Balcony also had a hammock. Another pro is a very helpful young man who works there who will help you with your bag up and down the numerous large steps all over the property (it is built on a steep hill). It is near enough to the beach to walk - 5 minutes. Also, very clean. Cons: it looks like there is a hot tub and pool but the hot tub water flows into the pool. The hot tub is not hot and the pool is actually hotter and too hot to swim. Also No lights at the pool after dark so you are swimming in the dark. The pillows were terrible. Everything needs renovation. Both my sliding door and screen door would not close or lock properly, same with the room safe. The furniture looked like scraps you would put in a college dorm. The kitchen was not usable- they provide nothing, not even salt/pepper/sugar/coffee. No kettle or even a pot - just a very scratched hot pot and griddle. The microwave only worked on “pizza”. The nearby “grocery stores” within walking distance are outrageously expensive- you will spend a lot more trying to cook than eating out if just 1-2 people. The price vs what you get is not aligned The views and balconies however really are wonderful. Just know what you are getting beforehand.

The property is on a cliff and the pool was a steep walk. Our room was on street level which I was happy to have.

The only request from the hotel is to provide a little information about transportation available and local services. An economical room with a kitchenette allowed for us to enjoy breakfast on our balcony overlooking the ocean. We had monkeys visit once and managed to see toucans and a macaw over coffee!

- Blair (8/5): - Great view!! Rooms are simple, but the AC blows cold. No breakfast service but there is a kitchenette with a coffee maker etc. Need to remember to bring your own. No ice maker but there is a fridge/freezer with a 10 cube tray. Good location though parking is a little tight and located on a steep hill and sharp curve. Stairs are a little difficult to navigate with luggage and rain.

- Janice (8/5): - Well-eqipped kitchenette (hob, oven, coffee maker, microwave). Saw more wildlife from our balcony than we saw in the national park! Downsides were no toiletries or hairdryer. It is perched on the side of a very steep hill. We are quite fit but struggled.
- chris (10/5): If you're seeking wildlife this is your place. - If you're going to Costa Rica to see wildlife and great ocean views then Villas de la Selva is your place. We spent a half hour in the pool just watching the capuchin monkeys playing and climbing around the buildings. And a two toed sloth was sleeping in one of the trees on the property and we got to see it climb around at night. Also the iguanas were just hanging out in the grass and agoutis would cruise through looking for insects. And we could often hear the howler monkeys howling in a nearby tree.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - FALSE advertising. The property offered a comfort room with a King size Bed and a Twin size. When we arrived, not only was the room being repaired, but it had a Double bed and a fold out cushion-couch. When we asked to have a room as listed - we were offered a room with another Double bed and a Twin. When we pointed out that this was not what was advertised, and after calling Expedia for assistance - the owner offered to “upgrade” us to a larger room with 2 double beds - but only if we paid an additional $15/night. She then proceeded to get into a verbal argument when we said that this was not acceptable, and we asked her to refund the amount. She refused - and after having Expedia call her a Second Time, she Still refused to provide 1) what she advertised and 2) a refund. At this point, we did not feel safe staying there (she was very irate and downright disrespectful). We ended up going to a different property altogether, and had to open a dispute on the credit card charge for services Never Rendered. We posted a review on Google as well - turns out we aren’t the only people who have had an unpleasant experience with the owner!

- WILL (8/5): - Really enjoyed the monkeys who came by every afternoom. Manuel, the property manager, came to our deck to tell us a moma Slouth with a baby was in a tree on site. Showed us where to look. He has ropes strung cresting monkey highway. Squirel, White Face, & Howler monkeys all used it.
- jia (10/5): Great hotel - We stayed here for two nights in Jan 2020. We were very impressed by so many animals we saw.... a lot of monkeys, two big lizards, one howler monkey, hummingbird, and other birds. The double room was a little small, but the view was awesome. The manager was very nice and very friendly. We were very happy with our stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Gorgeous views but very basic - Views are incredible. Location is good but a further walk to the beach than expected. The room is very basic. No soap or shampoo. The extra bed was just cushoins on the ground covered by a sheet.

- Lindsay (2/5): DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!! TERRIBLE SERVICE! - This was the worse customer service I have ever experienced. We booked the hotel in advanced and unfortunately we had to leave Costa Rice earlier than expected due to a family crisis. We couldn't call the hotel to cancel as we had no phone there, and needed to immediately go to the airport. The hotel charged me $90 even though we didn't stay with them, and when I returned to the U.S. and called them to ask for a refund they were incredibly rude! They didn't want to refund me the money and they didn't care what I had to say. Very rude and unprofessional. If you care about how the hotel treats you or behaves if you need something, please do not go there. I had great experience in every other hotel in Costa Rica. Everyone was amazing except for the people from this hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Dirty, rats, and bugs - If you want to stay at a hotel with rats in the room, big gaps in the doors letting bugs and rodents in, restroom with windows in the shower and no curtains, and rooms whose sheets are not washed, then look no further.

- Glamgirl09 (10/5): - Manuel was really helpful and gave us a great introduction to the property.We were in room 3 and the views were absolutely amazing. Very inquisitive monkeys in the grounds that came right up to your balcony and around the pool so you need to keep an eye on your things. Lovely clean pool and well kept grounds. Parking out the front was always available. Didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment but excellent restaurant within walking distance. Fairly short drive away from Manuel Antonio National Park.
- Tanya (8/5): Monkeys yes..... luxury no... - If you read through the reviews previously posted there are no surprises when you arrive. Monkeys are everywhere and definitely the best part of staying at this hotel. The rooms are adequate and comfortable. We didn’t have hot water the first night, found Manuel the property manager the next day and he turned it on. (Not sure why it was turned off to begin with, made for a very uncomfortable first shower there). There is a magnificent view of the water, although some wires and roofs in the way but nothing we can do about that. The beach access is open till 5 pm everyday with entry through the hotel below. The 100meter hike is a strenuous steep hike to the beach but worth it with a near private beach below. If looking for luxury, not your place. If looking for daily monkey visits, definitely your place.

- Noah (10/5): Incredible sunsets and close to the beach - The staff at Villa de la Selva were so friendly and welcoming. Our room had two hammocks on the deck which were so comfortable and relaxing at the end of every day in Manuel Antonio. Breakfast was delicious and although the walk was STEEP on the way back the property is walking distance to the beach. We saw a number of ants in our room as mentioned in other reviews but they didn’t bother us. We brought a few ant traps with us because of the other reviews but wound up not needing them. The view for sunset was incredible. There were several sloths, monkeys and lizards in the garden and trees which were so fun to see every morning. The location was a short 10 minute drive from Manuel Antonio National park and 2-5 minutes drive or a 10 minute walk from great restaurants.

- Patti (10/5): - sunset views where great! Very close to public beach just outside of manuel antonio nat park.Very well kept pool on property as well as a kitchen offering resonable food and beverages.Lots of fun monkeys to watch. We did drive to Quepos a couple of time to go on boat tours,but the tour company will pick you up and bring you back thats a nice option. Easy access to grocery stores and restuarants.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Unbelievable ocean view balconies & kitchenette. Perfect location. Walking distance to heavenly beaches, downtown & the national park. Monkeys who come up to your balcony. Beds are comfortable, showers clean, kitchenette well stocked. We stayed 4 nights & loved everything about our visit. The pool is clean, warm & beautiful & they have a small attached restaurant with incredible hospitality. Romantic, scenic, lovely & convenient. EXCELLENT CHOICE.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We LOVED our time here! We stayed in the "family house" with the 2 beds and kitchen. The monkeys were right outside in the trees, the ocean view is fabulous and the family that runs this place plus Manuel took amazing care of us! We could enjoy the pool, walk down the hill to the beach or relax in a hammock on our porch. We had dinner by the pool and a couple of traditional breakfasts there as well. Our children had fun interacting with the monkeys and we also saw macaws, a toucan fly by, plus a few other jungle animals walk by early morning. Super welcoming environment for anyone(couples, singles, families, travelers from all over)! Manuel greeted us when we arrived and checked in daily. Very attentive and friendly! We felt safe, relaxed and comfortable here! Plus, the location is so convenient to the national park! Tons of great restaurants nearby too. Plenty to do!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Saw a lot of wildlife around the property - monkeys. Sloths and iguanas up close, even better view than at the forest! The owner was very polite, knowledgeable about the area and helpful overall. Great place. Highly recommend
- Donna (8/5): Good view, sweet housekeeper, ask questions - Pros: cute, quiet place, balcony with fan, hammock, view of ocean, equipped kitchenette, great pool, friendly staff (when they are around) Cons: no hot water, no wifi password in room, and office apparently only open for check-ins. I was (accidentally?) locked into my room with a padlocked, screened security gate (outside the regular wooden door that bolts shut) and had to make my way off the balcony and around the muddy landscaping in the dark to open it from the outside. There wasn't anyone around the next day to find out what happened. Advice: communicate when you check in about wifi and on checkout procedure since the office was closed. And about the room's front security gate! FYI, the same key opened both unmarked padlocks (on the front and balcony iron gates), PLUS the padlock on the vacant room next door. However, I imagine there hasn't been thefts or we would have read it here.
- C (8/5): Nice hotel near the beach - Very helpful staff. Amazing views, nice pool, entertaining monkeys and a short but steep walk down to the beach. Accèss is via a neighbouring hotel but de Selva seems to have right of way. No restaurant but several options nearby. Rooms could be cleaner.
- Kendra (10/5): - Wonderful stay. The room is the perfect size with a great deck. There is a little kitchenette if you would like to cook a simple breakfast. Nice size fridge. Room 1 has amazing views of the ocean. If you leave a banana out on the deck several monkeys will come to eat them! My only complaint is that the parking is not convienent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Loved it! - We loved staying here. The balcony has a great view of the ocean and sunsets, plus a hammock to relax in. But the best part are all the monkeys that come by several times per day, and all the other animals we saw there (agoutis, iguanas, lizards, bats, birds). The location is great, close to restaurants and national park, walking distance to the beach. We enjoyed the pool, beautiful view. And everyone was very friendly and nice. My kid didn't like few ants/bugs in the room (didn't bother me :-). Oh and they don't give you shampoo (just soap).
- michael (8/5): View was worth it - The best feature of the hotel was the beautiful view of the ocean. I felt that was what I was paying for and I was not disappointed. It was a long steep walk to the beach, which was tough on an older couple but we managed. Parking was a little treacherous also due to the location on top of a hill with a curve, but again we managed with no incidents.
- Vivian (8/5): Cute hotel with friendly staff - We had a nice room with a terrace facing the ocean. Staff was friendly but was sometimes hard to find someone to ask questions. The room sometimes had toilet or sewage smell but if you keep the toilet lid down it helped. There was a little kitchenette which was useful! The only down side is if you are taking public transport...the hotel is in a tricky spot... right on an incline so we had to walk up or down hill to catch a bus. Otherwise it was a very nice place and very scenic.
- Vaughn (8/5): Would stay here again. - Good value with local vibe on the side of a hill. Great view of the Pacific from the terrace. Short walk to the beach. About 1.5 mile walk to the Manuel Antonio Park. 5 mile drive north to Quepos and good local food, but lots of shops and and more touristy restaurants very close. The hotel staff was always around if you needed anything. Very friendly.

- Martin (10/5): A little gem. - Great small hotel. Wonderful friendly staff and a fantastic view over the jungle to the pacific ocean. I would go back again. Lovely pool and close to restaurants. Like everywhere in the region, you have to take on the hills if you are walking. Recommend not walking at night unless it's to the excellent restaurant next door.
