Guest Reviews
- Diana (10/5): Great Stay - We stayed at Wayside the night before we were catching a ferry to Mackinac Island. The rooms were completely remodeled - new paint, carpet, bathrooms, etc. Very clean and comfortable stay. The staff was super friendly and helpful - they called to let us know about an item we left in the room and called the ferry shuttle to pick us up. Overall great stay and service!
- Jeffrey (8/5): - Room was clean but very dated. Bed was ok not terrible but not that comfortable. Not the best value imo. Woman at desk was friendly during check in.
- Dale (8/5): - Enjoyed being able to sit outside and enjoy the evening with the chairs that were provided very comfortable atmosphere will visit again
- Katherine (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay. Nothing fancy but was perfect for us. Very clean, roomy, updated and had what we needed. Loved the area. A 5-10 minute walk to the Ferry and downtown for some shopping and restaurants. A couple of things that I would add/change but am not complaining because you can’t beat the price for our stay. Nice to have-if there was a towel rack in the bathroom, nice to have-if there was just a light in the bathroom so the fan didn’t come on all the time and lastly move the lamps above our beds because they are low and we kept hitting our heads on them if sitting in bed. Lol Overall, a very nice stay and the owners were so helpful with whatever we needed.😊
- Jim (10/5): - We were passing thru the area and needed lodging for the evening. This motel had a very clean room with what appeared to be new fixtures, windows, paint, etc. We would definitely stay here again.
- Leah (10/5): - Worked out great. Quick overnight stop to get to our actual location the next day. Friendly staff, very clean room, loved the fact that the mattress and box spring had bed bug protectors on them (I always check mattresses). Easy in and out.
The room was large and bathroom even had a small window. Appreciated the "family run, small buisness" feel and would stay again. Thank you!
- Kristina (8/5): - The staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are updated and quite clean. Be ready for a bit of noise from other rooms, plumbing, and the road. But overall it was a great value.
- Sandra (10/5): - Super clean, nicely updated rooms, very clean and neat inside and out. Loved it!
- Scott (10/5): - Helpful service, good property, great location.
- Joshua (10/5): - Great pleace to stay. Very clean
- Elizabeth (10/5): - They were helpful with breakfast options, a discount on ferry tickets, and parking
- Roger (10/5): - Very clean. Comfortable. Quiet. Friendly staff. Convenient to Shepler’s Ferry and restaurants. Up to date rooms. Great value.
- Thomas (10/5): - Comfortable, could walk to the ferry dock, great check in and easy check out. Would stay here again.
- Robert (10/5): - Old school feel
- Doreen (10/5): - Very nice stay
- Aseel (8/5): - Clean, easy parking and good location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This motel probably could use some updating however it was quiet, centrally located to downtown and ferry docks and day trips to Drummond Island, Whitefish Point, Tahquamenen Falls. The couple who operate it are very friendly, accommodating and professional. A nice change from the major hotel chains. Room was roomy. The fridge was small but worked which was a plus for us. Would stay there again.
- William (10/5): - The room was clean, quiet, bed was comfortable, it had wifi and the bathroom was clean and updated.
- Randy L. or Susan (10/5): - Super clean bathroom and sleeping area. The exterior is a throwback to the 60s motorcourt era but that hides a modern, comfortable room. The manager/owner was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again and recommend it to our friends.
- Shannon (8/5): - The front desk person was very nice and gave us suggestions on where to eat and what to visit during our stay, and let us know about the Saturday night fireworks. The hotel is older, so smelled a little musty when we first went in, but once the a/c was on, it seemd to go away. It was a nice sized room, with a fridge, microwave, tv and small table to sit at.
- Charles (10/5): - Clean, convenient and within walking distance of boats to the Island.
- Michael (10/5): - Clean rooms. Nothing fancy. All I needed was a clean comfortable place to stay and this place met those requirements.
- Chris (8/5): - Very basic room with dated furnishings that somehow look brand new. Everything was spotless. Great bed and cable selections. No breakfast. Security is an issue, as they still use old-style keys you insert into the doorknob instead of the deadbolt, making it easy for someone to jimmy when you're out of the room.
- Michael (10/5): Multi stop trip - Great remodeled bathroom
- Amy (10/5): - Very clean, quiet and convenient to the ferry to Mackinaw. Loved the small family feel.
- William (10/5): - Great clean and friendly pace. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and ferry.
- Ted (10/5): - It was a throwback in the best possible way. Great experience
- Eric (10/5): - Extremely clean room, very convenient location! The owner checked us in (very friendly) and they even have discount tickets for the ferry to Mackinac Island! Highly recommend this cute motel.
- Rafael (10/5): Perfect Location - Perfect location, very friendly, knowledgeable staff. Room was very clean, comfortable bed, and excellent shower.
Easy walk to the ferry.
- Janice (10/5): - Very nice clean comfortable place to stay.
- Jenny (10/5): - It was a great location. Close to the ferry.
And clean hotel.
- Charles (10/5): - Our king room was spacious and very clean and comfortable. A hook in the bathroom might be nice to hang a robe or wet towel.
- michael (10/5): - .
- Lorri Jean (10/5): - Location was perfect. Room cost fit our budget but was still very nice.
- Tom (10/5): - Excellent
- Marissa (10/5): - The Wayside Motel is always clean and quiet.
- Tom (10/5): - Exceptional!
- James (8/5): - Nice property with owner pride showing. Comfy and perfect for a restful night with great shower.
- Debra (10/5): Excellent - We spent two nights here. It was a wonderful stay. Walking distance to the Ferry to Mackinac Island. Our room was very clean, comfortable beds, clean bathroom and nice hot shower. Highly recommend and would stay again if we get back up there again.
- Eric (8/5): - Owner was so helpful and friendly. Made our short stay very nice.
- Laura (10/5): - Rooms are not cramped. There is a coffee pot, microwave and fridge. Right off the main street through town. A small hotel that isn't crammed full of people.
- Anthony (10/5): - A friendly welcome by staff upon arrival to the older, one floor motel style accommodation that has been remodeled throughout. Room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. Hsk daily, unless requested otherwise. Reasonably priced and convenient to the Ferry Dock for trips to Mackinac Island. Will definitely stay again!
- Charles (10/5): - Nice quaint motel walkable to downtown st ignace and the marina. Great customer service.
- Alana (10/5): - We had such a great visit and will be coming back. Having never been to St Ignace, we read reviews of this motel and went for it.
We had a friendly, informative check in, a super clean room and were pleasantly surprised with the chairs that let us relax after a long day of driving on the main road. The property was kept up and I wish we lived closer to return on a regular basis. Thank you, we had a wonderful stay!
- Frank (6/5): - Basic, older motel but somewhat updated. Clean, comfortable, friendly owner, convenient location to ferry and restaurants.
- Kerry (10/5): - This is an old-school motel that we always stay at when in St. Ignace. Don't let the outside looks fool you. Even though it looks outdated, the rooms are very spacious, clean, and comfortable.
- Janet (8/5): - Very quiet, clean and comfortable. Could have used a towel rack in the bathroom - no place to hang our hand towel. The location was perfect to catch the ferry to Mackinac Island. (The asthetics regarding the grass around the building needed to be taken care of.) Other than that, we'd stay again.
- Amanda (10/5): Rwcommend - This place was a gem. It was very clean and quiet. Location was perfect and check in was a breeze. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would absolutely return again.
- John (10/5): Nice option in St Ignace. - Very nice Motel very close to the Mackinac Ferries. You could walk from the Motel to the Ferries without too much trouble. Room was clean and check on was easy and friendly.
- Barbara (10/5): - The room was very clean and it was very quiet and safe feeling. The staff was very friendly and everything we need was close by.
- Raymond (10/5): - It was very clean, quiet, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Also it was very easily accessible to the ferries and restaurants, either by veicke or walking.
- Jennifer (10/5): - This motel was exceptionally comfortable and spotlessly clean. Although I had driven past it numerous times, I had not given it much attention. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I needed a last-minute booking. I would highly recommend this motel, especially considering the cost savings associated with booking here.
- Tricia (10/5): - This was our 3rd stay Always clean and staff very friendly
- Keith (10/5): - Friendly staff.
- Thomas (10/5): - Very nice.
- Mark (10/5): - Comfortable rooms
- Brian (10/5): - Excellent place
- Michael S (10/5): Hidden gem - This place was a gem. The motel was very clean and the staff were friendly. I woild recommend this place to anyone in the area. Great price and great place.
- Gregg (10/5): Great place - Very nice hotel at a great rate. Check in was a breeze and desk very helpful, Room was clean and comfortable. Highly recommend
- William (10/5): - Very nice motel. Recent renovation. Sit outside and enjoy the evening.
- Jim (10/5): Love the retro vibe! - The Wayside Motel is a great place if you remember the motels of the 60's and 70's. The place is so clean. Another retro thing is the fact that housekeeping visits daily, which is exceedingly rare in today's hotel/motel market. This is my second stay here, and I don't think it'll be my last!
- Olivia (10/5): - Great location, very clean, bathroom recently updated
- Teresa (10/5): Great value - Great location with spacious rooms. The rooms are clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice St. Ignace Motel - A nice clean and comfortable place to stay and close to attractions..
- Timothy (10/5): Very Nice Motel - This is a comfortable motel. It is on the main road into St. Ignace and close to restaurants. It is also within walking distance to the ferry boats to Mackinac Island.
The rooms are spacious and clean. The rooms also have internet and cable television. I would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was clean. The bed was comfy. The service was friendly. The only issue was there was a constant sound coming from the heater that kept us awake most of the night. We didn’t complain, just figuring it’s because of how old the place is. Not too bad of a musty smell…had the windows open to air it out for couple hours before sleeping. Seemed to help.
- Ted (10/5): - Very clean and good price!
- Bob (10/5): - Nice family run motel. Friendly and helpful. Great location to ferry. No frills but very comfortable and good value.
- Justin (10/5): - The room was super clean and updated. One of the best roadside motels you will find. I would definitely stay here again.
- Dena (10/5): Lovely & clean roadside motel - Clean comfortable hotel w easy access from hwy. Checkin was a breeze and the staff was very friendly & welcoming. They even called to let me know I left something behind! Thank you!
- DEREK (10/5): - Easy to get to everything, comfortable beds!!
- Lori (10/5): Great hotel! - We will stay again!! The room was so clean, the beds were comfortable, perfect location!! Book this hotel; you won't be disappointed!!
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Very nice room for the price. Very clean, comfortable room.
- Devin (10/5): - Clean
- Harvey (8/5): - Good for the price
- Timothy J (10/5): - You won't be sorry choosing this motel. The room was cleaned daily; hot shower, comfortable bed, microwave and small refrigerator were more then adequate, close to downtown ferries and eateries. Do yourself a favor: stay here. Thank you.
- TRENT (10/5): - Great stay here! We will be back!
- MICHELE (10/5): - Very clean & simple "Mom & Pop" motel.
- Patrick (8/5): - Nice, clean, quiet property close to restaurants and ferries. Super nice people. Would stay again.
- Judith (10/5): - This motel was above expectations. Very clean. Easy check in. Convenient to town. Parking in front of each unit. We would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
- John (10/5): - Very nice old motel. Very friendly staff and convenient for ferry to Mackinac island
- Ellen (10/5): Nice and very clean - The place was extremely clean and very nice overall.
- ML (8/5): - Manager very helpful
- Rosemary (10/5): - Check in was great. Clean old school motel 😀
- Dawn (10/5): Definitely Will Stay Here Again - I booked this motel due to the many positive reviews I read. Reviews are accurate!!!! Management was very friendly and recommendations that we asked for were right on!!! Check-In was expeditious. Cleanliness of rooms was immaculate!!! Refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, small kitchen table with chairs....everything we could have wanted, clean and in great working condition. Bed was very comfortable. Thank You for a lovely stay :)
- dana (10/5): Pleasant Stay - This was a older hotel but I knew that when I booked it. Everything was great. The hotel staff was friendly and it was very clean. It was convenient to check in and they also offered discount ferry ticket. We will be booking with Wayside again.
- Rebecca (10/5): - The property manager was excellent!! I was ill prepared and didn't reserve enough night for my trip. I just called up the front desk and added on another night. It was super easy! Plus, the manager noticed I was looking at the ferry schedule for Mackinaw Island, so he offered cheaper ferry tickets and shuttle service that picks up right in the hotel parking lot! I was traveling with my 2 kids and their bedtime is earlier than mine but if I keep a light on they won't fall asleep. Well, this property has 2 seats outside the room door with a light. This was absolutely perfect for me to sit outside the room and read my book until I became tired. The only thing I consider being a negative was that the vending machine was out of order at the time. Yes, the office did have the drinks that would have been supplied by the vending machine, so it wasn't that bad.
- Marie (10/5): - The room was very clean. Had all the basics except for an ironing board. Staff was friendly and helpful at check in. Slight odor in room, but everything was kept very clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room we stayed in was very minimal but very clean and clean smelling. The negative things I noticed was the ceiling fan in the bathroom did not work well and the front doors all need to be painted. Other than some exterior work that needs to be done it was a great stay. The owner is working on remodel.
- Janet (6/5): - room could have used a good airing out. stale smell.
- Katie (10/5): - Cozy, cared for, small business
- Donn (10/5): - Excellent service. New towels and all new bedding for the second night. Totally cleaned room for our second night with them. Such a pleasurable experience for a small hotel. Doing everything right and very reasonable stay. Helpful with suggestions for eating and the ferry. Definitely will be our go to place in St. Ignace.
- James (10/5): - I am very impressed with the cleanliness of the room & friendliness of the gentleman who checked me in. As a lifetime Hilton Diamond member, this property doesn’t have all the amenities, but it is as clean or cleaner then most properties I’ve stayed in recently. Thank you for a nice stay!
- Laura (10/5): - We were looking for a place to stay for 2 nights that could accommodate a family of 4 in the St. Ignace area for under $500. We only wanted limited amenties- A TV, fridge, microwave, shower, linens (didn't need a fitness room, free breakfast, etc). This cute little motel was able to offer that. It was very quiet and appeared to be family owned. Given that the other lodging in this area was asking $500/NIGHT, this place fit the bill. The staff was very friendly. The only critique I have to offer was that parking was pretty tight, there was someone parked in front of our room. It is a premium location just a short walk from a non-swimming beach and also discount tickets to the Macinaw ferry.
- Jan (10/5): - The room and outside area was very clean. The gentleman in the office was very nice, friendly and helpful
- Kevin (10/5): Very good - Very nice old style motel. Room was very clean. AC worked well. Modern rooms and bathroom fixtures. Walking distance to ferry terminal. We would stay there again.
- Marianne (10/5): Great stay and so clean. - Not a fancy motel, but we had a wonderful stay! Great beds and pillows, CLEAN, cleaned and refilled daily, fridge and microwave, coffee and tea everything we needed. Front desk was so kind and answered questions and recommended anything I asked. Will certainly stay there again if we get back in the area. Great experience.
- Sean (10/5): - Very basic, but very clean and well kept. Everything worked perfectly and the staff were responsive and helpful. Very convenient location.
- Pamela (10/5): - Great little place to stay! Nothing fancy but clean great beds nice staff. I will recommend and stay here again!!
- Julia (10/5): Highly recommend - This is my first choice for places to stay while traveling to Mackinac Island. It is clean, comfortable, and affordable. Thank you, Wayside Motel!
