Guest Reviews
- Richard (5/5): - The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable No parking and the blinds in the bathroom were missing a few panels
- Jon (10/5): Great Value - Great value for money , decent sized room .Property gives you easy access into Brighton and surrounding areas and is only a 10 minute walk from Portslade Railway Station
- Nicole (8/5): Prima verblijf - De kamer met bank
- Latifah (7/5): Comfortable - Aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. No microwave or kitchen.
- João Carlos (8/5): - O quarto era muito espaçoso e confortável. O anfitrião era muito prestável e simpático.
- Jodi (9/5): Clean and comfortable for what I needed for the one night I stayed - It was perfect for the one night I stayed I was pleased I had my own bathroom loved the small sofa to make it feel like a lounge and it was very comfortable I found it really hard to find somewhere to park I had to park up a side road but it wasn’t to much of a hassle as I didn’t have a lot of luggage
- maria (8/5): -
- Clara (9/5): -
- Sinitta (10/5): Would stay again🙌🏼 - Easy to find , free parking , bright , well decorated , great access to Brighton with bus routes 🙌🏼🩷
- Gregg Kofi (8/5): I definitely stay again. Must fix the shower taps though - Great location Shower taps was faulty
- Maciej (9/5): -
- Thomas (9/5): -
- Serena (8/5): - Nice room and great value for money Not a massive negative but there’s only about 3 spaces in front of the property and they were all used and Links Road which was recommended for alternative parking only had space available in a “return within the hour” section between Monday and Saturday 9-6pm.
- SusanB (7/5): Useful location, comfortable bed. - Comfortable beds, easy check-in. Nice hot shower (not en-suite but there was a wash basin in the room). Kettle and small selection of coffee and teas. Small fridge - worked well but not plugged in when we arrived so took a while to cool down.
Hair dryer, iron and ironing board available.
Useful location for our stay, near to public transport (train and bus) to see family in Brighton. Location - on the main road but the noise was not too excessive. The main difficulty was parking - there were no spaces in the layby directly outside the property and there were "no parking" signs immediately in front. Links Road was recommended and we were able to get the last space down at the opposite end of the road to where the property is. Outside of 6pm to 8am, parking there was only available for one hour, no return in an hour so we had to leave sharpish in the morning.
Only two sockets in the room for tv, kettle, hair dryer and any mobile charging.

- Joy (9/5): It was a good night free from my comfort zone - The cold water for shower didn't come out
The shower water was too hot Noting in particular
- Julia (9/5): Very comfortable stay with Affan and the Clifton House team ensuring I had everything I needed. - The family running this guesthouse are extremely responsive and lovely to deal with.
The room was large, the bed comfortable and outlook onto trees was pleasant. My debit card was blocked by an over zealous
bank and consequently Booking.com cancelled my booking just days before arrival. This was very upsetting but fortunately I was able to rebook it. Booking.com should not put travellers in this precarious position.

- Claire (9/5): Very comfortable accommodation - Lovely room, very comfortable bed, good facilities & communication from owners, close to station. Would recommend. Difficult to adjust the shower temperature.
- Gary (8/5): Great find - Comfy clean room, was a superb last minute find.
Also, great communication with owners and happy to accommodate Bit close to the main road (noise wise) but I understand they have other rooms that aren't at the front so would love to try them next time.
- Emily (8/5): - I stayed in the double room with the private en suite, and it was lovely! The bed was super comfy (if you like a firm bed) and the pillows were lovely and soft. The room was also so fresh and clean. The window faces the garden, so nice and quiet as not facing the main road, and for the price of the room you get some much space. Amenities in the room were fab. Can't have asked for more really. Would absolutely recommend Clifton Guest House to anyone looking for a few nights stay in Portslade!
- David (7/5): -
- Sara (7/5): Personally it’s great value for money - The parking is a bit of a pain but I managed to get a space outside no issues.
Clean room, bedding and bathroom etc.
the fan was perfect and it’s so quiet as well
Bathroom was big enough and it was clean and tidy
I was on the top floor and you couldn’t hear any other guests The bed isn’t the best the mattress is rock hard
Options to watch on the tv is limited especially if you don’t have Netflix etc to log in your account
The inside of the kettle could do with a clean
- Roberto (8/5): -
- Mitchell (8/5): Good value - Good location close to Brighton Parking was a bit of a lottery, first come first served.
- Jane (7/5): Good for a couple of nights and convenient to where I was going. - The room was comfortable, with good facilities. Including a fridge and spare heater. Felt very private and spacious. Two flights of stairs to the top attic room, which was hard work, due to my case and arthritic knees. Had a problem turning the shower knob, as part of it was missing and made the shower too hot. The bed was really comfortable but the pillows didn’t smell particularly clean.
- Jenny (8/5): - The owners were v helpful when we arrived with facilitating parking and helping with a short circuit on our room.
Also appreciated extra tea bags and milk from basket in the hall.. We found curtaining in bathroom ineffective.
Otherwise everything nice.
- Joannw (10/5): Very helpful, very lovely - Very lovely people that run this very helpful couldn’t do enough
- Claire (7/5): I would stay again . - We were in room 4 and it was huge.
Very easy access instructions provided in good time before our visit.
- Alicia (9/5): Peaceful stay, quiet and comfy. - Quiet Awkward stairs
- Victoria (8/5): -
- Anke (8/5): Schone en rustige plek - De rust en het was schoon Het bed was te smal en te kort voor twee volwassen personen
- Maxwell E (10/5): I had a beautiful sleep - The property was very clean and quiet Nothing
- Viktorija (8/5): -
- Lionel (6/5): nice room - nice room
- Julia (7/5): Good location, reasonable price. - Very good location by bus route and train station. Also many choices of places to eat nearby. The large room with the en-suite was on the back of the house which helped to mute the traffic noise. The large bedroom smelled a bit like wet dogs, probably the very old carpet. I really dislike showers that aren’t contained. The whole floor gets wet and then you have to walk on that wet floor. There should be extra towels so we can dry the floor. No room service for two nights stay. The curb appeal is non existent. Really kind of scared me when we saw it.
- Sean (10/5): Clifton House Portslade - The room was very spacious with all amenities needed available in the room. The room was exceptionally clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. The entire property was very well decorated and the stay was really quiet. The property is also very close to the train station and local pubs and takeaway. We will be staying again
- Lilly (9/5): Great for the price. - The room was spacious, as well as the shared bathroom and toilet, which were kept clean. Only a 6 minute walk to the nearest train station, and only 10 minutes on the train to central Brighton, and a bus stop just outside the property. Aldi just around the corner.
- Susan (4/5): average - Our room at the top was lovely /clean however as we entered the front door downstairs entry it stunk of cats and the carpets were somewhat grubby. entrance hall and stairs
- Lydia (10/5): -
- Herman (10/5): - Amazing value for the money, like really, really good value . Staff great, I even had a very long phone call and blocked the driveway, and the staff was so kind and considerate dealing with it. Great experience overall. All good !
- Graysmark (10/5): Great will definitely be back ! House manager deserves a raise ! - Very easy to find and park . Great communication and details although was so easy didn't even need to communicate . Nice clean rooms and just all round nice stay thanks Nothing it was perfect
- Graham (10/5): Our trip to Brighton was made with the amazing accommodation that we had booked - The room was amazing; just as the photos.
- Manthila (6/5): It was okay -
- Westley (7/5): Good -
- Olga (9/5): Great location and has everything you need - recommend! - Location, amenities, easy check in Shower was not my favourite as water got all over the floor plus attic room gets quite hot although fans provided
- Sara (6/5): Cheap accommodation for short staying - This was a last-minute accommodation, and the price was reduced on Booking to a lower rate. I don't like this kind of place, but that is mainly me; the place was clean and affordable for one night. Collecting keys from a box, finding your room, and using the code, it all feel so impersonal. I tend not to support this type of business; it destroys the market.
- Gary (8/5): - Needed a place to stay for a few nights while I was at an event this place was good price check in was self service very simple to follow parking was easy on links road the guy on the phone when organising payment was very polite and helpful which makes a difference as I’ve encountered lots of rude hotel reception staff in the past this is a great place to stay
- Matthew (8/5): Simple room but ideal for 1 or 2 nights. Fan was added bonus as quite warm. - Simple instructions from owner. Clean and functional. Door to bedroom didn't lock from the inside. Worried about anyone walking g I to our room while sleeping.
- Karen (10/5): Little Gem for Goodwood - This was a very last-minute booking as attending Goodwood. Perfect location for what we needed.
The room was massive and extremely comfortable.
Tea and coffee and mini fridge very much needed as was a very hot day.
Affan the host went above and beyond when it came to parking moving his car so we could park and then reserving it again if we went out. Nothing we didn't like. More towels in the room may be not essential.
- Maguet (9/5): An excelent cost-quality option, to anything you have to do in Brighton. - Clifton House is a place that is a little bit separated from the town center, but there's plenty of transportation to reach it from there. I rented a single bedroom, which faced the street. The room was super comfortable, and the shared bathroom felt like it was my own. Everything in the place looks clean.
The room was small, but it provided everything I needed. It has a private sink, a mini fridge, a TV, and a wardrobe. I even have things for ironing. In the area, there are some supermarkets to provision yourself with things.
The location is really nice, but the best thing is the owner. I told him I needed to stay some time after the checkout because I had an interview (and pubs and coffee shops are not the best place to be doing those), and he let me stay for it. Thank you so much, Affan!
If you're attending a convention and can't spend a lot, this place is the right one to choose.
PS: I got the job, so it will even give you luck Public transportation to the area can stop around 01:00, so it's good to have that in mind. Beyond that, taxis from the center to the house are not that expensive.
- Luke (9/5): Superb -
- Nganga (10/5): Exceptional -
- Habeeb (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wioletta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Axel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Delia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tinia (6/5): Comfortable stay - The shared bathroom was large and very clean along with an separate WC & close to our room. We loved the tech gadgets for entry to the front door which made us feel very secure. The hotel was lovely and quiet. We were provided with everything we needed. We had problems with parking, we could not find available parking nearby to offload our cases so had to leave our car on double yellows to offload and then find alternative parking
- Jane (5/5): Sorry can’t recommend - Friendly cleaning staff Bedroom 4 spacious, but unbearably hot during a heatwave. Fan and small fridge provided but shower only produced very hot water.
- Ionela (8/5): Very good - Everything apart from the bed. The bed. Way too soft
- Gareth (10/5): Exceptional - The bed was amazing. I spend alot of time away in the week and it was the best sleep I've had in a long time. The room was lovely. Nice easy check in. The owners were perfect. Thank you so much.
- Amgad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Edward (7/5): Good -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean and comfortable - We were in Room 4 on the top floor which was their largest one and had an ensuite bathroom. It was clean with a comfortable bed. We had a small issue with the shower temperature but after reaching out to the House Manager by text, it was repaired quickly while we were out. The only difficulty was parking (as in most areas of Brighton and Hove) but we were lucky to find a space not too far from the guest house. It would be perfect for someone who didn't need to drive - it was a short and convenient walk from Portslade train station.
- Neal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tudor (10/5): Nice and clean quiet room! - Very clean and well maintained guest house. Feels very secure and the host was extremely professional and friendly. I was worried a little about the shared bathroom but there wasn’t too many rooms inside to be a problem. Toilets clean, room quiet and comfortable, equipped with all the things necessary for a long/short stay. Thank you to the host for the treats left for my little son. :) -
- Elliott (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (8/5): Clean and convenient location for visiting Brighton - Portslade is a very ordinary suburb of Brighton, but it is in a convenient location for access, being near Portslade station which has regular trains to Brighton town centre which is only an 8 minute journey. The trains seem to run until well after 11pm. There was adequate free parking near the property. We did not meet the hosts, but they were very good at communicating and sent clear instructions about entering and leaving the property. The room was clean and comfortable.
- Gamal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ys (7/5): Good - Shower Bed
- Daniel (10/5): Lovely accomodation - Lovely little room. Has everything. Even a fridge which is a nice touch Nothing
- Carly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Danielle (5/5): Passable - Nice big comfy bed. Fine for one night, but not great. Shower ran cold almost immediately, the shower handle was faulty and kept falling off.
- Dominic (8/5): Very good -
- Rahul (8/5): Very good -
- Craig (4/5): Disappointing - Location The curtains had a gap on the sides and the light kept me awake. Finding parking was a mission
- Michele (1/5): Bad -
- Stephen (8/5): We would stay again - Owner very helpful and welcoming on arrival. Large room with shower ensuite. Fridge hospitality packs. Netflix.
- Jiří (10/5): Exceptional - I had no idea about this place so it's a great find. I will for sure stay with you again.
- Kevin (6/5): Nice room, but it could be better - The room is clean, and the bed is comfortable. The location made it difficult to get about. Causing me to rely on Uber taxis daily to and from the room. For the money, I would expect more value, especially drinking water for the tea and coffee provided.
- Terri (8/5): Very comfortable and relaxing stay 5 minute walk to portslade train station - The room was spacious , the bed was lovely and comfortable , a good size tv it was all clean and the wet room was lovely very nice stay will definitely return I didn’t get a caffeine free option with the coffee or tea other than that it was great
- Vicki (8/5): Suitable for an a night stop before visiting friends - Convenient for visiting our friends Parking was difficult
- David (8/5): Very good - Large room with most things you need. As we never saw any staff, they send you an email with a code for a key box for the room key and another code for the front door there was nobody to tell when we ran out of toilet paper.
- Simon (9/5): Great stuff -
- Mellysplodge (8/5): Very good -
- Mary (8/5): Very good - Cosy, warm, clean, safe and quiet I have Osteoarthritis in right knee. So climbing stairs was the only challenge. But as everything I needed was on the First Floor. It was not too inconvenient.
- Stanley (8/5): Very good -
- Spoty (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Munira (8/5): Very good - The family who run clifton house live next door, when they saw me struggling to park, they came out to help me pack. They helped me find the venue I was trying to access which Google maps couldn’t help with, they loaned me a charger, which I used throughout my stay. They are very helpful.-service with a smile.
Location is great; with about 5 minutes walking distances to Tesco and Aldi and about 7 minutes to the train station.
All together- I recommend
- Debra (9/5): Superb -
- mila (2/5): - Shower was smelling piss, no toilet paper hot and cold valves was boroken
- Tony (7/5): Good -
- Robyn (10/5): Fabulous - This is the second time we’ve stayed here it is so convenient for us. Also very comfy and clean.
- Clive (10/5): Exceptional - Comfortable, clean and well equipped. Nothing.
