Guest Reviews
- rachelo528 (10/5): Absolute fabulous stay. - We've had the most amazing stay here this year over Christmas. They could not do enough for us. The welcome is great. The food and drinks are of great quality and plentiful. The service is really good. The activities and music has been really enjoyable and traditional. We are staying in the oldest part of the hotel but the room is fantastic. Lots of space, warm and very comfortable. The beds are comfortable and the bedding is very nice. Modern bathroom with good quality toiletries. Lovely tea and coffee & hot chocolate tray. We like the wood burners. The coffee is very good and that's usually a deal breaker for us! We think the hotel is modern but typically Scottish. All in all, its been a fantastic break and we totally recommend. The village is quiet but the hotel seems to be the hub of it. Well done to Colin and Team. Keep doing what you are doing. Merry Christmas.
- iains694 (10/5): Good one night stay - A great one night stay with a very large party which I thought might be a challenge for the staff. Service was quick and attentive and the food good quality - except maybe for the sticky toffee pudding (wrong choice there, everything else was excellent).
Not the biggest of rooms but perfectly adequate, clean and with everything you are likely to need.
- MMBuist (10/5): Great service - Excellent service. We stay in Carrbridge often and have eaten frequently at an adjacent hotel. This hotel has been closed for refurbishment so we have not eaten here before. This evening our usual hotel sent us and several other potential customers packing so we all ended up at the Carrbridge hotel.
First of all, the refurbishment is really lovely- very stylish. Secondly, I think the staff were at first slightly overwhelmed by the sudden influx of customers. However they rose to the occasion. The service was good. The food was good and the prices were good. I don’t think that we will go back to the original hotel- the one opposite the gallery. They are not interested in catering for tourists. The Carrbridge hotel provided everything that we and other tourists were looking for- good service and good food.
- Cruiser00697920960 (10/5): nature - The atmosphere was calm and inviting. beautiful ambience the staff was polite and helpful. the rooms were neat also comfortable.
Truly enjoyed my stay here
- Travel50330005943 (4/5): Very Poor... - Pleasent enough hotel however the food was garbage.
Breakfast was a riot, mainly because 2 large tour bus groups had just left and there was apparently only 1 Filipino guy left to clear the mess.
BTables were overflowing and nothing had been replenished.
The hotel is run and managed by Filipinos so don't go expecting a traditional Scottish welcome or experience.
Alright for a single night stopover but not for anything else.
- keithpB8197LU (6/5): window held together with black gaffer tape - arrived in a party to be told we did not have a room .finally given a room .the hotel looks pretty decent in the public rooms .overcrowded admittedly but that is to be expected with coach parties .food ok given they are catering for for so many people .sadly the room was far below a standard we would have expected .clean but that was the only plus point .my grandmother had better furniture ,as for my self it was like viewing museum pieces.the carpet was dingy but the highlight was a window with the pane held together with black gaffer tape ........not what anyone would expect i am sure .such a shame because if this was supposed to impress an over seas visitor believe me it didn't .the village itself is breathtaking ,if you planning a visit i would recommend staying somewhere with higher standards of accommodation
- ewancairns (2/5): Frozen in time - dining in the Carrbridge Hotel - If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to dine in a cryogenic lab, the Carrbridge Hotel restaurant will answer all your questions. The food arrived with all the flavour of a forgotten Iceland freezer bargain. Defrosting, it turns out, is optional here - and sadly, optional in the same way seatbelts were in the 1950s.
The menu seemed to promise “cooked meals,” but what landed on our plates was still clinging bravely to its frozen origins. At one point I wasn’t sure whether to eat it or use it to chill my drink. Easily the worst culinary adventure I’ve had this year, and I’ve eaten airline food on many occasions!
The one saving grace was the waitress, who was so relentlessly cheerful and smiley that she deserved an award - or at least a transfer to an establishment where the food doesn’t fight the diner for room temperature dominance. I genuinely hope she escapes to a nice restaurant soon, because she deserves far better than presiding over this Arctic farce.
In short: if you enjoy food that is equal parts nostalgia and frostbite, this is your place. Otherwise, consider fasting.
- Exosolaris (6/5): A one night stay - The room was ok and provided all of the basics you would expect for the price. The hotel seems to be popular with coach parties, which did impact the atmosphere/feel of the hotel. The only area where I was very underwhelmed was the dinner, which I felt was very bland. Breakfast was a little better. Overall, an average experience.
- havinggiventhissomet (8/5): Excellent last minute lunch - Stopped off on spec for a quick lunch. Both had the roast beef ciabatta with mustard and onions, served with fries and a jug of gravy. Beef was tender and everything hit the spot.
- Zerofourfive (8/5): Decent food off the A9 - Stopped for lunch between rivers. Crisp functional and friendly service.
Food was good if a little formulaic and prices were very reasonable. Sole was good portion but could have been less dry. Will go back next time we are in transit as A9 not well served with facilities and it is not far off the beaten track.
- 277shonaw (10/5): A Huge Thank You - Yesterday on the Ministerial visit to Dava to review the damage of the wildfire at the last minute, we booked afternoon tea for seven. The afternoon tea was excellent and both Bright Spark Burning Techniques and SLE offered to pay, they said it was their thank you for the work the gamekeepers had done as if the fire hadn't been contained, they may have had to close their business. A huge show of appreciation for the local land workers. Thank you .
- FarAway08539110351 (4/5): Lovely location and hotel - Second visit and although hotel is fresh with welcoming staff due to location there is nothing to do in the evenings .Very disappointed as previously this hotel had a regular outstanding guitarist who sung .Such a shame this is the missing factor
- Skiers356 (6/5): Disappointing hotel - 4 star - as advertised - this s not. Set in a beautiful part of Scotland but unfortunately nothing to do in village apart from a 2 minute walk to see the bridge and long drives to other attractions. Bedroom quite small. Everytime we sat on toilet seat it moved to the left. Food unimaginative and menu did not change during the time we were there. Breakfasts adequate but never hot enough, dinner was very hit and miss. For a Scottish hotel surprised porridge wasnt on menu nor haggis (apart from haggis and black pudding bites as a starter which we struggled to find the haggis in). Allegedly a family run hotel so you expect Scottish staff. Only saw one, a lovely lady who was a waitress a couple of nights. Rest of the staff were unhelpful, quite rude and badly trained. Reached across people eating to take food away, cleared the plates as soon as empty despite other people on table still eating. Bits of paper on floor in bedroom when we arrived and were still there when we left. All that seemed to be done to room was bed made and bin emptied. Lounge area pleasant.
- aliB50 (10/5): Excellent stay - we will be back! - Great hotel, beautiful decor and furniture, welcoming and attentive staff, rooms are nice and absolutely spotless, comfy beds, nice bedding. Good amenities and lovely surroundings. Good food at a reasonable price. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
- barbaratM679BJ (10/5): A relaxing stay in a lovely hotel - Had a five day break, we were warmly welcomed and the attention continued throughout our stay. The accessible bedroom was spacious and comfortable, the dinners were excellent and the dining room staff were so attentive. Only one slight complaint was the continental breakfast was not consistent, had to ask for hot drinks and milk for cereal, poor selection of cereals ( corn flakes or rice crispies only).
We will certainly return.
- johnbZ163RT (6/5): False alarm false alarm - Decent hotel in a very good location. Staff are very welcoming and hard working. One problem though is that the fire alarm went off both days of the stay and woke us up both days. 5 mins after the alarm went off we could just hear a voice saying “false alarm false alarm “ behind everyone’s door. Sort that safety issue out !
- William (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay at the Carrbridge hotel. We would go back, but not to the room we were allocated. (423) the outlook was very poor. Also, we would have liked a change to the menu instead of the same choices every night. Staff were very nice.
- Stephen (10/5): Overnight in Carrbridge - Clean and tidy hotel
No issues with anything
- Verified traveler (8/5): Shame about the breakfast - The room was recently refurbished, so was lovely with fresh white paint. The Highland Fine Soaps toiletries were a nice touch.
However, the housekeeping was a little confusing. We stayed 3 nights. Our bed was not made after the first night but was after the second. Mugs were cleaned, but tea bags not replenished - these were easily obtained from reception. Reception were slways helpful and friendly.
The BIG disappointment was the cooked breakfast. Everything had clearly been cooked hours before and kept warm. The food was lukewarm served on hot plates. The black pudding was so hard on Sunday morning that it was difficult to cut. The bacon and sausage were tough as old boots. We gave the cooked breakfast a try the second morning in case our experience was a one-off - it was a little better but still mostly inedible apart from the mushrooms and (tinned) tomato. On the third morning, we skipped breakfast and had brunch out.
- Vernon (10/5): - Thank you very much we had a great stay here. The staff were super friendly, the room was clean and modern, easy parking and the breakfast was 10/10. Highly recommended!
- Timothy (10/5): Very pleasant hotel - Very pleasant looking building at first appearance
Good car park with room as we arrived fairly late in the day
Reception was inviting and efficient
Young man was very helpful
The room was very comfortable clean and well presented
Everything you needed
Good night sleep nice and quiet
Therefore all excellent value for money
- C7982TXmargaretm (10/5): Excellent friendly hotel - Excellent hotel, friendly efficient staff, good food, lovely clean rooms, Colin & Teresa show they care for their staff & guests, lovely walks & tourist attractions closeby, wood burning fire upon entrance gives an immediate warm homely feeling
- Journey08391045437 (8/5): A warm welcome and friendly staff - Another visit to this hotel. Stayed for 2 nights. A warm welcome on arrival and friendly staff throughout my stay. Good menu choices for breakfast and dinner. Able to provide different food choices for gluten, dairy, meat free. Looking forward to my next visit.
- lesf765 (10/5): Beautiful hotel - The hotel is set in a beautiful village. The hotel is clean and tidy with all the usual facilities available. Prices for food is very reasonable and the food is well cooked, presented and is delicious. The hall is very spacious with plenty of seating, bar area and a dance floor
- clairewG7247QM (10/5): Fantastic Weekend! - Just spent an amazing line dancing weekend here with a large group. Everything was outstanding...the food, the rooms, the staff, the service, the atmosphere..
Can't wait to come back for the next event!
Thanks so much to the staff who go out of their way to ensure the best possible stay ❤️
- stepsis (10/5): Friendly welcome stay - I have stayed at the Carrbridge Hotel many times, but it never fails to amaze me,
The reception staff were bright pleasant and very welcoming on arrival, very quick and efficient checking in,
The hotel was lovely and warm, decorated beautifully,
Colin The manager and staff could not have done enough for us, were very friendly and approachable
Meals were fantastic every night really delicious
We were there for a line dancing weekend and honestly did everything they could to make sure our stay was memorable
Fantastic stay can’t wait to stay again and would recommend it to any one
- lorrainemI7771RR (10/5): Line dancing weekend - Had an amazing stay...the place was lovely..staff were amazing..food amazing nothing was to much bother...room were immaculate...cleaning staff, checking if we needed anything during our stay...vwet friendly staff..we have booked to go back next year...
- High-Land-Standards (10/5): Warm, good food, cheerful atmospheric, good rooms. - We were there with the mountain rescue on a training course and they were very accommodating. Nice classic highland hotel. We were given some wine on the house as a thanks for our service. Very nice gesture. Food was good (bar the sticky toffee pudding that needs to get tae!) and staff were nice and friendly.
- 74avrilj (10/5): Excellent weekend at a linedance function - Great hotel, friendly and helpful staff, excellent food and good WiFi.... ideal place to stay when exploring the surrounding area. I was attending a linedance function and we were looked after very well. The rooms were clean and well maintained.
- Meander37734562510 (10/5): Comfortable Highland stay. - We were made very welcome at the Carrbridge Hotel. The food was excellent and our room was very comfortable. There is also a big carpet. Well worth a stay. Point of interest. The oldest bridge in scotland is right across the road from the hotel.
- ruthhC7441MK (10/5): Warm and welcoming - What a fantastic weekend . The hotel looked after us all so well. Food delicious, hotel warm and welcoming.Refreshing to find such friendly helpful service. Lovely open woodburning stoves. Plenty on site parking.
Would strongly recommend.
- Tessajskzlsn (10/5): The best ever hotel to stay in - A lovely hotel with staff that look like they’re actually enjoying their jobs as they’re so helpful to the clients that come in The food was fantastic and well
Presented and great sized portions. Rooms clean and tidy spotless You couldn’t ask
For a better welcome and fabulous welcoming hotel staff. Really excellent service with a smile In all my years of travelling I would say this was the best ever they were like
One big family making it cozy for us all
- lucyabz (10/5): Scotland at it’s best - The Carrbridge Hotel is a dream come true. A great location with hills, lochs and forest walks. A welcoming bar with log fire, real ales and a wide choice of wines and spirits. The staff are welcoming and helpful. We dined in on the Saturday evening and the food was delicious. Great quality and beautifully presented.
- Hillyspeaks (4/5): Curate's Egg - Have just returned from a Newmarket Holiday in Scotland staying at the Carrbridge Hotel.
Positives: Excellent trip generally, very informed and pleasant tour guide (Hayley) and helpful and safe driver (Simon). We had beautiful scenery and the coach was clean and comfortable.
Negative: - The food at the hotel was the worst I have experienced, the hotel was understaffed in the dining area and the young people were very helpful and worked hard but it needed somebody more mature to take responsibility for the food which was, in the main, inedible or unpalatable. Breakfast food was overcooked and luke warm to the point of appalling, dinner in the evening was ok if you were eating there once - but the same menu every evening which comprised chips and fried food (no fresh vegetables all week) really was unacceptable. Based on the food standard of The Carrbridge I would not recommend or return.
Staff, in the main, were helpful and pleasant and the hotel was clean. Please, Carrbridge, invest in a chef and limit the Pub Grub experience to once in the stay.
Newmarket Holidays - you may wish to reconsider this hotel for future trips as it didn't do your lovely trip to Scotland justice.
- pamtel (8/5): Lovely hotel - We stayed here for four nights on a Highlands Tour.
The room was very clean and comfortable, very good hospitality tray and very nice bathroom extras.
Food was good and service in the dining room was excellent and efficient.
Drinks after meal also good.
I would recommend to others and would certainly stay again if in the area
- Roxana (8/5): - Nice place
- David (10/5): - We had to book this hotel at the last minute and they were ready and waiting for us. Checkin was easy. The rooms we were allocated were reasonable, clean and well kept. Bathroom had a shower but no bath. We dined in the hotel which was fine. Service and meals were excellent. The hotel is a stopping place for bus tours but bus tour parties are segregated from paying guests so there was no problem there. The location is quiet. Sleep quality very good. About 30 minutes drive from Inverness but that was not a problem. Recommended.
- Fiona (8/5): - No problems
- Lee (8/5): - Bed was too small for me 6:2 and the mattress not that good but the area was peaceful and the staff were friendly also the food was very good
- erin (8/5): - Easy to find, great parking.
Lovely friendly girls on the front desk.
Enjoyed room, everything was clean and bed was very comfy!
- alan (6/5): - Hotel was full of dogs which wasn’t good and wandering around in restaurant while people eating. Breakfast was cold and staff weren’t bothered never asked why food wasn’t eaten!
- Ainslie (8/5): - Loved the open fire as you walked in. Very friendly staff.
- Graeme (10/5): highland stopover - Nice hotel good location friendly staff good food
- Callum (6/5): - Property feels like an old ski resort hotel but does not feel especially updated. With all the covid-19 confusion at the moment a lot of the staff seem a little confused around service of food in the restaurants and it felt a little disjointed. Also at breakfast they were playing one kane brown song on repeat and was still playing half an hour later at checkout, this was a little strange.
- Karen (10/5): - Speedy and professional check in. Excellent service in the dining rooms. clean bedroom.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Underwelming - Clean room little paint needed throughout. Silicon falling away around bath. Shower hot but underwelming. Wine was terrible and food overcooked. Service was good.
- jim (10/5): - The hotel was managing to make their hotel and our stay very safe despite the present situation.
The room was extremely suitable the only point was television giving only 3 channels, this was a bit of throwback, but not an issue.
The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant.
The meals were excellent. All in a very delightful stay in a beautiful part of the Scotland.
- Yasir (8/5): Average family stop-over. - For the limited amount of choice and availability during our travel dates we had no choice but to book this hotel for our overnight stopover. I called the hotel in advance to try and get nearby rooms one as a twin and the other as a double, which the staff assured me wouldn't be a problem. However upon checkin this request could not be accommodated. Instead we needed to settle for two twin rooms separate from one another after viewing and discussing various options with reception.
The communal areas of the hotel and rooms are quite dated but reasonably well looked after by the management. One could argue the squeaky floorboards and stairs throughout the property are part of its character!
Breakfast was good. All in all an average experience for the price we paid.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Noisy room near the stairs of the hotel. In room facitilies basic - shower seemed to only have the boiling hot setting working and the TV display had lines running through it. Thought the hotel had done well with the covid measures though.
- Ernest (6/5): Ok Hotel - We stayed 1 night at the 3 star hotel as we visited the area. Check in was very smooth. The rooms very clean and tidy but the shower units were a challenge to adjust and the water temp changed without notice, so you had to be alert, we had 3 rooms so it was the same issue in all the rooms.
The Hotel like all others was dealing with social distancing etc, so many challenges for the staff but even taking that in to consideration it was below par.
We had a very long wait for Dinner which was not a major issue as we were not in a hurry to go anywhere but it was well over 1 hour to get our main course, at one point we were asked by a staff member if we would like dessert but we were still waiting for our main course. Staff were friendly enough but we did overheard similar issues with other guests.
The quality of Dinner and Breakfast was below the usual standard for the Cairngorms area.
- Emma (4/5): Disappointing - The room itself was dirty, floor hadn't been hoovered and hairs in the bath. The shower hose was leaking so not brilliant water pressure. Room looked out on to the back and as the windows were old, single pane and had broken handles I could hear everything at night. Walls paper thin so could hear next door and upstairs like we were separated by cardboard. The poached eggs for breakfast were so undercooked that the whites were still liquid so had to send this back. I'd not recommend this hotel or stay here again.
- sanaa (10/5): History, cul de sac, hospitality - Nice hotel and felt safe within COV-19 measurements they had in the hotel. The breakfast very nice especially the Scottish porridge. The hotel exactly on the top of the river where the historical Stone arch bridge is stand.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overall ok - Overall ok stay. Some minimal issues initially but resolved quickly. Nice looking hotel and well kept inside. Staff friendliness could’ve been improved upon a little. Hotel bar choice quite poor, including not even having gin glasses.
