• Tom (8/5): We had a lovely time away it is the 3rd time we have stayed here and never been disappointed - Although the room was not very big it was adequate and very comfortable. The facilities were good but don't like showers in the bath prefer stand alone however we coped. Cleanliness very good , bed comfortable, and we enjoyed coffee and biscuits which were available Sorry not keen on the menu perhaps a little more adventurous would be good and also a nice salad.

• Ann (8/5): Comfortable hotel in lovely market town - Centrally located, large comfortable room with a modern bathroom. Beautifully decorated room with quality curtains and fittings. Very good breakfast with lots of choice and friendly service. Our bikes were stored in a secure garage overnight There was some mould around the bath/shower. The two steps up to the bathroom might present difficulties for some, especially in the night.

• Jacqueline (8/5): Beautiful hotel and room in a lovely Yorkshire market town - Lovely hotel in the centre of Thirsk. Room 4 overlooks the market square and has a beautiful 4 poster bed. Signage to the restaurant, we saw so many people wandering looking and walking around.

• Graham (9/5): Excelent and memorable stay, within our affordable price range, Hotel centrally placed within Thirsk - Our room was very attractivly furnished, warm and quiet. Breakfast menue was extensive and varied, the staff were warm ,welcoming and friendly . I didn't like leaving !
• Joan (9/5): Fabulous place to stay for short break! - Historic property with lively quirky rooms, well renovated to bring modern conveniences without losing too much character. Loved the terrace outside which was well situated for the late afternoon and evening sun…it helped that we had lovely weather! Nothing…it was super.
• Trevor (8/5): Overall, a comfortable stay with good value. - We stayed in Room 3, which was spacious, well-presented, and featured a comfortable bed. The room also offered a pleasant view overlooking the market square at the front of the hotel. Breakfast provided a good selection of options and was thoroughly enjoyable each morning. The evening meal at the hotel was reasonably priced and satisfactory overall; however, the menu was somewhat limited, with many dishes served with chips. On our second evening, we chose to dine at Biancos, where we experienced excellent service and were particularly pleased to be served fresh vegetables, making for a very enjoyable meal. Overall, we had a pleasant stay, with comfortable accommodation and good value for money. The service staff were friendly enough, though their habit of addressing guests as “guys” and “my lovelies” gave every interaction an unintentionally sitcom-like vibe. We also couldn’t help but notice that decorative nail varnish and loose jewellery seemed to be considered part of the uniform—because why not? Tables were wiped down with what we assume was sanitiser spray, yet the velour-covered seating remained a veritable crime scene of crumbs and food debris

Great position in town centre The radiator in the room didn’t work which we assumed was usual cos there was an oil heater which we plugged in . We mentioned this to excellent receptions he explained the system had been renewed but had left a few issues the hotel was dealing with . We found this explanation satisfactory . Hence we have said we like everything .

A lot of black mould on bedroom windows ( due to condensation on windows which can't be double glazed). From personal experience lots of regular cleaning required. Also door to car park could do with a good clean. Otherwise all excellent.

• Mark (9/5): A great break and a lovely welcoming hotel. - We stayed at the The Golden Fleece as part of a day at Thirsk races, the location of the hotel is well placed for this. We extended our stay to look round North Yorkshire and the Fleece is ideal for this also. Our room was the Dick Turpin Suite which was a bit of a climb with the stairs so if anyone has mobility issues best ask for rooms on lower floors. A fantastic breakfast on both mornings and we paid for an evening meal in the hotel which also did not disappoint. Overall a great break and a lovely welcoming hotel. A bit of climb up a number of stairs to get to our room however only to be expected in a hotel of this age.

• Mandy (7/5): Comfortable and enjoyable stay, but hotel needs redecorating. - Comfortable but quirky room (Dick Turpin room). Good breakfast and dinner was good on the one night we tried the restaurant. Great location in Thirsk and large free car park. Stairs not hoovered at all, very limited tea and coffee in room. Property looked tatty and in need of redecoration.

Rooms were nice and a good size We were in a room overlooking the cobbled ‘walk through’ and at 6:30am Thursday morning, there were two employees stood talking at a louder than normal volume right underneath our window - completely unacceptable. There was also a constant stream of trolleys or something being run up and down, I can only assume is deliveries which I accept has to happen but for a guest it was so disrupting to our stay

Food excellent in the dining room and a good selection of various foods for breakfast. No heating on. Room was heated by free standing electric heaters, obviously no good for the bathroom which was a bit chilly!

The little touches in the room, robes, toiletries, water and tea and coffee Thr continental breakfast was a bit disappointing. First morning at 9am there was no fruit salad left and was told there was no more although breakfast was being served till 10am. I made do with a banana and there were pears available. 2nd morning no fruit salad at all and bananas were past their best. 3rd morning fruit salad readily available

Comfortable, spacious room with good king-sized bed. Good evening meal in restaurant / eatery and reasonably priced. The restaurant staff were good natured and helpful if slightly disorganised, felt like we should get up and lend them a hand! It took a long time and a bit of fuss to assign us a table in a mostly empty eatery. The pillows were rock hard and we wished we had brought our own.

• Martin (9/5): Lively and friendly - Lovely staff. Really kind and helpful. Great location, right in the heart of town. Parking too! Food was great, and the service excellent. Room was on small side, but comfy and clean, with a good shower. Windows didn't open in the room (painted shut)

All staff were friendly and professional, with high standards. Excellent food and restaurant service. Very convenient location and good parking facilities. Shower curtain too short so would not stay in position. TV had only a few channels available without streaming. Three different prices for the same breakfast were advertised in different places, and Sunday lunch menu was confusing, as it seemed to say that only a roast was available, but this was clarified by staff and in fact we could order from the full menu.
