Guest Reviews
- SlumlordPhil (2/5): Horrible place - Bedbugs, there is drug addicts in the everywhere that live here.
There is only 2 rooms that's actually function as a hotel, the rest are apartments for drug addicts.
One guy help a knife up to us.
Rooms have been smoked in, and the linen is from the 80s and seems like it came from a thrift store.
They don't offer refunds if your not happy with the room.
STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THE WILLOW INN
- V2265EMdavidy (6/5): Motel - The motel is under new management. The rooms are better kept up now. They focus on monthly tenants. This is a budget motel the manager is very accommodating. It is a pet friendly building. I think the changes do not reflect the older reviews.
- StephenA44 (2/5): Needs serious work - That may be the second dirtiest toilet I've seen in my life. Spiders hanging in the corners of the room, can't adjust the heat, the hot air blasting in smells like stale cigarettes, lino peeling in the bathroom... Shall I go on? There's a reason the rates are low.
- gills656 (2/5): A Big Disappointment........ - We booked this motel a number of months before our visit, having read prevoius reviews here on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately our stay did not live up to our expectations and we now understand that the motel changed hands after we made our reservation. A lot needs doing to the motel to bring it up to an acceptable standard, including considerably more cleaning.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Willow, Quesnel - Pros-The young man at the front desk was very nice and helpful. The air conditioning worked very well. Hot water was good, but the water smells and tastes not so good, and I have not encountered this elsewhere in Quesnel. The room had a fridge and a microwave, a real bonus. The neighbours were quiet so no trouble sleeping. Beds were fine.
It was very inexpensive so I hesitate to complain, but as I rely on these reviews when I am selecting a hotel I will be frank. The reviews for the Willow were half very bad and half good, so I figured maybe some of the fussier people were the princess type. Not so. We asked to have the sheets changed, (blood and ? stains, at least I hope they were stains), and this was done, no problem. We let them know the door handle was loose and it was promptly fixed also. Extra pillows were provided as they were very thin, anything we asked for we did receive promptly. But the room really needed a good clean, and there were mouse droppings in the cupboard. Not very many plug ins either. The parking lot had garbage thrown around and the junipers had a telephone and underwear thrown there, maybe that is why the room has no telephone or clock. (Also strangely, not one picture on the walls, very bleak.) Windows could do with a clean, all in all, it looked as though no one cared.
- sharx15 (2/5): Needs a good fixing up - I stayed here for one month on business and on arrival it looked okay on the outside. Inside was a different story. It was dusty, dirty, tiles were literally falling of the shower wall, the breaker blew every time I used the microwave, there were drug addicts living upstairs partying every night for a whole week, stains on the bed and couch, the door knob outside looked like it was about to fall off; I had to force myself to sleep on the bed and I covered the couch with a blanket before I slept on it...I can't believe I made it through the whole month. The only good things were the price and the managers who were always available if I needed anything. Whoever owns this place needs to put a lot of work into it so it can be habitable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): It's a bed. - It's a bed and that is about it. Decor looks like nothing has changed since 1972 but we had no problems and the room was relatively clean.
- bcgirl1980 (4/5): Oh my - I sure hope TripAdvisor posts this. I have seen all these reviews and heard people wanting to find the previous managers and I just wanted to say that I have found them! They are still acting the same with the same great service. They are running a motel in Sangudo which is only 1 hour NW of Edmonton on highway 43 (Alaska Highway). Turns out there is only 1 motel in that town so very easy to find. Hope this helps the people who enjoyed their service because without them being at The Willow I won't be back and by the looks of it neither will a lot of people.
- 541mariet (2/5): Worst stay I've had - We stayed at The Willow twice. Once in the late Winter and again this late Spring. Our first stay was amazing. From the outside, it looks shady (bright yellow painted building, railings wobbly) but the parking lot had the most cars parked so we decided it must be a good place and boy were we surprised. The young couple who ran the motel were very pleasant and friendly. The room showed it's age but it was clean. We were warned of the noise with it being right on the highway, it was expected, yet once we closed our door we could hear minimal traffic. We decided to try them out again as we passed through.
Bad decision......
New managers were working, they informed us the previous managers, the reason we came back, moved to Alberta. We weren't going to run away and figured how bad could it be now. Less cars in the parking lot and people hanging around outside. Boy oh boy we should not have stayed. The room was a disaster, bugs, cobwebs, dirty toilet, dusty side tables, didn't even look as though it had been vacuumed, the list goes on. We didn't even sleep in the bed! We left in the middle of the night because we couldn't handle it anymore. I am going to continue to search for the previous managers as they are the reason we came back the 2nd time. It's a shame this place has turned into what it is. Does the owner not care? Obviously they must not or this place would not be in the condition it is now
DO NOT stay here, rather go to a different motel and stay clean.
- Josh (6/5): Clean and Cheap. Great internet. - I've stayed at this hotel multiple times for work. It's pretty outdated, but the beds are comfy and everything is clean in the rooms. It's one of the cheapest places in Quesnel, so you can't expect everything to be nice and new, but it's clean. Each room has it's own wireless modem, so your internet connection is fast and not crowded by other users, which is the hotels best feature. The front desk staff is friendly and accommodating. I'd recommend for a no frills place to stay on a road trip, or for work.
- Rosaria (6/5): Not for the fussy. - Old motel in need of renovation. Clean & comfortable enough if wanting to save money.
- Tiara2012 (2/5): Worst experience of my life - DO NOT BOOK HERE!!! Across the street is a better.. way way better cleaner and affordable hotel. booked 2 weeks online because I was under the impression this was the only place left during this pat two weeks. I didnt even last 24hours. The room smelled so bad I attempted to sleep with the door open..every 23 minutes the pipes rattled so loud it was IMPOSSIBLE to get any sleep. The room was BEYOND disgusting. burn holes on my pillow and bedding. Stains on the floor, bedding and linens. The kitchenette was a death trap black mold, leftover food stuck to glasses and utensils. two pots were left for my use to use. However being that at one time they were aluminum that had been scratched away and burned food was left behind. Just nasty . The coffee machine was filthy .
I didnt even want to take off my work boots for fear of stepping on something...
Checked in at 8ish by 2 am I was packed and on the road again looking for something anything to rest my tired head...dumpster diving was looking good at this point.
After driving around at 2 am I found another place to stay...a 5 star compared to this place. I went to the main desk where this unfortunate employee was stationed. I asked for a refund and got the run around. now technically my official HOTELS.COM booking didnt start until that day. I called them and was beyond reluctant to pay the cancellation fee, but as someone else mentioned they had a very good refund policy that clearly favored them financially but not reputation wise.
I paid the fee over the phone went into the office to have the rest of my 2 week deposit returned... that's when the real fun began. The poor guy up front was the go between. The owners tried to make deals with me, offered an email transfer and the list went on. Promised to give my money back in minutes via email transfer after 2 days of waiting nothing..then I phoned HOTELS.COM to get help.. they phoned and spoke to the owner who claimed SHE had returned the money.. then I told H.C that no such thing had happened. She then said OOPS I will do that now a refund via Credit Card... She told me EMAIL TRANSFER . That's when H.C and I started to see the trend here.. the owners are not truthful , the hotel is a disgrace and I still DO NOT HAVE MY MONEY BACK... We are now in talks with the credit card company..
Clearly Captain Obvious has NEVER been here or this would be pulled off their site.. H.C is now going to check this listing and send out an inspector. the better hotel to stay at across the street. Sylvan MotelDirections

a nice friendly CLEAN place to stay.. the older couple who run in this place take pride in their little business... yes its a motel but its a clean friendly motel ... I would recommend this place to anyone.
- MotorcycleBob (2/5): The cheapest motel in Quesnel, for a good reason - I booked on line, which was a mistake, because you have to put your charge card information in, and then the no cancellation subject is attached. The motel is on the hill at the west end of town, which means truck traffic is either braking or accelerating, and either one is very noisy. My room was very small, grubby and unattractive. Even with the door closed the traffic noise was unacceptable. I looked and left, despite losing my $64. The only good thing I can say about this motel is that the young fellow who booked me in was very pleasant.
- drifting_nomad (2/5): Not even worth the low price - This was the only place available for my sister to stay at for the whole month of May.. all the other hotels/motels closer to town were booked up solid for 2 of those weeks because a group of people were there to clean the mills so that already was a tell tale sign of what was to come if even with the low price no one wanted to stay here.
My family was pretty horrified with the state of the place. Definitely not safe for any girls staying there solo, and if you are of a different ethnicity they will stare at you the whole time. This is a truckers pit stop where a lot of those staying here look like they are high on drugs or something else.
Facilities wise, the place is not very clean, the air con does nothing but make noise and doesn't actually work, the bed creaks and squeaks with any little movement. Really a place out of a horror show to be honest. Management was a bit of a joke, we contacted them 2 months before hand and they promised it was very secure and safe place and would be there to help with any issues but when my family arrived. The old managers had already left! There is now a young indian manager who at least did try his best to help us. He is the only redeeming thing about this place. If you are a guy and used to roughing it then fair enough, but otherwise pay a bit more and stay somewhere else if it's available.
- 961suea (6/5): You get what you pay for. - At $50 a night, plus tax....you can't expect deluxe, top notch accommodations. The room we had was on the ground floor by the office. It had a TV, mini fridge, microwave and keurig machine with a few dishes and 2 keurig cups. The bathroom was okay, not clean if you are a fanatic. It had been cleaned, but a little more effort would have gotten rid of the water spots on the counter, hair on the toilet tank, and a good hard water cleaner could make the old faucets look a bit better. The pillows were very flat and the cases had holes. Marks on the walls, and obvious door repairs from past guests. We stayed while there were lots of tree planters staying there as well. Having spent several summers cooking in tree planting camps, this was not an issue. But, it does explain some of the issues. Tree planters, God love 'em, are hard on stuff. Regardless of the state of the room, we spent a decent night, feel we got what we paid for and can't complain. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay and aren't squeamish, I highly recommend it. If you prefer a more upscale room, and can't deal with wear and tear, look elsewhere.
- 147judeb (10/5): Unbeatable Value! - I was in Quesnel a couple nights for hospital procedures and found this little gem. It has the feel of a hostel more than a hotel, so I would recommend it to anyone comfortable in that kind of environment.
The young family that run it are super friendly and ready to go above and beyond to make a guest feel welcome. And at $45 per night, it's the best deal in town with only a few minutes walk to the hospital and town core.
I stayed in unit 20 which is set in behind the main office. The room showed it's age but was quite clean. It had a bar fridge, cable tv, microwave and it's own wifi router so the signal was excellent.
I would totally stay there again.
- 328dougr (8/5): great economical place to visit - I enjoyed my stay at the Willow Inn and found the management / staff were enthusiastic and very helpful. Although the accommodations were dated, but very clean and fresh. Its location is great very near the downtown area and easy access to attractions in the area.
- bcgirl1980 (10/5): Great diamond in the rough - My family and I stayed at The Willow for a night and it was amazing. It's run by a sweet family (husband, wife and daughter help out). They live right on site and didn't hesitate to help. The wife greeted us at the desk as soon as I walked in and was happy and cheerful, laughing and joking with me the whole time. Her husband came out and took the time to make sure the room was perfect even though it was already cleaned, he even walked us to our room and showed us how to connect to the WIFI.
The room was fare size and clean. Coffee and fresh muffins were ready in the office when we checked out at 8:30am. My family and I will be back again so long as these managers are there.
- bcgirl1980 (10/5): Good visit - My spouse and I stayed at The Willow over night and I agree with both reviews. Yes, the motel is outdated and needs some work BUT it is a very old hotel and in need of some TLC.
The beds were comfy and the room was clean. Pet Friendly and family friendly. Only thing needed is a breakfast and The Willow will excell.
- Ckroeger12 (8/5): Good value for the money! - Keeping in mind the nightly rate is only $50, one can't expect the rooms at the Ritz. The hotel is old with stained flooring and tub/sink, but it's clean and the bed is comfortable. We stayed for 10 days in August 2014 - the room had a working air conditioner, microwave, TV, fridge & stove. There are no phones in the rooms but we had our cells so it didn't matter. The staff were exceptionally helpful and attentive. There is 24/hour video surveillance via cameras so we felt safe. An added bonus was the doe and her 2 fawns who came nightly to feast in the apple trees. Try not to expect the ambiance and service of a $120/night hotel and you'll be pleased with the value of your stay.
- cyhin30 (4/5): Not worth the small price - The hotel was cheap and yet not worth the price.
The husband who first came to the counter to check me in was rude and then went and got his wife who was much nicer...no shampoo even in the bathroom and the room overall was dirty and thick dust on lamps and heater. No alarm clock, no coffee maker, just a kettle and instant coffee...
