Guest Reviews
Je me suis sentie agressée.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location was a little bit of a walk from the bus terminal and the main part of town but we loved staying in this place. There were indoor and outdoor public and private baths, and it was a great touch to have the ability to make the public baths private between 9 pm and 8 am at no additional cost. We did the half board option for food and it was really great to experience traditional japanese cuisine for breakfast and dinner.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good onsen, both private and public available. Traditional japanese(sleeping on the floor). Decent breakfast available.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Verified traveler (4/5):
- Steven (8/5): Great traditional Onsen hotel - Parking available if reserved in advance, my room was traditional style, but no bathroom. That doesn't matter much as you'll be using the great onsen.
After 9 pm their bigger onsen can be privately used.
Owner spoke English and gave advice on what to visit, with a map and discount vouchers.
As this was a last minute decision to go to, this was a godsend.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Sumalee (8/5): Nice hotel - It takes about 15minutes walk from Yubatake. This hotel has private onsen, you can relax and take your time here. Nice breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing and always smiling staff, great dinner and breakfast, and loved the private use of the baths, including the communal ones late at night. A little far of a walk with luggage but still manageable.
- Verified traveler (4/5):
- Verified traveler (2/5): BAD ATTITUDE OF FRONT DESK STUFF - i dun know if this bad-attitude guy owns this hotel, but the attitude ruins moods of all of us. Asked us to leave immediately when we asked about if we can stay here one more night.
He said no room and we decided to search and plan where to go, the guy already asked us out with a bad tone.
Cant believe this happened in japan, all services almost close to perfect but this hotel can not provide that.
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!
- Joean (6/5):
- Verified traveler (8/5): A great Osen hotel - It was located in a very quiet location but easy to find. The 2 days stay with different food for breakfast and dinner. Overall service is great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice japanese style inn. - If you go here expecting a regular western hotel experience you chose the wrong place. This is a japanese style inn, meaning open air bath and futon.
- Hok Chun (10/5): Nice hotel in Kusatsu for leisure - Staff are really nice, and the breakfast is pretty good. You can easily commiunicate with staff even you don't understand Japanese.
- Djunadi Putra (8/5): Decent ryokan in Kusatsu - The ryokan is not exactly in the middle of Kusatsu-onsen, but a bit on the periphery. Since they don't provide a pick up service, you have to take a taxi or walk from the bus station (around 10mins, slightly downhill). The same deal if you want to go to the town center, you'd have to walk about 10-15mins (a little downhill to flat terrain).
Plus:
- the rate is one of the most reasonable in the area
- private onsen
- decent size room
- strong, free wifi
- delicious and reasonably priced breakfast and dinner
- massage chair. FREE!
Minus:
- the location is a bit far from the town center area, a bit inconvenient to get in and out. Tough if you are carrying a big or heavy luggage. But the proprietor did provide me a lift to the bus station when I left
- most of the rooms are on the 2nd floor. You have to carry your own luggage upstairs, which did not happen to me at other ryokan
- meals are served in the dining room, instead of the usual, in the privacy of your own room
All in all, it's not bad. The service could have been more attentive.
- Verified traveler (2/5):
- WAI MING (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (4/5):
- Verified traveler (4/5): You can have other better choices at this price. - A bit old facilities, small room without hot water & bath in your room at cold winter. Climb up stairs with laggages.
I paid extra 4000yen/person for dinner but it is home made quality. I would prefer to have delious dinner outside if I knew it.
Onsen (hot spring) facility is not competitive. I am a hot spring lover and stayed at many hot spring hotels, I don't like it anyway. Consider the quality, I willing to pay not more than 5000yen/person for a stay. I paid 25000yen for a 3 persons small room & dinner not included.
The Location is quite close to tourism spots. Attitude of staffs ok.
This time I booked in rush through hotels.com, trust the 4.1stars ranking but disappointed, I think 2.5 stars is more reasonable.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Wai Bong (8/5): - Overall is good with reasonable price, just the location is abit far from the onsen Main Street.
- Wei Ling (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great private onsen! - Wonderful in-hotel onset! There are two small private onsen and two larger "public" onsen (men/women). If the private onsen are open, you can lock them and use them for yourself. Same goes for the larger onsen between 9pm-8am!
The Japanese dinner and breakfast (an extra cost) were also delicious.
It's a short 10 min walk to the bus terminal, and 15 min to the famous Yubatake. I'd stay here again!
- Frequent Travel (4/5): Look Elsewhere! - Hotel can be difficult to find when driving at night. Usual Japanese staff hospitality not seen at check-in or check-out.
Room was small with inadequate sound proof. Room facilities were very basic, just about comfortable pillow and clean bed sheet, less running hot water, refrigerator and hair dryer. The private / family bath is available on first-come-first-serve basis.
- Meng yuan (10/5):
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cheap and nice yet somewhat outdated ryokan - The room was very simple and small, but with a nice traditional feel to it. The place feels quite old but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
The highlight of the place was its nice collection of outdoor and indoor onsens ,and good location: close to the center yet far enough for it to be cheap and quiet.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- first love (10/5): highly recommended - it was located only 10mints distance from bus station and the hotel service was very nicely organised.
onsen was a bit little but enough for small family or a couple.
it was clean and
good for its price. never regret it to stay there.
- Verified traveler (6/5): budget choice, but no view - this is a budget choice. the hotel itself is cute and comfy. however: (1) it is relatively far from the center of the town. it takes 15 min or so to walk from the hotel to the center, whereas many other hotels are 5 min away from the center-- maybe it is why other hotels are (much) more expensive.
(2) there is no view, no remarkable sight around the hotel.
(2) means the view from the hotel is boring.
(1) means the hotel might be inconvenient to the disabled travelers or those who with more luggage.
- Taryn (8/5): Lovely experience! - We really enjoyed our stay here. Looking on Google maps we could see it was in a bit of a weird residential area, but it had so many great reviews that we had to see what all the fuss was about. It was a bit of a struggle to get our low car into the driveway, but that was really our only issue. The staff were wonderfully friendly and the food was amazing! The owner spoke a small amount of English and everything had been set out (signs and menus etc) with English translations which was really helpful. The private onsen pools were also fantastic - my husband and I really wanted to have the traditional onsen experience but without the whole 'getting nude with random people' part, so the private pools were perfect. We stayed in summer during the week and it was so nice and quiet, and it was only a short walk to the Yubatake hot water field which was so cool! Overall we had a great experience and would definitely stay here again.
- Richard (10/5): comfy onsen - Small walk from the center of town but it's a great place. Private and gender separated onsen. (hot spring) the food is great also. If you stay I suggest the food.
