Guest Reviews
- 1592Dave (6/5): Honest and true opinion. - Stayed here with my wife, daughter and longtime friend in 3 rooms,1 double and 2 singles.
Upon arrival met by Chrisoula and informed they were overbooked causing us to be put in lesser rooms than booked for 1 night, then hopefully get rooms we booked. After lots of tired discussion with another staff member we agreed as nowhere else available to go too as we would’ve if possible informing them of views! Rooms were o.k. But not as booked(de luxe sea view upper floors).True to her word Chrisoula placed us in our booked rooms next day. These rooms were fine but the bathroom was a shocker! Old and outdated.Shower difficult to move in as very small.Shower-head falling off hook frequently, poor pressure and grubby inside due to age.towels rail fell off minute 1 and left off.Rest of bathroom fittings very poor due to age and condition, specifically shower cubicle, sink, toilet.Rest of room o.k. Including small fridge, air con etc.
Breakfast basic and as I am Coeliac was provided with alternative selection( Thanks Chrisoula).I have to say Chrisoula did her best to make things better but the fact is that this hotel needs desperately upgrading a lot and I said this so no surprise and the family know this but alas I feel this won’t happen which is a shame as it is potentially very good with money spent and it is in a good spot with a nice pool and surroundings.Access to beach, shop and tavernas good.I would not stay here again due to 1 thing,,Bathroom really outdated and tatty.Chrisoula, please don’t be offended by this review as you know it was coming and it would be wrong of me not to highlight it for others.Best of luck in your future.
- 465kjohnG (10/5): A piece of heaven - Just back from staying at ionikos with my daughter. From the minute we arrived we felt welcome. The rooms are clean with a kettle, fridge and hairdryer. The beds are comfortable and clean with the best pillows for a good night's sleep. There is a snack bar with very reasonable drinks and lunch options. The pool area is clean with plenty of sunbeds and a large deep pool. I can not fault anything during our stay here and the owner and her sons are super friendly. I highly recommend and will be returning next year.
- gazw319 (10/5): Very laid back hotel. - This is a really relaxing laid back hotel, great views of the beach and chapel, very comfy beds and very clean. The staff a friendly and chatty, the food is lovely and plentiful with drinks in a chilled glass. The pool is loveley but never many people using it with always sunbeds available. A truley relaxing place. Prices are good except for the sunloungers and umberella on the beach and they tend to charge for 2 + an umberella even if your on your own and dont want the parasol !. still a great choice though.
- Onecubba (10/5): Highly recommend this hotel. 😎 - Didn’t stay at this hotel because we wanted a package deal. But we went there every day for lunch and drinks ! Chris and her son nic were so helpful Looked forward to seeing them again ! If ever this hotel comes up as a package we will definitely stay there! Every thing about it was good location right on the beach 🏖️ it was very clean ! Food good massive portions. Staff very friendly. Can’t fault it. Thank you Chris and nic. Hope to see you again Christine and Mike from
England 🏴
- Pioneer43206207407 (10/5): Great hotel in Kefalos - Just got back from an incredible stay at this beautiful hotel in Greece! The views were absolutely stunning, the souvlaki was the best I've ever had, and the hotel was really clean. The owners treated us like family, making the experience even more special. Highly recommend this place!
- hardraine (10/5): Freindly and helpful - We did not stay at the hotel but did use the pool and snack bar on a few occasions. All I can say was it was clean abd well kept. However most of all the staff were very friendly and accomdating. The food and drinks were really good and well priced. We had a very positive experience and the young lad, I think he was the son was great. Picking mint from the plants for our drinks and taking care preparing them.
- louisejD4765OI (10/5): Everyone Welcome Beach Bar and Pool - Stopped off here for a dip in the pool and some lunch at the beach bar. Food is really nice, bar staff super friendly and the drinks are icy cold.
It's free to use their pool and sunbeds as long as you spend a minimum of €30 at the bar/beach bar, which works out cheaper than paying for beds on the beach and food/drinks at a taverna.
It's location is beach front so you have the best of both worlds.
- Lisa (10/5): - It was so worth the money. The staff was so helpful, very clean appt, lovey continental breakfast. A little dated, but what do you want to for such a cheap price 27 euros. Would diffently go again. Thank you Chrissy
- matbux (2/5): Horror hotel. Please stay away at all costs!!! - Horror hotel. Dodgy owner/manager.
We booked 10 nights on lastminute.com. It said there was air conditioning, safe and wifi. Upon check in we discovered that air conditioning could be used for 7 euros (!!!) per day and the safe for 3 euros per day. Unheard of in any other hotel and not mentioned anywhere before our booking.
This only happened after we waited 10 minutes at reception with nobody around, only to find a hidden sign saying "for *more* information go to the pool bar". We went to the pool bar, it took another while for the manager to show up at reception. We later learned that there is never anybody at the reception, you always have to ask somebody at the pool bar (when it's open... we never dared looking for someone when the bar is closed).
WiFi almost never had internet connection. We notified the manager on the first day. He said the telephone company had a problem in the area due to a power cut and they would fix it by the next day. It almost never worked for our whole stay.
The bathroom in our room was tiny: a cube barely 2 meters each side (including height). You had to leap over the toilet to enter the shower and you had to use the sink sideways since the toilet was too close in front of it.
On the day we checked in the shower pan was stained. Understandbly, because no one could properly clean it since the toilet blocked proper access. The toilet was stained too.
The shower box was super cramped, barely any space to rub yourself with a bathtub faucet unexplainably fitted and bulging out.
Flimsy shower doors and a flimsy hanger that could not hold the shower head into position, risking that it fell to the floor or on your head each time you turned the knob.
There was a holder for a shower gel dispenser but no dispenser. We asked the manager, who gave us two tiny bottles of shower gel, saying there is no dispenser, but the cleaner would have replaced the bottles when empty. We later discovered that the cleaner had no clue where to find those replacement bottles; she was told to place shower gel only in the "suites".
The toilet seat would not stay up.
The bathroom ceiling rattled when the wind was blowing outside, vibrating and making noise.
The bedroom is carpeted. But the cleaner clearly has no tool for properly cleaning it: no hoover, no kind of machine... just a mop!!! in fact the carpet is stained and dirty.
The room was serviced randomly: some days we realized no one touched the bathroom and on a couple of days not even the bed was made.
The upper bed sheet was narrower than the bed, stained and was changed only a few times in 10 days. The lower bed sheet and the pillow cases were never changed. The towels were changed only once after 7 days because we expressedly asked for.
A pointed iron nail protruded from the bed frame on one side.
At breakfast, the waiter would bring you your food. The same for everybody and the same every single day. No choice. 1 bread roll, 1 cheese triangle, 1 boiled egg, 1 portion of jam, 1 of honey, 1 slice of plain discount grocery cake. Again, unheard of!
Please stay away at all costs!!!
- Alp (8/5): - Don’t check in late, it’s a hassle but it is a pleasant little hotel with nice people running it. Sea view rooms have a good view
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Personal muy amable, situación espléndida y muy buena calidad precio.
- jody9t9 (6/5): Lovely Basic Beach Hotel - We only stayed for 1 night before flying home and were really pleased with it. Its a friendly family run hotel right on the beach. there's a lovely pool, bar and restaurant on site. the food and drinks were lovely and very reasonable. The hotel is basic, basic rooms, beds, bathrooms etc. But for the price.. you cant go wrong.. the location couldn't be better. Super friendly people.. very accommodating. We would definitely use the hotel again. If its cheap and cheerful, friendly staff and lovely pool area right on the beach, this is definitely worth a look!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The proprietress was very helpful and nice. However, the WIFI internet did not work in the rooms, as advertised.
The toilet/drainage in our room had a leak and was not fixed.
Air conditioning was an added daily cost
- poppypiechucker (4/5): 11 nights holiday at Hotel Ionikos - Ours rooms were cleaned daily, and towels changed 2-3 days as were the sheets. Rooms are very clean with plenty of wardrobe space, drawers, shelves etc and a lovely balcony to sit and watch the world go by. Breakfast is served to your table, consisting of breadroll, butter, jam, marmalade, honey, ham and eggs plus cheese. Plenty of tea and coffee too. Lunch time meals are really good value and large enough for two adults to share one meal! All the staff are very willing to help and nothing was too much trouble, even on our last morning John had contacted the taxi company to get a print off of our collection time which was so helpful and really appreciated.
- grahamb788 (10/5): Getting ready to close for the winter - We went to the Ionikos yesterday just to say hello and use the pool. They have no guests staying at the moment. They are getting ready to close up for the winter. Chrissy was open for food and the bar was open. They must be doing something right as there were about 20 people eating there. The pool is lovely and very clean. Quick WiFi around the pool and even down to their sunbeds on the beach.
- deniselE6813XV (10/5): Kefalos holiday 2018 - I am staying here at moment and I am having the most relaxed holiday in an amazing setting. The rooms are basic but spotless and are cleaned every day. I asked for a sea view and I got one and I am not disappointed. On arrival at 9-30pm we were greeted by John who was very friendly and gave us a large bottle of nice cold water which was very much appreciated after our long journey from glasgow. Nothing us too much bother from all staff who are very friendly. Chrissie the manager runs the pool bar and she is so friendly and helpful and speaks excellent English. She knows all customers by name which I think is brilliant and makes u feel welcome. The pool is amazing with amazing views of the sea and it is located right on the beach. The food is great and very cheap and large portions given. The hotel bar closes at 6 but this is not a problem as there are many bars and tavernas within walking distance and it's great to have the peace and quiet on our return later that night. I would happily return here again and I highly recommend a visit. If u are thinking of coming here DO IT u won't b disappointed. I am here until the 1st Oct 2018 and I am absolutely loving it. Thank u Ionikos for a brilliant holiday in amazing settings.
- George23927785 (10/5): excellent pool and food and Chrisi is a brilliant host - We visited this hotel pool and restaurant for 10 days recently. Although we were not staying in this hotel the rooms at the back all appeared to have fantastic sea views. The pool was very good and the beds were not cramped round it. The lunch time snack menu was excellent and the portions served were massive and excellent value. Chrisi ran things and she was brilliant and could not do enough for you. She really made our stay there memorable.
- terenceh853 (8/5): very good - With the ionikos hotel,s pool open to the public my wife and i visited twice, each time there was plenty of beds available and we really enjoyed swimming in the pool.We cannot comment on the accommodation but regards to the outer area it is situated in a perfect position overlooking the beach and beyond. Each day we were there we had lunch and found the food really tasty and the staff very friendly especially the american greek lady (sorry we did not find out what her name was).We generally drink dry red wine and when we asked for some the lady searched the store and found a bottle which we really enjoyed. The following day when we went for lunch she had went out of her way and bought another bottle for us which we thought was a really nice touch.Overall we found the ionikis as far as the outside area, staff, and food were concerned a really nice place to visit.
- Oliviamess793 (2/5): Double booked? - Came to the hotel at 9pm with no one at reception so after waiting and looking about we called the hotel. A man came to the reception and we showed our reservation through booking.com and he told us he had no rooms and turned us away. We called booking.com for help, they tried to call the hotel but he didn’t answer which leads us to believe that we were double booked. Might be nice but we’ll never know
- viiviiLondon (8/5): Had a lovely week at Ionikos Hotel - Really enjoyed our stay here, such a good location on the beach & our room had amazing views right across Kefalos Bay.
Rooms are very basic slightly dated Greek rooms, one small fridge & hairdryer, balcony & small bathroom but this is typical for Greece, these were cleaned most days.
Well kept pool, bar and restaurant area, had no problem getting sunbeds & although only ate lunch here the food was very good, there is also a table tennis table.
Breakfast is continental & adequate, it was offered free when we booked the room so for us was a bonus!
Air con is €6 a night, I never use it & there was some confusion over this even though we said day one we didn't want it they tried to charge us for it, I do believe this was a genuine mistake & just make sure if you are not using it you return the control to reception & don't keep it in your room!
Supermarket at the end of the road for all basic needs, & plenty of Tavernas & cafes within a couple of minutes walk.
Stated free WIFI which there was, could may be a little clearer that this is only in the public areas, there is none in the rooms & its not the strongest of signals so if you require it in the evenings you will have to make other plans!
Would stay again, had a very chilled out holiday & this was the perfect base
- SherriffS40 (4/5): Mixed feelings - Overall we enjoyed our stay, however would not stay again. The location by the beach superb, close to amenities and restaurants, some staff great, very friendly, particularly Chrissy & Soula. Well kept gardens, nice pool area. Room was ok, a bit dated, as were the hard & slightly lumpy beds, bathroom was tiny, the view of the beach from the balcony was excellent though and made up for the rooms shortcomings. As per previous reviews, breakfast was more than adequate but monotonous with no fresh & healthy produce. Sunloungers by the pool were 'reserved' with towels early, for the entire day and then used for only a few hours. Often there were no available loungers but only 3 or 4 (out of 18-20) with people in them. The charge for air conditioning at 6eur per day was our biggest annoyance. We booked through last-minute.com - no mention of a charge on the website, it does state extra charges for other things such as safe & cots. (We could have survived without aircon but at night with the balcony door open the mosquitos were savage and we got eaten alive.) The hotel wouldnt budge, saying LM had been told. LM never responded to several attempts at contact. Upon checking other sites, some advise there is a fee, but as many do not (including LM 3+ weeks later), someone needs to take responsibility for making sure the info is correct! Seems neither the Ionikos nor lastminute.com are customer focused, it's all about $$. Buyer beware.
- sian (4/5): Mixed feelings - Friendly staff, particularly Chrissy & Soula, nice pool, great location. Our room had a nice view of the beach from the balcony. The room itself was dated but fine, however bathroom was tiny, beds a bit hard and lumpy. Breakfast was more than adequate but monotonous, no change over 8 days, buns, a slice of ham, boiled egg, honey, jam, butter, slice of cake, juice, hot drink. Surprising given the abundance of cucumber, watermelon, olives etc everywhere else. Sun loungers by the pool usually claimed early but unused for the majority of the day. Air conditioning was not included in the rate, although this was not outlined on the last minute.com booking page. Hotel didn't care, said last minute had been told, last minute are yet to respond to 3 attempts to contact them. At 6Eur per night, this was not a mere inconvenience. We had cancelled a booking at another hotel because they advised about a cost for Air con. At least they were upfront about it! Although overall it was an enjoyable holiday, we would not stay at Ionikos again, and it was the first but last time we'll book through last minute.com / expedia.
- Ler0yb (4/5): Basic, rooms were tired, but nice pool and location. Watch out for additional charges - We chose the Hotel Ionikos due to its location - right on the beach, and the fact that LateStays (the website we booked with), advised it included air conditioning. Upon arrival there was not remote on the room for air con and when we brought this up we were advised it was an extra 6 Euros a night, and the Hotel had advised the website to include. We wrote to Latestays, no response, and the Hotel were unwilling to honour their advertised inclusions-very disappointing.
The pool area is nice (although not enough deck chairs, and the Hotel does nothing to stop guests from "claiming" a chair early in the morning, and not using for hours. Also the Hotel invites any of the public to the pool so this adds to the overcrowding.
It was difficult to find staff members to discuss anything with, plus the rooms were very tired, with old fashioned decor (which is fine), but mattresses on the beds were old, uncomfortable and lumpy with uneven springs.
Breakfast was continental and filling enough, and efficiently served by the friendly ladies. Made up of 2 x fresh bread rolls, a hard boiled egg, a slice of processed meat, and butter, jam, honey. This got quite monotonous after a few days, and we would suggest the use of local fresh produce (olives, yogurt, cheese, tomatoes etc) vs all the processed food would improve this dramatically.
The view from the balcony was great, looking down the bay - the hotel is located at the end of Kefalos beach.
Basically we had a booking at another htl and paid 40% more for the Ionikos for air con and location, so not a good overall experience, and we would not stay here again.
- 2eirinis (10/5): Excellent! - We spent a lovely weekend with my friend at Ionikos hotel!
Amazing view!!!One of the top beach is 5 min walking!Very clean room and warm owners!tasty and clean meals! They work a lot to please everyone!Definitely will visit again!
- blondie059 (10/5): lonikos hotel - My husband and I stayed here we absolutely loved it, it was so relaxing pool was great nice and warm food was lovely breakfast was only Continental shame really but there were places nearby were u could get one rooms were clean and basic no tea making facilities in rooms but I took a travel kettle the people in this hotel are so friendly they make you feel so welcome especially Chrissy she is such a lovely lady nothing is to much trouble for her she works so hard and always has a smile on her face she goes that extra mile for her guests the hotel is in a lovely spot we hired a car for a couple of days to see the island which is something we always do when we go away but I can honestly the people from the hotel to the shops were all so friendly I would just like to say thank you Chrissy for a lovely holiday this hotel wouldn't be the same without you hope to see you soon xxx
- conniei522 (10/5): One of the best Holidays I have ever experienced and I have travelled the World - The Hotel is situated very near the Beach with a huge pool and the most beautiful Gardens. The Bedrooms are simply furnished but of the highest quality in cleanliness The Room contains a Fridge which is a necessity and though there are no Tea Facilities you can get a Kettle and Cups Breakfast is Continental and the Pool Bar serves delicious meals at a very reasonable price Service throughout the entire Hotel is of the very best ever by Staff that are so friendly kind and nothing is too much effort The Hotel is run by a wonderful Family that made me feel as if I was at Home from the day I arrived Being disabled and elderly I was a bit apprehensive that that soon disappeared because they went out of their way to assist me with every thing There is a Supermarket just up the Road and also a Bust Stop where you can catch a Bus to any where you wish to go The lady doing the Bedrooms to the Ladies that do the Restaurant all speak English and ever so friendly and helpful and the Husband at the Bar are all so friendly and all make you feel so special The beautiful part also of this Hotel is that it has lovely places to walk and places to see like the Basilica so ancient and fascinating Any trips you wish to make Chrissii at the Bar will organise for you I was unable through my disability to go to swim on the Beach and the Family organised the Son to take me daily into the Sea for a swim I spent 2 weeks there and was so so sad to leave because of the kindness of these wonderful People and I met quite a few People that go back there Year after Year and no doubt I will be going back to see these amazing People again
- Bradpack (10/5): Hotel Pool and Bar area - no such thing as a free lunch!!! - My wife and I have been visting this restuarant and pool for 3 years and can honestly say that we are very happy with the food and the service provided. It would seem that because the sign states that it is a public pool some people think that they can use the sunbeds without buying at least a drink. Public means that it is not restricted to Hotel guests but not free to use! As it is a relatively small pool on occasions the sunbeds are fully occupied sometimes by people who apparently think that it is ok to do so without buying anything. On those occasions they are normally informed that it is usual to make a purchase of some kind and the majority are happy to do so. We have never experienced any bad manners, in fact just the opposite. The "waitress" Chrysoula is very friendly and helpful as are all the staff including the young sons.
- shirleyvsays (4/5): Public pool or public humiliation? - We waited for menus for what seemed like an age at this little pool bar of the hotel next to us and when we finally asked for them, the man behind the bar who was more interested in counting money than actually serving, grunted and a girl who spoke little English came over with them. The food was decent when it came and the location is great for the beach...we did however overhear a conversation between a waitress and a couple who had been sunbathing which can only be described as mortifying and must have felt humiliating for them and they eventually left. After reading other reviews we would have to agree, either change the sign to make customers aware of what is expected or have the decency not to embarrass people in front of others. If it wasn't for the location we might not have decided to come back. Bad manners. Okay service. Great location.
Comodo a tutti i ristorantini e servizi. I pelosi dell'isola apprezzeranno!
Ci torneremo sicuramente!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fab view, location & facilities - Lovely quiet hotel. Great swimming pool and amazing, freshly cooked food. Has fantasic views directly over the bay and is a one minute walk away from the beach.
Clima ventilato. Cosa chiedete di più? Consiglio. ...noleggiare un auto
