- Sefi (10/5): -
- Alberto (10/5): - The onsen and surrounding area were very beautiful. I liked the authentic Japanese style room I slept in. The dinner and breakfast were really delicious as well.
- Muratcan (10/5): -

- Patrícia (10/5): Lovely stay in Hakone - Staff was friendly from the start and spoke good English. The food served for breakfast and dinner was delightful and in large portions.
We stayed in the room that had a private bath, but both the private and the public bath were in great condition. The possibility to have 30 minutes for yourself on a private onsen was very interesting and is very foreigner-friendly for onsen first-timers.
When you are not with a lot of luggage, Gora Station is a transportation hub in Hakone, so being close to it is very convenient. The hill from Gora Station is really challenging to go up to, but the hotel had sent clear instructions to get off in a closer station when we were going there, called Koen Shimo. With our suitcases, this is a much more comfortable experience, and only 90 yen from Gora Station in the cable car.
We did not have our large suitcases because we only stayed 2 nights, but I think it would also be challenging to bring suitcases on the stairs to the room (there are no elevators).

- Trudy (10/5): Absolutely wonderful for our first ryokan experience! - Beautiful views from the Onsens of the garden. Both onsens were wonderful! We had a bit of trouble finding it since we came from the cable car.
- Angelo Kanashiro (10/5): -
- Josiah (10/5): - Amazing staff. Very helpful.
- Zahrah (9/5): Perfect ryokan experience for beginners - The most amazing kaiseki meal for dinner and breakfast. Exceeded my expectations. The private onsen option was great. The staff were lovely and accomodating of my fish allergies. We also had our baby with us. Common areas are a bit dated and need refreshing.
- Zeina (10/5): Peace and pampering in gorgeous mountain - Beautiful setting, outstanding and plentiful food. Relaxing environment. Lovely onsen. Excellent staff. Spacious room where staff sets up and puts away the futon. I wish I could have stayed longer

- Elana (9/5): Accommodating of dietary restrictions (just communicate in advance!) and a great stay overall - I messaged the team through the booking.com site in advance to ask if they would be willing to accommodate a long/somewhat complex list of dietary restrictions (essentially, no shellfish or certain other fish like eel, octopus, etc. and no pork). Since we’d be eating 2 meals a day wherever we stayed, it was very important to me that this be accommodated as best as possible. The team acknowledged they might not be perfect (it was a long list!) but would do their best. They absolutely exceeded my expectations in this regard - at each meal, the staff checked with me to make sure that each fish was ok. No courses needed to be skipped, just substituted. We were three people and two of us had different restrictions while one ate everything. The person with no restrictions was served the normal meal as we’d hoped. The staff deserves big kudos for making this happen given the language barrier and nature of the meals served. Thank you!!
We truly enjoyed all other aspects of the stay as well. Wall to wall carpeting, art, etc. is dated so it cheapens the look of the (otherwise very lovely) facility a bit
- jep (8/5): -
- Irene (10/5): - Gorgeous location, very welcoming staff, impressive meals, great onsen N/a
- XUKANG (9/5): -
- Karl (8/5): - Lovely location, although a bit of a hike up the hill ( but everywhere is!). Lovely serene onsen, good food, fun fancy dress for dinner.
- Revian (7/5): - The food was exceptional. The surroundings are stunning, and the location is excellent.
The rooms were very spacious. I was under the impression that the onsen would be switched daily between man and women. However, you always got the same onsen at the same time, which is a shame since, as a parent, i could only experience one since i had to wait till the kids slept
We asked for plain white rice for our child. But somehow there were always vegetables in it.
- Darya (8/5): - Exceptional personal and service. Delicious tea in the room. Traditional Japanese food (but you should be ready for some raw staff) Unstable TV signal, no curtains that can hide from sun in the morning.
- Inga (9/5): We loved Hakone & Lalaca is an authentic & unflashy choice for the area. - Authentic experience in a beautiful location, with exceptional local food & lovely staff. Could do with an update of the communal areas.
- jessie (9/5): - Les onsens, et le repas
- adam (8/5): - 70s style hotel with traditional room decor (rattan floor, futons etc) a short (uphill) walk from Gora station. Opted for the Jpanaese dinner and breakfast which were beatifully presented. Rooms have a sink and WC but showering is done in the communal (single sex) onsens downstairs. In the evening one of these small covered outdoor onsens is reserved for guests so each room can book it for 30 mins and then use it privately (mixed)
- Lauri (9/5): -
- Maitreya (10/5): An excellent ryokan and loved every minute! - Excellent Ryokan and very hospitable and caring with every detail had been thought off and addressed. The food was excellent.
Loved everything with no bone to pick ! Highly recommend this jewel!
- Daniel Pentzlin-Kordecki (10/5): - Very friendly staff; excellent kaseki dinner and breakfast in a convenient restaurant setting; spacious room; comfortable seating arrangement in the lobby in front of large windows (with plenty of games); authentic and real (sulfuric) hot spring onsen. Building is a bit dated (especially the wood paneling by the onsen) but this is not really an issue since it's clean and with a nice atmosphere inside.
- Serhan Andas (10/5): great place for a traditional stay - great traditional place to stay. you need to take the train from Hakone to reach which takes like 30mins. there is fix menu for breakfast and dinner which you can attend with traditional clothes as well which is provided by the hotel. private onsen was also amazing specially at night. Overall very happy with the experience. staff was also extremely helpful. nothing particular
- mary (9/5): Family run by thoughtful, kind people - The proprietor was kind and helpful; the meals were well prepared and intricate and the setting was peaceful and authentic for a Ryokan Would prefer that smoking was not allowed in the establishment-even though there was a “smoking room” the cigarette smoke carried into the common area
- K (9/5): Lovely! Amazing experience, clean, food was great, everything was very comfortable. - Clean and comfortable. Food was delicious. They were able to cater to our special diet It’s easy to get to, but it’s either up a hill or you are walking on the side of the road
- Luca (10/5): -
- Judy (10/5): - Lovely place. Great experience. Food was incredible.
- Dries (10/5): Perfect Japanese experience with a kind and welcoming atmosphere - Really enjoyed our stay here. I’m British and my partner is Dutch and it’s our first time in Japan so we wanted to stay 2 nights in Hakone as we travel from Tokyo to Kyoto.
We were really overwhelmed when trying to find a place to stay as there are so many options in different locations, with all sorts of prices and offerings. We ended up choosing Lalaca and we are so glad we did as it was perfect for us.
It doesn’t have many guests at one time which we really loved as it felt quite personal and cosy. I think there were maybe 18 guests staying there including us.
The room was simple and beautiful and very clean with an amazing view.
We had dinner and breakfast including and wow what an experience. So much work goes into this traditional Japanese cooking. There are so many small dishes. There is a lot of fish. It was really beautiful. They think about it a lot as those on their first night get a different dinner to those on their second night and same with breakfast so you’re always eating something new and they make sure you have one dinner by the window and one breakfast by the window. I’m not sure what happens if you stay more than 2 nights.
The staff were incredibly warm and friendly. I asked them to help me organise a small surprise for my partners birthday and they seemed really happy to do so.
The location was great. If you’re travelling on public transport like we were you just got to Gora station and walk from there. It’s about an 8 minute walk but a few minutes of that is uphill so will be tricky if you have a lot of luggage. We had backpacks and we enjoy walking so it was more than fine for us. Also this location is great as you are on the Hakone loop. Top tip get the Hakone freepass and do the cable car, rope way, pirate ship etc. It’s a great day out to easily explore the area. You just walk to join the cable car at Gora station.
- YUYA (7/5): -
- Heather (8/5): - Gora is a great location to see the sights in Hakone
The private onsen was nice
The food was plentiful but was a set menu

- Nikola (10/5): - Highly recommend this ryokan! It was an amazing experience from beginning to the end. The dinner and breakfast were unbelievable good, served in a nice environment by great staff. The onsen experience was also amazing. Having the ability to reserve a private onset for 30 minutes per day was just perfect. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The room was also amazing with a nice view to the other side of Gora and its mountains.
I will definitely stay here again when I visit Hakone. The ryokan was well located. It was walkable from Gora Station even with luggage.
- Corinne (10/5): Amazing ryokan with great options for vegetarians! -
- Wanchen (10/5): -
- Hiroaki (8/5): -
- Carole Ann (9/5): Pleasant stay - Small establishment. Free use of the private onsen was a pleasant surprise. Food was wonderful! We were prepared for the walk, but those coming by foot need to do some uphill walking. Luggage forwarding may be a consideration.
- Masatsura (8/5): -
- Tessa (8/5): Wonderful stay, loved the food and the onsen! There was a private onsen, but the public one was just as good too! - Loved the food, service and onsen Location is not so accessible from the station if you have luggage, but you can take a quick taxi ride.
- Mai (8/5): -
- Anna (10/5): -
- Samuel (9/5): - The breakfast and dinner were both excellent and the onsen was nice, but I particularly liked the staff. They were extremely friendly and helpful, and made the stay feel special. I also think Lalaca offers a great value for what you pay, given that you get a great breakfast and multi course dinner with your room rate.
- Alain (10/5): -
- Yi Lun (5/5): - Facilities were quite dated. The onsen was quite small. I also expected more from the dinner and breakfast. At the same time the hotel was overpriced. I am not sure why this hotel is so highly rated.
- Masamichi (7/5): -
- Kei (5/5): -
- Amélie (10/5): -
- Amanda (10/5): Very relaxing stay - We really enjoyed our time here. The staff were great, the food was good and the rooms were comfortable. Being in Japan in the winter we were really excited our room had heat! We enjoyed using the onsens both the public and private one. Nothing
- Sylvia (10/5): My son and I really enjoyed our one night stay. - The room was comfortable and clean. The meals were delicious. We could walk to nearby sights. The staff was very friendly and we were even offered a ride to the train station when we left.
- Giancarlo (10/5): Soggiorno meraviglioso in struttura molto ben tenuta e con personale straordinario - Tutto. Staff eccezionale, servizio top!! Nulla.
- Josh (10/5): - Private onsen is offered to guests daily for a short time - this really made the stay at lalaca memorable. Service 10/10 with all staff being very friendly. Nothing to dislike
- Ruth Esther (10/5): - I loved how accommodating and english-friendly the staff are. The location is easy to go to. Their meals are also very delicious, truly Japanese. The onsen was great. Very peaceful, we were able to appreciate the serenity of the place. The facilities may use a bit of an update, but the place was still clean. The price could also be a bit better, compared to other onsens in the area, their price is a bit steep.
- Anna (10/5): -
- Françoise (9/5): -
- Joy (10/5): -
- Li (9/5): -
- Simon (9/5): Beautiful ryuken in an amazing setting - Onsen was amazing, dinner and breakfast were elaborate and beautiful. Hotel was a little far from the train station.
- Kelli Kessler (8/5): -
