Guest Reviews
- Bridget (6/5): - Very basic lodgings. Room was spacious and decently furnished including a refrigerator and microwave. Not even a vending machine in sight. Nothing nearby except a gas station and a small Wegmans down the road. It was what I needed at the time so I am satisfied but go with low expectations.
- Tamika (2/5): - Never again! Dirty room with horrible smell.
- Paul (4/5): - No pets. Room was okish. Bathroom was small & shower curtains moldy, & dead bugs in the tub. Desk clerk barely spoke English.
- Christopher (10/5): - Nice friendship
- Mohit (8/5): - Economical
- Jill (6/5): - It's a place to lay your head. Couple bugs and spiders. Bathroom is old as the hills, but the bed had a really nice soft blanket on it.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room was extremely overpriced. Friendly staff.
- Peter (8/5): - There was a nice big lawn.
- Rodney (6/5): Ok for the price just barely. - Place was clean but very out dated. Matress was good. Had refrigerator and microwave but no coffee pot. One building was shady looking probably local monthly rentals. If they put us in that one we would not have stayed there. The one we stayed in was ok. No big towels or kleenex.
- Victoria (6/5): - Decent enough hotel but needs some update.
- Joshua (8/5): - Good
- William (4/5): - Smell and the Bathroom needs serious updating Dirty!
- Aaron (4/5): - It was so dirty I had to buy certain items like soap and shower shoes to feel comfortable there
- P2252UFelizabethm (2/5): One star review - Would never go there again they burn our stuff that was going they were rude they would not let you have a kitten after they gave you the kitten to catch the mouse in the room as for the room it was cold
- Eri (10/5): - Booked 1king bed room. But the staff could changed to 2double bed room for 2adults and 2kids. Thank you.
- James (6/5): Nothing special - First of all there was no toilet paper in our bathroom. No cups, no list of television stations available in the room.
- michael (8/5): - It was cheap.
- Vanessa (4/5): - Sheets was dirty my door was not properly locked or secured. Drug addicts in front of hotel
- Jonathan (6/5): - This is a simple and old location it was clean and beds were ok with fridge and microwave. The price was low 79$compared to other locations 150 during leaf peeping. People who are used to things going their way may not like it. this is not a location for a KAREN
type. Location boring unless you plan on Visiting Samuel Clemons grave. The pictures are nicer then reality. Would I stay again sure.
- Susan (10/5): - Very friendly hosts.
- Edward (6/5): - Much of the motel reflected 1950s motor court that hadn't been updated. Curtain mechanisms broken. Most lights and phone were unplugged. Dead bolt on door lock would not work.
- PHILLIP M BOWLER (10/5): - IT WORKED FOR ME!
- Alexander (4/5): - This place is dinge, out dated in need of major repairs or being torn down an a new hotel built. It was one step up from a jail cell. Now i understand why newly released inmates are sent there. Luckily I did not see any bed bugs. $60 per night was still too high of arate!
- Corrie (2/5): - I ended up covered in bedbug bites. Also there was used soap in the shower. They obviously didn't clean it after the previous people
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Nasty bathroom, no soap, no cups
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This Motel is quite dated, and gives off an old feel. It did have modern amenities like a flat screen TV, a fridge, microwave, and key card reader; however the bathroom was quite dated(original, perhaps?) with shower scum/mold on the business side of the shower curtain, which was a turn off. The gentlemen that checked us in was VERY friendly and accomodating, as he openly recommended places to eat and visit during our stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - .
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property was adequate.
- Diane (2/5): - Place was beyond disgusting. Didn’t even stay and no refund.
- Jere (8/5): Worn but cean and worth the price - Good for the price and clean...But, worn
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Price was great
Few other guest parked close to room where i could see car from room.
Coffee not available
- jennifer (2/5): Better Off Renting A Cardboard Box From A Bum - The staff was rude. They were disorganized. The room itself was just above a cardboard box. Dirty. No coffee or coffee maker. No anything. I had to clean the room before touching anything.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Wasn't the cleanest room was very small and hard to find an outlet to plug in phone no info given at check in for the free wifi
- DanW (2/5): - DO NOT stay here. The place is a nightmare. Desk clerk not wearing a mask, rooms in disrepair. I can handle outdated, and expect that for this rate, but what I DO NOT expect is for a bathroom to be filthy, and for my room to go untouched for the entire length of my stay. Not cleaned once. At least drop off a fresh towel, please? TOTAL DUMP. DO NOT STAY HERE.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was a place to sleep but hate it honestly the rooms looked clean but when I wiped it down there was dirt and a lot of dust I found and same with the bathroom it was so dirty I had to throw away my white towels after I had to bleach them down and the tv in the room had no remote and the mini fridge was not put back together after they cleaned it out it’s a terrible place to be but if u need a place to sleep u will take what you can get honestly I would have rather stayed in my car it’s sad
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room was dirty. The counter person was not friendly at all. The place smelled bad. The curtains falling off rod. There was mice pellets behind microwave. Shower was dirty. Light switch was not fire safe. Pillows were very old. He key card didn't work at first to open the door.
- Robert (2/5): Disgusting Dirty room - Disgusting filthy no toliet paper no waste basket plastic covers on mattress. Everytime I rolled over I woke up because of the plastic crackling. Heat only stayed on high stayed at 80 degrees all night had to shut down then start when it got cold up all night. Bathtub had mold and rust on metal drain if you look close you can see boot prints they looked like blood stains. Dont know what that is above the door lucky it didnt fall on us. You need to look at hotels and motels before you sponsor them on your website. Really pissed off that you would let your customers stay ay a place like that. Pictures on web site are all lies does not look like pictures.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - View of the mountains from outside. Bathroom was sub standard. No tub grab bars, no non-slip tub bottom, no sink vanity counter, noisy bath fan, no parking adjacent to room.
- georgekunz (10/5): it's fine - I checked in with my 11 year old son. Greeted by the dad who had his two year old running around. Good start. Safe family feel. When we went to the room I kept wanting to say, "you get what you pay for"...for example, no towels...but the towels were above eye level. no electric socket....but they were below the mirror. On and on. The stay was fine. One criticism. On priceline, the photo is upside down. Fix that! I told the host that and he giggled. That almost was a game changer for me when I wasnt sure. But I'm glad I went. I love indy motels.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was filthy! I wore a pair of light blue crocs in the room. The bottoms were literally black when I packed them to come home! There was long black hairs in the bathroom and I have very short hair and my husband is bald! I don’t believe the rooms are cleaned! The bed was fine and very comfortable! I would not stay there again!!!!
- Lee (4/5): - probably won't want to stay there again..just old and run down.. won't recommend it
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Easy check-in and out. Room were clean. Parking was easy. No problems at all.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was very cordual & extremely helpful. however, the motel itself was in desperate need of repair.
- Patricia (8/5): Good place to stay! - The staff was super helpful!! The place isn't fancy, but it is clean, good hot water flow, good AC, and a great TV. WIFI worked well also.
- danielmR5402FY (2/5): Maybe worth it for $45... but not for more. - Went for the weekend which turned out to be the night before a race at Watkins Glen. They jacked the price up BIG TIME because other hotels closer to the race were booked. I thought, "Oh well, the cheap rooms are booked." Oh, no! You don't get more down-scale than the room we stayed in for a ridiculous $120! I was very upset to find out the $120 even only covered one night, and I must say the woman handled me professionally, but her husband (?) was crazy. The rooms weren't filthy or anything; it's just this was absolutely a rock-bottom, one-star welfare hotel
I'm even angrier at Priceline. Because I booked with Priceline, they demanded the full $120 for the night, even though there were many, many empty rooms. For the 2nd night, I could see the place was going for $45, but they demanded $60 because that was what I agreed to on Priceline, even though I had only made a reservation, not a purchase.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - They show pictures of the front of the hotel and its all nice and clean and family friendly but the actual rooms are around back and its dirty nasty falling down has mold on the ceiling the inside of the room was dirty and the tub was disgusting
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The rooms are a little dated but the price is great. If you want the Hilton, don't come here. If you want an affordable, clean room to spend the night, this is the place to go. The staff is very friendly. We'll definitely go back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Simple but nice. Staff was friendly and ready to help if needed
- michaelpH2708QB (2/5): Run! - Does not look horrible from the front and has beautiful backdrop. The people working do not talk English and can not answer any questions you may have. Then our room was not on the “ok” looking front, but rather in the back with people who live here! Some one seriously had a cage of parakeet’s hanging out the door. The cars parked are dented and look like they do not run. The tv just says “no signal” and never came on. There is a dead bolt but the chain lock is missing the part the chain hooks into. Made reservations on line after looking for a place to stay after hiking the Watkins Glen State Park. Would never stay here again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Not sure how they r running the business. Not sure how I booked that hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location is very convenient to Elmira College. The staff were very nice and helpful. Only compliant is no ice machine. The room was nice size with comfortable beds.
- Kenneth (2/5): - Drove 16 hrs from Daytona beach, had reservation for 3 weeks, and no one there who could check me in......waited 20 mins for nothing.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was semi quiet, the wifi kept going down though funniest part is the last 3 times my girlfriend and I stayed we have had the same room
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed - There was no toilet paper in the bathroom. There were personal hairs on the toilet. The TV said "Please Wait" but it never came on. My laptop registered that I was connected to the motel's wifi, but the signal was not strong enough for me to access any websites. I will not stay there again.
- James (8/5): So so - Checked out early
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We did not stay even though it was getting late at night. Granted - there had been a snowstorm the day before but there was basically no place to park without leaving no space for someone else to get by. The manager kept changing the room for better parking that did not exist. When we asked to see the room, the manager could not open the door with the magnetic card and then tried the key and still could not get the door open. He said that we would need to wait for the room to heat up (assuming we could get inside). He had no record of our reservation and had no specific room reserved. We ended up staying at The Red Carpet Inn that we noticed on the way to the Mark Twain Motor Inn and although the room needed some work, at least there was ample parking and the room was already warm when we opened the door. Moral of the story for us - always pick a name we trust like Red Roof Inn, Econolodge, etc.
- Jessica (6/5): Mediocre - People were friendly but the place is run down and was not very clean.
- K (2/5): - So in lone behind aomeone with a service animal the manager was absolutly rude and refused to give the room that was booked. I got my room and no ashtrays in a smoking room. Celing tiles missing, everything dirty. Will post pics. Still dumbfounded by the poor customer service. W22by poor customer service
- Verified traveler (2/5): Unsatisfactory experience - The smell in the room was awful! The bed was very uncomfortable and the TV was broken
- Cindy (8/5): - Good staff. Reasonable rates. Nice basic motel. Has microwave and refrigerator.
- Elaine (6/5): Not as I expected based from previous reviews - The outside looks nice and quaint. But the inside is a different story. The room had a musky smell. It looked like there was blood by the doorway.. i didn't want to think too much about it. The curtains were stuck, the door was jammed, the TV dropped out, wifi wasn't provided unless you request for it at the front desk, and it was a chilly night since the thermostat doesn't work. The bed was made and the sheets looked clean, we only needed to stay the night so no complaint on that part.
- Maria201406 (6/5): It's OK for two nights - The size of the room was good. Beds are comfy. Easy registration. There was microwave. Good air conditioner. Wi-Fi was pretty good. Quiet.
Not very clean. No coffeemaker or teapot. First day- almost no toilet paper. A little bit far from all the interesting spots of this area.
- Joseph (2/5): AVOID! Do not stay here! - Run down, not clean, locks and front doors don’t close/stay closed. Dirty, tub drains super slow. Tiny room. The bed was lumpy. Pillows were thin. Hotel employees were either incompetent or playing games. If this is any indication of how I feel, the only positive thing that I can say about this hotel is the parking as close to your room. F rating.
- Heather (2/5): Horrifying - This hotel room was disgusting. It smelled like stale beer and just filth. There was 1 working plug, toothpaste spots on the mirror. In the ceiling of the shower was just left exposed. There was absolutely no towels for a shower but I did have a washcloth and the small hand towel. The way this room was left for me was unacceptable.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible! - We dropped off our bags and left in a few minutes. We came back after dark and reaaluzed the room had dust on the cabinets, frig, etc. You could write your name in the dirt under the TV screen. Using the toilet we discovered it had not been cleaned. Disgusting. We could not wait to get out of there!
- Phil (6/5): Great Location - We chose the Mark Twain Motor Inn because it's close to downtown Elmira, NY and offered very reasonable rates. But the room had a bad odor even though it was a non-smoking room, and seemed like the carpet and bathroom hadn't been thoroughly cleaned. On the plus side, the hotel staff were pleasant and very accommodating. Check-in and check-out were easy.
- Leon (8/5): - I like this place because it's cheap. I just need a place to sleep for the night. I don't need fancy. I'm happy with my experience.
- Tom (8/5): - Clean, frig, microwave, comfortable bed. That's what I wanted.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Barely ok. Old, old, old but relatively clean. Sketchy long termers is sketchy town...
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Hotel/motels in such condition should not be allowed to operate
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean. Bathtub was in poor condition though workable. Very unsightly with old Caulk peeling from around tub. Otherwise, nice place though yard maintenance needs work. First impression upon pulling into parking lot was not good. Appeared to be unkept and ramshackle on outside.
- Michelle (6/5): - The staff are kind. Previously stayed there and was satisfied. Not sure if new owners.
Property needs many repairs. Room was not clean. Microwave didn't work. Refrigerator was stained. Toilet rocked. Bathtub and shower curtain dirty. Dingy and very outdated. Small rooms. With a little TLC and a good handyman, property could be really nice.
- Sam (4/5): Dump Hotel - The place is a dump. It smells and is dirty. The AC did not work correctly, and maid service only one day. Just a real bad experience. Will not stay again.
- F. Gregory (6/5): - Considerable modernization is sorely needed, although the price was reasonable for what I got...
- Lonnie (10/5): Business Traveler - I am in town for business until November. The hotel is a great price, Quiet, and a good place to get rest. My room has Wi-Fi, refrigerator and a microwave. Staff is very accommodating.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The bath tub had not been cleaned in a very long time. I could write in the dust on the black appliances.
We never took our socks off.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It’s good for what it is. Quiet clean enough for a good night sleep.
- Luther (2/5): Expensive for what you don't get - TV did not work. No cups. Messy entrance to room. At $78 only a bargain relative to other hotels in the area.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I am sure when Mark Twain was alive it was a nice place
- Robert (6/5): - It's cheap and a place to sleep during the race weekend.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - the worst hotel ive ever stayed at!
- STEVEN (2/5): Spend a few more dollars - Paid up front for two nights...had I seen the room before paying I wouldn't have done it...deplorable
- Verified traveler (8/5): A-OK! - This place really surprised us. Sure, it's not the most modern, but everything worked in the room, staff at front desk were friendly, setting was green and quiet, and the room was cozy and clean. The only thing missing for me personally was space in the bathroom to put toiletries, but all in all we enjoyed our stay.
- Ram (10/5): - Calm, comfortable, clean and aging place to stay. All good. No complaints.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - nonsmoking room smell of smokeI was change anther room I was hard press to fine power hookup.i need unplug light to turn on microwave.i need to ask for bath room plug for tub also had to request garbage pickup in my room the hotel was quite
- David (8/5): Not as bad as it looks - Just a little better than the price suggest. Bed was good, room was clean, only complaint, heaters in the two rooms I stayed in took over an hour to warm the room, all in all, ok
- Donald (6/5): Good value for a short stay - The motel is a low-cost, basic place that fit my needs in that it was clean and comfortable. My only 'complaint' was that the heating system was a bit touchy -- first too warm then too cool. I suspect the internal thermostat is weak.
- Veronica (10/5): nice - love staying in this place. so close to were i have to go when im over there in elmra and dont have to drive far
- Big D (8/5): Inexpensive place to rest - Suppose it's because Mark Twain is buried in the town, they decided to name this place, see no other connection. Older facility, yet not in disrepair. Very pleasant operators. Wide screen TV, refrigerator, microwave, double bed, clean and neat. Quiet and safe neighborhood, everything nearby. Dirt cheap. Sure I'll be back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a fine, central lodging. Perfect for my needs and budget
- bradk878 (4/5): Hotel from Hell..... - This hotel sits in a nice wooded scenic backdrop, and that's about all it has going for it. You get what you pay for....we had no choice when we pulled into town as all the hotels in the area were booked. They had crooked pictures screwed to the wall as decorations, the paint on the walls AND baseboards had been done quite a few times and was tacky. The middle cover on the bed was so "pilled" (little balls of fabric) from being washed 500 times, we thought it must have come from the Mark Twain era. The room smelled very musty. It was clean and no bugs (we checked very carefully). There were threads hanging from the outside cover from being washed so many times. There was no blow dryer and NOT EVEN AN ELECTRIC PLUG in the bathroom. The smoke detector was off the ceiling and sitting on the shelf just like one other person said 6 MONTHS AGO. The one staff member we met was pleasant and personable and wanted the money up front, of course. The landscaping out front was in complete disarray with plastic hanging out everywhere. IN SHORT, this was a cheap hotel. They might even consider renting by the hour....literally. We felt creeped out the entire time we were there.
- Michelle (8/5): Good place to sleep - We unfortunately didn't book a hotel room in Ithaca very far in advance so we had to choose something a little farther away and this worked fine. The front desk staff woman was very nice, check in was easy, parking was easy, right in front of our door. Bed was comfy. Room seemed clean. It's a very old and outdated hotel smelled a little musty but we needed it literally for sleeping and showering as we spent our entire time with friends at their home in Ithaca. It said free HBO but we didn't check. Really I'm assuming that if you're visiting Ithaca you're there for the beautiful scenery and town so you won't spend much time in the hotel room anyways so if you're a late planner like we were and have to stay 30 min from Ithaca, this is good and cheap.
- nick (6/5): Place to crash - Nice owners, clean sheets on a comfortable bed, nothing fancy. Perfect for a place to crash for a night or two when passing through. However, as a maintenance man i can list about 20 things that need attention. Since all i did was sleep there, shower, and leave, it was inexpensive and exactly what I was looking for. Also no sign of bed bugs, always a big concern.
- Alan (6/5): clean room need some work on TV remote - TV channels need work but if your just looking for a place to shower and sleep its ok if your looking for a place to do extra room work on your computer forget it there's not enough room
- rick (8/5): Clean - Friendly, clean , comfortable. Would return. Plenty for the rate.
- Karien J. (10/5): - we stayedthere for our anniversary
- JOHN (8/5): Indycar weekend - We śtayed there during the Indycar races at Watkins Glen. A bit dated. We will be back next year.
- Thomas (2/5): The Mark twain motor Inn is not the worst motel - Not a good stay. Toilet floor bolts were loose , causing me to fall on the floor shattering a glass I was holding. ( I'm handicapped). Bed was extremely firm , not comfortable at all . TV only got a handful of channels. Nice to have the microwave and fridge , but a coffee maker would be nice . Owners very friendly. Simple check in .
- Brian (8/5): Good place to rest in between race day - From the price you can tell it's an older property but everything was clean, new a/c heater units in all rooms. Clean linens every day. The person that checked us in was friendly and very helpful with a few small issues. Small rooms but we were there for the Nascar races at Watkins Glen. The property is about 30 minutes away but the drive is very nice to the track. We would stay again.
