• Regina (8/5): - It was really nice, we had 2 rooms for our family and one of the room had a private hot spring (I think they only have it in the first floor). When you’re booking it’s better to book the rooms in one name if you’re planning on multiple rooms, so that way they can put you guys together but it was fine because we got one room with an Onsen. They also park your car for you because they have their own parking space and they give back your keys at check out.

The gentleman at the front desk who spoke great English was lovely, he helped us with everything and was also attentive during our kaiseki dinner, helping explain everything. We had a tatami room, it was nice, the bathroom a little dated, but the onsen was fabulous. The outdoor onsen was beautiful. Loved our stay here and can recommend it to anyone.

• Emma (10/5): - We stayed here for the ryokan experience and to visit the snow monkeys which we perfectly achieved. The dinner was a masterpiece with so many small dishes I couldn’t count. The staff were lovely and helped get us to the snow monkeys for opening time and arranged to collect us to drop us back to the station which was so appreciated.

They drove us to the Snow Monkey park and to the train station. The breakfast buffet was delicious with so many traditional foods. Onsen was relaxing after a cold day walking around. Will be back!

• SONYA (10/5): Great central location in Yamanouchi - This is a great family friendly hotel. We booked a room with a private onsen which was absolutely worth the extra cost. The hotel has a shuttle which will take you to/from the Yudanaka station and the snow monkey park. This was a great place to stay.

(간단한 빵과 과일, 죽과 간단한 일본 가정식) 석식은 사시미 (회)와 메인 (찜이나 샤브계열 간단한 불로 조리하는 음식)3가지가 나오고 디저트도 함께 나옵니다. 회는 항상 주시고 메인요리는 매일 변경됩니다. 직접 가져오는 주류도 함께 먹을수도 있고 호텔 로비에 주류도 팔고 있어서 석식때 구입하여 같이 먹을 수 있습니다. 숙소는 전체적으로 큰 편이구 단지 벽쪽에서 찬바람이 나옵니다. 그리고 온풍기로 난방을 하다보니 실내가 많이 건조해집니다. 온천은 생각보다 작으며 그래도 야외 온천탕과 내부 온천탕이 있으며 깨끗하게 관리 되고 있습니다. 탕의 온도는 계란 반숙이 될거 같은 매우 뜨거운 온도일때가 가끔있습니다. (매우 뜨겁습니다.) 렌트카를 이용하신다면 호텔 직원분이 주차도 해주십니다. (시간을 말하면 차를 호텔 앞에 준비도 시켜주십니다.) 근처 스키장과 원숭이 공원은 무료 픽업 서비스를 해주시는걸로 알고있습니다. (전 렌트카 이용하여서 잘 모릅니다.) 호텔은 천체적으로 연식이 있어서 오래되었습니다. 하지만 깨끗하게 관리하고 있는 느낌을 받았습니다. 직원들은 나이가 있으시지만 친절하게 응대를 잘해주십니다. 가격 대비 좋은 호텔인거 같습니다. 편히 이용하기 좋습니다.

There was a Japanese garden around the bath. Staff were friendly and had a good sense of humour. There was a free shuttle to the station and the snow monkey park. • Verified traveler (4/5): フロントがホスピタリティに欠けて残念 - 予約とは違うグレードの低い部屋に案内されたので、フロントへ確認と変更を依頼すると、予定の部屋に急遽水回りの工事が入った為できないとのこと。それなら、なぜチェックイン時に何も告げないのかな？と思いつつ、途方に暮れていると、案内担当から部屋の準備ができたので変更する？とのこと。無事予約通りの部屋にはなったが、特に謝罪もなく…。フロントとのやり取りは万事がこの調子で、まるで海外のホテルのよう。最初から旅気分も台無しでした…。 宿泊した2Fの廊下にはトイレのような臭気が漂っていて、ディナー会場は合宿所のような殺風景な場所で金額に見合ったものではありませんでした。 唯一、温泉の露天風呂だけは評価できるので大変残念…。

The room was spacious with tatami mats. Loved the indoor and outdoor baths / springs. Close to everything. Unexpected top notch service and value, indeed a winner.

For added convenience, the hotel offers complimentary pickup and drop-off services from the station with prior arrangement. The hotel's personalized touch impressed us: - Complimentary shuttle services to and from the famous Snow Monkey park at our desired times - Spacious rooms with beautiful tatami mats and stunning outdoor/indoor onsen facilities The dinner was exceptional – Sukiyaki beef. Breakfast was traditional Japanese-style, adding to the authentic experience. Hotel Housei exceeded our expectations, and we would love to return. Additional amenities include a spacious waiting lobby.

• Hwee Chong (10/5): Wonderful base to explore the Yamanouchi area - Wonderful ryokan-style hotel. Stayed for 2 nights with half-board, and the meals (dinner and breakfast) were excellent. The staff were attentive and engaging, taking the time to introduce the dinner menu to us. Chose this place for my children's first ski experience. Just a 30-minute drive to Shiga Kogen where all the ski resorts are. The hotel offers both indoor and outdoor onsens. Simply superb for a hot, relaxing soak after a day on the ski slopes. Highly recommended!

• ETSUKO (10/5): - お世辞にもお部屋は綺麗とは言えません。 浴衣・スリッパのサイズは1サイズのみ。宴会場ですれ違った大柄の男性はアニメキャラクターのバ◯ボンのように浴衣の丈が膝下2センチくらいの着こなしになっていました。 人手不足からかお風呂の脱衣場は定期的な掃除が出来ておらずバレリーナのようにつま先で歩かなくてはなりません。 建物は老朽化が進み、増改築を繰り返したのかとても複雑な構造です。火災がおこらないことを祈りました。 夕食は宴会場に用意されます。煮物は着席してから、茶碗蒸しは直前に置いてくださったのでしょう。温かく美味しくいただきました。 朝食はバイキング。まあ、それなりです。残念なのは用意されていたジュースが100％ではなかったこと。このあたりは健康意識をあげなければいけませんね。 ここまぜ酷評でなぜ5スターをつけたのか？ それはスタッフの方々に嫌な思いを一つもしなかったからです。 今回、わたしたちの旅は愛犬のお誕生日を祝うために近くにある「三才駅」に行くことが目的でした。そのためには愛犬と泊まれる宿探しをChatGPTと使い検索しました。愛犬同伴の確認をメールでしたところとても温かい返信をいただき、到着してからも犬にも私達にも優しく接していただきました。 苦しいコロナ期を乗り越えた旅行業界はこれから回復していかなければなりません。とても応援したくなるそんな宿でした。 脱衣場にルンバを置いて、浴衣はフロントで選ぶ。 これだけで少し改善できるかも。。。

Decided to go for half board - breakfast/dinner - and the food was SO good, especially the second night’s dinner. Staff were all wonderful and attentive and the Onsen (indoor and outdoor) was the perfect way to end the day. 10/10 recommend and will stay here again if I’m back in the area.

• KAZUFUMI (6/5): 長野マラソンで利用しました - 駐車場はありますが、車のキーを預けて宿の方が移動させるので、頻繁の車で出かけるのには向いていません。 長野マラソンの宿泊客には慣れているので、朝も早くからチェックアウトができ、車も直ぐに持ってきてくれました。 設備は値段なりで、畳は張り替えてありましたが設備の古さは目立ちます。 温泉は広くゆったり浸かれますが、露天は結構熱かったので、子供は入れないかもしれません。

• Michael (10/5): - Really enjoyed my 6-night stay here. It really is a traditional Japanese hotel and experience and loved the friendly and helpful staff, and the location is just a short 10 min scenic stroll across the river to the bus/train station. Didnt know what to expect but the Japanese style tatami rooms were cosy and comfy, and the outdoor onsen was just what was needed after a day on the ski slopes. The half-board option is a must if you love Japanese food and each night was like a little banquet with an array of different and fresh local dishes, and was great value. Not a 5-star hotel by any means if thats your thing, but all in all a great stay and good location and Yudanaka is quaint little village at the foot of the Alps, that is worth a wander around, as Shibuya Onsen and Snow Monkeys are closeby. Dōmo arigatōgozaimasu
• Jayvee (10/5): - Loved my stay at Hotel Housei. Yamanouchi is one of my favourite places in Japan and this is a great place to stay as it is within walking distance of Yudanaka and Shibu Onsen. Hotel Housei provides shuttle service to Snow Monkey Park and Ski areas nearby. Dining and breakfast options were great. I must also mention the staff is very English-friendly which made things very easy for me.

• c (10/5): - We booked two nights here, and it was amazing. The staff was very attentive and helpful, they even shuttle you to and from monkey park, and the train station! Which I had no idea, so it was a lovely surprise. The outdoor and indoor baths were a fun experience. Our rooms were also clean and comfortable to be in. We’re not used to the traditional Japanese beds, but we managed! Overall experience was lovely. I will definitely be going back next time
• Jason (10/5): Yamanouchi’s Best Small Hotel - This place is simply a gem, everything about the hotel, staff, food was too class and a major benefit was the free on site onsen facilities. It is close to the train station and plenty of great dinning options within easy walking distance from the hotel. The hotel also offers free shuttle bus services for you to the station, the snow monkeys and a few other places, they even took me to the chemist to get medicine for one of our family group members. Cannot rate this hotel highly enough👍
• Verified traveler (10/5): Great onsen experience at bargain price - I picked this hotel for visiting snow monkey hot spring park and its shuttle service to the park and train station. The staff are very friendly. They don’t speak English but using google translate between them and guests solves any barrier. The hotel is dated and it shows but I found everything clean enough and had a very comfortable stay. Highly booking with the meal included. A very good idea all and all and they have both indoor and outdoor onsen areas. Rooms are fairly large and shuttle service is convenient. The owner is friendly and outgoing. I wouldn’t come here only for onsen experience and it was a great stay to combine it with other destinations in the area.

We very much appreciated the complimentary shuttle service and while we only speak English, the staff were so patient with us and we were able to communicate fine. We appreciated being able to store our luggage there after check out. The Japanese-style room with tatami mats and futons really completed our memorable experience of traditional Japanese hospitality. Thank you.
• Bryan (8/5): - The staff were very helpful. The room was spacious. It was amazing to have our own private in-room onsen! We really enjoyed that. It was wonderful to have close access to the Jigakudani Monkey Park and the amazing mountain peaks. My complaint might be directed toward the property or it might be directed toward Expedia. Expedia explicitly stated that there was laundry, but there was no laundry available in the hotel. I specifically looked to book a hotel with laundry in the midst of our mountain trekking trip. I had to schlep my family's bags of dirty clothes 15 minutes across town and sit in a laundromat since there was none in the hotel. Expedia and Hotel Housei need to sit down together and get all the facts straight!
• David (10/5): - We loved staying at Hotel Housei. The staff was so nice. They went out of their way to help. As you are out of the city, English is more challenging but they really try to help communicate with you and ensure your needs are met. I would recommend staying here to really immerse yourself with the Japanese culture. Stay in the Ryokans to sleep on the futon. Rooms are spacious. They provide Kimonos for the Onsen (super relaxing) and a shuttle to see the snow monkeys (really convenient). The hotel is walking distance from the train station. Note that it is about 30 mins to the ski area of Shiga Kogen but they have a bus/shuttle readily available to get to the slopes. I cant speak highly enough of the staff and how friendly and nice they are. I would recommend staying here and would come back.

• Julie Ann (10/5): Experienced Japan in traditional way. - My stay here is definitely one of the highlights of my Japan trip. All the staffs are welcoming. The hospitality they gave to me is superb. The room is so spacious specially for solo traveller like me. And felt the traditional room/atmosphere. I enjoyed the whole afternoon staying inside the hotel with tatami floors. They brought me to snow monkey park entrance and to Yudanaka train station the next day. If you are booking with them, make sure include the halfboard (dinner and buffet breakfast). I enjoyed the food a lot while wearing the traditional dress yukata which they provides.

• Zheyun (10/5): - Wonderfully welcoming staff! We were impressed by the service at check in! They also helped us store luggage on the check out date and offered a ride to the station. We were able to take the free shuttle to see the Snow monkey park (ride at 9:30am and pickup at 12pm). They were very helpful overall, providing recommendation and help with finding restaurant and also providing help with taking the bus to ski resort. Nice Japanese buffet style breakfast and all day onsen. Very cute local speciality stands in the front desk for purchase as gifts. Overall, highly recommend it! Really enjoyed interacting with the staff here.

• Verified traveler (10/5): 穴場の宿 - 安い宿だったのであまり期待はしていなかったのですが、部屋の大きさや温泉、食事も満足です。古めかしさはありますが、値段を考えれば問題ないです。温泉は内風呂は暑めなので、露天のほうが心地よいですね。部屋は満足なのですが、壁が薄いせいか、隣の声などが聞こえてきますので、神経質なかたは、向かないです。自分も隣部屋で部屋飲み宴会されたらやだなあ、と感じました。お世話になりました。

• Nathaniel (10/5): First-class service and and good pricing. - This is my favorite hotel. Although the price is reasonable they are always generous and kind, feeding me delicious meals, parking my car and providing an outdoor onsen which is a special experience in the snow.

• Chun Weng (10/5): The hotel we will keep coming back in the future - One of the best choices I had made was to book this hotel. The helpful staff and hotel transport drivers even brought us to the Jigokudani Monkey Park and Sora Terrace when they knew we did not know how to go there. On our visit to Sora Terrace, the driver drove to pick us up when we contacted the hotel to say that the place had closed for the day, it had turned dark (5.30 pm) and that we were stranded at the exit of the place. We are most grateful to the staff there. particularly the drivers and counter staff.

• Mert (10/5): Incredible Onsen, dinner and staff - Truly great hotel. We got picked up from the station for no extra charge which is always nice. Staff were incredibly friendly from the very outset. English speaking was limited but really didn't matter as the staff went above and beyond in satisfying requests including a very special kids meal. The Onsen natural hot spring bath (indoors and outdoors) was very special. It was also open all night so I went in a few times in the middle of the night when jet lagged. Every course at dinner was delicious. Local area limited but free transfer to and from monkey park, which we were there to see. Accommodation like a traditional woman but very very reasonable price. Very satisfied customer, especially thanks to the amazing staff
• Michael (10/5): Restfull stay with nice Onsen - This hotel has comfortable futon beds, large room with Tatami and private restroom. The Onsen has both indoor and outdoor baths. Hotel is in proximity to the Snow monkeys, a recommended stay.
• Kurt (10/5): Nice hotel and hospitality, thank you. - We had a great time staying in this hotel for one night as a great finale before we headed home after 10 days Japan and ski trip. The staff picked us up at Yudanaka station and shuffled us to the snow monkey park, and we satisfyingly saw many monkeys in bath. This hotel is not located at the busiest part of town so don't expect to do much in neighborhood. However, two spa (one inside and one outdoor) were clean and enjoyable. The traditional Japanese dinnner and the breakfast buffet both exceeded our expectation. Although the staffs can't speak much English, that was not a problem because they understand most and communicate well by excellent translation app. This is clearly a underrated hotel which got a perfect score in hospitality.
• tanyu (8/5): Winter stay - Amazing night at Yamadaka!!! Very kindness staff they provide us a free shuttle service from station to hotel and to snow monkey park. In addition, they also provide a short transport to Shibu onsen. Nice dinner and breakfast, It mostly valuable base on my experience with Ryokan in Japan

• Jessica (10/5): Hotel Housei is the PERFECT Japanese style hotel! - We wanted a traditional Japanese style hotel experience and Hotel Housei was PERFECT! Our room included tea service, kimono style robes and house shoes, and a private onsen with a sliding window open to the snow outside!! Breakfast was buffet style with both familiar and adventurous selections and we were even served traditional Japanese mochi soup (Ozoni) on New Year’s Day! The hotel provided free shuttle service to and from Snow Monkey Park, recommended sledding locations for beginners, and even helped us install the tire chains on our car. Some of the staff spoke English and those who did not patiently used the Google Translate app to communicate with us. We will DEFINITELY be returning to Hotel Housei!

• Lisa (10/5): Great traditional experience - What a sweet, traditional Japanese hotel, complete with futon and pillows to sit on. Much more comfortable that I though sleeping on a cushion would be. Very nice staff. Although they didn't speak English, they had printed sheets with all the information needed translated. Very nice onsen, especially the outdoor pool. Very clean and well maintained.
