Guest Reviews
- Carol (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed it! - Staff was very friendly & helpful. Room was very comfortable.
- Jayne (9/5): A convenient hotel for those looking for reasonable hotel in within Karen area - The closeness to the Karen Golf Club. The rooms were spacious including the bathrooms. Nothing. I only stayed for one night. But I will be back
- Sébastien (10/5): Excellent stay in Karen, good value for money - This place deserves more than its current score.
Staff super friendly and helpful Cereal for breakfast were not the best but its a detail.
- Kelly (10/5): -
- Christina Munck (8/5): -
God mat! Saknades eluttag och hyllor i badrummet
- Leslie (10/5): Great stop off before heading out of Nairobi - Clean and basic for a quick stop in Nairobi.
Natasha on reception was great, friendly and super helpful. Communication throughout the booking process and the stay was amazing. Would stay again. L Na
- Andreea Alina (10/5): Amazing place to stay in Nairobi. - The services were all promptly and very efficient.
Thank you, Natasha, for all your help and advice on our stay in Nairobi! Everything was perfect!
- Uzi (9/5): Peaceful place - The great stuff. The peaceful environment. The size of the room and the very relaxing atmosphere Bed mattress not very comfortable. Bathroom is good but lacks space to put toiletries and hang towels
- Emma (8/5): Safe, secure hotel with lovely staff. Unexpected lunch menu was really good - The hotel has good security and all the staff were helpful and attentive. I had a big room with a balcony and the bed was comfortable and firm. Large bathroom and shower. Breakfast was a selection of whatever I wanted. They prepared a packed breakfast for me so I could go into the National Park (at 6am) which was really helpful. There was a lunchtime menu and I selected the daily special. The food was freshly cooked, really tasty and far exceeded my expectations. I can recommend trying their lunch. The hotel is away from everything, so you will need a car/taxi to get around.
- Neal (8/5): Nice location, great staff, shame about the noise from the dogs at night - very polite staff and very good service Barking dogs at neighbouring properties at nighttime
- Camille (10/5): - The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was also very good!
- Jan (8/5): -
- Harford (8/5): Enjoyable - Great staff, spacious room, nice garden, perfect location. Felt safe and secluded. Bathroom needed shelf for toiletries, towel rail by the basin, bathmat for floor. Breakfast could be a bit tastier!
- Rocky (9/5): - The staff were excellent Everything
- Eva (10/5): - Läget, rent och bra
- Pierre (7/5): Was there too short to use the swimming pool so can’tcomment on that. - The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is very safe. Short uber ride to the hub mall which was lovely . the rooms are a bit outdated and small for a family of 4. The double bed was very small and not very comfortable. The breakfast was average. The staff however was really friendly.
- SazzleHam (7/5): Lovely but a little strange - Lovely impressive looking house with seating area in the well maintained gardens and small pool. Staff are lovely and welcoming especially Gladys at reception. The local area is very safe and secure as it is within a very wealthy area of Nairobi. We walked out to the local waterfront mall for lunch and it's easy enough to get to other places we went to cultiva restaurant after a safari and got a bolt ride back.
there is a communal seating area in the hotel with a real fire which was nice on a cooler evening and they have a small a la carte meal menu if you want to eat in. They also made us a sandwich the evening we left for the airport as we didn't want a large meal. It was really quiet so it was a bit odd that we felt like the only people in the hotel. We only saw a few other guests around in the communal areas so it lacked any kind of ambience.
Food took a while to be prepared although it was tasty when it arrived. When asked for drinks they took a while to come or we had to remind them.
Safe didn't work but you could lock the old fashioned built in wardrobes although I just kept all my valuables with me. I'd describe the rooms as chintzy and typically English old fashioned colours and decor.
Lots of noise from the neighbourhood dogs barking outside and noise from other rooms. Earplugs are provided.
- Patrice (10/5): A beautiful, quiet, secluded place to stay in Karen. - First off, the owner, Elizabeth is one of the nicest people you’re ever going to be! Her staff is exceptional, but I would say Gladys you went above and beyond and so did you Jeff in helping me say goodbye to my Kenya family before my departure!
Beds are so comfortable and the room is so spacious! I was feeling a little bit cold and they put a hot water bottle together for the bed and brought in a small space heater to make it cozy.
- Niklas (8/5): -
- Tessa (8/5): - Friendly staff, good location, nice breakfast, pool The double bed in the family room was a bit too small for two adults (or two older children).
- Candice (10/5): Great stay in Nairobi. - We had a great stay at the Margarita House. The staff were so friendly and helpful. I was traveling with my daughter and we felt safe and were able to get around easily with Uber. We enjoyed the mall for restaurants and shopping which was about a 10 minute walk away. We would definitely stay again. Thank you!
- Josephine (10/5): Fantastic stay, one of the best! - I LOVED everything from the second I entered. The rooms are fabulous, the service is amazing. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinner were good with a good options.
Gladys made me feel so welcome and I really enjoyed speaking with her. Jeff was such a polite waiter at dinner and breakfast .if I could give a score higher than 10 I would ❤️ Nothing!
- Francis (8/5): Staff support is amazing. Very helpful and caring team - Very well located in a quiet area and secure
- Julie (10/5): I come every year and will be adding this place to places I will return to. - Friendly staff and nice rooms!
- Tasha (7/5): Lovely spot for a short stay. - Stayed here for three nights. Gladys and Natasha were both very welcoming and helpful. Lovely small pool in partial shade, towels are provided by reception. We stayed in rooms 7&8 (room 7 had three beds in it and the rooms were able to interconnect. Rooms are a good size and plenty of toiletries are provided. The dinner and lunch menu are the same, so limited. After lunch and dinner on our first night we then ventured out to other places to eat. (There are plenty!). The food however was ok. Gladys kindly arranged a take away breakfast for us one early morning when we went to Nairobi National Park, but Natasha wouldn't do the same again when I had an early flight and just gave me an apple - a bit annoying as I had paid for breakfast. The property was located close to Nairobi national park and the Giraffe centre so easy to get to. Breakfast was a bit slow and ordering process is overly complicated. These rooms did not have tea/coffee facilities so that was a bit annoying as my friend staying in another room did so that's why they get a 7! Some of the mattresses needed toppers or replacing as they weren't comfortable.
- Kindie (9/5): Superb - Keep it up. Booking.com's assistance and provision of a free airport taxi for newcomers who have no information about the country to protect tourists from scammers was very, very helpful.
- Hilary (9/5): Superb - Really lovely staff make you feel very welcome. Lovely quiet hotel with a pleasant garden.
Good breakfast.
- Caroline (8/5): Very good - They let us do a very late checkin, which was very nice. The staff is really nice. They have a very nice garden but we didn’t manage to spend anytime in it.
- Margaret (10/5): Wonderful! Looking forward to vacation here again! - Excellent. Prompt and very professional services. Wide choice of breakfast items. Everything met our expectation.
- Janet (9/5): Great value, nice property, super staff - Great welcome from Gladys when we arrived late & went out of their way to make sure we ate well. Some bedside tables would’ve been helpful.
- Peter (10/5): Underbar vistelse!
Peter, Mary & Anna
- Cathy (10/5): Excellent - The hospitality of the staff was wonderful. The meals were delicious. The facility and grounds were beautiful. N/A
- Dieuwertje (10/5): Great stay! - Very kind team, amazing garden, everything was great Nothing
- Susan (10/5): - Had a great stay! Great staff and good location
- Cynthia (10/5): Exceptional hotel with exceptional hostess - Gladys is wonderful—truly the best Kenya has to offer! She and her staff are warm and responsive, and the hotel is an oasis of comfort. I stayed just one night but made good use of all amenities: the gym, the gardens, the lounge, and the restaurant for all my meals. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
- Heidi (9/5): Great Stay! - Amazing staff, so kind and helpful. Great breakfast and nice room. Nothing, all good.
- Av (10/5): Beautiful place, wonderful host. - Gladys waited for us to arrive despite a very late check in thanks to slow immigration. She also provided a wonderful take away breakfast for us at short notice. Exquisite rooms and wonderful host.
- April (10/5): - Easy and helpful airport pickup and welcoming late night check-in.
- Shuyu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Jenean (9/5): Loved it. Would stay again. - Exceptional customer service. Long wait for food orders
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- James (8/5): A friendly, well situated place to stay when having a night out in Nairobi - Friendly staff, good location Cold, spartan rooms. Too many tiles, not enough comfort
- Kelvin (9/5): A satisfactory experience overall - We had a great stay at Margarita House. Good location - walking distance to the Waterfront Mall -- in a safe neighborhood -- we walked back from dinner twice and no one bothered us (bring a small flash light as there were some uneven paths in the dark). There's a security guard on duty at the gate so one is doubly secured. Spacious rooms. Hearty made-to-order breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff -- special thanks to Gladys. Lush grounds, ergo, lots of bird sounds. We used their reliable driver, Jesse, to get around. Sound travels in the corridor due to concrete floors and walls but it was not a big issue as most guests kept noise level to a minimum.
- Wells (9/5): Beautiful peaceful place; with a warm welcome - Super friendly welcome, nothing too much trouble. Tasty food No other guests (but not your fault)
- c (8/5): - Well maintained property with gardens and pool. Room was spacious with all you'd need. Lovely lounge but dining room is dark.
- Michael (3/5): Poor -
- Anna (8/5): Very good -
- Katherine (9/5): Superb -
- Clive (9/5): Will be our place in Nairobi in future - Fabulous breakfast Extractor fan in bathroom would have been good
- Susan (9/5): Superb - Excellent location. Can walk to waterfront mall and a coffee shop at Karen connection. Hotel grounds very quiet and peaceful.
- Susan (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (9/5): quiet friendly stay in a wonderful area of the city - location is great - it is quiet and lush - but still close to many amenities. Breakfast was filling and generous. The staff are wonderful.
- Melamed (9/5): Superb - excellent place. Safe area. people are very friendly. nice land with a garden
- Louanne (9/5): A great find! - Warm welcome by Natasha
Friendly staff
- Celia (9/5): Wonderful stay at Margarita House - Staff very friendly, food is good, rooms are big, gym onsite with weights and cardio equipment. They upgraded us for free, which was a really nice surprise! As others have mentioned, sound insulation is poor and you can hear dogs barking and people talking outside. Not great if you're a light sleeper
- Godelieve (10/5): great welcome and home from home thanks to lovely team - excellent customer service. gardens, playground kindness of staff. family room you need a taxi 🚖 and or transport to get to it. great transport service however organised by The reception Natasha.
- Veerle (9/5): Beautiful hotel with lovely garden in a peaceful setting -
- Fiona (9/5): Delightful hotel with exceptional staff - The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and meals we had there very tasty. The owner/manager even invited us to join her and her guests at her party when she saw us by the pool one afternoon. Pool was also lovely. Jesse the driver met us at the airport and took us to the hotel and he also did excursions which we took him up on and he made some great suggestions for activities. There was no bar but given it is such a small hotel this is understandable. But as drinks were available at meal times and offered to us when by the pool this turned out to not be a problem. Reception not 24/7, again understandable due to size of hotel but that didn't matter as security is 24/7 so we were able to get back to our room after coming back from a gathering on new year's eve in the early hours. So really there was nothing to complain about.
- Linda (8/5): Very good -
- Giovana (10/5): Great place, staff and location - The staff are exceptional, from Joel who was very responsive when communicating prior to our arrival, to Gladys who was at reception and breakfast, she was incredible, always lovely, with a smile on her face and supper attentive and proactive. She gave us all info we needed, got our breakfast orders the night before so when we arrived for breakfast it was ready for us.
The room was great, really big and extremely clean.
I liked the location as it was close to the main attractions.
Would definitely stay again! Nothing
- Anna (9/5): Welcoming and peaceful stay in Nairobi - Staff was outstanding. Miss Gladys went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and welcome. The chef was accommodating to our diet (vegan). The rooms were large and comfortable. Great location for wonderful restaurants and the Karen Blixen Museum. Also easy to get out of the city if you are driving There are mosquitos in Karen - use the mosquito net provided :)
- Jackie (7/5): We enjoyed our stay at the Margarita House. The people there were lovely. - The location was very relaxing and the staff was very gracious and accommodating. The breakfast was very good and plenty. We had power outages and wifi outages and that is difficult. As wonderful a place as it is, there were a few things that were challenging. The dampness made all the towels very moist and the bathroom has no place to hook anything and to floor mats which is quite dangerous as the water and moisture was high.
- David (9/5): A very quiet hotel which suited my needs with excellent staff. - Great staff. Always very helpful. The room I had was very dark ...
- Amani (5/5): Just improve on the time to serve food. - it a clam place and i liked it The place it self
- Simon (7/5): Good -
- Avital (9/5): Had a lovely time staying at the Margarita House. The staff were friendly and attentive! 10/10 - The staff were excellent. Very fun, attentive and kind. The room was gorgeous too N/A
- Samantha (9/5): Great place. Clean, friendly and safe. Location is excellent. Staff is awesome. - Staff made the stay! Wonderful service and really tried to find ways to make our stay easier and more comfortable. They held our extra luggage when we went to the coast for a few days without any additional cost and were really helpful for my daughter who had to stay a day on her own, letting her hang out and work before going to the airport in the evening. Thank you! Lighting in the rooms. We know electricity is expensive in Nairobi, but lighting made evening activities in the room difficult--reading, packing etc. I recommend an upgrade particularly for reading lamps and use LED bulbs to save $.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eugene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Willem (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (9/5): Superb - Breakfast very good. We walked over to the Mall and had a nice meal at CJ's
- Piva (4/5): wrong choice - the staff ( only 2 people ) was nice and polite. i have chosen this hotel based on the reviews. I was very disappointed by the entire experience. It's a big house with probably 10 rooms. I stayed only 1 night, and i was probably the only one in the hotel. The furniture in the room is cheap and the room looks empty. The bathroom is huge and completely empty, really not nice.
The restaurant is sad, impersonal and empty. The food for the dinner and the breakfast? it was as sad as the rest of the experience. what all the nice hotel in this area this is probably one of the worst.
- David N (10/5): Relaxing two night stay - excellent service - Two night stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary and start a safari visit to Kenya. Really friendly and welcoming staff, relaxing environment, pleasant room, very friendly and helpful staff. Recommended.
- Pamela (6/5): Although the staff are very nice, save your money and stay elsewhere. - Staff members Natasha, Rachel & Jesse were all wonderful and tried to give you 5 star service. Food was terrible, and I do mean awful! They ran out of water. Took 8 hours to be able to flush a toilet as both our rooms had no water all day on Sunday. The area is so loud you cannot get a decent night sleep. The have a chicken coop in the back and roosters start crowing at 1:00am! Dogs barking all night, and I mean multiple dogs. I thought it was strange that earplugs were left in your room?! They don’t help! Water was not put in room daily as they stated it would
- Francesca (8/5): Very good - The staff was really welcoming and helpful The door of the room was broken
- Sara (10/5): Exceptional - Very helpful staff, very good breakfast, nice pool (but a bit cold!), moschito nets on the beds Nothing!
- Cara (10/5): Exceptional - The team is wonderful
- Cara (10/5): Exceptional - The team is wonderful
- Joanna (9/5): Lovely base for exploring Nairobi with the family - Comfortable rooms, lovely staff, wonderful breakfast Nothing, it was great!
- Sonya (8/5): Very good -
- Mahesh (10/5): Great property with the friendliest staff in a quiet neighbourhood -
- Will (8/5): Very good -
- Bergeron (9/5): Very nice place - The staff was very nice, the room large and the place very quiet. I recommend it. Nothing
- Natasha (6/5): Safe, nice stay for short while. - Nice safe location. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was nice. Has a family feel to it. Lack of natural light in rooms. Noisy inconsiderate guests coming back late was sometimes disruptive. Need a taxi/Uber/ car to get to local town/shops. Beds were quite hard.
- Carol (10/5): It was great, & we would definitely stay there again. - The staff was outstanding, & the accommodations & location were great. The chickens from an adjacent property were very loud very early each morning.
- Maria (10/5): Very interesting, historic home with lovely landscaping, attentive service…memorable stay!! - Staff was so helpful and kind! Breakfast made to order and delicious…This place was charming. We enjoyed our stay very much!
- Carolyn (9/5): Superb - Staying at the Margarita House was a treat, mainly because of Rachel, Natasha and Dennis! We felt so cared for by these lovely people. The rooms were lovely and the meals very tasty, especially the breakfast potatoes🙂 We would definitely stay here again. I recommend that if you use their driver, negotiate a price before using him, I had a bad experience.
- Emily (10/5): Amazing hotel! Amazing stay! Amazing staff! HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend! -
- Charlie (8/5): Very good -
- Tara (9/5): A beautiful, safe and welcoming hotel in Karen. Thank you! - The staff were absolutely wonderful! Natasha, Gladys, Rachel, were incredible, as were all of front line workers. I felt safe, welcomed and looked after from the moment I arrived (which was late at night, and I was a solo female traveller coming from a different continent). The facilities and location are lovely, spacious, yet cosy. The rooms were perfect and I slept well every night. The hotel is fantastic, right down to the cosy fireplace. Thank you to the amazing staff. Bring good earplugs if you’re a light sleeper! The rooster crowing in the morning (which I loved) and the neighbour dogs barking at night can get a little loud. They do supply earplugs in the room.
- Julie (10/5): It was a wonderful experience stay there - The friendly people and the cleanliness of true room. Shower head
- Djalila (9/5): Beautiful rooms with absolutely amazing staff - Super nice and friendly staff. Beautiful rooms, good breakfast and very good food in general. Very safe and calm area.
