Breakfast was fresh and delicious. The house and yard are inviting and comfortable. As you would expect, the bathroom was on the small side, but well designed and wonderfully functional with a shelf for toiletries, plenty of hooks and a nightlight. The bed was comfortable and I particularly like a stand with lamps and outlets on BOTH sides of the bed. I have stayed in many hotels and B&Bs, and this one checks all my amenity boxes. Connie is an excellent host. I am picky and have no suggestions.

My one suggestion, for those traveling, is to start breakfast service a bit earlier than 8:00 AM.

Our family occupied two rooms and each room was clean and with the necessary amenities including private bathrooms. The owner, Connie, was very welcoming and provided us with a wonderful breakfast. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Maine!

These two things made our stay five star. This is a real bed and breakfast in a lovely but not luxurious heritage house, with a tiny cozy sitting room, and a bright airy dining area. Very dog friendly, although this was not important to us. No annoyances caused by the dogs at all however. Maybe bigger room size, but we were comfortable, and it is a vintage property. Steep staircase, again not unexpected, just something to know if you have trouble with stairs

- Michael (8/5): Candlebay Inn a charming step back in time - Beautiful building built in 1848. You're renting charm and comfort and coziness rather than full services. We appreciated the welcoming and helpful innkeeper, easy parking, large king "Evergreen" room, comfortable bed, good wifi, good water pressure. They offer a competitive rate, really good cooked breakfast (including good strong coffee), quiet street just off Route 1 in Freeport, close to LLBean, other shops and restaurants. We will probably stay here again. The 14 stair steps to upstairs rooms presented a challenge at the end of the day (innkeeper Connie helped with luggage). Front steps a challenge with no ramp. Candlebay is dog friendly and four dogs were in residence during our stay. Three were well-behaved. The fourth barked incessantly, waking us at 715 am. Neither a deal breaker but a heads-up. Bathrooms vary in size. Evergreen room's is huge.

A lovely place to retreat to-easy for those who don't drive to get to from the Freeport train station. The rooms are cozy and stately.

- David (9/5): Lovely quaint old inn, full of character and charm - Lovely old Inn, with many of its original features, which we loved. The room was very nice and the bed very comfortable. Lots of nice little touches, snacks toiletries etc. Connie, the owner, was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The homemade breakfast was delicious , made by Connie’s daughter. Nice parking area and gardens with seating. The whole area felt very safe. We would definitely recommend this Inn and would return if we revisit Freeport. Nothing.

- Eric (10/5): - Thank you to the inn keeper Connie and her family for a wonderful taste of New England hospitality. Hopefully I'll get to come back and visit again The inn is clean and well taken care of even though the house was built in 1848. Breakfast chats with other guests and the inn keeper was a highlight of the stay. Would highly recommend!

She gave us a choice on what we wanted for breakfast and it was delicious. We felt like we had gone back in time and could see that it was well maintained. It's just 2 blocks to LL Bean, so we could walk to it and many other stores and restaurants. Great stay!

- Verified traveler (8/5): Candlebay Inn - Room was nice and clean. Breakfast was good. The only downside was the bathroom shower was extremely small. A joke was even made about not dropping the soap. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Nice stay.

- Celeste (10/5): - This is an old house converted to a B&B type Inn. It is quaint and charming - filled with east coast decor. The rooms are very comfortable, albeit small. The beds were comfy and the the space was very clean. We stayed 2 nights. Breakfast was great and served at communal tables in the dinner room. If you have mobility or accessibility needs, I recommend you share before booking. Connie, the Innkeeper is warm, inviting and very accommodating. The location is great - very walkable to the village for shopping and restos. We would not hesitate to book again.
