Guest Reviews
- sally (6/5): - The hotel was very clean
The rooms have very
- Kevin (6/5): - The host insisted on no food in the rooms. This should have been stated in the policies on the website. Imagine being so tired after your arrival and all you want to do is just relax and you can't eat? That was my main concern.
- Janet (10/5): Central Fort de France location - If you want to be in the heart of Fort de France, this is the place to stay. Basic room, more economical than other hotels around. The hotel manager will help you with whatever needs you have. Walking distance from ferry, buses, and everything in center city.
- Jatna (4/5): - The staff at the lobby wasnt friendly and the hotel not that comfortable
- Lisa (2/5): - Bayfront is convenient in terms of location to the terminal where we had to leave. Overall the property needs a total overhaul, ACs not working, no elevator to get to the top levels.
Would not recommend
- Quintin (10/5): - The manager was very accommodating and helpful. The surrounding area was lively and vibrant. I had to book a stay last minute and it turned out to be an amazing time!
- Giselle (8/5): - Property is close to the waterfront with lots of shops and restaurants in the area. There were no wash towels nor hand towels in the bathroom, and there was no room service.
- Rennie (8/5): - The location was perfect. It was a 10 minute walk to the ferry terminal. The owener did not want food or drinks in the hotel though.
WIFI non-fonctionnel. Avons réservé une chambre à l’hôtel d’à côté. À éviter
- Brent M (4/5): - No one really there other than to buzz you in and out. I couldnt find anyone yo give me wifi and no breakfast or bar open
- Nashika (8/5): - The owner of the place let me and my husband stay longer for a couple of hours for free until the ferry time. This was so nice and kind of him🙏
- Han (8/5): - A Basic hotel room, nothing fancy. Excellent location in central, close to the local beach and both cruise ship ports and walkable anywhere in the city. Perfect stay for one night before our cruise. The owner of the hotel is very nice and helpful.
- judy (8/5): - I hv walking disabilty. Hv informed hotel thru Expedia re my situation. Serge did not receive this vital info about me. I hv to mount over l00 stairs on a spiral staircase to reach my room.
Host - Serge made up for his attentiveness n care. Tks serge
- TARRISA (10/5): - Great place
Der kostenlose Flughafenbus (linie A) hält 4 Gehminuten entfernt. Der Strand ist 3 min entfernt!
- Tonisha (6/5): - The place is ok for one night.
- EDWIN (10/5): - The customer service representative was friendly and very helpful. He went beyond the call of duty to accommodate us.
- Peggy (4/5): - Although the sink was dirty with black hairs and garbage, which never really got cleaned well after we brought it to their attention, and we found garbage under the bed, the location is great and close to the ferry.
- Louise (2/5): - Room was shocking, no bathroom door, dirty, lacked basic maintenance, would not recommend
- adriana (2/5): - Terrible. Pas digne d'Expedia.
À éviter!!!!
Très sale. .
Toilette sale, douche sale.
table de nuit.
Chambre sale
- Timothy (8/5): - When I had a problem connecting to the Wi-Fi, Serge, the boss at the Bayfront & his friend spent almost 2 hours with me trying to solve it! They DID solve it, so a BIG pat on the back to them for their time, effort & patience!
- marilyn (6/5): - Very central, linen clean, air conditioning
- Joseph (8/5): - Not to bad
- Thorsten (2/5): - Das Ist kein Hotel!
- Terryl (2/5): - The rooms looked nothing like the pictures on the site and the gentleman who we met who i believe may be the owner was not friendly or welcoming at all ( felt that we were a bother to him to be honest). I will never stay there again and will definitely not recommend it to anyone. the rooms are extremely dated. the only positive was the location being close to where i needed to be however there are several other options in the area so will try one of these next time around. Not worth anywhere near the price we paid.
Cheveux et autre parterre....
- Amy (8/5): - The toilet was dirty...
- Ingrid (6/5): - Staff friendly and helpful
- Weidong (10/5): - Good
- Trail16665627688 (2/5): DO NOT BOOK THIS DUMP!!! - A group of 4 of us decided to take a relaxing trip on August 24 2024 in martinique just for a short period of time. After a long time of browsing the internet we came across the bayfront hotel. We decided to book it. Getting to the place was great. Great location. But the service was horrible NO ROOM SERVICE FOR 3 DAYS. The hotel owner wasn't a friendly person. No amenities in room. Small Stip staircase. The owner locks the front door the minute you step out. Absolutely no front desk no one to welcome in. The own asks us to put off lights and AC when we leave the room. We only got 1 toilet paper roll. 1 mat and 4 towels 1 for each of us. The sink had a leak which he never fix after we reported it. The smell of this place was horrible. Dusty environment. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN.
THIS SHOULD BE CALLED A HOTEL.
I will never be back at this SLAM!!!!!!!
- Magnus (4/5): - Excellent location next to main park and waterfront! Low price. Room was clean to begin with but no daily cleaning was done afterwards. No elevator. Winding staircase was poorly lit. Wi-Fi was terrible.
Numerosi i servizi in zona (negozi, alimentari, bar, ristoranti, farmacia, ecc.).
- diane (2/5): FULL REFUND NEEDED - This was false advertising.
The hotel was nothing as said.
I got no breakfast as promised.
I could not eat in the room. The place was filled with baby roaches. The AC barely worked well.
The owner was nice and the room was right in the center of town.
I want a full refund. the place was worst than expected.
A fuir!!!
- Steven R (6/5): - The hotel is very basic but it was in a convienent location, it’s a place to spend the night… period.
- Kevin (4/5): - Curved stairs unsafe with luggage as no elevator and no assistance from staff.
- Sandra (10/5): Great Vacation Stay - The location is perfect the room is spacious and clean and comfortable. Serge is a great host and my husband who comes from Dominica says Serge is the best! he is goin back soon and i look forward to returning!
- Karnik (6/5): - Very ideal location on the BayFront, close to restaurants, shopping centres, tourist sites and the park, the ferry terminals and the tram.
With regards to the actual property, the room was not cleaned properly and not adequately stocked eith toiletries. There isn't a refrigerator or hot cup in the room either. Also, there isn't a lift and the rooms start from the 2nd floor, therefore you will have to climb a minimum of 3 sets of stairs to get to your room.. with your luggage.
- Enan (8/5): - It was great but I think we could have done with a kettle in the room. Apart from that everything was fine
- michael (8/5): Vaccance - Very warm and friendly.
- Maura (2/5): - Only the location
- anthony (2/5): - This place is in horrific condition. It was like staying in abandoned building. I checked out after one night with no refund. There are sevetal very good altetnstives nearby. Dont ruin a visit to FDF by stsying here
- Anthony (6/5): Clean but noisy location & difficult to find. - Room and bed were satisfactory.
Bathroom was sort off ok but the whole toilet unit moved when sat on!
Location was not idea as its on the corner of two very city roads; traffic lasted through until midnight and the city refuge collectors were operational at 05.00hrs. So to sum up, it was noisy with traffic and people.
Also, the hotel is very difficult to find - the only sign we saw was on the entrance door saying Bayfront hotel on a small sign 300mm x 200mm. No signs at all on the hotel frontage which started first floor up to 4th floor!
We actually drove passed the entrance door about 4 times before I pulled in to double check on the hotels address on my iPhone!
- Maciej (8/5): Fantastic location and price in Fort de France - The enormous advantage that this small hotel has is it's fantastic location. The host is delightful, helpful and informative. It is a five minute walk to the local tourism information office and there is a great park just over the road is the La Savane park. A 10 second walk and you are on the waterfront with access to the main bus lines and the ferries. A less than 10 minute walk toward the Fort and on a hot sunny day you may get the chance to photograph an Iguana. Just around the corner is the local tourist information office. Don't expect great in-room facilities but this is Martinique so no need to stay in your room - get out and enjoy the island. The hotel has a great veranda overlooking the park and is a prime location during Carnival time. The stairs are great for your legs and, as the rooms are air-conditioned, you can get a great nights sleep. You would be hard pushed to find a better rate and location in Fort de France.
- Sam (4/5): - The location is the only good thing about this hotel.
- Angie (6/5): - Good location. ac not cooling properly. Check-in at 3pm after 11am arrival onerous.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I liked that I could leave my baggage till ready for collection.
Delays in releasing the entrance door.No breakfast offered.
It was very noisy from the Savannah park.
I liked the proximity to shops and taxis.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a good stay. The owner was very helpful.
Will return soon
Denis Rosembert
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Too noisy . Check in and check out times not agreeable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): It has its charm - This was a hotel with more of a beach B&B feel. The owner/manager was incredibly helpful and took great care to look after us during our stay. The actual hotel is dated but clean and the location is unrivaled. We were able to walk to the ferry to catch boats and tours every day. It’s one of the few areas you don’t need a car but we were able to rent a car to visit Le Francoise.
- Robert (10/5): - This stay was truly a step back in time. The hotel is an old building with no elavator . The Gentalman that greeted us couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful.... a true Gentalman. The hotel offers charm and a very central location to the cultural center of Martinique... Had a very nice stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good service but hotel needs refurbishment.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Quiet hotel, great location, friendly owner.
You need to buzz to be let in and out the hotel, and if there is no one around this can be frustrating. Also beware, owner told be if you reserve but don't pay in advance, he may give your room away!
- MajaSpillingTheBeans (2/5): Terrible hotel, do NOT book here!! - This is one of the WORST hotel experiences I have ever had in over 30 years of globetrotting around the world. Thw owner and/or other staff simply NEVER showed up! The hotel was open directly from the street so anyone could walk RIGHT IN and walk all the way up and down through thw hotel with ZERO security for guests. I spent over TWO full hours trying to locate ANY staff, but only interacted with two other guests who said they had not seen any staff during their stay except for their luck to be able to check in and receive a key. I came back for TWO FULL HOURS in the afternoon from 3 to 5pm in the official checkin time and again NO ONE EVER turned up. I was not able to check in and had to find another hotel which was not only much more expensive given the late last minute search BUT also caused me to waste more half of the day that I therefore was not able to enjoy in the city. This "hotel" should NOT be able to qualify for being listed at ANY booking site.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Quick access to town. The cleanliness of thw place was terrible. Romms are moldy, no rages, iron and board available.
- 704franklynb (2/5): Mr Franklyn and Oscar Bruno - The owner was very rude and unprofessional. He started out good buy coming to get our luggage at the port. But after we were settled in it went down hill.On our last day he really did not give a damn about us.Speaking to us like he was our slave master. To the point that I and others wanted to knock his teeth out. Oh and 1 card key can open all the room doors in the hotel.I wish I could rate there with 1/2 a star. When we bath water was all over the place.
- leathonk (2/5): Awful Experience!!! Never Again - I would NEVER, EVER book this hotel again! In all my many travels and interactions with hotels, this is the WORST I have ever experienced. After booking our room well in advance and with confirmations in hand, the Manager refused to give my wife and I and my 2 friends the two rooms we had booked for the Martinique Carnival earlier this year. The Manager was rude and hostile and insisted we should blame Expedia and Hotels.Com for the lack of any rooms. The Manager was not even willing to pick up the phone and try to help us get accommodation elsewhere. We were simply told there were no rooms and that we had to go somewhere else! This was the most unprofessional behaviour I have ever seen for someone in the hospitality business.
Fortunately, a very lovely, clean and friendly hotel next door called Fort Savanne came to our rescue and offered us 2 beautiful rooms for our 4-night stay. Thank you Fort Savanne! Your awful neighbours have a lot to learn from you.
- 61prabhakark (2/5): visit with your own risk - if you plan to stay in this hotel please make sure you have a backup plan at anytime hotel refused to give room.
book this hotel through booking.com with confirming booking. when reach hotel no one at reception. waiting almost a hours, the hotel owner comes to me and informed that he cannot provide me an accommodation given the reason that hotel is fully booked and they do not give a guarantee for a room. even after showing a confirm booking with advance payment, they say I have to call booking.com as they confirm booking not he, so its responsible for booking.com to provide accommodation
I face so many problems and waste my time to looking room in Martinique which is a new place for me.
the hotel owner is very rude and doesn't care about guest even not assist to arrange some other room in the nearby hotel.
Strongly not recomandate to stay
- kobihope10 (8/5): Affordable & Descent - Prices are great, especially for the location. This is more for the explorer not for the average high-class luxurious guest. If you are looking for that this place is not for you . If you are looking for however for a place to rest ya head, with hot water and a view, close to everything. This one for u man.
- Amieblossom (6/5): Vacation - Great location for price. We were in the heart of all the action during the xmas season. Checking is too late in my opinion it was at 3pm and we had to an entier day because we arrived early. The hotel isn't fully functional because we had to go out for food all the time.
- GoldenMattarello (2/5): Stay Away... - I reserved through booking.com a quadruple room. Selected the hotel for its location (had business meetings downtown FdF) and the parking.
I was welcomed by a very unpleasant manager: no welcome, no greetings, but a simple request "show me the reservation and the money". It was too late and I was too tired (transatlantic flight + horrible experience at Hertz Airport pickup) to leave and look for another hotel, so I decided to stay.
The same unpleasant manager even tried to raise the price (by 20% compared to what was the online booking).
No parking lot, but regular fee-based parking on the street.
The quadruple room ended up being a regular double room with an extra bed.
Checked out first thing in the morning. Terrible experience - never again.
Good luck to those who end-up here.
- Debut6 (8/5): Basic , clean, well located - 2 nights here.
Hotel nothing to look at just a functional building, with a small entrance
by a bar area on street front. Up one flight of steps to reception/breakfast room.
Bedroom basic, good size, functional and clean, no frills and good value so what more do you need for a short stay. Good a/c. (could take old TV off wall and just a bit of tarting up to make more inviting. Clean sheets no pillow protectors and old pillows (my bug bear)
Vert hot water for shower fabulous
Location great, right near the ferry port for Island ferries, near to beach ferry port and the cruise terminal. Buses run to various places including the gardens (2.5 euros return for 2 people!!) Taxis wanted 100 euros!! Then you have the entrance fee to the gardens. Only issue is the timetable or lack of one. We had an hour wait after the allotted time to bring us back from Balate gardens to Fort de France!!
Breakfast was ok but a little more on offer rather than a baguette , 1 marmalade and 1 butter.
Manger/owner a bit surly but helpful. spoke English which is helpful with our appalling french!!
Only drawback is the stairs are steep, narrow and shallow, beware as it is difficult with cases , especially coming down
- lloydandjoy (8/5): Very helpful - This is a no frills hotel with lots of stairs - be prepared! It is well situated and all the linen is very fresh. The manager /(owner ?) is very helpful. We asked him to fix a taxi to the airport for us at 5.00am. When it did not arrive he was watching on cctv and got up to drive us there himself. What more can you ask?
- Mike (6/5): 5 night stay - Hotel is basic, breakfast expensive for only bread and coffee, no noon or evening dining facilities, had to eat at local restaurants.
But handy for tourist area and shops
- cn14 (4/5): Seedy hotel with a view -
Martinique is a peculiar place, especially during Christmas and New Year, all hotel rooms on the island are fully booked. Not only so, even any edible restaurant that's are still open are fully booked. Due to some unforseen reason, we were out of hotel room for one night, so we found this Beachfront hotel as a last resort.
The hotel entrance is extremely discreet, if you don't look hard for the small print on the door, you certainly will miss it. Then the door is locked and you have to ring the bell so that someone can open it. Once in, you have to drag your bags upstairs to the reception. But the reception is mostly unmanned. We finally got in to our room, yet another floor up. And what a room! I suddenly remembered my old days in Tel Aviv, arriving in town on Sabbath, everything closed, I found a room in a seedy hotel in the red light district. That feel was so unique. And here all of a sudden, the same feeling. Room is small, toilet darkly lit, it might be tidy, but just with such an untidy feel. The room is barren, but the view from the window towards the bay is not bad.
The building was old, hardly any sound isolation. So I ended lying on the bed hearing other people making love whole time, wondering what kind of hotel it really is.
Luckily I found another hotel the day after and one night is enough.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was an okay experience. The trip was great. Location was perfect .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hotel, excellent prices, and the staff is perfectly accommodating and nice.
- gchip (6/5): Bayfront Hotel for Carnivale - I agree with most of the reviews here You can't beat the Bayfront for Location. Rooms were clean, accessible WiFi, and good security. This is a great deal for the price. 5 min from the beach ferry and 10 from the inter-island ferry.
As we were there to celebrate Carnivale, the street noise was not a bother for us. Other things to consider...This is not Handicap accessible. Ground floor is the reception desk, and there is a bar on the next floor. There are three stories of rooms above, so if stairs are an issue, you may wish to ask for a lower floor room.
The owner was very nice, very attentive, and he is bilingual in English, which is a help for first time visitors, although he borders on intrusive. I am questionable on how to rate service, because he was always there and helpful, but a bit in our business much of the time.
You have to buzz in and out, but he was always there to do so. A tiny annoyance, but I felt secure, and given the number of people out in the streets, I don't blame him.
No food allowed in the rooms. I was questioning this a bit, after we came home with a pizza from next door, but the owner just asks that it be consumed at the restaurant, so as not to attract bugs (On our way home from a local bar, we saw the size of the cockroaches in Martinique....Good call)
Overall, we had a good experience. The bar on the second floor has a large balcony, where we watched much of the parades. It overlooks the park, and is great for people watching, while sipping a beer.
- EmT0m (4/5): Good for short stay - I had to stay in the hotel for 2 days because my Airbnb host cheated on me and I needed something urgently. Although there was an airco in the room, filter was cleaned long before, so it was better not to use it. The room and the bathroom were clear, even though the whole building needs a renovation. Price was quite expensive, not a good quality/cost ratio.
- Michelle (8/5): great location on La Savane - Great location for an evening arrival at FDF. Hotel wasn't the cleanest place I've stayed, but the ac worked, bed was fine, and the location couldn't be better for exploring the town. Hotel also does 24 hour car rentals.
- Nathan (10/5): Nice hotel, great location. - Great location walking distance to the fort and many great restaurants. The staff was incredibly accommodating, hadn't received our reservation from expedia yet but had no problem giving us a room anyway. They also got a cheap and prompt taxi to take us to the airport very early in the morning.
- john19502013 (8/5): Perfect Location - Although there are a lot of stirs to go up and down the hotel is just right for travelers. The rooms are plain however they have exactly what you need and no more. They have air conditioning also. If someone wants a best class hotel you will pay the price and in Fort de France you will not be anywhere need center town. It is true the light fare for breakfast is 5 euros however if you want a heavy breakfast you are surrounded by other restaurants. This hotel was perfect for us however we are not expecting first class either.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No elevator -- 3 or 4 floor walk up. Pricey for the general appearance and condition of the property.
- deer384 (8/5): Not fancy, but good location and clean - We are two native English speakers traveling from the US to Martinique for a long weekend. We don't speak french so the language barrier was a bit challenging but we managed and still had a great time. The Bayfront hotel is centrally located with a view of the bay/port. We didn't rent a car and taxis are a bit expensive but we chose the taxi route. Spent some nights walking along the bay looking at the boats and enjoying the breeze.
On Friday / Saturday nights the streets outside the hotel are very active with live music, food vendors and people out and about. It's a great location if you want to be in the "city" part of Martinique rather than the beach. We wanted a mix of both so we took a tour to the beaches area and stayed in the city area.
Right across the street from the hotel there are a few food stands (one takes US dollars) and the other nearby restaurants speak some English. I recommend having a translator app or dictionary that you can access without wifi/cell reception so you can communicate a bit more if you don't speak French.
There's also a tour and information booth that is closed on Sunday and Monday. Many things are closed Sunday daytime and Monday.
DETAILS:
Small... In the US we might classify this more as a motel than hotel in terms of room size. Perfectly fine for two people.
Clean
Few mosquitos but we wore repellent and kept the windows closed
AC works well
You'll need an outlet converter and adapter if you don't have European appliances (including cell chargers)
So. Many. Stairs. Not recommended if you have a disability or trouble with stairs.
Turn down service came everyday and fresh towels
Tile floors
Wifi was fast and reliable every day
Hotel had a bar but we didn't try the food
Older hotel and not modern. Some repairs to be made but nothing that made the stay uncomfortable.
Service:
WONDERFUL. The owner / manager is very knowledgeable and friendly. Called us a very early morning cab when we needed to leave and answered all of our questions.
Walking distance to...
A ferry that takes you across the bay to nicer beaches
A huge market with plenty of souvenir shops, local rum vendors and food
Tour services
A money exchange bank
Would stay here again unless we wanted just a beach experience
- Patrick (2/5): Poor Expetience - I had a bad experience with Bayfront Hotel. Rather than own up to thier failings they have made inaccurate and untruthful reponses about myself and family.
We never said we had the same bad experience in Dominica. We didn't even stay at a hotel in Dominica.
My Children were not too noisy. We heard other guests making loud door close noises late thru the night hotel also falsified concerning breakfast. I said that I thought breakfast was included as I often use hotels.com and sometimes include breakfast in my bookings.
I have noticed that the hotel has not commented on broken shower rail, smell of cigarette smoke, inadequate taxi booking, their lying about checkout time and noise by other guests at odd times of the night. I was also asked not to eat in the hotel room because it would bring cockroaches implying that they have a control problem with cockroaches. Hotel manager needs to improve their standards and service and stop blaming others. Hotel star recommendation does not suit Bayfront hotel and should be lowered. Family stayed at Simon Hotel two weeks before in Martinique and had an absolute wonderful time. Simon Hotel was excellent and was of superb quality. I have also booked a hundred and more hotels over the last five years so I am well qualified to make assessments and comparisons among hotels. Bayfront Hotel provided a poor experience. Please relay to Bayfront Hotel.
Please ask Bayfront not to respond to me but to please sort their problems out
- Sula44 (6/5): Central hotel - We found this hotel through the Tourist Information Office at Fort de France airport having found that the Airport Hotel hadn't got a booking for us, despite us having confirmation of our booking!!!
We arrived at about 9.00pm. Our room at the Bayfront seemed a little cramp because three of us were sharing the room, one of us in a sort of camp bed. The furniture was beautiful dark wood 'ethnic' furniture.
Our room was a little noisy because it was on the main road, but the hotel was very conveniently situated for the marina.
Breakfast was extra and consisted of fruit juice, coffee, a baguette and jam, not very interesting but adequate.
Certainly not a luxury or boutique hotel but ok for a one night stay near the marina before embarking on our tall ship.
- William (8/5): Nice place by the park/sea and near the ferry! - A clean and nice place.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Clean, well located, exactly what we expected for that category. And Serge the owner is a extra nice person!
- Mag (10/5): Incredibly friendly welcome, clean hotel - A 7-minute walk from the ports (cruise dock & ferry terminal), Bayfront Hotel has a homey feel and overlooks the bay from the edge of old city Fort-de-France. Super-kind, respectful staff, clean and tidy rooms with simple furnishings. Note that there is no lift / elevator.
I'd recommend it for anyone looking to stay in this part of the city.
