Guest Reviews
- Neil (10/5): Great value - A well run hostel with all that you need for a comfortable stop over.
Friendly and welcoming staff.
Well stocked kitchen with everything you need to prepare your food. Fans are available for those warmer days and nights.
- Jayadev (8/5): - Its a lovely spot at the crossroad leading to the mighty Algonquin Park! This region is sacred, and pristine & special to its indigenous habitants,
- Cassandra (10/5): - A fun hostel with lots of character! Staff was friendly and helpful, and the property had lots of charm. Bear in mind, it is a hostel, not a hotel; if you aren't used to staying in a hostel, this is not the place for you. Local breakfast places are incredible. We would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Very dirty and very smelly. There were used q-tips on the floor and the place smelled like fecal matter.
- Robert (10/5): The Purple Palace is a gem. Bring friends. - Great spot. Great cool hostel experience. Great service , super clean. An excellent base for exploring Algonquin park solo or with friends. The video is chill with a bit of rock n roll. Roland will treat you right.
Great attention to detail in following the rules and setting up out side. Civilized beer and local tips abound. I will be back.
- Richard. (8/5): - We enjoyed watching the sunset from the common room on the third floor. A good place for an overnight especially when cold and rain did not make camping attractive.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I would have liked the option of a tv but I can see why no tvs
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very closed to Algonquin Park, but there is literally no sound blocking system in place . We can hear everything, from next door's family conversation to front desk's check in, to everybody walking to the bathroom at dawn, to people walking and running at the hall and upstairs.
Bring ear plugs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Love the antique furniture! Bed was wide and comfortable!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The atmosphere is awesome. This has the best vibes of any hostel I've ver been in. The staff and the guests were very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely come again.
- Ap (6/5): - I would have given a better review if I were provided with towels. There were no towels provided! Overall conditions of the Hotel is fairly good. I think with this price, the Hotel offers decent facilities.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Our stay in the Arlington was perfect for our needs
- FRANK (10/5): - The people are amazingly friendly . The best tlstuff for your money
- Kyle (10/5): - There aren’t many hostels in this part of the world and this one does it really well. People and service are very nice. My stay was on a Friday and it was open mic night at the bar. The small crowd was super friendly and welcoming. Really enjoyed my stay!
- Denise (8/5): Algonquin road trip - Good, inexpensive place to stay. Has lots of character...shared bathrooms...very clean...lots of stairs so not good for people with mobility issues...close to Algonquin Park
- Yuan (8/5): good to limited budget stay and cook by youself - owner is nice, room is clear and free wifi and parking all good. only shower water flow is too small and water temperature is not stable. may be another bath room is better I did not try. no restaurant around.
- Mark (6/5): it is Ok for the price . - the staff could not find my reservation even I had confirmation from Expedia.com
- Michael (10/5): a nice experience all and all - A good location to explore Algonquin park, the staff is really friendly, basic but neat, comfortable and clean.
Large rooms.
- Andy (4/5): Not too pricey if you can stand the smell - Only saw the hotel staff once at checkin. It was quiet. However the smell was a bit much, it make you feel the hotel is not clean. The smell is probably due to poor ventilation, and the age of the building. The bathrrom garbage was filled to the top and the bag was not changed. The overall feel was a bit awkward.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good way-point to/from Algonquin Provincial Park - Small friendly, hostel environment with a nice communal kitchen (fridge, oven, toaster and prep sink) and separate common room where there are lots of VHS videos to play on the TV as well as some board games.
There is a small general store/gas station across the road at which one can get basic supplies but the closest town is Bancroft, approximately 12 miles away.
There is a pub on the main floor and the hostel is on the second and third floors. If the pub is hopping (think weekends), you'll enjoy the music no matter where you are in the building. :-)
The communal shower needs a bit of work and should be improved as the property goes forward.
While these are not luxurious accommodations, the property is a welcome way-point coming from (or going to) nearby Algonquin Park. Other properties in the general area (i.e., Bancroft of Haliburton) are often at least double (or triple) the price...but then you get the on-suite facilities, in-room TV and so on.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - hot weather no air condishioning in the hotel , too must stairs for older people
