- Maged (10/5): - Very natural experience

- Michael (10/5): Excellent glamping operation. A great outdoor experience and exceptional food. Thank you everyone! - Excellent glamping operation. A great outdoor experience and exceptional food.
- Tracy (10/5): Awesome - Such a unique experience Nothing. Except longer drive to start of safari
- Roxanne (6/5): - Good options for meals Long wait times for meals, not much to do on site, a fair distance to and from the park
- André (9/5): -

- alexandra (8/5): A true safari and outdoor experience.Saw lots of animals and learnt lots from the amazing staff! Also really enjoyed the - - Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. We felt like we had a true safari experience and they did all they could to make our experience amazing.
- Food was great , breakfast, lunch and dinner! Amazing chef and great service both days when eating
- safaris were amazing and the naturalists and driver ensured we saw lots of animals and also learnt lots! - a little more facilities around camp when not on safaris (but we may been In low season)
- Bugs in tents but we were warned and suppose this is part of the outdoors and glamping experience

- Michael (7/5): Ideal if you desperately want to sleep under canvas - Nicely appointed & large tent with small bathroom behind the bed. Outdoor eating around a campfire. Excellent safari guide Prince Solomons for our safari Dinner quality wasn’t great versus expectation, quite basic & rushed. Drinks charged extra. Whilst you’re close to the park, you still have to drive 25 minutes to the park entrance which kind of negates the benefit of being close to the park border. Safari is super busy, perhaps 35 jeeps around 4 elephants, saw a few crocs and water buffalo. Having Prince Solomons was a god send as his expertise in birds meant he spotted many species for us which was lovely.
On the safari day our only opportunity for a hot drink was at 5:45am, we were provided a packed picnic breakfast which was accompanied by water, when we returned around 10am nothing extra nor hot drinks available. Tent was hot and although 2 powerful fans were provided, sleep quality wasn’t great. With hindsight staying in a proper hotel closer to the park entrance would have been better as the safari experience is identical, just another jeep in a crowded park

- Deniz (5/5): Nice location, friendly staff, old and worn-out tents.. - The location was good, in the middle of jungle but not far away from main road..The staff were very helpful and kind..Specially our Safari guide Solomun, as a naturalist he gave us amazing information about the nature, wildlife and animals.. Our tent was very old, not seemed clean, the shower was very primitive..I stayed at glamping tents before but this wasn’t pleasing at all..
- Anna (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Putting the glamour back into glamping with a capital G! - Superb glamping tent set up. Very luxurious and comfortable. It was huge! With two separate bedrooms and a little seating area in the front, very well furnished and exceptionally clean. Staff were incredible and very helpful, right from the moment we arrived they couldn’t do enough to help us and were extremely polite and respectful. The meals were exceptional and seemed to be conjured up from nowhere! They were served under the stars for dinner around a beautiful fire, which was so special. Then there was the safari itself, it was so magical seeing herds of elephants and their babies. Our guide and driver were so motivated to ensure we had an excellent experience and stopped at nothing to ensure this happened. Nothing, it was all incredible!
- Susan (10/5): If you want to go on Safari - this is the one! - This is a glamping tent - and what a tent! It even has a picture of an elephant on the canvas in the lounge. The tent is the scrubland, well away from other tents - all I could hear were the cicadas and wildlife. Fabulous. The staff even brought me a five course meal - all served on a white table cloth, adjacent to a camp fire, with Price Solomon for company - what he didn't know about wildlife isn't worth knowing. Only staying there one night - two would have been better
- virginie (8/5): - Assez fun en famille ! Tente familiale bien fichue.
- Heylen (9/5): Echt glamping - Glamping experience was heel leuk.
- Shannon (10/5): - staff bent over backwards for us made sure we were constantly happy! food was amazing, over all amazing vibes
- Anastacia (10/5): - This ecolodge was enjoyable for my children, husband and myself. The tents were roomy and had flushing toilets and warm showers. The dinners were elegant on white tablecloth under the stars. The safari guide and driver did an excellent job pointing out elephant herds, birds and crocodiles at this park. I recommend this lodge.
- Lewis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philippa (6/5): Hreat safari but too expensive for what it is - The safari was excellent and we enjoyed breakfast and the animals and the elephants and birds, this was a great experience. Safari starts at 5.15am
The food was ok not much choice.. drinks were extra.. the tents are not a close drink to the park, over 30mins and long way from car park, the whole event lacked any atmosphere This is a very expensive stay for Sri Lanka more than our stay at Kandalama, it really was not worth the price. No info before on timings or waht happened when. The campfire was away from food area, the tents were quite damp and whole area so very very dark!, my advice book a hotel near park and safari from there , the tents are quite remote and very dark to get around so not ideal...
- Ben (10/5): The perfect choice for a safari in Udawalawe - We booked the morning safari with half board package. Staying here was a great experience, and represented good value for money. The naturalist who joined us on our safari was truly fantastic, and added to our experience. The tent we had was really clean and big enough for a family of 4. Staff and food were great. Just note that the drive to safari is around 30 minutes in the jeep, but that wasn’t an issue at all as it all added to the experience.
- Catherine (9/5): Proper adventure for one night after safari, and before the dawn safari - Real adventure - great supper around the campfire, a little further then I had hoped from the National Park - charming ranger who took us on a night walk
- Jonathan (10/5): Amazing wildlife experience. - Wonderful staff. Excellent setting. Fantastic game drives by Mr Solomons.
Food served around a fire. Excellent quality of local foods and great variety. We had a fantastic time. Nothing
- Lara (9/5): Great Experience - Really cool experience, glamping in the jungle. The rooms are pretty above standard, considering it's just a tent. Great setting, fabulous service, and guide. Dinner bbq is a must, around the night camp fire, with all the shining bright stars above.
Value for money, if you want to go Safari.
- Martin (5/5): Passable - The camp is not near the park entrance takes 30mins. Camp not good in wet weather
- Jessica (7/5): Good - Quiet place and and a nice Experience I think is a bit too expensive for what we get and the experience
Safari was very good but accommodation a bit too expensive for what it is .
- Victoria (9/5): Lovely experience with the family - Remote and peaceful very beautiful setting a great experience Nothing
- Teresia (8/5): Very nice and knowledgeable staff! Safari was great and tent experience very exciting! - Very nice people and friendly staff. Very exciting sleeping in a tent with all animals. Tent extremely humid due to rain and sheets were wet when going to bed.
- Kelly (4/5): - I researched Mahoora eco camps before purchasing on wotif. Neither site accurately reflects the accomodation or facilities. It was the same campsite as Big game park, but twice the price. Wotif says it’s all inclusive, as does the Mahoora website, but we had to pay additional costs once there. It is also quite a distance from the Udawalawe park entrance.
- Mujinda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sally (7/5): Nice stay and excellent Safari, despite not having the expert naturalist with us as expected. Good food, nice tents but - The tents were well equipped and attractive. The area for dinner was really nice and the organisation of the afternoon walk and early morning safari was excellent The tent was far too hot at night so we had to keep the fan on all night and it was very noisy.
It was quite far from the entrance to the park (20 mins ish). We were meant to have a naturalist join us for the safari in our jeep, but he did not turn up and no explanation was given.
- Justin (10/5): "A perfect blend of adventure and serenity, made unforgettable by the incredible wildlife and Heshan - Heshan, our safari tour guide at Mahoora in Udawalawe, was nothing short of exceptional. His profound knowledge of the wildlife was immediately apparent, as he effortlessly identified and provided fascinating details about every species we encountered. From the majestic elephants to the most elusive birds, Heshan's passion for nature and conservation truly enriched our experience.
His naturist abilities were impressive – he had an intuitive understanding of the ecosystem and knew exactly where to find the animals while respecting their natural habitat. His sharp eyes and deep understanding of the environment ensured we saw an incredible range of wildlife, often in moments that felt intimate and unhurried.
Beyond his expertise, Heshan’s affability made the entire safari even more enjoyable. He was warm, approachable, and went above and beyond to ensure everyone in our group was comfortable and engaged. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he made learning about the wildlife fun and accessible for all ages.
I highly recommend Heshan as a safari guide. If you’re lucky enough to have him leading your tour, you're guaranteed an unforgettable experience! Not applicable
- Sofia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (10/5): Great stay, great staff, the whole experience was wonderful! - The camp site is really well thought out and you feel immersed in nature but safe. Particularly like that it is an eco friendly site, you see the effort made to follow eco standards. We loved it!
- Raphael (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic staff, excellent food. I expected a nightwalk in the national park not on the property. Shouldn't advertise with this feature.
Little bit overpriced for a night in tent, even so luxurious like it is.
- Stella (10/5): - Excellent safari and accommodation. The guide was so knowledgeable and super engaging.
- Vidul (10/5): It was perfect and unexpected - It was cozy and beautiful and relaxing There wasn’t any , staff were super friendly even though for a local . The best customer service I have ever had . Even better than many 5 star hotels in Sri Lanka
- Alan (9/5): Superb - Friendly and helpful staff.
Great food and service
- Tracy (10/5): - Amazing experience, 5* glamming/ fabulous food, lovely staff
- Ciaran (9/5): A wonderful safari experience - We booked this very last minute and it was a truly wonderful place. The accommodation was great. I would recommend it. There is only one entrance into the national Park and the Safari tour leaves from the camp takes about 25 minutes to get to the entrance. Solomons is very knowledgeable. The shower head was not good. But the tent was great
- Sarah (10/5): A fantastic time in nature - My family and I had a wonderful stay - the staff are very knowledgable and accommodating. A memorable time was had - we would highly recommend a stay here. The food was exceptional!
- Ihalavithana (9/5): Superb - The place is absolutely beautiful and peaceful surrounded by nature. Staff made sure all our requirements were met.
- Anca (9/5): Very nice camp experience, large tents, good food, great safari experience - The camp is big and it was an overall great experience. Tent was large, with clean sheets and hot water. Nice design.
There are peacocks, rabits and landmonitors around, and we heard and saw many birds. No mosquitos 🤷🏼♀️.At night we used flashlights to get around.
Food was really good, dinner was soup + barbeque (pork and chicken) and for breakfast we had eggs, local food, fruits.
The camp is very close -20 min to the Park entrance
The safari was also a great experience, we had Mr Solomon with us, he shared a lot of interesting things, he gave binoculars and had a book with birds.
Staff very friendly and helpfull. They could ad some AC, it was very hot and the fans were not enough to bring confort.
Also at dinner some delicate lights above the table would be nice to help see better what we eat.
I do understand that this camp is in the jungle, that there are many birds and insects, but considering the tents have many facilities, AC would be welcomed.
- Rebekah (3/5): Disappointing - The staff were helpful. The camp was no-where near the national park. It was a 40 minute uncomfortable drive away in a safari jeep. Mahoora did not provide us with a tour guide - instead we picked up a national park guide at the entrance to the park. We did the night walk and were shown a cow, a hare and a heron. This is hugely expensive for what it is - a very hot tent in a field a long way from the park. I couldn’t identify any luxury elements to the experience.
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional - Food and staff amazing. Tent was more than we had expected. So comfortable. Safari was great saw 13 elephants. The guides knowledge was excellant
- Julia (10/5): Excellent service, staff, facilities and safaris. - The glamming tents were luxurious and well-equipped; far exceeded my expectations Not much to do if you weren’t going on a safari
- Shireen (8/5): Very good - Safari tents and evening dinner A 40mn drive from Park
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - The staff went out of their way to help accommodate us and our young family. They also organised a fantastic safari (we went both mornings) and Solomon the guide was very knowledgeable.
- Carlotta (8/5): Beautiful location, nice set up but a bit rundown. - The location (calm and quiet ) and set up of the camp was amazing even tho it could be used more. The staff is friendly and helpful.
We loved the view behind the camp when walking on the big rock! Do that when you stay there - walk around the campsite:) The camp is closely joined with big game, and it seems both of them need a bit of maintenance. It felt a bit rundown. If they renew the tents and pathways near the lake would be a big plus. It’s a pity they stand there all over grown. Place some sitting areas around the lake - it’s a beautiful view.
Food was good but not worth the price. Also we expected something more individual when they mentioned they use only products from the village.
We booked a tent at Mahoora online with a big space and a sofa. Unfortunately this was not given in ours. It looked more basic like the ones at big game.
- Tristan (9/5): Superb - This was a very interesting experience: sleeping in a comfortable tent, hearing the animals in the night (especially peacocks), nice dinner in the dark with oil lights and a fire in a common area. Our driver struggled a lot to find the place, we would recommend to request specific information for the direction if not provided.
Rather far away from the park entrance (more than 30 minutes drive).
The tents are dark and absorb the heat during the day - probably due to some constraints but still to be considered.
- Sonia (8/5): Very good -
- Clara (10/5): Would 100% recommend - The manager of the camp was extremely kind and available to chat, to show us around. The tent are perfect: very big and with all the services you might want. The food was very good. We had the best experience. Couldn’t ask for anything different!
- Pauline (4/5): You can do better - overpriced and under delivered. - Enjoyed the peace and quiet.
Loved the safari we booked with Mahoora - so many elephants birds and monkeys not forgetting the beautiful peacocks. The campsite and tents appear unloved, tired and could do with some investment to refurbish and overhawl. For example: several rips in the tent window netting, mouldy shower curtains, ripped blankets, empty shower and soap bottles. Generally looks like there is no-one caring for the site anymore which is sad.
All could be 'almost' acceptable if we werent
paying such an exorbitantly high price. Come on Mahoora - you can make it so much better.
- David (6/5): This was a pit stop for us to facilitate seeing Uda Walawe National Park. - The staff were super helpful and the set up was super. With the tents being in a super rural location, we requested the alfresco evening meal which was disappointing. Technically there were 5 courses: an amuse-bouche, carrot soup, salad comprising cucumber and apple; the main course comprised meat and 2 vegetables and the desert was ice cream. An exceedingly dull meal with modest portions. For US$20 per head management could put substantially more value into the ingredients/product and give their guests a truly memorable meal (for the right reasons).
AT US$10 per head the breakfast was equally poor value. Buy locally.
The location of this resort was not convenient for early morning access to Udal Walawe.
- Fred (9/5): Superb -
- Pablo (8/5): Very good - The staff are great The views aren't great from the camp
- Lori (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mollie (9/5): Amazing unique experience luxury camping - Great unique location which makes you feel you’re staying out in the wild in luxury. The room was much better than we expected with lots of space and hot shower. We had a great Safari with Solomon who also took us on a nature walk - very knowledgeable and make the experience great. The signage / directions from the management to the property could be improved as it took us a while to find the entrance. Dinner is outside so bugs can sometimes be a problem if you’re in an area that had / has a lot of light. Food is on the pricier side for Sri Lanka but is still very nice.
- Geetha (9/5): Superb - The set up was amazing! No privacy in toilet if tent is shared
- Gary (9/5): Superb - The tent was amazing, nicer than a lot of hotel rooms inside. Great value for money for the accommodation. Hot shower and proper flushing toilet inside the tent so you don't need to walk anywhere. Very comfortable mattress with soft clean sheets. The 5 course menu we were given in advance was completely different to what we were served and weren't given any choices (the menu has 2 or 3 options for each course). Also the food was overpriced based on what we were given.
- Peter (10/5): Great staff - great Safari trip! - The staff were all fabulous- very kind and helpful. The food was delicious and served in a great environment.
The tented accommodation met all our needs and we felt very safe despite being so close to the wildlife.
We have to recommend Mr. Solomon in particular who was an exceptional naturalist who took us on our Jeep Safari and was very knowledgeable and courteous. We were very impressed with his service and his sense of dignity with a sense of humour.
Great staff - great trip!
Thank you to everyone at Mahoora - Udawalawe! None!
- Ke (10/5): Exceptional - it was a great experience. very peaceful night bath facility is a bit simple. but deserve the price.
- K (10/5): Another wonderful camping night with Mahoora! - Another wonderful camping night with Mahoora! Tent environment, bed, meals and safari, everything was well prepared. Very friendly and helpful staff. Thanks for giving me a wonderful, unforgettable camping experience at Mahoora Udawalawa By Eco Team. Likes everything
- Rajapakse (10/5): Had a wonderful time - We stayed 01 night.. Comfortable tent and delicious food. They organized a excellent jeep safari and Udawalawe national park with an expert naturalist. Campsite staff very helpful. Thanks for the super service.
- Kamburapola (10/5): Excellent Location , Great Breakfast with more choices. Super staff , Highly recommended. - We had an amazing experience and a wonderful overnight stay here at Mahoora Udawalawa. Our tent was spacious, clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We greatly enjoyed all of our meals. The BBQ dinner was served in an amazing atmosphere with a bonfire and the personalized service in the wilderness is an experience you should get. The staff were all very warm and friendly and the service was impeccable. In particular, we wish to thank Solomon who was our host and guide on the game drives - he was very hospitable and had great knowledge of the local flora/fauna, and we really enjoyed our time with him. We loved the quiet / secluded location of the camp - you really felt like you were in the heart of nature. We went out on an afternoon game drive and an early morning game drive, which were both great experiences. A highly recommended place to experience the camping atmosphere and to stay overnight if you are visiting Udawalawa National Park.
- Muller (10/5): An exceptional stay in the wilderness - It was an exceptional experience in the wilderness.
To begin with the climate was ideal for my glamping stay. The serenity of the location along with a lake to spot wildlife in the visinity was fabulous. The large tents with clean attached bathrooms, and a living area inbuilt was a plus. Enjoyed the nature walk and the safari was exceptional with the very experienced guides. Furthermore the dinner ambience made me feel special sarounded by lanterns and a bonfire. Next time I surly visit the place with my family and highly recommend it to all. Liked everything!
- Natasha (10/5): An unforgettable camping experience! - This is an amazing experience we had during our 1-night stay. We had a very stylish glamping tent which was so comfortable and so spacious. All meals were super delicious. The staff members at the campsite were very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our time at Mahoora Udawalawe campsite & would highly recommend it.
- Japbck (10/5): It was an amazing camp and safari experience. - The food was great and their dining area is really calm and quiet. You can sit and enjoy your meal. The friendly staff always support their guests. The Mahoora tent is clean, the bed is comfortable, and the living area is big enough. Jeep safari is done by a well-trained safari driver.
- Yasantha (10/5): Unforgettable Experience! - The tents were spacious and comfortable. Ensuite bathroom was much more than just a camping toilet. The meals were excellent, especially the barbecue dinner. It was amazing to have breakfast on the rock with a view of Udawalawe National Park. The safari drivers are vigilant, and the jeeps were in excellent condition. Our naturalist, was a wonderful man who knew a lot about Sri Lanka's wildlife. He taught us a lot of things.
Overall, we had a great time at Mahoora Tented Safari Camp in Udawalawe. Thank you so much, Mahoora Udawalawe Team. Nothing to mention. They looked into every detail and every single need was taken care of. Felt like home.
- Lisa (8/5): Very good -
- Jessica (10/5): Incredible Experience! - The best experience ever! The tents are absolutely gorgeous and the detail incredible.
We had a very warm welcome from our Senior Naturalist, Prince Solomon. He greeted us with cold refreshing drinks and explained the schedule.
We very much enjoyed the safari and saw lots of different birds and wild elephants.
Once back at camp, we were met with hot drinks and sandwiches before being guided back to our tents with hot water to soak our feet waiting.
They had lit all the candles in the tent and incense and it felt so cosy and special.
We then had dinner under the stars with a bonfire with the most delicious food and unlimited beer/wine. Both lunch and dinner were 5 courses and so good! Our waiter was also very attentive, very polite and made us feel welcome.
In the morning we had another delicious meal; breakfast. Solomon also gave us the opportunity to go on a nature walk but we didn’t have time, but worth doing if you can.
All the staff were brilliant and made us feel like royalty! I would be back in a heart beat. Thank you Prince Solomon and team. We had a little bit of an issue with our toilet not flushing but the staff were very attentive and quick to rectify issue/provide solution. We had a great time regardless.
Be warned that once you arrive at the safari a “tracker” joins the jeep with you. They are paid by the government and legally have to be on the jeep. But they will try telling you that they are volunteers as they want a tip. Don’t be fooled by this. Luckily our naturalist explained the situation in advance.
- Peter (6/5): - Love the idea of staying in a jungle camp, but this is really in an area of dry bushes, a total stretch to call it jungle. Food was amazing. Camp set up was nice. But very important to note that this is actually about 40km from the entrance to the park where you do the safaris. There are options much closer. It’s 30 minutes each way to and from the park, for 2 safaris that’s 2 hours of travel. Everyone was extremely nice but really wanted tips. For this star rating and the very high cost, tipping should not only be included, but staff shouldn’t make you feel like you need to tip them to supplement what seems like underpayment by the property. Our safari guide even said he was a volunteer and worked for tips!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic stay at Mahoora! - Our stay at Mahoora was fantastic. We booked the full day all inclusive safari package, which gave us one afternoon and one morning safari at Udalawawe. Special thanks to Avinka, who looked after us and made our stay special. Avinka was also our guide during both safaris - his passion for the wildlife at Udalawawe was one of a kind and we learned a lot of different details we otherwise wouldn’t have (we realized a lot of other safaris did not even have a guide). Our driver was fantastic as well and we felt safe at all times. We also highly appreciated that our tour was a private one, making this a truly personal experience.
The food at Mahoora was very tasty and exceeded our expectations. We were greeted with a 5 course lunch, a mix of Sri Lankan fusion. Dinner could not have been more memorable - a private table in front of a bonfire, with a 6 course meal under the stars.
The tent itself was very cozy and the bed - to our surprise - quite comfortable. We would definitely recommend Mahoora for a memorable and unique experience at Udalawawe!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent campground near Uda Walale - The staff does an excellent job of making you feel taken care of. Food was delicious and generous. Everything from the pick up, welcome, meals, and national park guide were very well organized. Our naturalist was really knowledgeable during our tour. The tent itself was quite basic, but we slept comfortably and had everything we needed.
- Tabitha (10/5): Fabulous Safari Experience - We stayed here two nights recently and had a fantastic time. Our guide Udaya was very helpful and knowledgeable and we saw crocodiles, monitor lizards, elephants, deer and mongooses whilst out on safari. The food was sublime as well and the rest of the staff were very attentive. Would thoroughly recommend.
- Paul (8/5): Really good experince - Really good experience with truly helpful staff. It is however a tent camp and the food is so so. But sitting under the stars eating and a wonderful safari with great guides makes it a very good experience.
