Guest Reviews
- ltu00 (10/5): Cute hotel - Inside this hotel is very attractive and quaint as it is set beside a large fish pond. Great price for Bangkok. Pool looked lovely, although we didn’t get a chance to use it as we only stayed one night. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Can easily walk to shops and restaurants.
Rooms are spacious.
Access to the hotel is up a very narrow road and we had to walk part of the way as the taxis would go no further.
- bethany_lawrence26 (10/5): Lovely little place in Bangkok - Charlie House is a lovely little spot in Bangkok. Located in a quieter region, this hotel is peaceful with lots of greenery and a pool. The rooms were clean and well equipped, staff lovely. Super affordable too! My partner and I travelled easily from here to various parts of the city. There is also some small food markets and a 7/11 just round the corner also.
- katieebaxter (4/5): Desperately Needs Soundproofing - There is zero sound proofing. You will hear every door nearby close and everything said in the room next to you. Unless you’re a super deep sleeper, this place is not for you. There are ants in the rooms. You aren’t allowed to smoke by the pool or even outside your room, only in the one smoking area. The pool is small and freezing with only a couple of lounge chairs. The beds are hard and have only one pillow. There isn’t anywhere comfortable to sit with wooden chairs and the wooden headboard on the bed.
There are markets and a mall and a 7eleven and lots going on nearby. The property is nice and green.
- Peter (8/5): - Lovely little hotel nestled away in pincalo, quiet and peaceful hotel setting in a busy area. Sadly wasn't easy to get around but first time in Bangkok and lacked local knowledge. The staff were friendly and attentive. The room was basic, comfortable and clean. If you want to stay in pincalo I highly recommend staying at Charlie house.
- dragonflygirl (10/5): 4th time staying here! Love it - I went to Charlie House for the 4th time in my multiple trips to Thailand. This is always my go to place in Bangkok- Why? It is such a beautiful and peaceful oasis in a crazy busy city.
We stayed Nov 10- Nov 13 and Nov 17-19.
It was my boyfriends first trip to Thailand and it did not disapoint.
Here are the things I love about Charlie House
1) local residential neighborhood so you meet the actual people of Bangkok where they live and have more authentic experiences.
2) across the street from Lotus so you can pick up food easily
3)local markets nearby so easy to shop for interesting stuff or get your nails done:)
4) Great pool(in the shade and not heated so refreshing after the hot day)
5) The staff always try to accomdate you and if you ask them something I swear they never say no. I asked would it be possible to leave a bag of items we bought and don't want to take with us to Phuket and would pick up when we come back to town. Yes. We asked can we leave our bags before check in time so we can explore- yes. Can I please use the pool and bathroom even after check out time while I wait for the taxi for the airport transfer- yes. Can I order beans with toast instead of just doing the all you can eat breakfast- yes. honestly- they were always so nice- so friendly and always had time to listen.
6) they keep the grounds very clean and it feels so serene to walk the property
7) there is a little corner store just past the canal and you can get cheap drinks and ice creams
8) This time I actually met Charlie- who owns Cahrile House- I didn't know he existed and it was so cool to meet him( so friendly)
9) The sounds of the city are gone- All you hear is birds I promise- so serene!
What I don't love
1) The beds are so hard- I have accepted this as the norm in Thailand(only 1 hotel of the 3 had soft beds but Charlie House's bed feels like you are sleeping on a well used futon(think rock surface). I saw another woman to come in and complain so I would suggest they perhaps have mattress toppers purchased to help for those of us that cannot handle that level of firmness.
2) this time we were in a 2nd floor room on our 2nd stay at the hotel and I was not a fan of room 207(quite noisy- we can hear everything in the hallway) and it seemed like no sound proofing- i was quiet worried the neighbors would hear me snoring.
Honestly I promise this is not a place you can disregard with the reviews it gets. this will be a great basepoint for those who need a place to start in Thailand. You will walk down a nasty alley everyday but honestly by the end of the trip I almost missed that alley and the streetlife of the people walking buy, selling food, riding their motorcycles quickly past you, and roaming dogs. This is your chance to really share in a unique place while you are in such a beautiful city.
- Agnes (4/5): - We checked in and the room seems ok. When one of us went to use the facility, water was not going down. Shower did not have hot water in one room, we had to use the 2nd room we had. When checking out, 2 in our group was running 15 mins late and we asked if we could check out before 12:30 instead of 12 noon. We were told 'NO'. The front desk lady was pretty mean.
- Mimieux (10/5): - Friendly and caring staff, quiet and homey, walkable area with lots of shops nearby, plus Central Pin Klao mall.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Brian (10/5): Awesome - Very clean hotel, beautiful like a garden/jungle courtyard once you enter the gate
- Mimieux (8/5): - Quiet, cozy, relaxing garden environment.
Rooms are clean and decent sized. Bed is comfortable. Professional and friendly staff. Only draw back is the long walk from the hotel to the Main Street. But the hotel has a buggy service that takes you to the main road and pick you up.
- Wanderer47110548517 (10/5): An oasis in the heart of Bangkok - Very quiet secluded hotel in the heart of Bangkok. Lovely and attentive staff, clean and well equipped room, nice pool, koi pond, beautiful flowers and grounds and down an alley and right across the highway from a large department store for whatever you may need. The bed was huge and comfortable with clean linens and the AC worked perfectly. Lots of hot water. Can’t say enough about the place. We loved it.
- Jude (10/5): - Lovely hotel, great staff and facilities. Lovely hidden pool, feels so calm even though so close the the chaos of the busy street a one minute walk away. A little bit far from the centre of bangkok but taxis and grab make it accessible easily.
- Nbuskell (8/5): A calm, pretty, quiet oasis, use a grab taxi to get there, golf cart picks you up - We stayed in the Best Western Chatuchak Park the first night, then thought we would just catch the train to this hotel, do not do that, get a Grab cab, you can not walk from the train to this hotel with bags.
Once you get to this hotel it is quite charming. We were allocated a ground floor room, but I asked to go up on a higher level and they accommodated with no fuss. If you let them know you are coming they have a golf cart to pick you up and take you down the lane to the taxi on the main road, no fuss or bother.
There is a pond with fish and at night you can just here the frogs, I found it quiet and calm. We only found the pool in the morning when we were leaving. The room was large and comfortable and I thought the price was very good. We didn't have breakfast. You must get a grab taxi though as the road is very busy to walk along. We got a taxi to the golden mount.
- sexylinguine (8/5): Beautiful garden setting - This is a nice hideaway off the busy road. This area has a great mall and many great local food vendors and markets that aren’t pushy/geared toward tourists.
The hotel has lots of children and young families. We were just passing through and stayed for one night. The room is big and the bed is huge and the most comfortable we have stayed in after 4 weeks of travelling. The shower is a bit leaky and the shower head is placed quite low height. The staff are friendly and the garden is lovely and well kept.
- Emma (10/5): - Beautifully maintained gardens and swimming pool area. An oasis of tranquility with birdsong, incredible for the centre of Bangkok.
Comfortable bed, good wifi for video work calls and a very good shower.
Location is ideal for all the roadside food stands and night markets around 10-15 mins walk. Breakfast buffet is a little limited: white bread (a toaster is provided), fruit jam (conserve), choice of cereals (chocolate flakes, muesli, cornflakes), yoghurt and sachets of coffee, tea, hot chocolate.
A bit noisy in the road outside, with the occasional late-night and early morning scooters but nothing serious. We loved the environment and pool area and will definitely return here when in Bangkok.
- Ronney (10/5): - Great customer service. Property well maintained.
- Ronney (10/5): - The bed was comfortable. The property was well maintained. Great customer service.
- Helen (10/5): Cute - I loved staying here. It truly was a hideaway from Bangkok business.
- tsuyoshi (10/5): - the room was spacious and clean. I liked the garden and having breakfast outdoors.
- David (8/5): - Gute Verkehrsanbindung.
- Francis S Gutta (10/5): - Like an oasis in a concrete desert.
Close enough to Khao San Road to hop a motorbike taxi.
- travel_tom24 (8/5): Hidden gem - I recently stayed here solo for 4 nights- definitely a hidden gem in the middle of a very busy city. A short 3 minute walk from the main road takes you down a small lane to the hotel with plenty of signage advertising Charlie House.
Staff were friendly throughout my stay and always willing to help. The rooms were also very large and although dated, were incredibly clean.
Location was good around 10 minute walk from nearest metro with large Central Pinklao mall only a 5 minute walk away across the bridge. Also plenty of street food stalls close by.
The surroundings of the hotel felt very peaceful and it really did feel like a calm oasis, but it would have been nice to have a functioning bar or restaurant on site. The only option was breakfast delivered to your room. Also, despite the very reasonable price it would have been nice to have coffee/tea facilities within the room- not having a kettle was very missed and is expected from a 3* hotel. Similarly the property only had one hairdryer to share between 30 rooms which was odd.
Overall though, for the price it is very good value for money and I would recommend.
- PavineeTaruschio (10/5): Hidden gem. Don't be put off by the lane you walk down to get there. - We only stayed 1 night. Its clean & basic but a beautiful, small hidden hotel in Bangkok. The price is so reasonable aswell!
Staff were lovely & breakfast was fresh. There's a little pool incase you want to take a dip.
Loads on area to eat & shop. I will definitely return one day!
- elmo178 (10/5): Hidden gem - This hotel is a beautiful oasis in the middle of Bangkok. Rooms are spotless, comfortable, well equipped and quiet. Pool is fabulous. Little cafe on site. Hotel is just 10mins from train station. Highly recommend
- JolieYoung (10/5): Well-decorated and clean - The employees were very nice and accommodating. The room and outside was decorated nicely and it is in a quiet area. The location is great as it is close to a shopping area and overall convenient. This is our third time staying and we highly recommend it.
- Louberry_13 (10/5): Quaint hideaway - A lovely place to stay, clean and tidy. Lovely staff felt very welcomed would highly recommend. Only disadvantage was lack of chairs in the pool area and the location as no one seemed to know where it was.
Loved it though
- GuntherGratzer (10/5): - Very quiet location. Wonderful staff, very helpful.
- nicbob_2001 (8/5): Good budget hotel in Bangkok away from the centre - This is a quiet charming oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. The garden pretty and relaxing and you can hear the dawn chorus loud and clear . We booked a suite for a family of four. It was absolutely huge! There was a fridge to stock up but unfortunately no cutlery or bowls if you wanted to eat in the room. Street food is just 5 mins away. The hotel is a little bit away from it all, which suited us. We got a taxi, which is fairly cheap to get to the centre. The staff were in the main friendly, although I did get told off and shown photos of my son's nosebleed by the woman on reception, who hinted that if it happened again we would get charged. If you want a hotel away from it all for a good price then this is a good option. However, be warned to get to it you have to walk down a fairly dingey rat infested alleyway to get to it - some may be put off by this..
- Duncan (10/5): Happy Customers - We Originally took advantage of a great deal for 3 nights & liked everything about it from the staff, the cleanliness the hotel & to Top if off, the location.
Thanks & when we return to Bangkok, I know where we'll be staying👍
- Jan (6/5): - It is tranquil, an nice surroundings.
Off the beaten path, but actually close to local food stalls and markets which we liked.
We were a little bothered by the poor restaurant facilities and our room had a door to the one next door which made it very noisy as you can hear any whisper from them.
- N1597FJpaulv (10/5): Our Stay at Charlie House Pinklao, Bangkok, Thailand - When we returned back from our 3-day trip to Nong Khai, the first thing that we had problems with, was finding a taxi that could transport my wife and I to Charlie House Pinklao, as we arrived during the evening rush hour. I initially had contacted Charlie House Pinklao, speaking to the manager via email, asking if he could provide directions to me in Thai as to where Charlie House Pinklao was located and he did so, which I enlarged and had printed on two separate pieces of light cardboard and then had laminated to carry with me, to show whomever was going to transport us from wherever in Bangkok to Charlie House Pinklao. Many of the taxi drivers decided that it was in an out of the way location (which it was in a way) due to heavy traffic in the area. However, in-time, we did find a very accommodating taxi driver who elected to transport us to this hotel.
However, much to our surprise and to the taxi driver's surprise, the lane that entered off the main street that we had to travel down on, was only 1-lane wide with no turnaround at the end of the street. We were able to successful get out of the taxi and an individual with a "Golf Cart" was readily available to transport out 2-large suitcases and handcarry luggage across a small pedestrian bridge that traversed a canal. After paying the taxi driver, he then had to back his taxi down the football sized lane of approximately 300-feet.
Upon being directed into the Charlie House Pinklao Facilities Grounds, I realized that this compound was exactly what I had seen on the website that I had located on the internet and more so. We were happily greeted by the staff and provided welcome fruit drinks, paying our bill for the pre-paid bill that we agreed to pay through a booking site and then taken to our beautiful room where we were able to relax and get ready for our first night in Bangkok.
The Charlie House Pinklao Compound is perfectly laid out with a beautiful but small swimming pool, a large gazebo where one can recline on lounges to relax, read a book or possibly get a massage. There is an onsite restaurant that only serves breakfast (which we ate at the first day, but felt that the prices were higher than what we could find outside the compound. The only reason why we dined the first day, was that we had a tour to go on the following morning at 7:00am and we were pressed for time.
When you exit the compound and take the small pedestrian bridge to your right side, which becomes the beginning of the one lane alley, the first things that you'll be presented with are nice apartment complexes on both sides of the lane. There are even food stalls that operate only in the evening. At the end of the lane, where it enters into a multi-lane highway, that travels towards the Old City, their is a nice food eatery to the immediate left with friendly Thais that can cook up a real nice meal. If you walk beyond this eatery, you'll see a alley to your left with a Shabu-Shabu Eatery on your right, which we dined at twice during our 7-Day Stay in Bangkok. You get to pick whatever type of food that you want to consume and the cook will then prepare the meal and have it delivered to you in an air-conditioned or non-air-conditioned setting, if the air-conditioned room is filled to capacity. The food is excellent and I would highly recommend that you dine here at least once during your stay in Bangkok.
To the right of the lane, there is a wide sidewalk with many local eateries lined along-side. There is also a large mall on the opposite side of the street and to get to this mall, there is a 2-level stairway that you must climb with narrow stairs (constructed predominantly for Thais. Being a Senior Citizen (as is my wife) and a 100% Disabled Vietnam Era Veteran, she walked behind me and held onto my belt to ensure that I would not trip over the stairs (which did happen on one incident) as I headed up or down the flight of stairs. As the walkway enters into the Mall, you will then see yourself in a large supermarket. Take the stairs down to the next level where you'll find eateries set up early in the morning to prepare a nice hot Thai Breakfast or lunch or even dinner without so much as being overwhelmed by other tourists in the major hotspots of Bangkok.
So, to sum this all up, please take the time to check out Charlie House Pinklao (if you don't mind being away from the heavily crowded streets of Bangkok (which I used to live in between 8/73 - 8/75)) and you'll be refreshed with your decision. Please note that there are other hotels with dining facilities in the vicinity of Charlie House Pinklao and there are also beauty salons and massage parlors too.
- grandg (8/5): Quite and restful - Arrived after a long trip to charming small hotel. Picked up at airport as hotel arranged.
Great place to rest before heading off on Thailand adventure. Close to amenities and taxis and buses at the end of the laneways if you wanted to explore Bangkok. Staff helpful and hotel clean.
- Paul (8/5): Oasis and calm. - Family did not enjoy the alleyway boutsife the hotel but local amenities were very good.
- KatrinaW561 (8/5): Charming and quiet place with lush garden - We traveled as family with kids (9 and 12). The Charlie House was a nice an relaxing start after a long journey. The hotel is quiet with a green lush garden located 5 mins walk from street food etc and with easy reach of transport to inner Bangkok. The hotel was clean and the staff was really nice. The pool looks bigger on the website. We recommend this place we all very much enjoyed staying and would be happy to stay there again.
- Mahen0911 (8/5): Great hidden place to stay - Hi, Its a lovely small hotel with a great sense of taste. The folks in the reception are extremely helpful and will guide you. We stayed in April 2019 during Songran festival and had loads of fun. When you get back to the hotel its a lovely small paradise to sit in the garden or soak yourself in the small pool.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a Great location! Hidden gem! Comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Over-all it was nice inside the gated hotel.. When we got to Charlie's the cab got lost and my GPS was a bit more accurate then theirs.. However the cab driver called the hotel and they ended up sending a golf cart to our location which was about 200\300 yards away.. And the staff was really nice
- kadir (10/5): nice hotel - very kind and polite hotel stuff, i strongly suggest
- Verified traveler (6/5): NO SERVICE - SLECHTE SERVICE BIJ HET UITCHECKEN, NIET HELPEN NAAR DE GROTE WEG VOOR EEN TAXI, DE DOUCHKOP NOG STEEDS KAPOT [VORIG JAAR OOK]
Consiglio a chiunque...
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to plazas, lots of food stalls. Nice and quiet. Room very nice. We really liked having a nice size balcony and a pool. Staff very friendly. It is like an oasis in Bangkok.
Internet had to sign in all the time and sometimes didn’t work inside our room. Note: staff did offer to move us to another room, but we declined. Also, twice our room wasn’t slotted to be cleaned until 6 in the evening. Perhaps more staff?
This is my favourite place in Bangkok and I would definitely come back.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good hotel, not easy to reach it, difficult to find a car parking in that zone.
- Jo (10/5): Meticulous Cute Hotel - This hotel is just how it looks in the advertisement. Very clean, the staff—all of them were very helpful, always have a smile ready for us. Very, very good.
Ruhig. In 10min im Zentrum. - Alles perfekt
Ausser übertriebene Rauchereinschränkungen.
- Haden (8/5): 12/10 would recommend again - This place is a bit of an oasis amongst the noise. Clean tidy. Nice genuine staff. I've stayed here twice now and would reccomend it. The only downside is that it is close to but not in the middle of a very touristy neighborhood - but this is why it appeals to me!
- Michael (8/5): A Hidden Gem - A beautiful little hotel hidden away on a long back alleyway. When you walk down the the alley you might think you are going the wrong way and is not too safe, but there are many food stalls and other places along the way. Once you get to the gate and open it up, you realized you have traveled to a place well worth the walk. This hotel sits on the nicest grounds l’ve seem. Beautiful little fountains, artwork and an inviting pool. The staff are more than helpful and very kind. You can have breakfast sent to your room, or head out to a Main Street of Bangkok. I would make Charlie House a regular visit to Bangkok, just don’t ask for a rollaway bed, it’s almost as expensive as the room.
- Nath (10/5): I will come back ! - Very nice place to stay at BKK. Confortable and clean, a real paradise after visiting the center.
I love this hôtel, however my boyfrend want to use the air climatisation, that is a little bit louddly for me.
Exept that, RAS for our 4 nights.
- P (10/5): Real bangkok experience - Personal hotel in a lively neibourghoud . Stayed hete for the third time, would stay here again!
- Adam (8/5): Okay - Everything ok.
- Uli (10/5): Hidden oasis close to restaurants shopping - Will come again on my next stay in Bangkok, for sure.
- Uli (10/5): Private and charming, yet close to the action - It is always great to come back to Charlie House after a busy day and soak in the relaxing surroundings and atmosphere.
- Jack (8/5): Charlie House Pinklao - Great little hotel just outside Bangkok centre! Convenient enough to reach all the sights in 30 minutes! Taxis struggled to find the location but taking the hotel card out helps tenfold!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Terrible location - This place would be a solid 3 stars if it weren't for its location. It is not accessible by skytrain and due to heavy traffic, is often a very long taxi ride from anywhere a tourist might want to go. Our taxi ride from BKK to the hotel took 2 hours! The staff often tried to dissuade us from visiting popular markets and tourist attractions due to the fact that they were far from accessible from the hotel and taxi drivers often declined to bring us back to the hotel (unless we paid them more money, off the metre) because there is just no business for them in that area.
My second reason for not recommending this hotel is that it's simply not worth the price. Based on location alone, but also because anything we purchase there (meals, taxi rides to the airport) was 3 to 5 times more expensive than it is anywhere else.
This hotel is only accessible via the alley, though they do send a golf cart to drive you back to the hotel when you first arrive/leave. The grounds are quite beautiful and well maintained. Our hotel room was nothing particularly special though the bathroom was far cleaner than most bathrooms I experienced in Thailand.
I tend to stay at places that are out of the way, but the location of this hotel coupled with Bangkok traffic made this a big disappointment. You can find something just as nice and far less expensive in a more accessible area.
- Jose (10/5): - Enjoyed it,absolutely
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just fine - Difficult to find the hotel.
Room was just fine.
Wifi connection was bad.
5mins walk to main street.
- Amy (10/5): - Lovely staff, nice quiet location but with plenty of places to eat and shop within walking distance.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Peacefull House - Soi is very quite area peaceful hotel very clean with helpful friendly staff
- Karole L (8/5): Lovely pool - Loved my stay. Decently convenient to the center of Bangkok and walking distance to central plaza and interesting restaurants and shops. Fantastic pool!! Only challenge was cab drivers didn't know how to find it and short walk up the lane with baggage to get there
- Verified traveler (8/5): Diamond in the rough - The neighborhood is a little run down and out of the way of everything, but the hotel is great. Cute, cozy and cheap.
- Lauren (8/5): Inconvient location, but a really lovely hotel - This is a lovely little hotel, a peaceful oasis in the city. The food in the restaurant was very good, and the staff were very friendly and helpful always. We had a family suite and the room was spacious and comfortable. We were thrilled with the hotel from top to bottom, except that we had a lot of trouble with the wifi.
The neighborhood was farther from the city than I expected. The neighborhood is not tourist friendly, and it also lacks the charm of many "authentic" travel experiences. However, there are malls and street food nearby, and a big Tesco Lotus, so you can absolutely find food, taxis, and everything you need here. It's not a bad neighborhood, but it's not really a pleasant place to walk around either. There is a cat cafe next to the cinema, and there are lots of restaurants in the basement of the Central Plaza Mall across the street.
I was spending time with my family here, and the hotel was perfect for that. We just had to take a taxi when we wanted to explore Bangkok.
- colin (10/5): colins review - Clean room very friendly helpful staff. Close to shopping & all transport.only an hour walk across the bridge to khaosan road.
- Simon (8/5): Very good - Perfect for a two night stay for a one day visit to bangkok. Decent location - 40 mins walk from the grand palace.
Very nice place, pool was very small but nice after a hot day in Bangkok. Would recommend and would stay again
- Viktoria (10/5): Excellent - Everything was perfect, lady from reception always very helpful, you get all you need
- Verified traveler (8/5): Little nice hotel - Very hard to find, taxi drivers were always lost as the hotel isn't visible from the main road. Hotel was really nice and staff very helpful. I would definitely stay again.
- Ying Fung (8/5): thoughtful service provided by the receptionists - the receptionists:APP & PK are providing very thoughtful services with angel face and lovely smile. the welcome drinks: roselle tea is also the key factor which gives me a very good impression to the hotel.
i will be back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful Peaceful Tranquil in centre of Bangkok - You walk down the dirty average alley in Bangkok and walk through gates into this haven ........ the staff are very friendly and helpful The rooms are fantastic. We spent six days there and did not want to leave. We would recommend it to anyone and will come again if we in Bangkok. Mother with three 12 year olds.
