The resort and view is beautiful, with so many birds and well kept grounds. The food was great and they did us a packed brunch for our morning safari, which we also arranged through the hotel. Would definitely recommend for a lovely place to relax and unwind with nature.

The bathroom was absolutely appalling as the drain smell was very strong in the bathroom and into the bedroom. It almost made us feel sick. The staff tried to fix it for us but pouring stuff down the drains didn’t work. The light in the ceiling of the bathroom flickered so we could not use it. There was no ceiling lights in the bedroom. The aircon only partially worked. Food in the restaurant was ok. Overall I would not recommend this accommodation.

We had to leave early to go on a safari, and they prepared breakfast in a box for us to take along. The bar service was excellent as well. The only less positive point was the food, which, although very tasty, was too spicy overall for a tourist.

• 894mrssc (8/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely hotel with views overlooking the paddy fields. Staff were all welcoming and attentive although service was sometimes a bit slow. The food was good although there was a very small choice of desserts (compared to all the other hotels we had stayed in). We wanted to buy a bottle of wine and asked for one from the menu - they didn’t have that one or the other 2 Sauvignons at the similar price so brought out one they didn’t have which was over 3000 srp more! We suggested that they could offer this at the same price as the one we wanted as it wasn’t our fault they didn’t have it, but they were unwilling to do this which was quite disappointing. Other than that we enjoyed our short stay
• 916yasmineg (10/5): Lovely resort - The location was beautiful and had lovely views over rice fields. The staff were very welcoming and generous throughout our stay. The room was airy and had a large comfortable bed with a balcony overlooking the lake and pool. The bathroom was clean and had a decent size shower (although due to having no base the water sometimes went beyond the shower door into the main bathroom floor). Large choice of options for meals whether on the buffet or a la carte menu with local dishes and international choices on offer. Overall a great relaxing environment to spend a portion of our trip. We didn't use the pool but it looked sparkling clean and had loungers around for casual relaxing/sunbathing as well. It was a convenient place from which you can easily visit the national parks for safari and the staff are more than happy to help arrange this for you alongside offering a packed breakfast if leaving before the buffet time.

The restaurant staff were particularly helpful, and Imasha went to great lengths to ensure we got all we required.
• Kvahis (10/5): Nice and cozy hotel - Cozy hotel with very friendly staff. The rooms are big enough and have space for luggages also. The hotel is near enough when going for a safari to Yala. Everything is functioning well, it is clean and has a small shop also to buy things forgotten. As european traveller, we were happy to find all kinds of possibilities (many outlets) to recharge electrical equipments.

As with all hotels we have stayed at here in Sri Lanka, it is always the wonderful people who look after us that make our stays so memorable. And so it was at Kithala resort! From the warm and genuine welcome at reception by the lovely staff who greeted us with their warm smiles to the fabulous tea, looking after the dining area overlooking the rice fields and jungle. To Imasha and Asanka who managed the restaurant so ably and Yeshmi and Juanita who took care of our orders during our stay, Thank you for your kindness and attention to detail and for looking after my wife who has a gluten intolerance. The atmosphere at both breakfast and dinner, sitting outside was magical. Our room, 110, was well appointed and we felt very comfortable. Having a door that opens onto the lawn near the pool and overlooking the rice fields and jungle was especially nice. For our full day excursion to Yala National Park, having a pre packed breakfast waiting for us in bags at 6:00 am ready for our pick up by our guide, was a very nice gesture and an unexpected treat. Thank you to everyone at Kithala and to Kawya and her colleagues at reception who wished us well as we departed for Galle, thank you all for making our stay so memorable.

Friendly staff, good service. Dinner buffet ok. Can't comment on breakfast buffet as we went to morning safari, had packed breakfast to go which was accepable but not great. Lovely pool area. Rooms really good. Only downside was that bathroom has small openings to corridor outside (not possible to close), letting insects in at night and you can hear "everything" standing in the corridor or even in bathroom next door because of same openings there..

The resort is calm and surrounded by nature, making it a nice place to relax after safaris and long drives. Mr Myruru the chef was exceptional. He made special meals for one of us but his buffets were exquisite. The facilities were clean, comfortable and picturesque. The restaurant Has an extensive selection. We only had a one night stay, but enjoyed the pool for the afternoon. As we went on a dawn safari, the hotel packed us an enjoyable breakfast to take.

• nicolepR2758OO (10/5): Heartfelt thank you to Maduka Mayuranga for the safari tour in Yala national park - Maduka and his driver guided us through Yala National Park servicing with the Leopard and Elefant hot spots. In addition he explained a lot about the park, the structure and the different kind of species, e.g. snakes, mongoose, monkeys, birds, deers and the habitat of Leopards. They constantly drive with high security and have very nice spotting eyes to find the animals. Fun and laughing was a major part of the 4 hrs. safari. I can recommend as very professiona, young career oriented guide. All the best for him and his family.

The room is spacious and decorated in colonial style. The bathroom comes with a full amenity kit, bathtub and shower. There is also a terrace facing the pool.

The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, treating us with great care throughout our stay. Whenever we needed something, they responded promptly and with a smile. The highlight of our stay was definitely the food — absolutely exceptional! We’ve previously stayed at Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa in Pasikuda, another property from Thema Collection, and we could clearly see the same high standards in both food and service here at Kithala. The pool area was another favorite spot for us, overlooking a stunning paddy field that created such a soothing and serene atmosphere. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. We also appreciated the early check-in we requested being arranged without any hassle. The use of herbal toiletry products like shampoo, body wash, and handwash was a thoughtful touch that added to the experience. Overall, we had an amazing and relaxing stay at Kithala Resort. We’re already looking forward to exploring more properties from Thema Collection in the future! 🌿✨

• juliagK6473NS (2/5): If you take money from your guests by mistake, you resolve this at your earliest convenience - I was really disappointed with my experience at this hotel. When checking out, I was told several times that my card had been declined, even though the issue was not with my bank. As a result, three identical payments were taken from my account for the same bill. After a 30-minute delay, I had no choice but to pay in cash so our tour could continue. I later provided all the evidence by email, and even our tour guide contacted the hotel to help resolve the issue. Despite this, I have still not received a refund or a clear response. Mistakes can happen, but taking three payments from a guest’s account and failing to resolve it promptly is unacceptable and unprofessional. This situation could have ruined someone’s holiday. I am now having to go through my bank to recover the money.
• Dinesh (10/5): - had a short stay at kithala and we were given a very warm welcome by the front office team .. they make you feel at home and invited us to light the Oil Lamp which is a symbol of respect ..it was very special ..wish we had stayed for few more days !!
• N6308DOcarlm (8/5): Pleasant Hotel. - We only stayed for one night but this place was on the whole very nice, reception were welcoming and as with most places we visited the staff looked happy to be doing their jobs. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good but we were dissapointed in the evening offering as there was not much to our taste. This property was in a good location for a visit to Yala National Park, which is a great experience.

Nestled among lush greenery with rice paddies stretching into the horizon, this resort feels peaceful, grounded, and welcoming. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-kept – with beautiful views of the natural surroundings. You can feel that the resort is built with love for the land and an appreciation for Sri Lankan charm. The staff were kind, attentive, and always ready with a smile – which made our stay feel warm and personal. What stood out most was the *balance between comfort and authenticity*. It’s not over-the-top luxury, but it offers everything you need – and does so with heart. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the atmosphere in the dining area felt like home. Being close to Yala National Park, this was also the ideal base for our safari. We loved how the team helped coordinate everything smoothly.

We got upgraded to the set menu rather than the buffet which was delightful, and special shout outs to Kavindu and Vigneshwaran for great service. Defo reccomend !

• Fearless577108 (10/5): Wonderful - Yes it was. It had a lovely atmosphere and very pleasant and obliging staff. The food was delicious and the unique infinity pool overlooked the paddy fields and water buffalo. We had pre dinner drinks with our tour group which was great.

• Roving35052633346 (10/5): Superb hotel in a lovely spot - Superb hotel. We had a room literally ten steps to the pool, which looked out to a small wetland with water birds then a rice paddy. Room was very comfortable with everything we needed, and immaculately clean. Food was excellent, staff were lovely. No defects or faults of any sort, it was all good

• Camp_TT (10/5): Cool off and relax - This is a fantastic place to relax, cool off and get pampered before and after a Yala wildlife safari. The pool overlooks paddy fields alongside waterways with turtles and kingfishers. All the staff including the grounds folk were very welcoming. The service by Almali and her team was professional and attentive without being intrusive. Thank you all!

We have noticed many trainees who are very attentive to all the guest. This is a testament to the training provided by the hotel to be top notch . Good food , beautiful views and excellent staff. We will definitely come back for a longer stay.

This was a great location for the Yala safari and the hotel pack a breakfast for the early start. Overall a great stay.
• 116simonp (8/5): Very nice deep pool - Wonderful location. About 40 min drive to Yala. Internet is not great. Half board means no lunch (breakfast and dinner only). Full board means 3 meals. Rooms are clean and comfortable with a nice view over the pool to the rice fields

• 511chandrikas (8/5): Simplicity mingled with nature - Kithala resort, yet ananother blissfully warm place to be. I was iinvited by my friend Mr Salinda (Housekeeper) and we stayed there with my mother for 3 nights . I fell in love with how the resort is mingled with nature. Simplicity was the key. Lush paddy field symbolised the lifestyle of Tissamaharama community . What mostly felt by me and my mom was the caring nature of the staff from the reception desk upto the dinning room and beyond. Although the hotel is old, cleanliness was in good standards. One set back was not having a variety in the menu. After staying for three nights we preferred to get some changes in the buffet menu. Warm thanks to all the staff for a lovely stay . We'll be back!
• Culture21360415422 (8/5): Perfect stay to start Safari and enjoy some pool time. - We had very pleasant stay at the hotel. Rooms are good and staff super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the 3 days in the pool area and of course the park where we see all type of animals. Luckily we saw Leopard, Elephant and Crocodile.

• 246pragyat (6/5): Living our Tarzan moments at yala national park 🏞 - We stayed at Kithala Resort, located about 25 km from Yala National Park, mainly for its convenient access to early morning safaris. The property is surrounded by scenic paddy fields and has an inviting open-air swimming pool with views of lush greenery, which was quite relaxing. However, the overall experience was underwhelming. While the room was clean and decently maintained, the bathroom was noticeably cramped and could use an upgrade.Food quality at the resort left much to be desired, with limited options overall and nothing catering specifically to children. One of the biggest disappointments was the breakfast arrangement for the safari. We were provided with a packed meal for our 5 a.m. safari, but despite requesting separate vegetarian and separate non veg options , chicken steaks were included in the vegetarian parcel. This made the food unusable for our group and was quite frustrating. Additionally, the insect presence around the property was excessive, which made spending time outdoors less enjoyable. While the resort has potential thanks to its natural surroundings and proximity to Yala, it falls short in service quality and attention to detail. With some improvements in food service, hygiene, and guest needs, it could offer a much better experience.

• CharithaB (10/5): Comfortable stay with friendly service... - I stayed here during a trip to Kataragama with my family. The booking process was smooth, and I did it online. They have a pretty functional web site and are very responsive with the phone. Location It's located in Thissamaharama away from the clutter of the city in a very quiet environment. Perfect place for a relaxing stay. Hotel The front of the hotel just faces the main road and looks quite ordinary but don’t let the looks from the front deceive you. The back of the hotel is totally different from the front. It looks over pure greenery of the grass covered open area and the paddy field. The paddy was still young, so it had brilliant green which was soothing for the eyes. In between there is a nice pond which attracts birds. The pool is also situated in the garden overlooking the paddy field, which is quite nice. Accommodation We booked a triple room on half board basis. Our room was on the upper floor next to the stairway leading up to the garden. The room is spacious but not the largest in the class, very clean, and it has a private balcony with a breathtaking view of the green paddy fields and the garden. Great place to read a book and relax while zipping tea. The room consists of all the basic facilities including TV, sofa, safe etc… Also, it had tea making facilities. The only negative point I had with the room is its bathroom. It’s a bit cramped and the door of the bathroom cubical was hitting the shower head which misaligns it. And the showerhead is too far for a short person to adjust. Though it’s not a dealbreaker it was a bit inconvenient. But it had all the toiletries. The beds were very comfy and overall, I am happy with the room though I had some negatives on the bathroom. Food We had dinner and breakfast from the hotel. Both were offered as buffets. The spread was relatively small but quite sufficient to fill you up. It was just right for us, and we loved it. The service received during meals was great. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. Service We received great service from the hotel staff. The staff was extremely friendly and quite happy to respond to our requests and was ready to provide a detailed explanation of the aspects of the hotel when we had questions. Loved the great service from the friendly staff. The hotel offers some excursions like safaris, but we didn’t took part because we came there to have a relaxing time which we did. Overall, we loved the stay at the hotel. It's an excellent place for families or groups of friends to have a relaxing time with some safari adventures.

Rooms were always clean and very comfortable. Meals were delicious and plenty of it. Would recommend anyone go visit and stay here. Would love to come back with the family one day.

The surroundings are so well kept and the pool is lovely to sit and cool off in. We had the buffet and found it was delicious and we had plenty to choose from It was a great base to go on safari. All in all highly recommend.
