Guest Reviews
- Zairil (10/5): -
- Jefrey (4/5): - Ontbijt was redelijk.
- wendi (7/5): Leisure trip - Location, the view, breakfast...mostly everthing No water heater, the room is upstairs and will shake if you move fast or big movement
- FATIN HAZIRAH (9/5): Best Stay at Langkawi - 1. Very traditional
2. Location near to Cenang Beach
3. Outdoor concept for shower
4. Spacious room
5. Clean 1. The breakfast should be more traditional. Nasi lemak bungkus & kuih should be sufficient, no need english breakfast
- Rabih (10/5): - Great experience
- Gemma (10/5): - Lovely location, great wildlife on your doorstep. Spacious inside and out. Staff friendly and offered to clean room after a day We like everything
- Monika (10/5): -
- Abdelrahman (7/5): -
- Reine (8/5): Excellent logement - Très original, chambre près d'une rizière. Logement très proche de la plage et des restaurants. Aucune relation avec d'autres voyageurs, très isolé.
- stephane (9/5): -
- Philip (8/5): Hidden gem - Lovely position in rice paddy field. Abundant wild life. Egrets, kingfishers, red wattled lapwings a plenty. The raised hut on stilts was delightful, with the dining table underneath. It was a short walk to the beach and all the amenities. Not much. The loo flush was a bit slow but we didn't let them know so that's our fault. The breakfast, although generous wasn't perfect but to be honest that's us being picky. We were very pleased overall. Thanks!
- Amin (10/5): Greatly experience indeed - It's a different experience but definitely a unique place Bit too noisy at night and drivers tend to vroom on the street nearby.
- Quan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anita (9/5): Superb -
- Azril (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): A glimpse of northern village life - Its was a fantastic stay. I grew up in the north of Malaysia, staying close to the paddy field make me reminisce my chilhood and I was happy that my daughter had a glimpse of that experience. From the surroundings, the sound of frogs and cicadas, and waking up to the paddy field with its birds, butterflies and buffalos. Gemalai village is within the proximity of the Paddy Museum (Laman Padi) so we take a full package to experience a glimpse of the northern way of life in Malaysia. The rooms are well designed, spacious and is within walking distance to Chenang beach so we definitely will be staying here again if we are in Langkawi.
- Emmy (8/5): Very good - It's strategic location. Away from hustle & bustle of Pantai Cenang. The bedroom lights were too dim.
- Rosy (8/5): Peaceful stay. - Lovely authentic room, clean and away from the Main Street. Walkable distance to the beach and shops along the lane. Peaceful stay in nature. Fantastic value for money, would recommend for the experience.
- Bing (9/5): Very good - Very beautiful room, nice environment outside if you like nature. It’s perfect! Very beautiful room, nice environment outside if you like nature. It’s perfect
- Clarvie (6/5): Pleasant - Location is nice to Chenang Beach. They do not have enough man power to handle the check-in process.
Check-in time is at 3pm, I arrived around 3pm but I had to wait until 4pm for the staff to arrive before I could get my key. Check-out time is at 12pm l, couldn't even stay until 12.30pm.
- Nurul (8/5): They help me a lot . And allow to changed the Room - Nice and good ambience
- Linda (8/5): Very good - Rustic accommodations facing a rice field. Breakfast served on the lower balcony. Unique accommodations but only for the adventurous . We thoroughly enjoyed it. Within walking distance of beach, grocery store and restaurants. Excellent experience. We were there 3 nights and very much enjoyed it. Not for the light sleeper. Near a side street with many motorcycles. Also every night packs of dogs were howling and barking. Roosters may bother some but not us.
- Sonia (9/5): I would definitely recommend my stay here but if you are a light sleeper you may have trouble sleeping especially during - I love how it still gives me a village vibe despite being in the middle of a busy street It can get very noisy because the location is located next to the main road
- Alaa (9/5): It was great stay gives what i need in island stay and every one could think to have that kind of stay at least once in - Perfect for island vipes and country life very relaxing view of fields and farmers animals in the field very clean. Very wide space. Near to laundacy. Very good local food restaurants
not very fsr from beach a nice walk through fields
very good relaxing bed They accept bags till checkin 3pm
no front disk before 12 noon
the towels little stained
the bathroo m has an open part near the roof although it helps the hut design but difficult for children and risks insects. However no problem reported about insect
- Deayana (9/5): Good stay, comfortable bed, - Exceed expectations. Nice design, nice bathroom. Comfortable. Nothing
- Ali (10/5): İt was nice place to get relax little outside the centrum of langkawi. But dont worry 7-10 minutes to reach place and the - Location and perfect wiev Nothing!
- Waldo (7/5): Good -
- Bing (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful environments. Nice accommodation. Very good location. Will stay again. Service could could been better
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Mohammed (9/5): Charming, comfy, great value, and Insta-worthy! - Loved the local village charm with modern comforts—great value, super fun, and so many Insta-worthy spots! Not much to say, just don’t expect a 4-5 star hotel—but I still loved it!
- Rafiah (8/5): Blissful -
- Zarif (9/5): Superb - Easy to go everywhere, nearby to pantai cenang by car for only 5minute!
- run87 (8/5): Amazing balcony - A nice place overall. We took two of the chairs from below up to sit on the balcony. The aircon worked well and the outdoor bathroom was novel.
It was amazing sitting on the balcony watching traffic and birds. The was no rice planted out while we were there unfortunately.
A couple of things to note. It’s not great sound proofing so the noise of the frogs at night can be loud for light sleepers.
If the wind is blowing the wrong way the smell off the paddies isn’t great.
Definitely glad we stayed a couple of nights though.
- Christine (4/5): - The pictures are very deceiving and I am guessing taken some time ago. The place has been not very well taken care of and in desperate need of some maintenance. Walkway planks rotting, nails sticking up, no rice fields anymore, cabins need sprucing up. When our driver dropped us if he literally said “oh live like in the village…. 20 years ago.
- Syamimi (5/5): Passable -
- Joel (10/5): - Very enjoyable stay! We loved the somewhat open-air bathroom and the beautiful grass around the room. It was very entertaining sitting on the porch and watching the cows. At night, the stars were gorgeous. Though it’d be helpful if there was a way to get more water.
- María (10/5): Great stay in Langkawi - It’s a beautiful place near the beach and all the restaurants and shops but it is also very peaceful. The staff are really kind and helpful.
- Katharina (8/5): Nice and original way to stay in Langkawi away from big touristy hotels - The cabin had a nice flair and was very clean when we arrived. They even granted us an early check-in. Beach was in a walkable distance but still a bit far (which we knew but still).
The hotel had a spacious parking lot for our motorbike and a water dispenser with free water which was very nice.
Luggage can be stored after check-out. The village is located next to a busy street which was a bit loud especially at the evening. Housekeeping came at the third day (because of covid?!- which was kind of strange to us).
Later check-out was not granted for free, even though the cabins were all empty during our entire stay.
- Shekar84 (9/5): Lovely place - Loved everything. Friendly staff. Greay value for money. Fantastic place. Loved the whole accomodation and how it was all set up. Staff so kind and provided me early checkin and late checkout without charging me extra. Requested for veg food. It was good, quantity was very less for a three member family.
- Sandra (1/5): The facilities are horrible. No good welcoming. I was suffering all night from insects and mosquitoes besides no air con - Nothing. Was the worst experience ever I liked nothing except the location.
- Naim.ibrahim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shehan (5/5): Passable - Very calm and quiet place Air conditioner is not working properly, it was burning hot and I couldn’t sleep well
- Saeko (9/5): Lovely comfortable Bungalow!! - Very nice setting, quiet and relaxed. I really like it.
Also good location. 5 minutes walk to the beach and another 5 minutes walk to the town centre.
Thank you so much,
- Zahidah (6/5): A secluded stay in Cenang, walking distance to the beach:) - -The room are clean and spacious and the view was lovely with green fields and lotuses around!! ; it opens to a wide paddy field but sadly since it was not in the season yet at the moment it was only filled with mud and some tall grass. please come in january - april if you want to see the paddy field! Sadly can't see the water buffaloes too :"
-It was very near to the beach! You can just simply walk for 7--10 mins and you reached pantai cenang already! -The unit that i stayed was on the upper floor so you need to climb up and down; a bit of hassle for people with knee issues esp since i got knee pain (my bad tho' I should've just booked the other units without the upper deck)
-the whole place seems looks a bit old and run-down but it was managed to be maintained clean by the person in charge
-no proper lobby (it was just a small room where you check in and all) and it was kinda creepy at night esp when there's not many people staying , and during my 1st night as i was alone in my room (and possibly in the entire chalet compound as i saw no other people checking in) i heard someone/some heavy footsteps creeping up the stairs leading to my room !!! and i felt soooo scared so i shouted "HOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII" in a very deep manly voice to scare the intruder? and thankfully the steps disappear!! LOL! so please be aware if you are a lone female traveler.
-it was situated NEXT to the main road leading to the beach (esp the units with the upper deck) so it was kinda noisy all the time with the cars and bikes passing around since its quite a busy street
-the breakfast was very plain and can be improved; maybe we should be given option to choose a nasi lemak packet instead as it will be a better option rather than those western style breakfast.
- Lai Leong (8/5): - The internal passageway from the Rice Garden to Gemalai Village lightings need to be improved
- Khurram (8/5): Very good -
- Charmaine (9/5): Superb - Great location (close to Cenang Beach but still in peaceful area)
Spacious room, comfy bed
Overall very clean, comes with clean towels
Great value for money! Be ready for some mosquitoes (inevitable because of the style of the house), personally not too bothered but just bring some repellent spray
Morning got woken up by loud prayer broadcast at ~5.30/6am which lasts quite long
- Suffianhadi (8/5): beautiful - I love that each villa was equipped with fishing rod. I had excellent time fishing just outside my villa. The knee-deep water helped a lot for a novice like me.
- Michael (9/5): Awesome spot on the planet - Very different 5 minute walk to town
- Noor (9/5): Superb -
- Imogen (9/5): Lovely! - We loved it! The room/ hut was gorgeous - spacious, characterful, very clean, and in such a relaxing location. 5min walk to beach, ~20min walk to more main area of cenang & beach. Reception area is very small & bit run down - didn’t really make any difference to our stay though.
- julieaJ6792GZ (10/5): Lovely clean and authentic Cabins with fabulous open air bathroom... loved it! - This is a beautiful place to stay. We had a Chalet, its beautifully clean and comfortable. I had my reservations regarding an open air bathroom but i loved it! the shower is fabulous and even using the bathroom during the evening with the lights on there wasn't a bug in sight! The view onto the padi fields is lovely. We hired a car for Langkawi which was the best thing we did, theres a small car park but for only around 3 - 4 cars at the most. Also although the village looks very remote it is next to a very noisy main road which was a bit annoying in the early hours of the morning. Highly recommended though we loved it!
- A (6/5): Pleasant -
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ahmed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandria (8/5): Lovely stay in a traditional chalet - Good location near Pantai Cenang (10/15 minute walk to main area).
Peaceful despite being near busy roads/not far from the airport.
Clean accommodation and liked the traditional style of the chalets.
Helpful and friendly staff.
Great value. Wifi was quite poor in our hut (the furthest away from reception).
- Zuraida (9/5): The Gemalai 28th April. - The location is perfect. Love the surroundings view, perfect for my photo shoot. Kindly upgrade the quality of the toilet roll.
- Hannah (10/5): Lovely local hospitality - Perfect location, a very easy walk to the beach but set back amongst the rice paddy fields. Sitting on the balcony at dusk and listening to all the birds was very relaxing. The staff were helpful and kind, their cats were friendly and sweet. Comfortable room with lots of space and a pleasant atmosphere.
- Liena (10/5): Exceptional - View Mosquito
- Anastasiya (10/5): Exceptional - It was a nice room, new and clean, very spacious. The bathroom was just perfect, first time saw such a good, designed and renovated bathroom in bungalow. Didn’t have any insects in the room, except once but the workers came well equipped and removed it fast. Stuff was friendly and helpful. So nice that they provide unlimited drinking water in the cooler and don’t use plastic bottles. The way to the beach took about 5-10 mins. The view around was pleasing to the eye every morning.
- Fiona (8/5): great location, unique property and very friendly staff - location, facilities were good, option of breakfast was very good noisy road at the back but it didn’t disturb us too much
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Tzanakis (5/5): Passable - my bungalow didn’t have an internet extender and I didn’t have any reception. the stuff didn’t provide any help.
- Aina (4/5): Disappointing -
- Askhat (10/5): Close to beach, unique experience - Clean, great location and fast Wi-Fi. Quite, you don’t hear your neighbors. The bathroom needs little refreshing
- Neftaly (8/5): Very good -
- Hanisah (9/5): amazing place. love it and highly recommended - scenery excellent, spacious room, huge bed, feels like staying in kampung bed bugs! - hope they can treat the mattress to kill the bed bugs. my son and I woke up in the middle of the night with bites all over our body. we know its bed bugs coz we saw lots of tiny bits of blood spots on the mattress when we woke up
- Kashaf (7/5): Good - Location was excellent, scenic Locker was out of order, in wash room Muslim shower didn't have nozel proper, room door lock was not easy
- Alice (8/5): Relaxing stay at a great location - Great location just back from pantai cenang main street and beach but quiet and relaxed.
- Farah (9/5): Superb - I like the atmosphere, the concept of The Gemalai itself. Just open the door and we can see a very beautiful view. At night there is no need to turn on the air conditioner because it is already cold 🤭 The toilet is also comfortable. I booked a two-story house. Under the house there is a place to eat and relax. If I go to Langkawi I will definitely stay again at The Gemalai Village.
- Uday (8/5): Very good -
- Aaron (9/5): Superb - Well equipped and an unusual place (in a good way) to stay Nothing to complain
- Gerald (5/5): Disappointing holiday resort in noisy location. - Short walk to the beach and local restaurants.
Interesting wildlife to be seen at and around location.
Novelty factor of the traditional buildings.
Friendly and helpful maid service.
Facilities inside the chalets that were good, the shower, the fan and Aircon systems. Unhelpful staff member at check in who showed little or no interest in our arrival. Reluctant to help with issue of the rooms safety deposit box. The coded one in room was not working. After much debate a master key was provided to allow use of this box.
Main issue regarding the property is location and the noise generated by the nearby main road. Terrible noise throughout the whole night every night. Little or no sleep due to the noise levels. Noise was exacerbated by no sound proofing to the individual chalets made only of wood, and ratten type interior walls with thatched roofs.
Poor breakfast which was lacking in choice, simple and repetitive.
Fixtures and fittings were dated and tired.
Chalets and buildings did not match the photos used to attract customers. Now old and tired.
This resort is suitable only for those wishing to stay for one or two nights. Unfortunately I booked to stay 3 weeks. Tough with so much noise and so little sleep.
- Raja (7/5): Good -
- Amira (8/5): Very good -
- Rohil (8/5): very relaxing - the ambient and location near to pantai chenang need upgrading on the facilities. mayb due to the pendemic some area and facilties deteriorate but the resort has good potential.
- Adham (8/5): Very good - Staying in a wooden hut was a new experience. You can hear sounds of nature and live it somehow. It is only a 10-minute walk distance to the downtown. The noise from the main road was sometimes annoying. Safe was broken, however, the staff offered to keep our things in office's safe.
- Rebecca (9/5): Superb -
- Christoph (9/5): Superb -
- Halimah (8/5): Excellent resort and great location - The room is spacious with a super comfy bed. The toilet is also huge with good water pressure. I love the rain shower.
We didn't order breakfast but you can always walk to the restaurant nearby for a great selection of food. It is just 2 minute walk from the resort. The only setback was maybe on communication breakdown where we had informed the staff to make our room for 2nd day when we went out in the moring but it didn't happen. They didn't make up our room once we came back from outside.
- Jethro (10/5): Exceptional - Good for nature lover. Lack of light in room
- Julian (7/5): Good -
- Gabriela (7/5): Nice but skip breakfast and dont waste money on deluxe chalet. - The chalet was nice and clean with AC. The superior chalet is a waste of money as it looks that it is just on the upper floor but from the outside at least does not seem any bigger that regular chalets. Next time I would skip the breakfast as I did not like it most of the days and only ate toast with butter.
- Is (9/5): Great Stay! Awesome! - The scenery was awesome! Remind me to my early childhood looking at paddy field. You can see buffalo too! The receptionist area too tiny.
- Nor (8/5): Very good -
- Iman (7/5): Just how I expected! - 1. The room concept was lovely! A rustic wooden house in the middle of paddy field
2. Seamless check in. Very fast, just collect they keys.
3. Walking distance to Cenang Street/Beach/Mall
4. Nice balcony and semi open shower
5. Our room is the furthers from the entrance meaning, we do not face any other rooms. Only us and the view. Beautiful!
6. Water pressure was good in the shower 1. Lighting is a bit dim but I do not mind that much cause if I didnt have to work that week, I dont care
2. Since it's in the middle of the paddy field, expect some animals (not big, like birds maybe) in the bathroom during the night
3. It can get a bit hot during the day but that's OK
- Flavio (7/5): Cool place but near a main road. - Very unusual and cool place to stay. it’s near a main road and you can here the traffic. it’s a pity in such a nice location. Also we stayed 4 nights and 3 days we had the same breakfast.
- Aishah (9/5): A really beautiful stay! But could be better! - -landscape and the concept of this place
-location very near to amenities
-the villa is really spacious and has balcony with chairs
and table
-the beautiful paddy field and pond surrounding
this place
-not too dark at night as there are light poles along
the pathway -sounds of animals/insects outside quite loud at night
-the wardrobe have some old musty smell
-the sliding door is not secured enough and hard to lock
and unlock
-the signboard to this place is not clear enough
-no basic toiletteries
-front desk is not very welcoming
-parking space is small and limited
-a lot of lizards
- Aliyah (10/5): amazing - it was near to a lot of food places. place was very quiet and peaceful at night
- Sharifah (9/5): Superb -
- Norfazilah (10/5): Excellent - Everything is perfect. Definitely will come here again in the future 😊 It would be nice if they serve traditional breakfast it match the vibe of staying there
- Mohammed (8/5): Very good - Environment, view and weather. Overall great The facility sound for me not secure, maybe because I'm solo traveller. Just feel that due to the gate kept open without a security guard. Overall it's was nice experience. Will absolutely come again as couple
- Mohd (9/5): Superb -
- vdimin (10/5): Great Staycation - Good location near Chenang beach. About 10 minutes walk. Stayed one night here during the RCMO September 2020 for my solo birthday trip. Arrived later in the evening/check in. Booked the double storey chalet with breakfast on promo price through Agoda. Very spacious & comfy. Queen size bed. Had a good night sleep. Breakfast with a view of the paddy field. Friendly & helpful staffs around to assist you if you need anything. Overall, great staycation for me! Will definitely come back and stay here again.
- ClaireNorwich123 (10/5): Perfect! - We loved our short stay here! For the price we paid, we couldn't have been happier. Check in was easy, big comfy bed, views over fields (sometimes with cows) and a lovely resident cat. The outdoor shower was more powerful than we expected - a bonus! Aircon worked very nicely - the cabins get hot during the day (obviously) and the aircon didn't take long to cool us down when we got back. Not far from the beach and down the road from a night market. The road is nearby but that's not a problem unless you are a very light sleeper. There are no bells and whistles here, no large pool and sunbeds, it is what it is - and it's beautiful. I'd come back :-)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely outlook on some former padis with views of birds and buffaloes, very comfy wooden bungalows with good beds, ac and a mini fridge. Free bicycles to explore the countryside. Nice breakfast served on your patio... So much nicer than the concrete hotels on Langkawi's main strip. Would def stay here again!
- Jaana (10/5): Most enjoyable stay in Langkawi - If you want a unique experience, go to the Gemalai Village. We had the best time there. The cottage was clean and comfortable and it was nice to have breakfast on our terrace every morning. The nature is close to you there: you can watch water buffalos, eagles, lizards and different birds all day. There's a supermarket close to it and it's walking distance from the beach. Customer service was also excellent, we got vegetarian breakfast when requested. Just a perfect place to stay!
- Yakinnn (10/5): We love it! - A place we called home. We always prefer the double storey chalet. Room is clean. Trust me, no mosquitoes or any other insects in the room. Its our 3rd stay here. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Just change the breakfast menu a lil bit. If they use real koko krunch would be nice.
- AidaZainal (6/5): BEST VILLAGE STYLE - Nice chalet/resort/hotel. Bet the foreigners would love to stay here due to the environment more to village style. It is so relaxing. Whats best is it is located in the middle of city. Good benefit. Just hoping the manager of Gemalai Resort would upgrade it better specially the activities like cycling. Get the bicycles fixed and for sure there will be more guest coming!!
- 553meabhb (10/5): Fantastic - I booked a superior chalet for my friends birthday. Having told the staff it was my friends birthday, they went above and beyond to make it a special day. Balloons and a happy birthday banner were set up in the room for arrival. The accommodation is fantastic and staff are exceptional.
