Guest Reviews
- Sarah (6/5): Modern Retro - The location is beautifully by the water and close enough to the town shops and pub to walk there. The motel is older in style and has undergone a significant refurbishment. The furnishing was modern and gave a retro homely feel.
The only issues I had were:
~ lower water pressure in the shower
~ the lack of sound proofing in the rooms- a layer of soundproofing felt I've seen in other hotels would be a useful addition
~ no windows- KI is known for beautiful fresh air and I would have loved to be able to open a window or even the door (if they installed safety screen) to have some fresh air in the room.
- Christine (10/5): - The Seaview rooms have been beautifully updated with contemporary design features. Resting in these rooms you look through palm trees to the ocean beyond, lovely!!
- Martha (10/5): - We had a nice stay at Kangaroo Island Seaview Motel. It appeared recently renovated and was clean. Easy, free parking on site, and was walking distance to nearby restaurants and shops.
- Brenda (10/5): - The property was well located and the view was beautiful.
- Tracy (10/5): - Nice stay
- Ali (8/5): - Great location, very close to all shops and restaurants. They should remove the 3rd bed for couples to allow for more space. The shelf above the bed needs to be higher to stop from hitting your head. It’s the last thing to have to worry about every time you get into bed.
- JoyceRSutherland (10/5): Room with a spectacular view - Wonderful location to allow easy access to all the interesting places to visit on the island. Extremely helpful, friendly staff. We stayed in their two bedroom, one bathroom family apartment which was fitted out perfectly. Would highly recommend this Hotel which is close to the local shops and restaurants
- Jenny (10/5): - Wonderful place with a great location right in front of the beach. An amazing Italian restaurant just a few minutes walk. The pizzas were amazing.
- KerrieI_12 (8/5): Fantastic room with 2 double beds and great outdoor seating area in convenient location - We had a garden view room which was very nice. Needed a twin bed room and it had 2 double beds which was fantastic. Within walking distance to the shops and restaurants. Great seating area with tables, chairs and umbrellas in garden area. A toaster would have been good to have with plates and cutlery as in Kingscote we found that unless you had a booking at the restaurants you couldn't get a table and there was only minimal takeaway to have.
- Mahal2888 (10/5): Beach Front, Clean and Hospitable Staff - I made the right choice, this motel is a beach front motel with tidal pool close by! Motel staff Isai is very helpful and tried his best to accommodate my request, hospitable staff with nice, relaxing view and sunny weather made our stay comfortable, motel is clean, tidy with comfortable design! I can’t ask for more, it’s an amazing trip especially there are good restaurant nearby.
It’s not convenient to stroll around unless you book a car or drive, therefore it’s better to prepare yourself on your travel itinerary before arriving Kangaroo Island !
- denisemD6648YT (10/5): Clean, modern, comfortable accommodation - We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment which was fantastic for our family of 4. It was clean, spacious and very comfortable (especially the beds). We loved that we had cooking facilities available to use, however when it came to cleaning the dishes there was no dish rack to put the dishes to dry or no steel wool (or other appropriate cloth) to properly clean pots and pans.
Also another important thing to note is that the 2 bedroom apartment is on the 2nd floor and is accessed up a flight of stairs. This wasn't an issue for us, but could be an issue for those that have trouble with stairs.
The location of the apartment was fantastic. It was right across the road from the Tidal pool which our kids loved. And it was walking distance to all the restaurants and shops. We would definitely stay at this accommodation again should be ever come back to Kangaroo Island
- Madeline (10/5): - I liked the room decor, the walkability of the town, and the sea view.
- harolde971 (8/5): Sweet, comfortable and very ecologically minded motel - The location was excellent: facing the water and only 5 minute walk to town.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
They went above and beyond regarding the environment: e. g. not just an in-room recycling bin, but also compost (which we did not find elsewhere in Australia), organic teas, etc.
It is an old-style motel, down to the cinderblock walls, but our room was completely remodeled with a contemporary kitchen and bathroom, electric heat pumps, refinished hardwood floors, etc. The bed was very comfortable.
We had a 2 bedroom unit with a great ocean view, which was quite large, with plenty of room for suitcases and shelving.
We were quite happy with the accommodations and would recommend it to any friends planning to visit the island.
- Aimee (10/5): - This motel was an unexpected delight - the rooms are in great condition and have been renovated in great colours and lovely decor. Would recommend!
- De (10/5): - I had a look at a few accommodation options but I chose the right one, it’s straight across from the police station and within walking distance of everything I needed. I will definitely be staying here when I return.
- ralphr559 (10/5): Fab spot - Located right on the ocean, this is a fantastic spot to stay when exploring the island. Front rooms are the best. Pub is across the road, and the hotel has a swimming pool. Great breakfast and dinner. Beach is within walking distance.. Stay you will not be disappointed.
- Linda (8/5): - Conveniently situated withing walking distance to eateries, we found it a very easy place to stay. Room was exactly as depicted on website, with updated bathroom and decor.
We stayed two nights and were sorry to not have been able to get into the on-site restaurant The Odd Plate. While it is run independently from the motel, it would have been helpful for the motel to prompt visitors to book in when confirming their stay. The restaurant is quite small and was in very high demand at the time of our stay in low season, when a number of other optional eateries were closed on vacation. Other than that, our stay was very pleasant.
- Bhutantraveller (6/5): For tall people only -
Our Intrepid trip used this hotel. Although the location is great, it was not possible to open a window and I had to use the airconditioning all the time.
The strangest thing I found in the room were both the doorknob beiing very high, and the shower. I had to stand on my toes to get to the shower head and the shampoo and body lotion bottles. never seen this before, but very enoying.Otherwise it was fine, the room was funcional and clean.Recommended for tall people and those who can breath only compressed air.
- bibbju (10/5): Great stay in the Ocean View Suite - I only stayed for one night when I first arrived on KI but I would happily have stayed for longer. It was easy to find and easy parking right outside. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. I stayed in the Ocean View Suite was spotless and nicely located at the end of the ocean facing row so I wasn't aware of any noise from neighbours. The motel was fully booked but I saw very few people while I was there.
It was an easy walk to the supermarket (and bottle shop) to get some supplies for dinner (the restaurant wasn't open on the night I stayed) and in the morning I walked to Cactus to get a (very good!) coffee that I brought back and sat on the bench overlooking the bathing pool. A lovely way to start the morning.
I liked that some Nespresso capsules were provided for the coffee machine. My only minor grumble is that the seating in the suite wasn't very comfortable for watching TV. Fine for sitting at the table to eat but not so great for relaxing.
I really enjoyed my stay here and would recommend to anyone looking to stay in Kingscote.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very nice motel - Very nice motel. Stayed at the Sea View Suite. Inside must have been recently refurbished. Thoughtful and handy little details. Little kitchen was lacking salt, pepper and oil etc., but other than that well equipped.
- LeoH1961 (6/5): Good location - The garden room we stayed in was clean and modern in style. The beds were too soft for our liking but as mentioned the rooms are very clean. The rooms are only serviced if you ask, other wise it is left as is. During our last night we discovered that the walls are not well insulated and I had to knock on the room next door at 22:30 to ask them to turn the music down. We did not eat at the restaurant as the menu was not GF.
- MarkWRus (10/5): Comfortable, centrally located - We spent 4 nights at this lovely little motel - room 6 with ocean views. Centrally located within a few minutes walking distance to the main street, pub and tidal pool. Bed was extremely comfortable resulting in a great nights sleep. Room has been renovated recently. Free parking at front door and WIFI with good speed. Room serviced daily - everything very clean. Great pressure in the shower. Enjoyed a dinner at their restaurant The Odd Plate - fantastic food. Would stay here again when in Kangaroo Island
- JandJMelbourne (10/5): The Seaview motel is comfortable and we liked the retro style of decoration. -
My husband and I spent 4 nights recently at this lovely motel. Excellent previsit correspondence, the motel also booked our ferry tickets at no extra cost. The motel is apparently the first motel operated in Kingscote, and has been recently refurbished in a mid century modernist style. We like this type of architecture and really like the Matthew Flinders apartment. Lovely views, close to the cafes and other amenities. We had our special parking spot. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good shower, comfortable bed, plenty of space for the 2 of us.
We ate onsite at the wonderful Odd Plate restaurant one night. We loved our stay and would definitely recommend The Seaview to others. Thank you very much from Jennifer & Juris.
- Bucket-Listers2 (8/5): nice, central motel for a few nights - well located in center of town across the street from the ocean and in easy walking distance to town...very clean room...expected a microwave, but there aren't any in regular rooms!! beds were not that comfortable.... sag in the middle of both double beds...staff were very pleasant... be aware of which room you choose to reserve...the ocean view rooms have small porches and wonderful views...the garden view rooms are in the back of motel...the rooms have been renovated, but the reception area and laundry areas are old and unpleasant to look at....renovation in this area would be an improvement....walls were quite thin, hopefully, you have polite neighbors....
- colinm250 (8/5): Top spot - Had two of the front rooms with great views over the bay to penneshaw. Room has all that you need. Pub with good meals just down the road. Bottle shop nearby. Good walking path opposite. Parking at your door. Rooms very clean and recently updated.
- Kirstie (10/5): - The staff were so kind. The property was clean, well managed and easy accessible
- JorjaParis (8/5): Stayed in a very nice twin room with ensuite for 3 nights - Likes:
* kettle, toaster, tea, coffee, fridge
* bath + shower products in bathroom
* Comfy beds
Dislikes:
* toaster in room but no plates or cutlery
* on site washer + dryer close too early (I think 8pm) and coins only
* no moisturiser to go with other products available - would have been nice to have a full set
* Cold - bathroom window doesn’t shut
- freedom71 (8/5): Pleasantly surprised - Real gem of a little hotel. We stayed one night and the weather was dreadful but the room was lovely, recently renovated and they have done a lovely job
Bathroom/shower was a little iffy but overall very nice
We did have to park in a side alcove as not enough car spots for units
- Bree (8/5): - Great location with sea views! Staff were friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Highly recommend this beautiful place. Very clean and looks like something out of a house and home magazine. Stunning touches and extremely comfortable bed. Ocean views directly from the big glass window of your room. Friendly checkin too.
Right opposite on a Saturday morning at 8am at the Tidal pool is the Parkrun. Great 5k and locals are welcoming.
So close to drive to wineries and gin distillery.
- karenjK4071LG (8/5): Great stay - Stayed here one night while we were driving around KI. Motel has been recently renovated and they did a wonderful job. Decor is really quite nice, bed super comfortable, and the place was very clean. Reception very nice as well.
On site, coin operated washer and dryer available
Just a tip for the area: Kingscote was a ghost town in the evening. We checked in around 615pm and there was literally almost nowhere to eat. So just due your diligence and call and make reservations for dinner somewhere because we were scrambling to find food. Reception advised us to call the Ozone hotel and restaurant and were extremely lucky to get a last minute seating (but that is not common.)
It was a different story in the morning as cafe's open nice and early and within walking distance.
- cmay151 (6/5): Pleasant Surprise - From the outside, the motel still has the shabby look of an old motel however the rooms and grounds are being renovated nicely and the finished product looks like it's going to be lovely.
Check in very easy and friendly.
The room has had a lovely makeover and was spotlessly clean. The beds were extremely comfortable. Light, airy colour pallet really adds a nice feel to the room.
The bathroom is the old bathroom with a lick of paint thrown over it and while very clean, I hope will be given the same makeover as the room one day.
Easy parking. Nice views over the water. Easy walk into the shops and cafes.
Overall a very pleasant stay.
- Bunyip08 (10/5): Excellent ... best stay of our whole trip - This awesome little motel is an absolute gem. We are lovers of mid-century modern architecture and were fortunate to stay in the 2 bedroom ocean view apartment. It was renovated beautifully and was modern but in keeping with its mid-century modern heritage. Everything was provided. Sukin products in the bathroom were an added bonus. Well situated across from the beach and within working distance to the pub, cafe and shops
- jayson (8/5): - Quiet and assessible to local shops-hotels
- Marcia (10/5): Nice stay!!! - Very comfortable clean room!
- Bernice (10/5): - Very pleasant, close to everything, great views and friendly Manager.
- Angela (10/5): - Friendly and helpful for 3 star, good value
- Andrew (10/5): - The service from the staff was excellent. The accommodation was ok, getting a little tied though. Overall I’d definitely stay again.
- Annie (10/5): - Great service and cleanliness as always
- Heath (8/5): - The rooms were simple but clean and tidy. The staff were friendly. They are currently doing renovations and hopefully they will add a Cafe/Restaurant.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Dated, yes. But charming and quirky. I loved the little shutters over the floor level air vents. All in all this fits the natural charm of the seaside town of Kingscote. Very clean, cosy, and everything we needed for a night in town. Lots of on-site and street parking. Across the road from the natural seas pool and an easy short walk to anything in town. Very pleasant stay.
- Agnes (10/5): Family stay - Good location by the rock pool and the center of Kingscote. Basic room clean and easy access. Good for a week end!
- RobJ (10/5): - The check in was quick and service was excellent. With some great recommendations of local eateries and activities.
- Janelle (6/5): Needs some updating! - No air conditioning, external bathrooms, images online don’t reflect actual rooms. Not really value for money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Million dollar view! - Very close to the beach and all amenities. Peaceful and relaxing. We'll be back. Beautiful sunrise.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The blonde hair manager was extremely rude, approaching my son, to complain about the mess in the bathroom, which consisted of a foot towel being left in the bathroom despite there being no wash basket or bin to put used soap in the cubicle.
The fact that she approached a 11 year old without parents being there was disgusting.
- Peter (8/5): It’s a great view - Perfect for a quick overnight trip
- Xiao W (6/5): - Good view, but the single bed is too softy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Sea view.good location and excellent service. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Room are clean and comfy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very dated but clean, no toilet en-suite so you have to go to a seperate building outside
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Room was unclean, stuffs from previous stays were left under the bed. Bed was uncomfortable, filthy room. We agreed to check out at 11, but by the time we went for breakfast outside, cleaners entered the room and we couldn’t use the room later. No microwave in the room. Towels were old. Television is robs my 12 inches. Not worth for money.
- Brett (8/5): - Unit was basic and clean. Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice room but one air conditioner doesn’t cover both bed rooms. May be big stand fans will be good idea for bed rooms.
- Peter (10/5): 2 Days on KI - We had a very nice stay and the staff were more than helpful
- Verified traveler (4/5): Fake hotel description - The website shows that room has two bathrooms, but actually there is only one. Also the number of beds is different from the picture showing on website. It's a terrible experience for me.
- BillyBoy (8/5): - Nice basic accommodation,. but watch just what your buying as I was a it confused and ordered a room with a shared bathroom. But the staff sorted out the issue with me nicely.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Hotel with sea wiews - Enjoyed our stay as we were central to many tourist attractions.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice location close to restaurants and natural pool
- anne (8/5): - Booked the Baudin room which would have been ample room for four. Small spa bath in bathroom and great ocean views from this room. Even your own little terrace. Lounge. Had a microwave toaster and kettle.
- Frederic (8/5): Nice but might be noisy... - Nice stay on KI, well located, but bedroom walls very thin and you can hear your neighbours snoring...
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Uncomfortable bed, too soft.
- Les (4/5): Kangaroo Island stay - The hotel is pretty old. Fixtures & fittings old. Bed squeaks. Lounge seats have old used coverings. Not my preferred style. Best described as "Looks Tired".
Bathroom tap was leaking. Obviously not a high priority for hotel to fix.
Some (glass) doors and windows don't have curtains, so very bright from outside lighting all night.
Definitively not value for money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Highly recommended! - Very nice and helpful staff, room with beautiful view, enough space for three of us in the room. Easy walk to town and fun stroll along the beach right in front of your room. Convenient parking, comfortable room, we are very happy!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to beach and shops - Nice clean old motel. Beach and shops just across the street. Free unlimited wifi but a bit slow.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Conveniently located close to town with awesome views., friendly staff. Needs new mattresses
- Fred (6/5): Great service, but misleading pictures of motel. - This was a convenient motel to stay in. It was withing walking distance to restaurants and other establishments, and a pickup point for the ferry. The office people were extremely helpful, and went beyond what one could expect for service. The pictures of the motel lead one to believe it is new and updated, however once inside it is obvious that it is not, but in all fairness, they do let you know there are no bathroom facilities in your room in the write up of the place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely view of the bay, walking distance to food - KI is a wonderful place, and this hotel is conveniently located in the middle-ish of the island. The staff were friendly, and the walks around town were lovely.
- Steve (6/5): Not bad for a short stay - The room is a good size and comfortable but lacks some bench space around the kettle area and it also could do with a full blind of curtains over the double entrance door to make the room darker in the morning as all you have is a blind that went down half way.
- Albert (8/5): - very expensive for shared bathroom and no breakfast.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice view, the lamp cord was broken, so couldnt turn it on
- ray (8/5): nice old hotel with lovely beach views. - Got a shock on arrival, owner took several minutes to answer bell from reception..sorry, your room has shared bathroom facilities ...hmmm. But for an extra $20/ nite you can have a standard room with ensuite ..ok. Nice old motel/ guest house with lovely Seaview and opposite the beach. Short stroll into town, pier, nice pizza rest opposite. Good spot to explore the wonderful Kangaroo island. Room, bed, shower, all ok.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No kitchen in the baudin suite. Room is ok, big enough for 4 people
- Jan (10/5): Nice location overlooking the sea - Clean, friendly, nice size rooms in the old house. The shared toilet block was like no other. Flowers, hand towels, bath mats, hair dryer etc.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, great view, lovely friendly staff, close to everything in Kingscote
- sunny singh (8/5): Very nice - The staff was very nice n friendly....!!
Room was also good !
- Verified traveler (10/5): Sun rise across the Bay - Just a fantastic place to stay if you like chilling out and for a change a dip I the tidal swimming pool.
- Keith (6/5): Tiny, out of date in areas. - Make sure if you travel to KI pre book for dining out.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stunning sea views add friendly staff - A very enjoyable stay for my first visit to Kangaroo Island. I'll certainly come back to Seaview.
- Annie (8/5): Close to ocean and to town. - Older hotel kept very clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed the ocean views from the cares right outside our door. Good value.
- Aggie (10/5): Comfortable accommodation with a brilliant view - Baudin Suite was very comfortable and spacious although furnishings were a little dated. We would certainly stay at KI Seaview Motel again!
- Kwan Chong (2/5): Very disappointing, did NOT deliver! - Dirty, poor attitude of cleaning staff, lack of maintenance is horrific. We stayed at Haven Marina Glenelg, same era and star rating, $10 cheaper per night, and vastly better than Seaview Motel.
- Geoffrey (8/5): Pleasant location - Very satisfying vacation. No further items need be added.
- Linda (8/5): Good family hotel - I stayed at this motel with my daughter and her 2 sons. We stayed in the Matthew Flinders unit which had plenty of room for a family and included a kitchenette. This suited our needs perfectly. Rooms were spacious and clean. Beds were comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not a good choice - Good location for the sea view. But the room is not very clean. Poor sound proofing.
- RR (6/5): Good location close to CBD, It ends there. - We stayed in backpacker like room, shared shower-room but private room. Cooking was not allowed, which is disappointing as take away food are fairly expensive around town. The room has a small fridge, sink and tv, are nice addition. Shared shower-room smells quite awful as you expect for such a place. The shower-room is outside the living quarter (different building), if you are planning to have shower in the morning, get ready to feel the cold strong wind.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Affordable and comfortable stay in Kingscote - Nothing fancy but good price and a good size room with everything we needed for our three days - the ocean view was a great bonus. Nothing to complain about, would recommend it to other families.
- Tracey (8/5): Comfortable hotel near beach - We enjoyed our stay at the Seaview Motel. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and willing. The views from the sea facing rooms spectacular and the location to town and the tidal swimming pool fantastic. The room was a little dated but very clean and provided all that we required.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Ideal motel close to beach & shops - Greeted by friendly staff, very clean room and very comfortable. Would definitely stay again
- Verified traveler (8/5): good location and easy parking - it's good to stay
- belinda (6/5): Holiday getawway at KI - Room cosy. Overall clean. Only problem was water was yellowish.
- Phoebe (10/5): Kingscote seaside motel - Our room was so close to the main street it was super convenient, it was the perfect place to relax and not too small. Doing day trips out from Kingscote the room was an easy place to come home and crash. Motel in general was very quiet, (probably because of off-season). Pelican feeding at the local pier was the highlight of the trip- if you see this hilarious and entertaining experience, don't skimp out of the $5 per person donation- the guy buys the fish out of his own pocket! Beaches and local tourist destinations are very close.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Stayed in a 2 bedroom- 1 with queen, other with 3 singles. Also a kitchen with oven and dining/lounge area. Was up outdoor stairs and like timewarping back to the 70s. All clean though. Barely any wifi coverage in this room. Central to shops/hotel. DVD collection is bad.
- Cathy (10/5): - Facilities: Above average; Value: Great deal; Service: Professional, Good, Friendly; Cleanliness: Beautiful;
