Guest Reviews
- Donna (10/5): - Parking was great. Breakfast was very good. Overall pleased.
- Jeffrey (2/5): - No one to checkin when i arrived had to go to another hotel.
- Kent (10/5): Nice place - Staff was very friendly.
The vineyard was very nice.
- Mary (10/5): - Loved the retro motel that was recently updated. People were friendly and helpful. Restaurant was very good.
- Nicole (10/5): A motel win! - Motels are always a hit or miss for us but the reviews were all excellent so we gave it a go for an overnight stay. It totally lived up to the reviews. Checkin at the restaurant was smooth and quick. Rooms are nothing special but spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and had a quilt instead of a comforter (BONUS!). The free breakfast is custom order at the same restaurant where you check in/out. Delicious and super friendly. We would definitely stay again if ever through the hometown of Gretchen Wilson.
- Sue (10/5): - The rooms are very spacious. The bed was extremely comfortable. The staff was great, and the restaurant was excellent. Easy parking right in front of the door.
- Nathaniel (8/5): - Even though this is a motel, and a little dated, the room was super clean and the restaurant connected to the hotel had some good home cooked food.
- Tracy (10/5): Great choice - This was our second time to stay here and we will choose it again! Can’t beat the price and their rooms are clean and nice. Bathroom appeared to be newly remodeled which was nice. Great choice.
- Gray (10/5): Lucky find - Clean and adequate (but very dated). Friendly staff. Fantastic diner on site.
- Darren (10/5): Wedding weekend - The staff were fantastic. The cup holder in my car had broken and I didn’t realize it and our room key got tossed in and is now residing in my console. They immediately supplied me with another key. The resturaunt has amazing free breakfast.
- Dan (10/5): - Nice room! Clean and comfortable bedding and bed. Updated bathroom. Complimentary full breakfast. What a little gem!
- Melissa (8/5): - This is an older motel. It is ok for its age. They have done some updating, but some of the finish work is not the best.
This is also the only hotel that did not have a blow dryer for me to dry my hair.
- Olivia (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay.
- Nancy (2/5): Never got reservation, no room - was told room was not available. Had to drive 30 miles after long trip to find another room
- Ann (10/5): - Property was older, but very clean and comfotable. Nice to have restuarant right there. We will be back
- Angela (8/5): - Nice quiet room. Just a couple of cobwebs and a bit of dust to clean up.
- Jerry (6/5): Decent Motel in Small Village - This motel was fairly priced for what it was. It is dated but reasonably clean. The beds are comfortable, and the included full, hot breakfast ordered from a small menu, was filling and pretty good. The big downside to this place was that the walls are paper thin, and one can hear other guests and road noise (especially all of the large trucks) very clearly. Using the AC to drown out outside noise was ineffective as the AC itself was extremely loud.
- Derek (8/5): - great breakfast
- Bianca (10/5): - We had a quick overnight trip. Our room was clean and had what we needed. It's a little outdated and the pillows were very hard, not good to sleep on. The restaurant with the hotel was fantastic!! The service and our breakfast was great! Thank you!
- Kelly (8/5): Good value. - Good value, convenient restaurant.
- Carrie (10/5): Great, quiet and friendly staff - will be back! - This was a great, clean hotel - felt like a Route 66 hotel - we will definitely stay here again! Great breakfast in the Resturant - bed was comfortable- just want we needed!
- Connie (10/5): Wayne’s Choice - Very clean and courteous.
Just outside of St. Louis - very safe.
Excellent food value.
- Brandin (10/5): - Clean, cheap, free breakfast was fantastic.
- Vickie (8/5): - Single traveler - Female - over 65
The place was right next to the restaurant. Dinner was good and nice full size breakfast choice too. The place is dates but had been updated with laminated floors, nice bed, and most of all clean.
The only concern I had was regarding the windows, they would not lock. If traveling with another would stay there again; however if I was alone I doubt if I'd stay there.
- Alexis (10/5): - Great stay!
- James (10/5): - Nice, with a great breakfast.
- Holly (10/5): - We were well pleased with the cleanliness of the room. The room could use a full length mirror. The air conditioner was noisy, luckily we didn’t need it as it was comfortable with using the ceiling fan.
- Nancy (8/5): - nice quiet spot
- Tracey L (10/5): Would definitely recommend! - The room was very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing. Very nice out of the way place.
- David (10/5): - Quaint old timey motel. Very clean and comfortable. Nice home-style restaurant on the premises. Free full breakfast for lodgers. Would definitely stay there again.
- Nyla (8/5): Great staff, newly remodeled, amazing breakfast - This is an old school roadside motel with recently remodeled rooms. The restaurant is a nice family restaurant and a pleasant place to eat. When we stayed they were including a breakfast from a special restaurant menu—the best breakfast of our two week road trip. Staff is great. AC unit is louder than typical. It didn’t bother me but my son struggled with the noise. I would certainly stay here again if only for the breakfast.
- Wayne (10/5): Pleased With Powhattan - The place is very clean. It is in great condition. The restaurant is a superior value.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Slept Like a Baby! - I was riding from Oklahoma and it started raining in Missouri I called my wife and asked her to find me a hotel after I crossed into Illinois she found this little GEM! I would recommend it quite great food at the Inn, beds were super comfortable.
- Ken (2/5): - Bed was nice but that's the end of the good. The bad: old, run down, smelled bad, ac was very loud, no cable tv, and worse of all, no hot water. When I mean no hot water, I mean zero. Ice cold. Would not ever recommend.
- Mark (2/5): - Can’t believe Expedia had this Motel at an 8.6 Excellent.
There was a bug in my bed that the manager called a water bug. There wasn’t any other rooms left and she didn’t even offer clean sheets.
The bed was terrible. The air conditioning didn’t work good. The shower had no hot water. We got no sleep! Not a good stay!!
- Jeff (10/5): - Wonderful stay. Comfortable bed and clean space. Food next door.
- Mildred (10/5): Awesome stay! - Quiet, quaint little motel that looks outdated on the outside, but beautiful rooms!
Staff is extremely kind, restaurant onsite with reasonable prices and good food.
Any trip that takes us through Pocahontas, we will definitely be staying here again!
- SEBASTIAN (6/5): - Driver loves this little motel when he’s in the area. The only issue was I was booking it for him and they didn’t accept that the card used on Expedia so he had to pay out of pocket and now has to be reimbursed instead of using the credit card that I booked it with.
- Cynthia (8/5): - It was clean but at $100 a night, I expected more amenities. There was no coffee pot, hair drier, very few electrical outlets, the refrigerator wasnt even plugged in, and the arrangement for the hanging rack was strange.
- Hali Gay (10/5): - Rooms were clean. Restaurant was close.
- Sheila (10/5): - This is a hidden gem. From the outside it looks like a typical slightly run-down older motel, but the inside has been beautifully redone! Excellent bed and pillows, plenty of towels, walk in shower, unique cart-style bedside table, reading lamp, new wood flooring, triple door locks. Super impressed!
- Donna (8/5): - Staff is very accomodating. Related restaurant provides ice and coffee at no charge. For the area an excellent option.
- Valerie (6/5): - Convenient to the highway. Room was clean but lacked a refrigerator and microwave.
- Janice (10/5): - Outstanding service! Delicious food!!! The friendliest staff I've ever had the pleasure to meet....love this place!!
- Richard (10/5): - Very nice staff, very clean rooms. Worked perfect for us with our four rooms to attend a wedding nearby
- Kathleen (10/5): - This hotel is a real charm. Stopped for one night driving home and it is now my place to stop. Small, but very clean. The staff is super friendly and there’s a great little restaurant.
This is no resort hotel, but it is ideal for highway driving - and a great overnight stop! I will stop again
- Micheal (10/5): - I thought the place was very quaint and cute. The rooms were alot nicer than expected.
Loved the diner that was with the motel!
- MAX (10/5): - This is a Family Business. It revolves around the Restaurant for Check In, Ice, and Questions. The Room was spacious enough and clean. Parking is at your door, no stairs or elevator or disinterested Staff. The restaurant was an excellent place to eat and just across the lot. I prefer supporting a conscientious family operation than a potluck mass chain with mediocre Cleanliness and Disinterested staff. If you are a late check-in you will need to call ahead for arrangements. They watch the business so take your nefarious behavior elsewhere.
- Brian (2/5): - Made a reservation 2 days before arrival. Indicated we'd be checking in at 9pm.
Arrived at 9:03 pm, walked into cafe where check-ins were supposed to happen.
Informed grumpy lady who grudgingly got off the stool that we were there to check in.
"We don't have any rooms," she said.
"Oh, we have a reservation," I said.
She glanced down at a piece of paper with about a dozen names on it, and without asking for ours, she simply responded, "No."
"Would you like my confirmation number," I asked?
"Don't worry, we won't charge your card," was the response.
- Joseph (10/5): - Room was very clean and reasonably priced. Just the basic accommodations we were looking for in a 1 night stay.
- Eunice (10/5): Amazing! - Wonderful, relaxing g stay and great dinner at the restaurant. I stop here once ever summer on my cross country travels.
- Virginia (8/5): No frills and I'm okay with that! - Nice quiet clean motel with a comfy bed.
The Roku TV was a lifesaver!
- frank (10/5): - Very clean room, hard wood floors were nice. Restaurant & game room just seconds away on the same property.
- Megan (2/5): - Disappointing. Room had cob webs on the ceiling, the ceiling fan was not working and was dirty. Would not go back
- Mackenzie (10/5): - I t was clean and the people were so friendly. I love that they have a restaurant connected to the check in counter and when I got up, I was offered fresh, hot coffee made on the house.
- Laine (10/5): - Bathroom really clean and bed very comfortable. Staff at check-in and restaurant helpful and friendly
- Toby (10/5): - Very clean, wood floor, quiet heat-no roaring fans.
- Bonnie (10/5): - There was no coffee maker in the room and the restaurant doesn't open until 8 a.m. Luckily there's a gas station nearby.
- Michelle (2/5): - The hostess was kind, but the door to our room had many damages and we didn’t feel safe so we left and found another hotel. Door outer damage—missing wood at handle had appearance of a former break in. Flimsy locks and one non functioning. Bottom door broken leaving corner hole to outside access. Too questionable for remote location and didn’t feel comfortable so we left.
- Randall (6/5): - Very kind and helpful staff. Breakfast at the restaurant was really good. Pancakes were enormous!!!
- Joseph (2/5): - Shower didn't. Bed linens not changed? Qtip in bathroom trash can (not mine)
- Ray (10/5): - Like the property but didn't like the fights going on outside at 2AM.
- Emily (8/5): - The bed was very comfortable. I didn't like that I could hear the people in the room next door so easily.
- Joel (10/5): Great motel in cute town - We try to stay here every year when traveling from Oklahoma to Ohio. It’s a great little motel in a cute little town. The people are very friendly and the restaurant that’s on the property is top notch. Highly recommended!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great spot along Rt 70 - Traveling from Denver to DC. Convenient along Rt 70. Easy late night check in. Great correspondence from the staff prior to arrival.
- Katherine (10/5): - Super friendly staff, clean room
- Rachel (10/5): - All staff was beyond friendly and kind; the room was clean and neat. Bed was super comfortable, the stay was easy and it was very welcoming .
- Nick (10/5): - It was nice and the service was friendly
- Debra (8/5): - Very nice motel, beautiful wood floors, comfy bed.
- Sandra (10/5): Love this place! - We enjoy the older well kept motels when we travel. This was very clean and cute and the bed was the most comfortable we had slept on for the 3 weeks we have been traveling. The best part of this motel is the restaurant. Fantastic food and great service all around here.
- Marci (8/5): - My room has these beautiful hard wood floors, stained in a quilt like design... and very clean
- Deana (10/5): Small charm - Great little place. Off the beaten path. The kind of place Ricky and Lucy would stay at going across country. The restaurant has great home cooking.
- Marilyn (10/5): A nice little motel.... - We enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean (maybe a little too clean as the smell of Pine-Sol was very strong upon arrival), the bed was comfortable and the shower hot. That is what we expected and needed. The staff was very friendly and you can't park any closer than right in front of your door. I expected to hear traffic, but did not. You could tell they cleaned with the door open as there were a lot of flies in our room....but there was also a fly swatter....so problem solved. I also recommend eating at the restaurant....good stuff!!!
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Very quaint and cute motel!
- Danny (8/5): - Friendly staff, Helpful
- Neall (4/5): - Cool aesthetic. I like the signs, the look, the vintage feel of the motel and restaurant.
- Jeffrey J (10/5): - We like small hotels, but the quality is usually all over the place. Powhatan was among the nicest we've stayed in!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was an absolutely charming hotel, with a really good restaurant.
- Russell (10/5): Not what I expected! - Not the most flattering pictures on the internet, but the timing and the location AND the price suited us just fine for a quick stop-over on the way to parts west. All the prices we found were the same, $79 plus tax. Read reviews of the Motel and adjacent restaurant and thought we'd take a chance. Great decision! Ate at the restaurant then over to the motel. VERY NICE! Clean, fresh-smelling, and extremely comfortable king sized bed. No complaints, especially since when we checked in, the price was only $74 including tax. Great, friendly staff. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed!
- Darrell (8/5): A nice place to stay - The motel was average. It was clean and very affordable. The staff at the motel and restaurant were very friendly and helpful. Overall a really good stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great find - We really enjoyed our stay. Comfortable bed. Clean room. Good lighting. Ceiling fan. Restaurant on site. Friendly people.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The motel is tired. Very sparse with furniture? Lumpy chair. The room had been redone at some point. The towels and sheets were clean. The worst was a ancient air conditioner that turned on and off about every 3 minutes. It was very loud and smelt moldy . The continuous on and off proved annoying during the night. I would not recommend this hotel if there are other options available.
- Mark (4/5): Give Powhatan a pass... - The property really needs a facelift. New bed, new flooring, new chairs, new headboard all ok .
Bathroom terrible; tub, sink, floor, furniture all ancient!
I have been on on the road for 40 years and stayed in 100s ( literally) of hotels/ motels. This was really substandard.
Hotels.com rating was waaay too high.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Classic Americana. Interstate motel that has been renovated. It’s extremely clean and the staff is great.
I didn’t have any expectations other than a clean room during a family emergency.
They exceed our expectations.
- Warren (6/5): - Check in and out slow, restaurant needs one more person working.
No ice, no refrigerator, no microwave.
Rooms are beautiful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This was a nice and quiet motel to stay at after driving on the Interstate, and even though it's close to the highway I still couldn't hear much noise so that was nice. What I feel the need to mention though, is the check-in and check-out process, because that is what made me uncomfortable. I needed to check in and out at the front counter of the restaurant, where the staff were, and every time I walked in there, I couldn't wait to leave. The whole restaurant was packed full of people without masks, staff and customers, and as far as I was concerned I was the only one in there with a mask. I was thankful at least that my room was far enough away from everyone that I felt like I could isolate, but this left a very bad impression on me traveling during a pandemic. I have done my best the entire time to stay safe, yet I am constantly met with people who just don't care enough to do their part. In a service-oriented job like working in a restaurant, especially where food is being prepared, I know that all the employees know better than to not wear a mask, yet they don't, which turned me away from eating at the restaurant or wanting to set foot in there again. The actual room was very nice, but this overshadowed it so much that I couldn't wait to leave. Do better with your COVID compliance, people!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff was absolutely wonderful. Super clean rooms! The only thing is our room was so hot. The ac didn't cool it down much. We had others staying there and only 1 other room was the same way though.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A straight forward, old school motel. Very convenient to the road, friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds, working TV. Went to the associated restaurant for both dinner when we checked in and breakfast when we checked out. We enjoyed the meals, the service, and we're very happy with our stay in general.
- David (6/5): - It was ok
- Laura (8/5): Very basic but clean room - Our room was very basic, but clean. Bed was very comfortable. It was nice to have a refrigerator however I missed a coffeemaker and a hair dryer.
- Marinella (2/5): Don't even bother. - DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL THROUGH HOTELS.COM. I learned the hard way that they only take bookings in person despite hotels.com allowing me to make a reservation. So when I pulled up to this hotel in the middle of the night on my cross country trip with my pets, they had no reservation and no room for rent left. So you can imagine how hard it was to find a pet friendly hotel in the middle of the night when I was left stranded! The woman at the hotel told me she has no idea why this keeps happening and hotels.com keeps sending them people when they have no affiliation with the site! Plus, hotels.com was useless when I called and needed help with the situation. So do yourself a favor and don't book this.
- Jim (6/5): - Not a bad place for a night in a pinch...restaurant was excellent
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We sropped by the Powhatan on the way home from a long road trip. It's a very basic & dated place, so if you're looking for luxury lodging, this isn't your stop. But if you just need a basic, clean room & a delicious meal, check it out! From the outside, it looks pretty rundown, but I was surprised at how clean & updated the bathroom was. If you arrive very late like we did, it was nice to be able to pop into the restaurant (open 24 hrs on weekends) to check in. The waitress who helped us, was pretty busy since she was the only one working besides the cook, but she was still super helpful, bery laid back & nice! My teenager enjoyed a yunmy bedtime snack from the restaurant, and we all enjoyed a really delicious breakfast the next morning before hearing out!! I was also charged less than what was quoted online - which is ALWAYS a pleasant surprise!
