Guest Reviews
- Chuck (4/5): - Walking distance to downtown Sparta, but property is old, unkept, in need of updates.
Price charged for this kind of room is ridiculous.
- Justen (2/5): Not impressed. - Very few options in the area, chose one online, regretted it. Price changed at the hotel, there was no microwave in the room, the air conditioner and refrigerator were turned off, and the room smelled like an abandoned building.
- James (2/5): - I would not stay there. I went to check in. I told him I didn't want a dirty room soon as I opened the door. The floor was filthy with food. I went and pulled back to sheets and on the mattress you can see bedbugs.
Hard to see in the photo, but it looks like pepper
Do not stay there
- Peter (4/5): - The owner should employ the services of cleaning company. The rooms are dirty and smelly
- Jeffrey (2/5): - Place is a $hit-box. Dirty. would rather sleep in a tent.
- BLAIR (8/5): Great for a stay - In a pinch a nice place to sleep. Everything worked. No problems at all.
- zachary (2/5): - .
- Katie (10/5): - .
- Spacey (2/5): - So dirty!!!
- Elizabeth (2/5): - Our room was no clean, the floors and the bathroom sink and the bedspreads. The towels were somewhat stained and threadbare. The bathmat was so stained we did not want to use it at all. Luckily because of former reviews we had brought our own towels as well as sleeping bags. For some reason the owner came in one day when we were gone and must have been upset that we were using one of his towels as the bathmat. He took all his towels and only left his stained bathmat. What the heck?! The only reason we stayed here was the solar eclipse and a lack of other choices. I'd suggest you steer clear AND that Orbitz take this property off its list.
- Janet (10/5): - The staff was so welcoming and friendly. The property and room were super clean. It was conveniently located to some good dining options. We went there specifically to watch the eclipse 2024 and just had a wonderful time.
- Jess (2/5): - Every inch of the room was filthy. The shower was disgusting and someone had left a surprise in the roilet which was clogged and it gets worse. The bedsheets had strands of hair all over stains on the sheets and BED BUGS. I cannot believe it is legal for the place to be open. I would sleep in my car or the ground before i would stay at this place. Dont waste your money!
- Kent (2/5): - Place had not been vacuumed, wet towels behind the bathroom door floors were not washed, curtains did not cover window, no breakfast or coffee which it said was included, only one towel and wash cloth that looked fairly clean. Expedia should not be representing a place like this because now we do not want to use your services again either
- Jessica (2/5): - Roaches and dirty
- Stacey (8/5): Huge pool, clean comfortable beds - Nice hotel, clean, huge pool
- Shanti (6/5): - I had roaches in my room, the tv didn't work, and there was trash still in the trash cans and dirt on the floor.
- Patrick (4/5): - Kept checking for bugs. Fateful of dirt turning on a/c. Bathroom could not close door with a person my size in there.
- dennis (2/5): Avoid - Where to start – from the phone by the office that didn’t work right (to call the owner, he will show up in 10 minutes), the garbage piled up around the buildings, the deadbolt that wouldn’t work, to the sand and dirt in the sheets, the space heater setting on a chair next to the bed or the toilet seat that wasn’t attached.
But the best (worst?) had to be the frog perched on the rod as my wife was taking a shower.
Yes, there was a live frog in the shower stall. See the pictures.
DON’T STAY HERE.
The best use for this motel would be target practice for a bulldozer.
- Buddy (2/5): - both my kids were scared each night due to cross being called both nightsthere were holes in the walls were selling before his punched cuz they got mad or something.the bathroom toilet leaked both times
- Rollie (6/5): - Smell, dirt, bugs
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Definitely a run down facility. Room was small and had seen better days a long long time ago. The manager was pleasant enough but was a little miffed when he found out I did the reservation through Expedia.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Terrible, gross, disgusting! - Floors dirty, walls dirty, trash cans dirty& no bag, dingy towels & dirty bath rug, tv wouldn’t change channels due to broken remote, clean but old bedding, needed to screw in light bulb to get lights on, lamp shade filthy, light not plugged in-cord won’t reach power outlet, shower rack was rusty! Smelled like mold.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very quiet. The step into the room was a little hard but manageable.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I woke the owner up at midnight for our reservation.. noisy kids playing outside at midnight. Reeked of curry everywhere. A man was hiding in the dark outside our window of the room. Promptly left and reported to police that told me that this hotel is nothing but bad news. Needs to be burned down.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I’ve never seen the movie “Dark Water” but I know of the plot. Turning on the hot water in the shower gave off a bad order and washing off the soap I thought I had a lot of dirt on me but it turned out the water was really dirty. The ceiling tiles seemed to have had some water damage and/or mold but at least the bed was clean.
- Samund (10/5): Great hotel - It was a great experience good service.
- Destiny (10/5): NOT A BAD PLACE DEFINITELY STAYING AGAIN - Guy their is always very nice & has been more then amazing whenever we ended up not showing up on time he still waited for us really is a good place for the price & the guy working deserves more credit then he gets. We got the room with king bed under account name Destiny & under email trainedjunk69@gmail.com so if guy working their sees this thank you so much
- Jayda (2/5): BUGS - I kept getting bites everywhere on my arms, legs and fingers and I found a bug that looks like a bed bug, a roach was climbing up the walls in the shower, it was horrible on my end and same with my boyfriend.
- H Daniel (2/5): - The place was filthy. Sheets were threadbare. Bed was lumpy. Couldn't stay the second night.
- Dr (4/5): - WONT STAY HERE AGAIN. i NOW KNOW HTE REASON THE SIGN SAYS "PAY IN ADVANCE, NO REFUNDS"
- 336geraldj (2/5): Terrible place to stay - DO NOT STAY HERE - The health department should check this place out ... they will likely close it down. Bathroom was filthy. Toilet seat needed to be cleaned. Towels were questionable. Shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned in at least a month. Bed sheets were clean however the whole room smelled like mold and mildew.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Never again - Room was small, booked a king room was given a double full. Was charged 5 dollars for early check in. Booked at 45.00 paid 60. Broken window in bathroom, no Wi-Fi, broken heater and no one in the office after 11. From Chicago went to sparta saw more drug deals in 1 night then in 11 years living in Chicago. Horrible place to stay
- C (2/5): Stay Somewhere Else - Bunch of liars, stay somewhere else. Don't trust a thing they say - if they tell you they are going to cancel your room, they end up charging you the next day anyway! They probably charged me, and re-rented the room on top of it!
- C (2/5): Stay Somewhere Else - Had a medical emergency, needed to cancel the room. Over the phone they agreed to cancel the room, but charged me anyway. I don't normally like to give such a negative review, but in this case - Find Somewhere Else To Stay! Based on the other reviews of this same motel, I'm not the only one who's had a problem! If they had told me over the phone that they were going to charge me anyway, I probably wouldn't be leaving this negative review. Just don't lie to your customers!
- Tom (2/5): Should be demolished - and soon - The Sparta Motel is, without a doubt, the single most disgusting fleabag place I've ever had the displeasure of paying for. It smelled bad. It looked bad. It was cramped and dingy, with no redeemable qualities that I could find, whatsoever. I would recommend that all online booking sites drop this place from your listings. It reflects badly on your site offering dumps like this. I refused to stay
- Betty (6/5): Old motel, but friend helpful staff - Old motel, run down. Nice friendly people. Internet service was poor. Hi
- Diana (4/5): Eclipse trip - Although this motel has seen better days, we actually were pleased with our stay. The air conditioner worked very well and the refrigerator, also. The bed was comfy. The owner was really nice and let us use a room after check out for eclipse watchers to use a bathroom and cool off. We had a wonderful eclipse viewing without having to find a spot with shade and facilities. The owner came out and watched with us and the others. We were so grateful to them. We liked our breakfast at Doreen's, which was just a few blocks away.
- bj (2/5): - mold was in the room nothing worked and mold was growing in the bathroom and wanted to change me for internet 25 dollora
horrible
dust every where
And wpuld not refund me anything
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very dirty, had bugs, was charged more - Wouldn't let my dog stay, bugs all over trash was full, all around very dirty
- Mitch (2/5): City Dump - Worst motel ever. Dirty room. Towels spotty. Sheets unclean. Absolutely should be bulldozed.
- Leonard (4/5): - Room smelled of smoke. TV was maybe a 19" and poor reception. In a area of town far away from your local stores. I left and went to another motel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Should not be on your website - The place is one of the most horrible motels I have seen. I think my money should be refunded. I did not stay there. Not only was it dirty, it looked like a fire trap. Roomso small that one could hardly move.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I have never stayed at hotel with a room as filthy as this room. The drains in the bathroom were clogged and waste backed up into the shower stall. Stay away from this location.
- Jason (2/5): - Hotel is very old and outdated (1970's). Bathroom is very small with hardly enough room to shut the door. Very overpriced for the lack of quality.
- Dale (2/5): - Room wasn't very clean bath bath was gray instead of its original white color
- engr12b (2/5): Wouldn't recommend to anyone. - Registration office was filthy. Didn't have my reservation. Room was dark, dirty and smelled of mildew. Sheets were not clean. Looked like they just remade beds not changed linens. Bathroom window screen had a large hole. Had to climb over the bed to turn on air conditioner which barely worked.
